It might have been slightly cheaper to use Hellfire on the PT's, and even the old harpoons might be enough on the corvettes, frigates and other larger ships.
Not a chance. The US ships that are simulating the Iranian ships would shoot down all Harpoons and/or Hellfire's. Has to be stealth. And the smaller patrol craft would be tough for a Harpoon to lock onto. LGB's are the ticket. The only platform in DCS that can fire the Hellfire is the Reaper drone, the Predator drone and the Apache. Not fast enough for those distances.
@@valuedhumanoid6574 The bigger ships might be able to shoot down the harpoons, they are just not the newest tech there is so some might come through. The PT-boats should have a problem with the hellfires, and the choppers should not go near the bigger ships as they are vulnerable.

Also, the latest US weaponry capability is still classified in regards to what upgrades have been done. AND the game's hit-boxes are not the greatest. A HARM can take out the radar on a missile frigate and thereby make it pretty much useless against air threats, something DCS fails to allow. In any major conflict against Iran's navy the US might take some losses, but there would be no Iranian navy afterwards.
I don't think they even take losses, the US navy isn't going to even be in range lol the F-35 is basically invisible to everyone but China so they would just fly a couple sorties and launch cruise missiles from hundreds of miles away and call it a day. There's no chance anyone even knows what's happening until they are already exploding. The only scenario where Iran even has a shot is if the US is forced to engage quickly at close range which simply wouldn't happen
Being fair, unless the frigate is unsupported, the loss of one ship's radar array wouldnt mean they are incapable of air defence. Aegis can exchange target data between ships.
In any major conflict, the Iranian Navy would be almost completely irrelevant. Iran would launch massive waves of drones, ballistic missiles and cruise missiles. Their navy and air force, if they even deployed at all, would basically just serve to distract US/allied forces from the main threats.
Can you imagine what the Iranian radio channels would sound like when the first wave from the Arleigh Burkes starts assigning those fast attack boats to submarine duty?
The crazy thing is that the F-35 is capable of utilizing ship cruise missiles to attack targets. So once the ships are taken care of, F-35s would be lighting up any military structure in Iran and having them destroyed.

When I was there in 2016 they were still flying missions almost daily like clock work. There is so much more shit going on than you can even imagine. I have to leave it at that. One interesting thing was watching the Emir's son fly around like a maniac in his F-16 every day. Very good air show pilot. F-16 can maneuver way more than ever displayed at airshows I've watched. DFACs had great food though. Just not much to do unless you have a pass to go off base into the city. Beautiful and clean. Great people of all nations and countless malls, Ferrari world, clubs, and places to eat.
Would Maverick missiles have a big enough bang to take out the speedboat type enemies? If so, I am thinking you could technically carry more "bombs" than something laser guided?
Yes, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Morvarid, two (ironically) Iranian F-4 Phantoms armed with 6 Mavericks each managed to sink 7 Iraqi ships, 3 Osa II's (235 t each), and 4 P-4's (24 t each). i.e. with those numbers, larger PT boats (far larger than the speedboats in this simulation) require service from at the absolute most, 2 missiles each, possibly only one each.
I'm still at the beginning of the video but one problem I have is the representation of the FACs. Theres a lot of different kinds and many have more than just a few machine guns and a MANPAD. Some have torpedoes, rocket launchers, or anti-ship missiles
imagine being some conscript on an Iranian dingy with machine guns when a harpoon missile more expensive than the boat blows you outta the water damn hard life
Yes they could, America can always do that. That's exactly why Iran switched to investing in ground based missiles and drone so their enemy will visit them inside their small strait, then turn it into hellish chaos that blocks sea commerce of persian gulf, increasing fuel price even more and indirectly choke their enemy economy without one step away from their homeland. A massive navy still sails with fuel and funds. You can't slap reactor in every ship.
I don't know how you guys can do all this. I've been on DCS for almost 6 months now. I am sending every available minute learning the F16. It gets overwhelming from time to time. I've had to develop new ways to process data. Landing is a good example. I find doing a verbal check list and talking my way through the process is the best way to achieve the proper landing consistency. AAR is just not something I can do yet. So I don't know how you guys can be effective in multiple different aircraft.
There's no way we sunk half their navy in 12 hours and you asked that. They literally have less capabilities now than back during operation praying mantis.
It's not a question about whether they could or not. It's a question of what way is cheapest? Probably a submarine with torpedoes as torps cannot be used for other tasks unlike missiles.
with those small patrol boats so closely packed together. wonder if dropping multiple CBU's dropped from FL200 will potentially kill multiple boats with several bomblets.
A couple of critiques on wargaming (sorry Cap!) US targeting and Enemy challenge. Since the computer doesn't share and designate targets like US ships, an analog work around would be to space US ships in a bow to stern line with whatever distance at speed gives first round of missiles a chance to impact first row. For Enemy challenge, I suppose you split targets so everyone would have a chance equally to hit equal types, but quite obviously an actual naval flotilla would have their small boats surrounding their large boats as screen. Otherwise, fun times, Cheers!
It's an interesting experiment, but it's very clear that if this were to happen in reality it would go nothing like your simulation as it would involve experienced professional's who actually would not have software glitches and vessels refusing to take damage
Typically, the USN would also have at least one CSG in the vicinity (accompanied by 1 Ticonderoga, and 3-4 DDGs, and sometimes 1-2 SSNs) with about 12-24x Super Hornets for CAP/Strike, 4 Growlers for SEAD, and 24x F35s (ideal). There also might be an ESG (Expeditionary Strike Group) with a large deck amphib with about 12x AV8B/F35B. All that firepower alone would make things very "proportional".
I would like to see less Flight III's in the future. Unless the combat scenario is best vs best, it's not super likely there would be any, especially not multiple, flight III's. I's and II's are still very capable, but it adds just a little more accuracy.

The Chinese are more defensive, being mostly based in the South China Sea with smaller ships and air and missile support from the mainland and many islands. I don't understand most of what you're saying (terminology, not accent problems, I don't think) and I don't know what software you're using, but I enjoy your videos. Of course, anytime I get to see USA win is fun. 😁 Thanks for making the content!
1 rapid dragon with cluster option with deconfliction
oof that would be a NIGHTMARE for me to set up!
An interesting scenario might be the Iranian revolutionary guard vs their conventional military or other countries that have a two teir military
It's honestly quite difficult off the top of my head to imagine it's a powerful the early bird class is. They really are impressive.
Big boom-boom and sexy fly-bys. Very entertaining, chaps. Lovely flying.
Nice carrier landing Cap! RyanAir requests you submit your resume when you're done flying for the Navy.
Al Dhafra Air base is in the middle of nowhere in the Abu Dhabi desert. US has every asset you can imagine stationed there.
Real life has one thing going for it: The graphic is amazing!
Would Maverick missiles have a big enough bang to take out the speedboat type enemies? If so, I am thinking you could technically carry more "bombs" than something laser guided?
Yes, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Morvarid, two (ironically) Iranian F-4 Phantoms armed with 6 Mavericks each managed to sink 7 Iraqi ships, 3 Osa II's (235 t each), and 4 P-4's (24 t each).
i.e. with those numbers, larger PT boats (far larger than the speedboats in this simulation) require service from at the absolute most, 2 missiles each, possibly only one each.
they blow up tanks what do you think lol
@@Robert-hy3vv but sometimes in DCS bombs that you expect to be fatal in real life doesn't quite do the same in game
"its never a warcrime for the first time"
Best quote of the day
I'm still at the beginning of the video but one problem I have is the representation of the FACs. Theres a lot of different kinds and many have more than just a few machine guns and a MANPAD. Some have torpedoes, rocket launchers, or anti-ship missiles
Well done *_REAPERS_* -CHEERS-
imagine being some conscript on an Iranian dingy with machine guns when a harpoon missile more expensive than the boat blows you outta the water damn hard life
We might just find out real soon......
Deconflict so that missiles all strike the right targets at the same time = "TIME ON TARGET"!
Good Video guys!
Always good to see Fly in a video
32:50 Do we have a Sabaton fan in our presence?
I believe the aphorism you're looking for is, "Overkill is underrated."
The LRASM missile seems to share a visual profile of the Yf-23. At least from some aspect angles.
This game reminds me alot of digital image design f-22 air dominance fighter with red sea operations.
There's no way we sunk half their navy in 12 hours and you asked that. They literally have less capabilities now than back during operation praying mantis.
Hey Cap! Just out of curiosity, long time ago you said anything about your pc setup. What cpu and gpu are you rocking now? 😁🙏
SM-2s actually are over-the-horizon capable via inertial guidance.
I'm surprised to see so many items in play without crashing your computer.
Did you get an upgrade?
Air land and sea at scale where the loses of one wargame effects the rest
A series of wargames that takes attrition into account for each successive engagement
By at scale i mean divide it by whatever you half too to be able to run in DCS @@gigaslave
I can't wait to get my gear together and learn to fly so I can eventually join this.
It's not a question about whether they could or not. It's a question of what way is cheapest? Probably a submarine with torpedoes as torps cannot be used for other tasks unlike missiles.
It's hillarious how the rockets have a higher cost than the boats they're sinking
WHAT!? No-one picked up on the Dawsons Creek theme tune lyric that was casually dropped in?? That's a war crime by itself!!
Great video, cap and GRs. You know the next logical scenario will be: Can the Pakistani Navy beat the Iranian Navy. ;)
with those small patrol boats so closely packed together. wonder if dropping multiple CBU's dropped from FL200 will potentially kill multiple boats with several bomblets.
The Pentagon is taking notes....
I heard the Fat Electrician being quoted. Very nice.
Matrix playing this on hard mode and everyone else giving him a hard time about it at the end.
In relation to the surface fleet, would the US not set it up like they did in operation praying mantis? 3 groups of ships with their own missions?
The question is what Navy could the US not destroy in one day.
Probably China because it's so big and Russia because it's so scattered.
I don't know what countries like India and the Philippines have.
@@donkeysunited china and russia wouldnt do shit to any boat in the US navy lmao what are you smoking. really even bringing up india or the phillippines LOL
@@Robert-hy3vv China has decent boats, more ships than the us. Your cockiness is blinding you
@@Robert-hy3vv China has the biggest navy in the world and are rapidly building modern ships, much faster than the US. Also it has been recently proven that the US Navy is much smaller than thought as 20% are the useless LCS.
I see the US Navy being strong in force projection, using their many aircraft carriers and big ships on open seas. The Chinese are more defensive, being mostly based in the South China Sea with smaller ships and air and missile support from the mainland and many islands.
As to which side would beat the other in a day depends on where it is fought - the US would win on the open sea but get wrecked anywhere near China. And this is assuming they stick to conventional weapons. Once nukes get used (missiles, bombs or torpedoes), both sides would be wiped out.
@@ingtons437only when you consider all the little boats they call ships. Try naval vessels they have few. And for their so called new fleet it’s the same old jump carriers that Russia and china have had for years. Your stupidity is showing. The us navy is the most powerful ever. We could half our navy and still take both Russia and china on.
11:09 He thinks he's a torpedo! :D
I LOVE YOUR Sarcastic British mouth. 😅😅😅😅 I am new subscriber and I love your channel way better than growling.Sidewinder that's for sure.
If was in command of Iran's naval defense. I have a into flotillas lead by a frigate or corvette. then uses by lighter FAC a defensive screen.
We war gamed this a lot in my 21yrs and a squad of 22’s did without a single loss every time
I may be the 836th person to say this, can we get growling sidewinder 1v1 vrs grim reapers video please? I want to see if that guy is as good as his videos make him out to be. Let’s gooooo?!?!
Indeed!!!
Nice work, those Iranian FAC all have some sort of ASM missiles, did the onrs used here have that armament?
