I have to change the timing chain and water pump on my 2.2L, although in an EU car and your video is very informative. Although I am a mechanic, I haven't done any timing on this engine, so it should be fun :D

Stumbled on your channel in my recommended list. I got sucked in and watched a bunch of your content. Clearly you have been in the field long enough to know what many of the pattern failures are on vehicles and provide some great tips and tricks. Thanks, subscribed! Just a suggestion: I suspect if you just added the string '2.2 Ecotec' in the title you might end up with more views long term on a video like this since most DIYers looking to do this job may have a different model. So someone searching for this procedure might likely search for "GM 2.2 Ecotec Timing chain".

Got a saturn vue 03 5 speed manual, thanks for the tip, I'll do the same if I'll need to change water pump ❤

About to do the timing chains, guides, tensioners and oil pump on mine but I'm wondering if you have to drain the oil or if only a little gets spilt? I didn't see you mess with it so i guess it's not needed correct?

A little will probably come out, but it’s always good to have fresh clean oil🔧✌️🔧

@@lakesautomotivediagnostics6509 Thanks! yeah I just did the oil last weekend full synthetic too and did not want to have to change it with only about a hundred miles on the new oil .

Do you know if this was the original chain? Was it very loose? I have a Vue with 162k miles on it and debating if I should just go ahead and replace the chain now.

I am not sure if it was the original chain. It would not be a bad idea to go ahead and do it, especially if it is making any rattle noise at all because if it does jump time then you have a bigger problem.

Is it normal to have that much oil there?

What a great job but it's too much to take apart I see why they hate these engines require a lot of work
