I was in a non deploying medical clinic. We all wanted to deploy and everyone we brought it up our commander said “If you’re not here to do your job nobody flys”. We all serve in some capacity that is important to the mission as a whole. I did the best I could with my skills to serve those who sacrificed more. She’s just knocking him down a few blocks

Believe it or not, most cases of "Stolen Valor" are perpetrated by people who actually DID serve but who are "padding" their service with claims or exaggerations of their service. There are actual groups of Vets who dedicate their "Retirements" to exposing these individuals. One dude is a former Navy SEAL and he is quite active in "outing" people who are guilty of "Stolen Valor" mostly claiming they are Navy SEALS. Then there are many like me who put the uniform in the closet and put that part of our lives to bed to hopefully never be awakened ever again. However, since we are Vets who were Honorably Discharged with no Serious medical disability reasons we are able to be "recalled" by the military for "emergencies" until the age of 60 if you put your 20 years in and until the age of 54 (recently raised last month) if it was less than 20 years. It's a very gray area and if we need to "recall" Vets at the age of 59, we are in serious trouble LOL. Like Aliens invading serious trouble LOL.

Yeah, not a military movie but I was trying to watch the movie Backdraft right after it came out, with my Firefighter/EMT cousin. 40 min in, I finally had to ask him if we could just watch it once without commentary. Then, if he wanted to watch it a second time, he could give me a play by play rundown of what was accurate for a real life scenario and what scenes were basically for dramatic effect and ratings lol. I loved him explaining the movie to me and learning what was the real deal and what was exaggerated or toned down, but I'm sure glad I asked for the first watch to be a no talking allowed view, lol 😂. It was hard for him to enjoy watching as he was anticipating an inaccurate scene. I finally got him to relax and told him to just pretend he wasn't a Firefighter/EMT and was a garbage man lol.

Ramstein is one of the most sought after locations. I was fortunate to get stationed there after Osan as my follow-on choice. I guess Ramstein did cause me to have a few hang overs from all the good beer and wine….

Reminds me of a visit I made with my young daughter to a hardware store . There were two Hispanic men in the store and they were checking my daughter out . I wasn’t happy because they were leering, but I let it go . Then one of the geniuses decided to tell his buddy to check out her breasts in Spanish. That’s when it got ugly for them . Spanish shares some like words with my Portuguese heritage. I’m blonde with blue eyes . I guess they thought they were concealing their gross comments about a little girl at the time . I laid into them with some Portuguese mixed with English and Spanish. They ran out of the store empty handed after being laid into by a “ Papa Bear “ .

A combat vet isn't going to talk down to the person who cooks their meals, a quartermaster who makes sure they have the gear they need, a medic who stitches them back together when they get shot, or the cargo pilot who gets them home. This dialogue is awful and obviously written by someone who was bullied in middle school who shared their feelings in a diary and now thinks they're a writer.
a combat vet WILL defend their friends if they are attacked verbally or physically. Also if you serve, you trash-talk, anyone who has served knows you had better be prepared to receive it back! This script was horrible, but so was the above logic in context to what was happening.

My son is in the service. People mentioned all the time what a good person and respectful he is. I met his military buddies. I also met veterans as well. Nobody lied to me. It’s my own experience.

The writers really missed the mark on this. One service member attacking another’s service because he didn’t get stationed anywhere “badass” enough for Hollywood is way more out of line than 3 drunk dudes awkwardly hitting on women-while maintaining a respectful distance and not approaching them.

This level of trash talk has been known to lead to immediate fisticuffs. Yes, these dudes are creepy. On the face of it, they’re not as creepy as the writers seem to think. If they were well dressed, clean shaven, and standing next to a Ferrari, this scene would be the start of a romcom. Now apparently they’re all SA/murderers, so that happens later in the film. But again, most predatory types tend to get closer to the women they are trying to assault, not politely wait in a corner saying things like “woohey “ and “Then there were 3.”
i'm a 100% service connected disabled combat vet and i never wear one of those caps. it's saying to the world that your military service is your ONLY accomplishment in life you are proud of and maybe that may have been just getting by. the VA hospitals have many of these slugs hanging out smoking and coughing and with the alcohol shakes and with their cap on that makes them feel so important of course.
I dunno. I've met some Korean and WWII vets, and those caps mean the world to them. They were tough SOBs who came back and built good lives, but never forgot their country. It's okay if you don't wear it, but the guys that do are something special, too.

For the vast majority, where you served is based on where the military needs you. I was stationed at MAD-Miesaus Army Depot. Ramstein was an Air Base so he must have been AF. My daughter is as born at LAMC-Landstuhl AB and we just took all the kids over this summer. Great trip but man Miesau has changed since I left in ‘87. The schnitzel stand in as bought out and it’s now a kabob place. The gasthaus across the street burned down. The Italian place down the road is really run down. Hey, but Munich and Heidelberg are still beautiful and Berlin is huge!

A combat vet isn't going to talk down to the person who cooks their meals, a quartermaster who makes sure they have the gear they need, a medic who stitches them back together when they get shot, or the cargo pilot who gets them home. This dialogue is awful and obviously written by someone who was bullied in middle school who shared their feelings in a diary and now thinks they're a writer.

The writers really missed the mark on this. One service member attacking another’s service because he didn’t get stationed anywhere “badass” enough for Hollywood is way more out of line than 3 drunk dudes awkwardly hitting on women-while maintaining a respectful distance and not approaching them.

Yes, these dudes are creepy. On the face of it, they’re not as creepy as the writers seem to think. If they were well dressed, clean shaven, and standing next to a Ferrari, this scene would be the start of a romcom.
Now apparently they’re all SA/murderers, so that happens later in the film. But again, most predatory types tend to get closer to the women they are trying to assault, not politely wait in a corner saying things like “woohey “ and “Then there were 3.”

i'm a 100% service connected disabled combat vet and i never wear one of those caps. it's saying to the world that your military service is your ONLY accomplishment in life you are proud of and maybe that may have been just getting by. the VA hospitals have many of these slugs hanging out smoking and coughing and with the alcohol shakes and with their cap on that makes them feel so important of course.
I dunno. I've met some Korean and WWII vets, and those caps mean the world to them. They were tough SOBs who came back and built good lives, but never forgot their country. It's okay if you don't wear it, but the guys that do are something special, too.
The guy was being a douche, but you wont often see servicemember trash another for where they served. At lesst not amongst civilians.
For the vast majority, where you served is based on where the military needs you. In 03, i could have begged daily to go to iraq and it would have been denied every time, as i was an aircraft mechanic in san diego and no way were they gonna just lose a qualified person needlessly.

I was stationed at MAD-Miesaus Army Depot. Ramstein was an Air Base so he must have been AF. My daughter is as born at LAMC-Landstuhl AB and we just took all the kids over this summer. Great trip but man Miesau has changed since I left in ‘87. The schnitzel stand in as bought out and it’s now a kabob place. The gasthaus across the street burned down. The Italian place down the road is really run down. Hey, but Munich and Heidelberg are still beautiful and Berlin is huge!

I’d be worried if any armed forces member doesn’t know their east from their west. Ramstein is 16 clicks west of Kaiserslautern, not east, though if she was in the army I guess this can be understandable.
