kyahs reasoning for not liking typical black movies where we’re always portrayed as gangsters or basketball players is exactly why i admire “nerdy black girl” movies where the characters are engineers or a black person being a main character in an anime in a non racist way
i completely agree with what you said about black struggle/pain being excessively talked about in movies/shows and i go through the same thing, i just stopped watching shows like that too bc it gets so TIRING seeing the same concepts being used over and over again like why can't we just have a fun little show of black kids enjoying high school? a nice sci-fi show or something? abbott elementary was such a breath of fresh air bc there haven't been any extreme topics talked about 😭 like damn can we not have fun too? why do we always have to be known for our struggle?
fr like we understand our struggles, we live through it everyday we don’t need to reminded about it every single time we want to get a refresh and relax through comfort shows
i seen somebody say “black lighting on netflix has superpowers” when it’s literally a black super hero saving ppl in the TRENCHES from GANG BANGING and DRUGS 😭
the thing is, how at the end of the video they speak about "stereotypes" or wtv but are using those stereotypes to identfy the black males, AND STILL FAILED... kicked my man Drevin out cause he didnt relate to more so of the black "struggles"
I finally sat down and watched the vid and I completely agree with watch the shows about black people struggling. Our pain shouldn’t be entertainment and a joke but we do need more shows where we have the happy ending and the good outcomes of the black community 🤷🏽♀️idk I’m just talkin
Yes like I don’t like watching black shows either , like power and wired, like that stuff be boring to me cuz I live it everyday, so I be wanting to watch something different like anime or something 😂
Your reasoning for not liking Traditional black art is same why I don’t like tradition Armenian movies music, they mostly about our struggle and genocide, and I get really hyped when something different pops. Even when we are from different races and parts of the world, have more in common then we might think
@niyalove7477 White people can be from the hood too just like black people can be from the suburbs. When he said “we” he didn’t mean all of them he meant him and his family. It was a good way for him to get an answer in there without touching on the micro aggression topics.
Not surprised the mixed boy wasn’t embraced by his Jewish fam but the white one was treated as blood. That speaks volumes! We literally don’t have the hate they do in us but we’re perceived as the evil ones 🤯
Bullshit. I guess it's just jewish thing, not white, cause you are jew only if your mother is jew. So him having black father separated him from his jewish family. Don't rise hate between "races", you are fool for that. Sry for bad english
That's 100% cultural and religion. His mother knew full well in that community they accept nothing outside it's common practice among other religions around the world as well. I get it it's sad because he's sad about it, but his mother made a choice to step out on her faith and culture, and they acted accordingly. I'm not even religious, but to say they have hate because they walk the walk is crazy. In all reality, I've watched black people react to this video, like 40 different times now, and in almost every single one, my boy rob gets immense amounts of hate and prejudice for "acting black." The audacity of a white man "acting black" when he's harder than everyone on the show. I promise, go watch the other creators react to this video they're all the same.
"He look foine" Bro i said the same thing 😂😂 I'm a black girl and when they was saying references n shi trying to find the black people, I was lowkey tryna see if I could get it right😂😂
27:35 i really didn't like seeing movies that had a full black cast be based on slavery. I was glad to see "Us" have black protagonists and yet they didn't focus on struggle with racial things. I want to see me more movies and shows that have full black casts with ALL kinds of things that don't have struggle alone. I'm on the exact page as Kyah, its good to educate YES but there should be other stuff too.
I woulda BEEN eliminated bc we definitely only put 1 cup of sugar in the KoolAid & we called it by the flavor, not the color & most classic Black movies I wasn’t allowed to watch growing up, so I never did
11:01 pls men are so unaware. That was such an obvious red flag😂😂😂😂😂 they sitting up there explaining it to him when a black man would KNOW what they tb
As an outsider (South american 90's kid), I was surprised to hear that they see black people on TV always being associated with struggle. Maybe that's a modern TV thing (I don't watch TV anymore)... back in the day, the black character was usually the funny guy. Oh, another black stereotype that we outsiders see on TV is the church full of black people singing.
Funnily enough, in my dad's home country, Uzbekistan, the only widely distributed movies with black people in them are superhero movies and The Princess and the Frog. I'd be curious to hear Kyah's thoughts on that (and other black people as well), since on the one hand, that means there's no gangster stereotype at play there for black people, but on the other hand, I'm not sure it's better to be mostly represented in superhero or fantasy genre pieces.
Those luxury items aint even luxury. Those companies spend more money on marketing than the actual products. They're made in the same factories the cheap stuff from Walmart comes from. Only difference is people know the name and recognize that it must've cost you a lot. It's the biggest scam
When it was just Bevin and Rob, you should automatically know it’s Rob Bevin actually said he was black and quote “ I’m a black man”. While Rob never once said it, because he knows he isn’t
It’s still a blackcent regardless of how he was raised. 21:14 I know we don’t want to boil it down to that however if we have to do the work to validate his accent then it is what it is.
Also, this game is to see if he can blend in with the black people just on how he speaks. The Black guys are code switching, meaning that’s their vernacular and the white guy who was raised around black people is playing it up. Question: Can white people who were raised around black people code switch? If yes, then why?
