I'm 14 and I think she's the most gorgeous, Innocent, strong, funny, witty, passionate, hard working, actress and singer I have ever heard, seen or ever will see. She was the most immensely talented, caring, compassionate, loving, person I've ever seen, And Boy oh boy could she belt out a song better than anyone I've ever seen with immense emotion, power, and vibrato, and when she sings a song, she doesn't just belt it, and she's a heck of a lot better than today's singers with just a microphone good orchestra and nothing else , and when she sing a song she doesn't just belt it, she is it and she pours every last drop of pure RAW talent and emotion out of it. It's like each syllable is being excorsized from her body when she sings. The way she emotes in her face and the slight looks she gives like shes on the verge of laughing or crying. They convey so much more then any other singer I've ever seen.

How in the world could a show with such a great star and singer be cancelled? Go figure. Her voice was pure gold. Those of us who grew up listening to her, recognized and appreciated her talent then and still do now. We were forever changed by the great Ms Judy Garland.
Paytonfit I believe that the broadcasting company was as ignorant then as they are today. Great people NEVER die because they are NEVER FORGOTTEN. What amazes me is that no matter how CBS or MGM or any of those chronies tried to PAYBACK, yes even the Academy, she still rose above it with her amazing, incredible talent and just her being, if you will, that couldn’t be quelched. They all stuck together, like the Bobsy Twins or group- MGM, because they fired her but they couldn’t keep her down, CBS stuck with whatever MGM wanted and of course, the ACADEMY followed suit. All started with good ol’ PAYBACK. MGM thought they could chew her up and spit her out. (They worked the kids back then to near the exhaustion, then filled them full of pills to keep them working.) Judy was their greatest piece of property, she gave and gave all she had but when she needed help, time to charge her batteries, time to get the help she needed, they weren’t there for her. She was just a money bank for most everyone in her life, the studio, the stupid business managers, even husbands, all picking the meat off the bones. Then studios want to get more showings in a day so they scalp and hijack A STAR IS BORN and take out reels Willy Nilly so the producers (Luft) and the team have to put in still photos so the movie makes sense. And then there’s the Academy, a bunch of puppets; need I say more. I was just a kid when Judy lost the Academy Award, but even I could figure that one out, (with the help of my dad. Never the less, It didn’t take a nuclear scientist to figure it out.)

I read a book about the show and all the struggles along the way. They never really knew how the show should work with Judy, and I think they had three producers within that one season. Insane.
This particular performance on her show was actually better than her film performance of the song! No matter the song, no matter the setting...Hollywood's greatest all-time entertainer always gave 110% and more to her audience in a most appreciative manner that made you love her back! Her loss of the Oscar was the biggest robbery in Hollywood's history and everyone there knew it, too. However, they can't steal the love and adoration of her fans. Her loss was so tragic and, sadly, we'll never see the likes of her again.

Every time I listen to Judy Garland, I get homesick. Having grown up watching her on TV I was always so moved by her performance especially when they televised the concert at Carnegie Hall.
Garland was ridiculously robbed of that Best Actress Oscar and everyone knew it then and knows it now-almost embarrassing for Grace Kelly, who really wasn’t all that remarkable in a fairly forgettable film. But, perhaps, Garland owns the greatest Oscar of all Oscars-the one she was awarded in 1939 for her efforts in Wizard of Oz and Babes in Arms. She won that Oscar for an effort, a performance, a movie that remains the most-watched film in all of history, and a song that has already been awarded as the greatest movie song of the century. An Oscar given JUST for Judy, because she was special. Maybe Judy’s 1939 Oscar is actually the biggest, brightest, most prestigious Oscar that was ever awarded. Think about it. This IS the very best version of "Man.." recorded. When looking at and hearing the movie version, the pace is slightly frenetic - you as much "see" her sing, as "hear" her sing. Here, in perfect voice, perfect presentation - makes this almost eerie.

For me, the greatest singers, and performers in general, are those with the ability to make every performance different and equally magnificent, and Judy Garland does just that. She really was the true all-in-one performing package that just got rang out of it like a damn washcloth and thrown to the garbage can. I really have so much respect for this beautiful little woman. She makes your personal troubles look very stupid & microscopic when you've learned about everything she went through in her life while still never totally giving up of it from all the crap she had to put up with...which was an awful lot for just one person to deal with.
Her TV series was the apex of her great abilities & beauty... this rendition of The Man That Got Away is stellar, less vitriolic than the film version but no less explosively powerful... looks beautiful... Garland rocks!

Out of all the legendary Hollywood Female actors. This women right here is my favorite of all-time. There is something so alluring about Judy...this is coming from a guy that was born in 1984. I would of love to sit down and just talk with Judy for hours
Yesterday I saw the 3 hours version of "A star is born". Watching and listening to Judy is a religious experience. I can't get enough of her. Absolutely one of the greatest artists of all time. Maybe the biggest robbery in the history of the Academy Awards

I don’t know if you know the story of how the 30 minutes got restored, but it took many, many months and searching through the archives of various storage facilities in New York and Los Angeles. Judy's voice is much like Bing Crosby's voice, in that, as we listen as ordinary male/female persons, we wish or imagine that that's how we sound. It's not vocal acrobatics, gifted training or supremacy of talent, its that they capture some common essence of the sublime that is humanity.
There are certain songs in "The Great American Songbook" that the great singers (Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett, etc.) "own" by their interpretation of the song whenever they sing the song. Judy Garland "owns" "The man that got away" from 1954 to the present

Every time I listen to Judy Garland, I get homesick. Having grown up watching her on TV I was always so moved by her performance especially when they televised the concert at Carnegie Hall.
She was very talented actress and singer and her talent had burnt her from the inside. I get goosebumps from her singing

Garland was ridiculously robbed of that Best Actress Oscar and everyone knew it then and knows it now-almost embarrassing for Grace Kelly, who really wasn’t all that remarkable in a fairly forgettable film.
But, perhaps, Garland owns the greatest Oscar of all Oscars-the one she was awarded in 1939 for her efforts in Wizard of Oz and Babes in Arms.
She won that Oscar for an effort, a performance, a movie that remains the most-watched film in all of history, and a song that has already been awarded as the greatest movie song of the century. An Oscar given JUST for Judy, because she was special.
Maybe Judy’s 1939 Oscar is actually the biggest, brightest, most prestigious Oscar that was ever awarded. Think about it.

This IS the very best version of "Man.." recorded. When looking at and hearing the movie version, the pace is slightly frenetic - you as much "see" her sing, as "hear" her sing. Here, in perfect voice, perfect presentation - makes this almost eerie.
Oh yes - the movie's version is at a faster tempo, and it doesn't move me like this version does.
Absolutely no one could sing that song like Judy. I've always felt it was a crying shame Judy's father didn't live to see her success.
Just stopped by and saw Judy...how could I resist? I miss her, her voice, her jokes, her laughter,her stories. There will never be another Judy Garland!
For me, the greatest singers, and performers in general, are those with the ability to make every performance different and equally magnificent, and Judy Garland does just that. There's not a single note, a single breath or pause that is wasted, that doesn't hold meaning.
Blessed were those who grew up enjoying not just with her talent and passion, but also with her wit and humour!

I love how she uses a situation (her Oscar loss) that most entertainers would use as an object of pity, or anger, for laughs. Though probably not how she truly felt, shows how gracious she really was, or seemed to be.

She really was the true all-in-one performing package that just got rang out of it like a damn washcloth and thrown to the garbage can. I really have so much respect for this beautiful little woman. She makes your personal troubles look very stupid & microscopic when you've learned about everything she went through in her life while still never totally giving up of it from all the crap she had to put up with...which was an awful lot for just one person to deal with.
