    Hi,
I have a Pentax Spotmatic and it has been working great for the last year until recently. Everything works fine, but when the advance lever is done winding on the film and cocking the shutter, it does not snap back to its original position. It will return with a little force, but there is definitely some friction somewhere in the mechanism. Any idea what is causing that?
    Thanks :)

I have a new Sigma bayonet lens adapter it’s NOT stripped but tight won’t budge, I’m doing a modification it’s a JIS screw so I bought expensive JIS screwdriver 00 it’s the proper size but it still won’t turn should I still try the heat method even though it’s new? do I try turning right away while hot after using soldering iron or do I wait a minute or two. If anyone else could chime in I would appreciate it

Good video. I have a modern DSLR (Canon 200D) that got hit with sea water 2 years ago. It still works but shutter button and other buttons stick routinely. I was trying to open it up to clean any corrosion and replace any obvious parts that I can manage, but the final screw is stuck, that one goes right though the diopter adjusting button.... I doubt this method would work as everything around it is plastic. Any other recommendations.

Putting some solder cuts down a few minutes to a few seconds.
Also some things to try are putting a solvent in there or impacting the driver to break loose the corrosion.

Do you have any repair guides for the Fujica AX line of cameras? Recently my Fujica AX-3 mirror got stuck in the up position and the shutter screen seemed to be jammed and not all the way in.. any tips?

    Can you fix a bolseyflex?

    • @FixOldCameras
      @FixOldCameras  Рік тому

Sure. But unless this cute camera with its 1954 vibe has some intrinsic value to you it might not be worth fixing.

Hi, it's good to see a video again. I have a suggestion and a question. I have a number of various soldering irons in different wattages. When a screwdiver tip will not hold a tin anymore I file it down so it will fit the slot. It's good for larger screws. Question , many Japanese slotted screws have an exceptionally thin slot. I know there are jis Phillips style screwdrivers but are there any with extra thin blades for these Japanese slotted screws? Thanks I'm still around and still fixing my camera collections.
    regards
    Tom

Hello Thomas; The Japanese screws are JIS screws and the screwdrivers made by Annex in Japan has been helpful for me. Sizes like 0.7 and 1.2mm are ones that I often use on old Mamiya cameras for example.

Hello, is it possible to re gear an slr (Pentax me) for example in order to turn it into a half frame camera? So as you cock the shutter it only advances 1/2 frame?
I would love a smaller slr half frame with great lenses like the ME rather than the pen f since that’s the only other small slr choice. Thanks

Great video and a top tip that was given to me by a wise old engineer many years ago.

Thanks for the tip! Have you tried freezing the screw or hardware that doesn't want to cooperate? I've used CRC Freeze Off on smaller stuff but hadn't thought about using it on the camera equipment. Wonder if that would work on a crusty battery screw, on the bottom of my Spotmatic?

Yes indeed. Excellent tip. An additional step that should get the super stubborn screw to give it up. Heat then cold. Expansion/Contraction.You might also successfully use a chip of dry ice when all other attempts have failed. Depending on your supplier a small block can be obtained and stored in a Styrofoam cup and chipped off as needed. Handle the dry ice with gloves. A corroded battery cap will also react well to applications of vinegar and the heat/cold process.
