I brought a had dye yarn before. I just simply thought that I just wind it up in a ball with those strings. It didn't work, so I threw the yarn away. That was 6 months ago. I'd thought I'll try to again, using this method, and it works! So thank you.

I used to unwind my skein in a similar way but I did it round the back of chair. In the olden days wool came in skeins all the time. greetings from New Zealand

I spent hours and hours last night untangling a hank of yarn. My yarn shop will wind into a ball for me, but I was in a hurry and didn’t want to wait, thinking, it won’t be so hard to do on my own. Skip to today with second hank and I found your video. So much easier to do things with help. Thanks for the instruction and hank #2 is now in a ball with no headache or wasted time or solving the knot puzzle of my first errant attempt.
You're a life saver!! Bought two hanks and the first definitely did not go well. With this method it took me almost 40 minutes to wrap about 160m of yarn, much better than the hours I spent untangling the other one 😭

I had been so intimidated by hanks of yarn in the past. I quit knitcrate b/c I never got around to winding the hanks. I could only admire the pretty yarns & that wasn't what I had in mind. Now I can finally use my pretty yarn & buy more.
I have an inexpensive wooden yarn swift & yarn ball winder. I desperately wanted to use..so instead of my legs I suddenly realize how it was all supposed to work out. However, the best part about your method, when it comes to knitting/crocheting socks, where I need an equal amount of yarn separated into 2 balls..I can weight out the yarn as I go. Doesn't work using the ball winder.

great idea! I can't do spread leg very well... ouch! old age.. but, I'll do 2 chairs like in the olden days. Thanks! Your daughter is adorable and gorgeous!
1. leave a 6" tail
2. hold tail in palm with ring & pinkie fingers
3. wrap 10-20 times over first & middle fingers
4. remove wraps and place on thumb
5. wrap 5-6 times
6. turn ball on thumb
7. repeat 4 & 5 until finished
8. insert final end under outside wraps
You'll have a center pull ball that won't roll around or need a yarn bowl. 😊
This is what I do, too 😂💜. One day I'll invest in a ball winder! LOL

Why do they package yarn like this!!??? I’m new to crocheting and got a Hank of yarn today and just wanted to start my project but ended up almost in tears with my giant tangle pile 😭
Usually hand dyed fibers are wound into hanks due to the dye process! 😊

before finding this video - i tried to unwind it , then got it all messy and and i spent almost 4 days ( on and off ) trying to untangle it - almost lost my marbles .

you see where she had trouble towards the end of the skein? I bought skeins from some low life company and they were all like that from start to end, they weren't cheap either.

I need help with my hank. I've looked on youtube, and asked people, but I guess normally, hanks only have two ties? Mine has like 6 so I have NO IDEA how to cut it, I don't want to cut the wrong thing
I would suggest going through one tie at a time. Trace the knot with your hand and if you don’t see/feel an end point/if you tug on it and it pulls the skein then it’s probably part of the skein. Good luck!!
