Very good instructions! Wish I had found this video before my nightmare with my first ever twisted hank.
Thank you! So clear. I love that there's no music during instruction 🙂
Best tutorial I've seen on this and I've watched quite a few today. Great point about cutting below the knots. Thank you!
Afer annihilating a previous hank and tossing it, i can say happily I’ve just wrapped 3 enormous perfect balls of wool. It simply didn’t occur to me that there was a special way of unravelling a hank. Thanks so much, i had no trouble at all. Your instructions were perfect.
Thank you! My first experience with winding a yarn Hank was on a moving train. What a frustrating mess! Thanks again.
Thank you so much. I have a winder, but sometimes I don't want to set it all up. Also the wrapping by itself kind be kind of zen like. Relaxing.
You have so much patience ❤ thanks so much for this video 😊
We can send a man to the moon but we can't figure out how to package yarn so it doesn't tangle AND why don't manufacturers put a little colored tag or something to show which end to start with??? That being said, this method really helped!
This is great 🌟 The info on the hank is invaluable. I have a winder and a swift but like another viewer wrote, sometimes it’s just relaxing/calming to sit and wind by hand. 😁
I’m afraid I prefer winding around a toilet paper core at a 45 degree angle. (See other videos on how to do this). You get a cake shape instead of a ball but I doesn’t take quite so long and you have a middle tail to pull 😏.
Thanks for sharing the really great, great video.
Happily knitting, Patty 🧑🏻🦳
It took a couple of hours, but I've finally wound my 650mtr ball lolol Thanks so much~!!
I did this method and it took about an hour for 76 yards. Then I did the same yardage skein strung between two chair backs and it took about half an hour.
This was such helpful info I have tried to roll a ball from a Hank a few times but it was tough I was not doing anything right lol
Thank you for taking the mystery out of Mr Hank! 😅
Thank you💗
Yarn saver ty!
Just finished unwinding 2 skeins of single ply silk....
It. Took. Forever. Lolol about 6 hours total. Almost 1000 yards.
Because of it beingle a single ply, when finished you want it to felt a little... so this stuff was stuck together quite a bit lol.
My fingers have never cramped so much in my life lol.
Using the ball method was definitely easier than using my ball winder. Simply too much of a headache and my skeins were too big to fit on the ball winder. I may invest in a ball winding dowel stick thing lol
Thank you so much for the easy instructions! I wasted one hank of yarn.
Why don't they come already caked @-@
A few different reasons but majority of hand dyed yarn comes from small independent yarn dyers like me and in order to offer it being pre-caked, we would need large machines to cake it. Also, you would need at least one person to manage the machines and have the space to have those machines. If dyers used a smaller winder and swift for single use to cake the yarn, that is extremely demanding on the shoulder to wind hundreds of hanks a month. Hope that helps explain why.
I like a center pull yarn, this ball won’t have that convenience.
This tutorial is focused on how to hand wind from a hank. You can combine the hank-handling (lol) techniques learned here with another tutorial on how to make a center-pull.
