It’s like having a STD. You love having it but it’s an inconvenience
Hi joel, I thought you had to get rid cos of the cost of insurance?
I can refer you to the Geoff Buys Cars channel. He has a very bad old car addiction, especially Volvos, and I suspect he would love your XC90.
Hi Joel, please don't get rid of it - I bought my £800 5D shortly after watching your series of videos. I found one locally listed on Facebook and I did all the wrong things.... bought it at night, in the rain, but now I've got it and appraised it properly, I'm far from disappointed. It has a few faults, like any 245,000 mile car, but it has MoT until next winter and I'm looking forward to the challenge of sorting the few bits it needs - inspired by you! Thank you!
Don’t you dare get rid. This car is screaming road trip! Take it back to Sweden in the better weather and go glamping with the wife!
I’d love to do this, but need to find a partner to help me get it into a state safe enough for such an adventure!
I'm sure you'd have no shortage of sponsors. You could ask GSF or eBay to supply parts and expertise will surely follow. Why don't you do a giveaway or drive it to Ukraine and donate to a charity there? I feel there's a bigger story yet to unfold which would give you some excellent content. If you need more ideas, I'm happy to come on board.
@@itsjoel Just send it!
Pointless mate honestly
@itsjoel what do you mean by a safe enough state? It's just passed its mot hasn't it?
We all started somewhere when fixing cars, old durable volvo are a good starting point. I think if you got a replacement headliner and fitted it believe you would feel differently. Bring the car to me and I can help.
I hope you keep it. I enjoy the Volvo videos more than any of the others that you do. I think I enjoy the videos so much because you really love the car despite all its shortcomings. This is a love affair I want to go on watching.
Your not alone- loving the green carpet! Think you’d have a reasonable base of viewers
If you keep the restoration going
If you get it sorted mechanically then it will run and run perfectly for a long, long, time. Cosmetics you can do at your leisure. I had a '64 plate one. Bought it 1.5 years old with 46K on the clock. I had it for nearly 6 years and took the mileage to 63k. In that time I had it serviced once a year - and it never needed anything on top of the service and sailed through all MOTs without even an advisory. These things, if you just spend a small amount each year on very basic maintenance, are rock solid. Great family car. Took it camping a few times - 4 people, a massive 8 man tent in the boot, camping gear for a week, a massive Kamei 560L roof box and a towbar mounted bike rack with 3 bikes on it. Even took it to Hockenheim once with all the gear. Just took it all in its stride. Mind you, it drank more diesel than is consumed at Oktoberfest
Hi Joel! I just subscribed to your channel after binge watching every single episode of your Volvo XC90 restoration adventure! Thank you for sharing all that time you spent in the garage with your own repairs!
As an owner of a 2012 Volvo XC90 3.2 FWD Premier Plus model as my daily SUV, I am hoping that you decided to keep that beautiful vehicle for further care. I almost got tears in my eyes when I saw that the (broken) odometer shows over 300K miles, for it gives me hope that my own XC90 with 130K can last just as long with regular care and maintenance.
I also have an appreciation for vehicles but cannot afford to buy any, so it's a pleasure to be able to live vicariously through your channel. Wishing you and your family all the best for 2024!
If i had the cash spare would love to take it off you and finish restoring it, definitely keep it and give it the restoration it deserves
Definitely find somerone who will happily restore it for the channel and they will get all the publicity and hopefully more business from doing so ! A bit like CAR SOS but just NOT on steroids !
Keep it!! This car's lived a long life and deserves to be saved. Doesn't have to be tomorrow just hold onto it and you can fix it up when the time's right.
Keep it sort few of the jobs out joel, love these vids on the xc90
Rear door, child proof lock?
Joel, finish the dam Volvo.its a cracking beast that’s now in your care. You have an obligation to keep it breathing and bringing you both joy and pain😅
Use the Volvo as a training tool to up skill yourself trying the types of jobs that most of us tackle. Roof liner repair if possible with contact adhesive or replace if you can source a replacement. Paint work polishing and scratch repairs etc. If you scew up it doesn’t matter, as long as you learn from it!
Looks great!! So easy to bond with cars!
Great to see the ol girl running! How far away are you from Surrey? I used to own one briefly and loved this car, id be happy to help you out with mintenance and to get back into shape! Wouldnt ask for anything, sure could make some more good content on her!
Had one just the same when the kids were tiny, perfect. Kids sat on the rear bench and playing in the boot. Great days 👍
You should keep it. It has clearly gotten under your skin. Most ABS problems are either the sensors or the pickup rings. Both jobs themselves are easy enough to do. The drieveshafts can be a pig of a job to remove. My front ones were easy so maybe I just got lucky. My XC90 was in 2 wheel drive for a long time until my CEM issue got worse. I ended up having to fit a replacement DEM to my Haldex coupling to have a fully working 4WD to eliminate that problem as part of the CEM diagnosis. The CEM was faulty so I ended up getting it repaired and it has been fine ever since. The error codes should point you in the right direction for both issues. I'd love to help you out but I'm "oop north" in deepest Yorkshire so you will have to make do with my XC90 videos. Don't get your front wheel alignment done until you've finished all your work on the front suspension and steering.
Keep working on it!
Do you still have the red merc? Love those old CLKs
Joel; the stopped ODO along with an ABS light indicate a BCM (Brake Control Module) fault. Remove it from under the ABS pump; airbox will need to come out. 4 torx upside down secure it so have something to catch them. Contact cleaner on the plugs and the contacts on the BCM and refit it. If that doesn't work just send it to Remanx (formerley) BBA Reman in Rochester. Should be no more than 70 GBP for them to fix it.
Still got the Jag ?
I LOVE the carpet! ❤
hi joel. do you no that the front seats can fold down from the back. thers two leavers just above the bolts that hold the seat in place. if you stop the video at 9.19 just above the yellow bit of paper you can see the leaver
You need to use a regular office stapler to fix the headliner (strategically placed staples), until you can get it replaced. Staples are better than glue as when the headliner is replaced, you wont have to remove all the glue you used trying to fix it.
I really dont think you should get rid , even if it's just devoting more time trying to get the electrics working, the navi and other infotainment components, the small left screen on the dashboard etc. because that'll just add value, make the "project" more worthwhile, maybe i'm just being stupid, but I'm thinking of that old car technology.
Then, you can take it back to it's roots, into Sweden somewhere and back, to have one final long and fun drive before you think of selling it on to one of us, or scrapping it.
They won't work, the components are dead and no one makes replacement bits of that tech any more
Interested to see the volvo fully restored, save it from being scrapped Joel!
I know it's an old diesel, but i'm jealous of it, wish I had the money to buy it off you and resurect it, I've always been a Volvo nut and have owned many, very nice cars and a bit different. Need to get that engine fixed, it will transform the car, Good luck.
Are you gonna have a go at changing the headlining?
I think you should continue doing it up :) it’s very tidy considering the mileage! I see a lot worse on the roads every day!
Really enjoy the Volvo vids and what a awesome motor, it definitely could be saved, would be ideal for my wife to use for the Tesco trips, if you decide to sell I would be interested 😀
I have the same Makita inflator. A cable tie can be used to hold in the switch.
Its currently worth buttons. So SORN it. Spend a little every now and again fixing each job that needs doing. Double bonus in that you'll learn a lot (risk free), and get the car sorted.
Joel, happy to help out however I can. Have a few useful tools and a Volvo diagnostic tool….. and a lot of detailing products. Am currently retired (kinda) so am flexible. Have watched many FCP Euro videos, how hard can this be 😮
You clearly love it. It's giving you enough back to love you too. Run it till the next MOT at least
Keep it and restore it further. I have one and will never get rid. Mines 05 d5 absolutely solid
I think he likes the green carpet😂😂😂😂 love the vids Joel
You should also get the Q7 and the X5 to complete the early naughties set... maybe also the Touareg,,,
I have a 24 year old Honda HRV. It's cost a lot to get through the last couple of MOT tests and there's probably more work that needs doing. However, I love it to bits and it's the best car I've ever owned to date. There's an old saying 'Better the devil you know' (which was also a Kylie Minogue song), meaning stick to something if it's still good, basically. At least try and keep it for a while longer, say, until next autumn.
I don't know what year yours is but I have a high km 07 I drive every day and it's been a pretty reliable workhorse really, and pretty cheap to maintain with a mechanic who's happy to just replace a part with a reconditioned part you might supply for example.
Anyway, I like the different interior bits in yours and it would be a shame to get rid of it. But hey, I'm a bit of a hoarder too.
Watching because I've just given mine a pretty good spruce up so liking xc90 stuff now 😆 and if you haven't done in a bit, change the cabin filter...my god the difference.
I have a xc90 executive Joel 2010 fix it and use it you will love it your love it jeff
I've found the xc90 content much more entertaining than the cayenne. Get it detailed , mechanically sorted and back otr. Rear door could be a child lock
I tie a bin liner on my trigger . But if it's a rear tyre I have to jack it up a bit if totally flat on my e46 coupe. Wheel refurb incoming
Loving the intro's! And the experience of getting used cars. I'm deep into a 2013 Mercedes E200 station wagon from Germany now, 4K for car, 2k for getting all fluids, seals, wear&tear parts renewed and DPF filter cleaned. 200€ for a new COC document, 300 for getting some scratches painted. 100 euro for fuel to get the car home and 5in1 engine cleaner additive. So 6.600€ in but everything is freshened up. Same car here starts from 9k to 12k for high milage and going up if you want a less used one. Crossing my fingers for passing our MOT here. Final wish, getting it wrapped in a nice color and some nicer looking wheels with summer tires (michelin pilot sport 4s). But that MOT thingy is scaring the crap out of me 😅😅😅 hope I'll survive the adventure 😅 Look what you made me do! 😜 Carly helps as well and tells me all is good mechanically. Praying it gets through, because people don't believe such a cheap car can be OK. But you have proved it can.
Keep it, restore it and drive to Sweden. I’d rather watch a series on this than the Porsche.
I've done quite alot of work to my XC90, let me know if you need any help fixing yours up
8:16 a severely underrated line. need to remember that one.
I owned an XC90 with DVD player and rear passenger screens, could never get it to work. The stereo is a pain as it's a fibre optic system so very difficult to upgrade
Already a like just for the music :D. Owner of XC90 2008 D5 talking :).
What colour are the carpets? 🙂
If you ever come to sell it Joel please let me know a price, I love your content and this would be a great talking piece on my dealership forcourt
I replaced my headliner for super cheap and replaced the radio with a Legend unit with wireless CarPlay. Made a huge difference.
Are you sure the carpet is green and not UV-faded black?
Hi Joel right hand rear door not opening have you checked the child lock ? Keep up the good work Love the channel
Tbf I'd buy it off you but Joel this is a fantastic opportunity to work with a garage and get the bits sorted. It'll be a lot of content which people love. I'm sure some volvo specialists will let you film along the way.
Run them both so we can compare the cost
I took my Volvo 960( 95 reg )out of my garage to go to Morrisons , started first time since last April,, and I added another 1.5 odd miles to my 18990 odometer ( I really should get out more 😂).
Perhaps someone will buy it for the leather interior. Time to move on. Love your videos, keep them coming. Good luck.
Why is that compressor running for so long?
I love the XC90 but not quite enough to buy it from you Joel, especially as I am in the ULEZ zone. However, when you are finished with the Cayenne, even if it's in a year from now, I'd definitely consider buying that from you. I've wanted one for a while and it would be nice to buy it from my favourite UA-camr.
Also, I have a smart 454 Brabus that my wife hates and I know that she would be much happier in an old Cayenne.
Believe me, if it was low on battery, you'd know about it. The amount of times I had to run down at 2am to disconnect the battery when it got low. Drove me mad.
I've got 2017 Ford C Max it started out as mobility car it's been a good car I got it in December 2020
Having an 11 plate D5 xc90 executive too I am obviously biaised and would love to see this one saved. Such a workhorse of a car. Appreciate financially might make no sense with that mileage 😂
Go ahead and bring it back to formal glory! Can give you some very honest mechanic address in London who can help to fix it injectors and main issues. Maybe try to sort a sponsorship to refurbish the wheels and get new tyres and leave the cosmetics for last.
You could, on your own, start to dismantle the radio and see if you can find any loose connection…
Use and enjoy. 👍👍👍
Get it mechanical sorted, and raffle it to a viewer.
Fix it properly for god sake. Have a go and if you mess it up have another go.
Seen one been watching you, I’ve watched a xc90,
XC90's are bulletproof when running correct. The auto boxes are made of chocolates just like the L322 TD6 auto boxes. More or less 80% of these for sale have knackered gearboxes. Sell it put the cash into cayenne. Looking forward to more content with the porsche 👌
I have a V70 in quite a very good condition but does not have a PACOS system to put the child seat in front and was really looking at XC90's really but cannot really afford to swap now... Being a hoarder myself you made me think about it hehe. I think this takes a lot of time, thing that I don't have. In other circumstances I would take it. Hope somebody would make good use of it.
Hey Joel what colour are the carpets? This video could be turned into a drinking game 😂😂
Yeah keep it,,,,
More fettling = more videos. Then road trips = more videos. Persuade your dad he needs to use it too. Sorted.
Great car but could end up a money-pit for the next owner, if you were to sell. Always worth giving an old car a new lease of life but everything has it's limits. I would sell the parts of the car separately. You'd get good money for the seats. When done, sell the body to a scrap yard and the money made could go towards another car, or to keep the porsche running.
Love cars like this when they are worth nothing so you have no choice but to keeo it and keep spending on it if i had this ide restore it to its former glory somtimes soending the money and time on a car makes you appreciate everything and have a begger experience with it
i know what you mean i got a car just like that and i drive it more than my other cars. its got character.
Joel, sell it and please please buy another rangey 🙏
Could it be a child lock on the back door ????
Battery has either gone flat or disconnected as the clock/time is not displayed on the dash. It is NOT a bag of nails at all. Engine sounds sweet, gearbox is ok. Tracking to sort out the steering. ABS light could be as simple as a sensor or cracked ABS ring. Used spares are plentiful and cheap from breakers, fleece bay, etc. No idea ref the odometer being stuck. Bargain “bangernomic” vehicle and worth keeping, just for your UA-cam content to help pay for stuff. Keep it. 👍🏻
The damaged one from auction
Alex and Taylor bought it from a guy , they have a video with it
Give it away on the channel or make a crazy offroad road trip with the AutoAlex guys
I wish badly I would have kept some of my old cars. Two Porsches, 914 and 944 among them. They are worth tenfold now compared to what I paid for them, damn! But no hope here for the Volvo, sorry 😂
I'd definitely keep the Volvo and finish it off and sell the Porsche
I will come help you with it
I personally think the XC90 is much easier on the eyes then the cayenne
Arrange a road trip, somewhere to really test it! If not, rather than sell it maybe raffle it off for a few quid a ticket.
Is it emotional attachment or a feeling of loss that comes from all that money disappearing. I used to think I cared deeply about some right old bangers but actually I was just sad to wave goodbye to however much money I had poured into them.
I'm sure that headlining has got worse and the green carpet looks like something from an 80s bathroom!
Hello bro, hope you are well. Where’s the Porsche content I need my fix 😂 🤤
Hi I would be interested in buying it
Feel free to send me a message on instagram, or drop me an email: hello@itsjoel.co.uk
The door can have child lock activated. Check the door where it locks into the car 👍
take this car for a detail that interior would come back to life, and get an android unit for the stereo
Sell it before it deteriorates any further. It'll never be a nice example without tons more money spending on it
In the minority here but you should have got rid soon after you got the new MOT!
What happened to the Jag?!
Oh yes, the Jag. Shall I do a “what happened to my Jaguar video” ?
Raffle it?
You need to get a garage on your house and turn this channel into a wrenching one.
For the back door, chek if child lock is on.
better to move it on than be a hoarder of green carpets
My 2p Joel is this - you love it but don't have a use for it, we've all been there. It does have a list of 'little' jobs, some of which may not be so little (or cheap), and some are probably beyond your capabilities. Unless you're going to film yourself working on the car, there's no content for the channel in it either. With a recent MOT it will sell, then you can put the money toward (more) petrol for the Porker.
