Thank you for putting out this video. It was very helpful to me, I'm not doing anything like this since I don't owe a Saturn but, I love doing mechanic work on any car.
Hey hoss, just a big thank you for this and the install videos. I've got an 03 with 480k miles on it. Pumps dropping out coolant by bout half a bottle a day. I was all but ready to send it in to the mechanic for $2.5k of labor charges or more, this saves me big time. I ain't got 3k to my name at the moment, but $100 for a new pump I can definitely do. The gasket is unavailable so i'm gonna have to cut my own, but otherwise this video is exactly what I needed to be confident in doin it myself. Thank you for takin the time to make a video on this. I've done minor stuff to my car but nothing this in depth and knowing there's some experience in video out there is a big relief. Lotta stuff for the 4 banger one but not much out there on these. With any luck, I'll be toasting to your video's help tomorrow evenin.
i have a saturn LS2 i inherited when my grandmother passed and their is a loud knocking/tapping in this area, does that sound like something a water pump would do? if i did decide to do it myself what other things should i replace at the same time because i know with older toyota's when doingf the timing belt we rec a water pump bing that its in the same area
It could be any number of things, tapping or knocking inside the engine could be the valves, outside the engine it could be loose bolts, or any bearing. Kinda need to figure out where the sound is coming from. But yes, it is smart to do both the pump and timing belt at the same time on this engine.
Thank you for actually making a perfect repair video without tell me your whole damn life story and showing me your cat and not having the god awful UA-cam background techo shit. Thank you
It's not my vehicle, I just worked on it a couple of times. That being said I like Saturn, I've personally never had any issues with the ones I have owned. Checking reliability reports the 03 Vue seems good. For the most part the important thing is regular maintenance. With regular maintenance a lot of vehicles last until people get tired of them. In saltier snow areas this includes undercoating and washing. If you don't change the oil regularly, don't change the timing belt when it needs it, don't change the brake fluid, the coolant, or transmission fluid then you hasten the inevitable visit to the crusher. This isn't touching on items that just wear down like starters or alternators. A lot of times those go out and people junk the cars even though the fix would be less than a car payment. But I have very basic car requirements, I want the car to stop when I want it to stop, and start when I want it to start (in that order of importance too.) Running smoothly is the 3rd requirement. Anything else is a plus, but not the end of the world.
@Joon kinloch - I think it is a very reliable car as long as you give it's maintenance. I bought my 2003 Vue V6 AWD with 80,000 miles in it. I had put an average of 12,000 miles per year. It currently has almost 250,000 miles and still runs strong. It's an excellent car in the winter too.
I charged him around $100 for my time, that's including the timing belt and water pump (he purchased those). He's a young guy and the son of a friend, so I wasn't out to make profit. I have another short video on tips on doing the timing belt as there's a couple of really good videos that were done better then I would have done, but they missed some tips I would have pointed out. ua-cam.com/video/PZzFr0xu9Rw/v-deo.html
That's super unfortunate, if the engine doesn't turn then it could be seized. If the timing belt is off it could sound like a fast crank but never fire. Ton of variables for something not starting.
@@Crasoum Try the Motorola Body Control Module. It's in the dash behind the shifter. It can also be a short in the wiring, usually not a big deal. But Saturn decided to remake the old connect with ground system ,only instead of a wiring ( loom) it has stacking electric circuit blocks under the fuse blocks. This makes it a little different. If it cranks and won't start , unhook both termanals of battery and clamp them together ( with no power) for a few minutes ( 5/10/15/20 ???) Sometimes just unhook and reconnect . And let it cool. Then they will fire up . I leave mine run while out. I keep the lock fob on me while shopping and let her run with all the doors locked. This way I'm not cursing it acting a fool a Walmart ( especially when the temp is above 90° F ). Outside temp being higher means a hotter temp , because the air is hotter making fan run longer to cool. It does great in cold weather tho. I just let her idle anyway. Thanks , now making a rattling sound at times , so I'm gonna try the water pump and timing belts first . If not then I'm digging into that fine 5 speed auto aisin trans. Lol
I have a 03 Satern vue my girl was driving home and has had an issue with keeping oil and coolant in it for quite some time now she was driving home and had a complete Loss of power so she pulled over and called me when I checked the coolant tank it was empty so I topped it off I looked under the car and it was a puddle on the ground seconds after I filled it to the fill line

This was awesome and exactly what I needed to help me change my daughter’s water pump. Thanks so so much for your help!
Not a problem glad it helped.

Sure thing, hardest thing was knocking it out, the rest is just going in reverse.
Doing the timing belt on my Saturn couldn't get the plastic housing off. Your video was very helpful. Thanks.
Hey glad to hear it, hope you keep it running a while longer too!
Great video
Do u have a video showing the timing belt change out?

My belt shredded on mine due to my tension pulley needed replaced does that mean I need to replace the water pump as well?
It is very likely the cause of the broken belt, but you would need to check what caused the belt to break.
I found out It was the idle pulley the bearing inside of it that failed.
@@robertaringquist115 my bad I didn't read fully, if it's just the idler all should be good.

I'm too cheap to pay someone to make an into, and not creative enough to come up with anything better then go out and fix something. So here we are.
Is that year model Saturn Vue reliable, in your opinion?

didnt realize its a Mechanical Water Pump did you?
I didn't realize plenty of things but a large majority of water pumps are mechanical. So no I knew that much. Thanks though!
Where are u located
Ohio.
All that and you didn't even get the pu.p out lol very anticlimactic.
Yep, except I did. All the camera was doing at the time was getting in the way of my golf swing.
