Just came across your channel, been binge watching your videos. They’re awesome. I hope you stay in China forever so I can watch all your adventures! ❤❤❤
🙏🏾 as much as I like it… as a foreigner I doubt I could live here forever. Visa policies… age working restrictions… We’ll see how much longer… I’ve been lucky to get this far.
Gwiz, I just read this article on Hiromi a female Japanese piano player. I'm sure you know of her. So, after reading about her in the Guardian I listened to some of her music. Man, I really like what I've heard of her so far; I like watcher her play too. I'm thinking about taking a guitar class.
That's one of the very videos I was watching of her. I often tell myself that I should try to go through every Tiny Desk Concert. I've been aware of it for sometime, but I haven't truly taken advantage of it. Those concerts have some amazing people. @@Jamaicafunk
Good question. I think there were parts of songs where I might have ordinarily listened out for a vocal cue ( in English) that would indicate the next section of the song… But it’s all sounds… you pick up on the sounds regardless of the language. After running through it a few times, I was on top of it and the rest of the group was looking to me for the cues. I’ve been doing it long enough now that I realize it’s instinctive for me. Thanks for the comment ✊🏾
You know…. things are ramping up in a crazy way. All sorts of protests and hate crimes from all sides … since the start of the Israel-Hamas conflict …. stupid people in abundance… unfortunately…. a crazy ol man in the mid west didn’t like his renters … they were Muslim…. He attacked the lady wounded her stabbed /killed her son … he was 6 yrs old. SMH. FBI and Secretary of State warning of possible attacks here. SMH. It’s a little bit scary.
Yeah Gene, In jersey they still pump your gas! New York and down south, you pump your own gas !! Cats in Nashville write charts using the number system. That's interesting that the Chinese use it !! Yeah!!😂 You found some brothers to hit with!! Now you can do your own thing !!😅
I have lived in China for some years now and watch a fair few videos from China vloggers, and it's first time I have seen your channel, YT is doing you no favours.
I read recently that there is only one state or city left where one can not pump one's own gas in the US. I love that drum warmup. I love that hat too Gwiz. How old were you when you started studying music? Different, but you're a pro so I had no doubts that you could handle the situation. I love that driving beat with the female singer. Got my blood pumping and now I'm really ready to get my day going. Nothing like live music. Great job as usual Gwiz. One problem, we need more!!
I was 7 when I started taking piano lessons. The challenge doing gigs in China is figuring out how to remember the titles of Chinese songs, and telling Chinese guitar players to tune their instruments. Very rare to hear 'upbeat' songs here. Most of the show was slow, sentimental ballads. For some reason, they like those.
Well, you know the Portuguese have their Fado and we have our blues; I love the Blues. My city got a new Jamaican restaurant. I was there a couple of days ago, tons of reggae. I miss reggae a lot. The jerk fish was delicious, spicy. Why don't they tune their guitars in your opinion? Isn"t that music 101 for being a musician? I could never tune my guitar. I knew how to do it, but I couldn't do it. I was a substitute teacher from about 2007 to right before Covid. On the rare occasion I'd get to sub for music classes. Man I loved watching and listening to those middle schoolers play their instruments, truly inspiring. @@Jamaicafunk
@@victorbrown3570 The only thing I can figure about tuning is...Nobody told them. I recently sat and observed new students at our uni trying to jam and figure out what to play together. A lot of them were beginners. I didn't want to intimidate or interfere with their activity, so I just sat & watched them make noises and trying to look cool. But it had gotten to the point when it was obvious they don't listen to themselves, The bass player was completely in the wrong key, nobody tuned... It was so terrible that I had to step in. I'm the old guy, so they show respect, and even those a few of them had no idea what I was saying (or who I was...)... They let me give them an impromptu lesson on 'Smoke in the Water'. I'm not a guitarist...I can get around a bass... But even I can play that on Bass, Guitar & Drums. They looked at me like I was Prince or something. I've seen this numerous times with Chinese musicians. The Chinese guitarist who played with us here in the video is OK... But if you listen... He's outta tune! Typical young kid who's more focused on technical 'shredding' and distortion.
Gwiz, you out did yourself. That's the longest response I've ever gotten from you and it's very much appreciated and very interesting. The other day I was thinking that a feature of many Asian cultures and some others I like is their respect for old people. I told you I'll be 70 next year and we know American culture is heavily based on youth. I mentioned jazz guitarist Matteo Mancuso in a comment. Have you seen him play, any thoughts on him? My inability to tune a guitar was so frustrating. I'll put that with not learning Arabic as 2 of my biggest disappointments. Speaking of languages, you said one or some of the African musicians you played with speak Chinese. How well do you think they speak it?I'm trying to picture you doing Smoke on the Water; I"d love to see that. Lastly, I love the concept of jamming. Any language I learn, I want to know how to it translates into that language. What do you think are essential skills for jamming? Sorry, but I love musicians, artistic, creative people in general, and you are one of the very few at your level that I kind of know.@@Jamaicafunk
@@jamesbaluarte3 I didn’t hire them. It’s not my band. I was hired to play just as they were. I wouldn’t hire musicians based on where they’re from anyway. I’d want whoever could play the best.
Gwiz! You’re right in the heart of the Chinese pop/rock scene! Cool video, love the behind-the-scenes footage!!!! ⭐️💫🤩
Pretty cool 😂❤

Yes. I met her in NY a few years ago. Check out her recent Tiny Desk performance on UA-cam.

Pretty cool man. Hey does the fact they’re not singing in English affect you or your playing?

Yea. I’ve seen them use it for their traditional Chinese instruments.
What up Bruh. They still pump at certain stations here in nyc. Right down the blk from Moms They pump it for me. That’s why I go there.
