Thanks for the vid. I'm replacing a 2013 F150 rear bumper with the parking sensors. You have the only vid on youtube I've seen thus far that also shows how to handle the parking sensors, even though it's a 2015-20 F150, there's still a lot of similarities. Thanks for the video!
@westonverhulst, your welcome, I'm glad the video helped you out!
Awesome info, in a progressive manner. You made my day! Thank you
Glad to help out! One thing I would recommend is spraying down the whole bumper with a good primer before applying the paint coat. I've had the plastic step pad wear down the paint and cause some rusting. I plan to make a follow up video showing this. It could also be attributed to my painting environment.
I have a 2020 f150. I am saving $1600 by doing this myself rather than letting the shop do it. Thanks for the video!
@zacharysimmons2967, I'm glad to help out! I would recommend putting down several coats of primer before adding the paint color and make sure to over spray the visible area and under the bumper pad. I would also spray as many clear coats on as you can.
I used "Touchup Direct" spray paint on my 2018 F-150 Blue Jeans N1 Metallic rear bumpers and the color was too dark.
I purchased "American Touch Up" Spray paint Blue Jeans N1 Metallic and color was perfect match.
@FloridaCostalGuy, that's good to know thank you for sharing.
This video helped me big time! Thanks
Glad to help out 🤙🏻
Problem reinstalling trailer plug into new bumper. Do the metal flanges on the bumper have to click into the plug?
@@JoshuaBurleson-kp4hm I would pull the trailer plug harness plug through the hole and plug it into the plastic trailer plug on the outside then slide it back into place and the metal tabs will click and hold it in place.
@jacobsupgrades thanks!! I went ahead and pulled the tabs on the harness back and shifting them over the metal flanges of the bumper. All secured 💪
Great video, thank you.
I appreciate your support, thank you.
Great vid on replacing the bumpers. Unfortunately, that is going to rust in no time, that primer is not an epoxy or etching primer. Should have sanded it off. Trust me. DO not follow this paint process, you will regret it.
@@Rucraz2 thank you for the comment. Yes, it has started to rust at the corner by the bumper pad and working its way downward. I plan to do a follow up video showing it.
Any variance from new and old bumper paint job. How is it holding up?
I’m glad you asked. I’ve recently noticed the plastic step has worn some paint off on the corner of the bumper and it’s starting to rust. It looks like the bumper might need another clear coat.
Otherwise it’s holding up fairly well and looks much better than before replacing the bumper.
@@jacobsupgrades I have a small dent in that same side you replaced and paint scraped off a bit. I may just buy that panel like you did and take to body shop and match. Body shops take you coming and going. That's why I liked your approach.
@@shieldoftrust , that's a good idea to get that professional finish.
And I repainted my front bumper same way .. clear cracked in a few months
@Christopher Murray, I'm curious, how many clear coat passes did you make? Was the metal cold when you applied it? My rear bumper is holding up well currently but those front bumper take a beating going down the road.
@@jacobsupgrades its was in my garage not too cold def not warm though was spring time... I did about 3 coats of clear
Thanks, dude!
@jass7981, your welcome, glad I could help.
@@jacobsupgrades after disconnecting the trailer connector, does it just pop out through the front?
@@jass7981 you have to depress two metal tabs on the back side and it will fall out the front
How do you release the trim clips?
Remove your license plate, trailer plug, license plate lights, backup sensors and spare lock first. Then pull up along the step pad starting at the ends and towards the middle at the license plate lights.
Where does the ground wire goes ??
I don't recall running across a ground wire. If it has a ring terminal I'm sure placing it around any of the large bolts holding the bumper end caps on to the frame would work fine.
Where did you buy the replacement bumper ?
@sgthaunted33, I purchased the replacement bumper through amazon. amzn.to/3flSQqK the rest of my project list and product links are in the description. Reach out if you have any other questions.
anyone find a similar bumper for a 2021+?
@ahhbility, those 2021 bumpers are hard to find. I would recommend reaching out to the Ford Parts department for help.
Where u buy half???
here on amazon, Power coated rear bumper face bar end cap w/ sensor holes amzn.to/3flSQqK
I just hit my truck this morning my truck is magma red
@veraxbr8742, this process should work well for fixing your bumper. I would do a couple extra coats of clear coat to make sure it doesn't wear off as quickly. This is way cheaper than going through a body shop or insurance.
Alright thank you for me it happen on the passenger side kind of upset but over it. Where did you get yout paint from?
@@veraxbr8742 I bought my paint through amazon at TouchUp Direct - amzn.to/3DRLVyE I'm sure they have your Magma Red color too. One can of paint and one can of clear coat was plenty for this project.
Risky painting environment
@Christopher Murray, it is I agree. Unfortunately this was my only option at the time.
