If you’re a content creator, you’ll know how much gear there is out there: mics, cameras, recording interfaces, cables…where does it end, and if you’re new to this, where do you start? Sweetwater sent over a sweet all-in-one content creator pack for drummers who want to set up a solid home studio, so we decided to set it up and test it out at Jared’s place.
This kit comes with all the essentials for recording and filming drum videos:
PreSonus StudioLive 32SC mixer (don’t forget to register it online)
sE Electronics V PACK ARENA drum mic package (with clamps)
2x large on-stage mic stands (for overheads)
7x pro co XLRs (30′)
Sennheiser HD 280 headphones
MicroSD card
GoPro HERO7 Black (with grip/arm/tripod)
GoPro smart remote
2x small on-stage mic stands
Rode adapter
Headphone extension cable
Rode wireless GO
In this video, you’ll get a tour of Jared’s home studio - including a 9’x12′ soundproof whisper room - and see how easy it is to start making drum videos.
P.S. The V PACK comes with three tom mics. If you have more than three toms, let the overheads capture the high tom(s) while you mic the lower toms.
P.P.S. To get the best snare sound, the center of the snare needs to be placed exactly between the two overheads so they both pick up the signal at the same time as the snare mic. Use an XLR cable to measure the angle/distance between the snare and each overhead mic to prevent unwanted delay.

jared's about two synths away from never leaving his house again
RIGHT!? :)
Jared’s about two synths away from never leaving his house again
@chessecak fat boy You copied the other comment cause you want to own it. You Knob! Get a new name fat boy!
Connor Campbell you knob😂
@@cheesecakfatboy7229 haha that's funny
I know it seems tempting to have everything ready in one set, because recording drums is not easy. But I urge all you drummers to put this stuff together yourself. Not only will it be cheaper but the sound will be all YOURS and finding the right components for that is part of the process. Trust me.
I've tried recording drums in my bands practice studio with just 3 vocal mics, and man, I've enjoyed every second of it. Sure it was Hell at first, but it was worth it.
@@Slay-Man that's a method from the 70s!
@@Nariyaga And still works like magic!!
I've been slowly building up a home recording set up. Got the last of it on the way, now to set it all up and start tracking drums..a lot to do, even when you know what you're doing! Its a serious commitment. Crippling fear but also stoked! Looking forward to learning!
i LOVE sweetwater, those guys really know how to work with musicians and customers.
Right on dude that is a nice set! now I want one, I love sweet water they have all sorts of cool equipment. And the videos with Nick Dvirgilio I love watching him play drums too. Enjoy the new toys!
I can always wish to have a set up like that. Great to see your studio in this video.
Very nice. The ride even came out pretty nice in the mix.
I love when people who review audio stuff also do it create amazing music.
I'd love to build a room within a room in my basement. But the walls aren't finished yet, the ceiling is exposed, and yeah... It needs a lot of work. But the idea of having that small space would be amazing. Totally soundproofed.
This is awesome Jared ! Thank u.
Wish I had the $$ for this kit.
You can get better for cheaper... just get on amazon, create a wish list, and build your own pack 😀
I dont have a drum kit either
Thew drums or all the other stuff? Buy used. Its not hard to do if you shop and budget wisely.
I built a 10K studio sonically, for less than 4K in about 3 years. Patient budgeting!
When you’ve got money like Jarad you can just sit on a bass drum and not worry about it getting messed up
That doesn't effect the bass drum negatively at all.
Look at the orientation of the drum. He isn't doing any damage to the drum.
he's seating the head. a man of efficiency.
true :’))
This makes no sense
I'll take notes about this clip. Some info about endorsing would be great. Nice studio there.
Your playing sounds great!
great video Jared ... what a great instrument we play! It's put me in the poor house more than once .... fun stuff!!!
The drums sound more real recorded from outside the room with the camera's microphone.
He destroyed the sound in this room
@@jooplin What I find is ironic is that had the room been built properly (and for basically the same cost), there should be almost no sound outside of it. Perhaps the vents are defeating the sound proofing but it sounds a lot louder than it should. But also as you mention, he loaded the interior walls with way too much sound foam. He would have actually been better to go commie cheapo (like I did) and line the walls with a carpet pad which would partially relieve excess reflection but still allow the room to sound relatively natural and live. Or do it the right way and reduce the foam footprint on the wall to half of what it is (like a checkerboard).
should leave the drum room door open with one mic facing into the room and blend that in to taste, with maybe reverb and or distortion
About the excess of foam... When the room is small, you don't want the acoustics of it (when recording drums, it could work well with other instruments)
Thanks Jared!!! This was awesome!!
Congrats dude, greetings from Argentina :D
I was thinking about buying a drum set but didn't know much about it. One day I called sweetwater and ended up talking to a sales rep for about 30 minutes. He was awesome. Their customer support is unmatched.
Great vid as always
looks great. keep up the great work!
'
and very nice work anyway!!! really loved the setup!
Hey Jared, you are a boss of Drumeo. Help all the drummer to play it!!
congratulation your progress
Nice grooving on that funk tune. Very solid.
The pack also comes with a copy of Studio One 4 Artist and Capture for recording your performance audio. I also have that mixer. Been using it since the day they launched - great gear and super reliable.
Is this mixer working as a pre amp and analogue to digital converter?
Thanks for the great video Jared. Can you tell us more about the WhisperRoom- which model and options?
Ah yes, the birth of a new drum studio, where new musical creations will be made and more skill and musical knowledge will be developed. I know I’m late, but I wish you luck.
So dope man!
Amazing!!!
Thanks for the great video. My question is how are you taking all of this and producing the video's. What computer program do you use to sync audio and video. I called Sweetwater and they just sell the gear but thats only half the battle. Thanks.
Great video!
Hi bud awesome video... what programme do you use on your laptop for playing your tracks and recording your drums to them? Cheers 👍🏻
Jared, thanks for the WhisperRoom demo. I am really very surprised at how hard it is to find any demo videos of it with drums inside that isn't shot on a crappy phone camera with a hissing, spitting microphone. WhisperRoom really should clip this bit from your video (with your permission, of course) and put it on their website.
Welcome to the home studio owners club Jared. 👍
looks like birthday and christmas to me .... you must be lucky ... and the cool thing with those soundproof cabin is you can also find silence there ...
Hi Jared - on the Whisper Room did you have a double pane setup or a single pane? Trying to guage noise reduction needs
Definitely not a “whisper room”. A whisper is the sound your bank account makes after buying all this crap though. Maybe more like a death rattle.
Can confirm
Just my 2 cents here... Sometimes when normal people like myself, watch these videos think that buying a package like the one promoted here, is going to sound and look as great as it is shown here but the reality is different. Starting with getting a Gopro camera looking that great you need to have a lot of experience in video editing, also the recording part of it is another beast, mixing and mastering music, is an art.... bottom line, don't get fooled thinking if you buy this package your content is going to look and sound like this one.
Good job Jared!
Great video man. Really appreciate it, but could you briefly explain how you mic your bass drum up with the kit facing the wall like that???... I have a similar studio like yours, with my kit facing the same direction!
This is a great system and I actually missed it when you first shared it for everyone to see. Nice studio also. Does this mean you no longer use the Yamaha ead10 for home recording?
Clean! Now how does all that compare to your EAD 10 for recording (ignoring its special effects features)?
I also have a 7 piece kit and I’m torn between a full mic setup or going minimalist with an EAD10.
great video
This is an awesome video! I am going to look into buying this package! :). If possible, you should make an extensive video on the Digital Mixer that comes in that package on how to use it! :D
I'll let you know when I get it all figured out :)
Hey man great drums and great home drums I do a lot of mixing and recording tips on my channel so if you need any I got them also keep playing drums and keep recording your doing great man and keep the great work up
Beautiful!!!! Great playing as always! What's the name of that backing track?
Awesome pak I'm using large atm pencil overheads and hihats condensers and small pencil atm mic condensers for Tom's I'm using AKG on kicks and two senhiser snare clamp on mic's Pearl the best why I play drums 💪🥁
That whisper room is sick
Very nice video! I want to videotape the drum set in my living room. I want to achieve lighting so that the perimeter of the drum set looks dark and the lighting is focused on the drum set. How can I achieve this? with what lighting specifically? what do you suggest;
Sweetwater is amazing
That gopro 7 looked amazing! Anyone know what the settings were? Keep up the great content drumeo!!!
This may be a stupid question but I’m new to the recording world so. How do you put the drumming into a video after you record?
Dude Iv'e been Playing Drums Sense 1980 Graduated P I T... 89 Playing Pro for many Years , Never needed any of this Stuff ( Although it's Nice ) Most folks can't afford Stuff like this .. Love your Channel ...
Hey, is there or can give more information on the whisper room?
Damn that mixer
Hey Jared, looking at those Whisper Rooms as might be moving house and will lose my soundproof basement room, wanted to ask if that is the double wall enhanced version of their room?
Very cool review... I need a whisper room!
Hopefully you do more recordings in the studio and post those videos. Or even a few covers.
How much was that whisper room? Can you get one that's bigger? 🤔🤔🤔
What a man would do to get a pack like that.:. Dang supper lucky.
i like that shirt Ba dum tss
😂😂😂😂 a great phrase for comedians🤣🤣
Those sE Electronics mics are total kick ass. Just saying for anyone wondering which mics to buy.. :)
Hi Jared, is your WhisperRoom single or double wall? Thanks...
Never knew about measuring from the snare to the overhead compression mics. That's worth the whole video. Thank you!
Seu canal é internacional e tem vários fãs pelo mundo. Poderia já ter disponibilizado legendas para os respectivos países. Abraço e obrigado!🙏🏽🎶👊🏾
@Drumeo Hey. What splash does Jared have over his first and second rack tom?
this dark crisp ride....
Free gear...awesome!!!
Wow I need that ISO Booth how much is that?
I want to have that shirt👌🏻🔥😱
That hh is crispy.
Does anyone know if this is the standard single or enhanced double wall room?
Can we set up drum speaker (amplifier) with NON ELECTRIC drum set?
Uaaauuu!! Very good!!
Hey Jared,
I love the content here
can you please talk about that soundproof room more in detail
I was literally thinking of making one such room for myselves in near future.... would help a lot if you could share some details on this.
Thanks for everything so far though
The room is not really soundproof, it probably wouldn’t be much louder if he just ripped off all of the foam mats.
@@jooplin yeah I get
Perhaps it would be right to call it noise cancelling room or something of that sort.
@@Vaibhav93 I would call it sound cancelling room, because the sound is absolutely dead
My sister is moving into my basement, I don’t want to lose my drums. If I put the drum-set upstairs, were gonna have problems. Any tips? Where can I get a whisper room?
What recording program do you have on the laptop?
Nice!
Can I have the link of the booth builder? Size thanks sounds great 👍
Jared you are such a legend I have been drumming since I was 14 and im now 23. Your vids have always been so amazingly helpful and ur such a great dude! Keep on rockin brother.
In a small room like this, is it recommended to use foam on all walls to avoid the sound getting tangled up?
@Sebastian Carr I decided to go with acoustic panels. I have built 3 of them and plan on building 7 more panels.
I think they will solve my problem and thank you for caring.
Great!
I read the title as "Setting up my home drum drunk (Jared Falk)"
The moon rabbit really likes your setup!
Anyone know the details of his kit in this setup? Likely in one of the comments below but I am not seeing it. I love to know all the drums and symbols. Mainly curiosity. I guess my main question is what is the kick? There seems to be no room for one in there. :-)
Please tell us more about your room
where could I buy that whisper room and how much?
Out here throwing everything like it’s nothing i would be happy with everything he has
What is better a mixer or a interface?
Thx 4 this.
Every drummer has their own unique fingerprint of creativity that's what is so awesome about drums. Every life form and inanimate object vibrate a pulse. So get over it about " making it " and focus on the healing therapeutic aspects of drums and the fun will follow and your fun vibes will attract others seeking the same as you and before you know it your in a band and then a café or bar or family BBQ will know and ask you to perform. Along the way you will meet new people interested and higher up level of enlightenment experience and.... Yes... business....
Business knowledge now is more important than music if you wish to proceed to next level. And that is a plateau for me and others. Now we must figure out how to do business with others who. Might not see the perspective you do and make offers or deals you might not agree with but will expose you to greater opportunities good or bad its your choice.
The 20th century was a lesson for showbiz. So many examples to choose from to guide you.
You can choose to be a Neil or a Buddy or Lars or Sheila or Tito... The Rev.... . So many to choose from learn about their choices
And learn about their faults and successes .
Hey and if you don't want all that fame
Drum shells make great plant potter. Cymbals are great for making prank ufo videos.
I personally love pimping drumsets with l.e.d. glyphs.
And I even grew my own quartz crystals to glue to copper and make my own piezo. ( buying piezo much easier )
And my own electric kit mainly taking the dry sound of the piezo using the signal send it to midi.
But also a creative way is to amplify the dry stale sound of piezo pickup is just tweaking the tone with equalizer....
See what an interest in drums will grow in to?
And Drumeo rules
Please for the love of god do not allow Drumeo to convert in to a scandal after Jared retires
Havent scrolled the comments, but man, anyone discussed Jared's playing on the track? It is very indicative of his prowess as a musician.
Not a mere drummer. You are great at interviews and no slouch on playing.
Jared: I should keep this box
Also jared: *Tosses box*
Can you confirm this is a 9x12 feet room? It looks much smaller. I'm actually on the market for one and don't know what size is right for me.
I get far too sweaty for those headphones 🎧 haha
That whole setup is any Drummersdream
What interface is he using with the pre sonus
I'm curious. When recording in a whisper room, how do you go about placing room microphones?
I didn't put any up and dont' know how you would do it
This room does not sound good. It is build to keep your neighbors friendly :-D Room mics only make sense if you have a useful sounding room.
You could still put a pair of room mics outside the booth seeing as it isn't completely sound proof, put some compression on it and I bet it doesn't sound half bad...
Jareds drumset has its own panic room...
Can you give us the link of your whisperroom model plz
what sound card do Jared use?
Can i buy mixer so i can power up my 7 mic. And then plug it in on an interface to pc. Then just edit the sound on board of the mixer before recording sinceninwont be able to edit it after recording unlike an intertace?. Interface herenin the philippines is way expensive. It costs around 400 US for a behringer 1820 and 520 dollars for a focusrite 18i20n2nd gen. I hope every one notice this
