What a amazing place, it's so safe and people are so nice. Because of Covid, i haven't been back to China for 4y, but we plan yo go back this year. My wife try to convince me to retired in China, why not. It's so social and her father playing majong with his friends and he is teaching me to play it😂 It's something about China that's truly peaceful, hard to explain. You have all those people dancing outside at night, enjoying socially with each other, even if you don't know them. The small food stand at night, the night life for me is something special.
There are many cooperation projects with foreign architectural firms in China, but the general cooperation model is that the foreign architectural firms are only responsible for the design of the architectural plan, while the preliminary design and construction drawing design (including architecture, structure, and equipment) are all done by local Chinese Architectural Design Institute completed. Under the impact of the Internet, it is difficult for pure libraries and bookstores to survive in China. Therefore, libraries and bookstores must be equipped with entertainment, fast food, popular science education, retail and other facilities to increase income. However, the core functions of libraries and bookstores remain exist.
THat's make sense, there are dedicated rooms to study and real books for people who need them. You won't risk to put real books anywhere in the hall or even in some places where they are not reachable. Like in a restaurant or fast food , you won't put real meals in the entrance or on the wall but just some pictures of them. Real foods are in the kitchen and people are sitting inside where there are tables and facilities to consume.
With so many books published in environmentally friendly digital form, libraries are gradually transitioning to museums and coffee shops and this is an example of that gentle transition.
There is another fantastic place in Binhai Tianjin is the 'National Maritime Museum of China', which is a must place to go and very popular among all the children in China. Many people in Beijing will come to the museum during weekends to see the epic museum and buy some gems from the gift shop.
I mean at this stage I'm already numb to all those lies about China, but it is very dangerous for the next generation of western youth. Thank you for revealing the facts behind Anti-China videos, it's always useful & informative. Sometimes, those video can be convincing even for people who don't hate China. Appreciate the effort. It's cool that a library is made into lively spot with great photo op, making it trendy to at least step into the library & eliminating any remaining stigma for book nerds going to the library. I know for sure my dad would love taking tons of photo there!
My new local library, like this one in Tianjin, China, is a more of an architectural monument-piece than a real traditional functioning library. It doesn't look like a library of old from the outside and from the inside where rows of books were front and center. I think it's a trend across the world that municipal buildings, especially ones that attach cultural significance, are designed as a monumental piece to represent the city's modernity, identity and culture. Functional use is often relegated to second place. And since most people get their knowledge online anyway, public libraries are now re-imagined or re-purposed as a mixed-use of culture, creativeness, amenity, and not just a place for pure knowledge-seeking.
I partially agree with your assessment - this particular library is an architectural masterpiece; in terms of reading and research, it's borderline useless. However, I disagree that this phenomenon is common, at least in the west. Most libraries I have visited that contain Instagram-worthy spaces, such as the main library in New York or the Long Room at Trinity College in Dublin, have actual, working libraries located below, away from the tourists. Is that missing from this library?
It's definitely not on the same level as the NY Library on 5th. That's a research library in the most classic sense.. (although they have modernized it with tech over the years)@@davidgmaloof
Visited this place back in 2018. The only thing I can remember of this library now is that the location is a bit far away from the city center. Like others have said, this place is more monumental than functional. In fact, Tianjin has at least three government funded city libraries where I have rent quite some books before. Now that I have switched to e-books and experienced the pandemic I seldom visit that place since I can get almost all information though online database and I am also kind of trying to avoid unnecessary contact with strangers for fear of catching some unknown virus😷
Understandable. Most people will likely use e-books online. But for a nice afternoon out with the kids... I'd recommend it. Anything that can help promote literacy to young people is OK in my book.
I remember enjoying the travel videos that Serpentza and Laowai used to make during their motorcycle tours around China. They were informative and insightful. @jamaicafunk Hello fellow to my New Yorker from Taiwan. Glad to see that you are kicking. Let us take a monent to ask why the source you based part of this video on is being vided my most. Also, most of them are ONLY willing to accept confirmation for their biases from sources they admire or want to emulate. I should also mention that content from those who look like "US" may not be considered "admired" sources even if we bring provable "receipts." If he wants to prove its a real library its very easy go in and show us a list of I dunno, just 10 books that are classics.. death of a salesman, alice in wonderland, Harry potter, catcher in the rye, ulysses, the master and margarita, the bell jar.. add some political ones on top like mein kampf, 1984, or maybe something that people would give them a break for banning but check anyway like lolita etc... If Japan built such a big library you would expect a reviewer to do the same, not film some fake books on a wall and tell us its a real library by showing us 5 real books.
It's almost like Trump derangement syndrome lol.
Thanks for showing us around who have not been able to get to China yet. I do plan to go there to see the country myself. Cheers heaps
My pleasure. Thanks for the comment.

It's pathetic that someone who has never been to the place is spreading lies about it and winning clicks. Pathetic.

You did a good job exposing the 'chinese haters'. Thanks for the amazing library which I wouldn't have known. That Chinese Hater, pls do something useful in life😜

Those people actually know the truth and they just want to make money. Europeans and Americans who have been brainwashed by Western media are very willing to pay these scammers, just like Gordon G. Chang
Very nice video. Great to see both the overall library building and the cultural center location along with more details. Showing the people in the reading rooms and details of the artworks really made your points clear. Well produced and easy to follow along. Thanks!
🙏🏾 I appreciate that.
0:45 I actually told that guy to watch the video with the title:
4K Nikon P1000 Birds in the parks, Shenzhen, China. 尼康 P1000 深圳洪湖公園觀鳥
He did watched the video and replied that those birds flew to Shenzhen from Hong Kong
🤣They can never admit when they'r caught in a lie. Always an excuse. It's called 'I'm white and I say so!'
Are you saying that there is actually someone out there that some random birds have knowledge about politics and land porders and even decide to fly to specific spots just to be recorded by foreigners? 😂
Mate, I love it. "China builds it in REAL life, USA puts it in Movies". How true is that!!!! China's Civic Infrastructures are 100 years ahead of any other country, and the Civic Services are so cheap/free that they do not need much money to live a good comfortable Middle Class life styles.Irrespective of what you say about freedom and human rights, that's the type of government for the people. A government that looks after the well being of its own people and not the opposite as the west meddling and killing of people of other nations. The United States brought bombs to the world, and China brought development and infrastructure to the world.

I don't remember this library. I may have seen a picture of this before. But just to try to discredit it seems kind of desperate. Not everything needs to be designed by local architect. IM Pei was from China. He designed plenty of western structures.
it's western ego.
@@Jamaicafunk In a good way, this got some free press and some people may search for this. The picture I saw was a bookstore named Dujiangyan Zhongshuge in Chengdu, China.
@@Jamaicafunk UA-cam is weird. Some of the posts disappeared. All I posted was the picture I saw was another bookstore in China. I think the name is Dujiangyan Zhongshuge
I personally went to this library in Tianjin a few years ago, this have very large book reading areas, and many multifunction rooms, very well equipped with high tech too.
Thanks for chiming in. 👍🏾
I am glad you did a video about this, that Serptenza guy is really getting annoying with all the misinformation.
I guess one man's lies is another man's truth. The problem (for China) with Serptenza is that he brings credentials of actually living in China for many years to the table, which most pro-China western UA-camrs cannot claim.
Thanks for watching. 🙏
Thanks fortrue reporting about China Tianjin city great library (Binhai) (which is 136.9 km to Beijing).

Very interesting and informative, Gene. Really enjoyed the tour and narrative. I guess it's a twofold being an actual library and an art exhibit. Cool. Stay well, my brother. Peace.😊

China is sure eye opening for me in 2019, been brainwashed for so long in Norway about how bad China is this and that, meet my wife in 2014 and actually travel with her to China for 9 months, been all over China.
👍
Amazing looking library
Thank you 👍
There are many cooperation projects with foreign architectural firms in China, but the general cooperation model is that the foreign architectural firms are only responsible for the design of the architectural plan, while the preliminary design and construction drawing design (including architecture, structure, and equipment) are all done by local Chinese Architectural Design Institute completed. Under the impact of the Internet, it is difficult for pure libraries and bookstores to survive in China. Therefore, libraries and bookstores must be equipped with entertainment, fast food, popular science education, retail and other facilities to increase income. However, the core functions of libraries and bookstores remain exist.

the lying serpent is insane
Honestly the interior of the library building would still look cool without the fake book wallpaper.
I agree.
👍🏻👍🏻
as long as there are a strong anti china and chinese sentiment, those youtubers will forever be flourishing
They aren't going anywhere.

Good work. Thanks for showing the world the real Binhai Library.

like I thought, the main hall was essentially a lobby for the actual library on the sides.
With so many books published in environmentally friendly digital form, libraries are gradually transitioning to museums and coffee shops and this is an example of that gentle transition.
Good point. 👍🏾

There is another fantastic place in Binhai Tianjin is the 'National Maritime Museum of China', which is a must place to go and very popular among all the children in China. Many people in Beijing will come to the museum during weekends to see the epic museum and buy some gems from the gift shop.

Unfortunately a lot of people in a lot of places have gotten away from facts. I wonder if that guy says such things about all the museums / libraries in the West. Gwiz, what is the Chinee comic book culture like? Are they widely read and popular, do adults read them, etc?
I'm hoping to explore the Chinese comic book culture soon... There's a place in Chengdu...

Tianjin.

Anything that promotes and advocates literacy is ok in my book.
It's definitely not on the same level as the NY Library on 5th. That's a research library in the most classic sense.. (although they have modernized it with tech over the years)@@davidgmaloof
I’ve just put Tianjin in my bucket list
🪣🙏🏾

@@idahomike4254 yes. My first 2 years in China were at Web’s in Tianjin, and Taicang. There are a couple of videos from those days on my channel.
@jamaicafunk Hello fellow to my New Yorker from Taiwan. Glad to see that you are kicking. Let us take a monent to ask why the source you based part of this video on is being vided my most. People who follow a certain narrative mainly consume content that confirms their biases. Also, most of them are ONLY willing to accept confirmation for their biases from sources they admire or want to emulate. I should also mention that content from those who look like "US" may not be considered "admired" sources even if we bring provable "receipts." Now, on the other hand, we can't be naive concerning the things we hear and see from third parties or in front of us. There are "lies" on all sides!
What’s up James. Good to see you. Yea, the thing is, it’s easier now to fact check what’s out there than ever regardless of who it’s coming from. The real problem is people are too lazy to do it… or they’re afraid of what they’ll find.
