    In this video we'll be test driving Divi 5! Yes, I've managed to get my hands on the alpha release for developers only. And what we're about to see is really great.
    I built all my websites within Divi since 2014. That means Divi is one of the oldest Visual Builders around. Now the thing is: the foundation was built on shortcodes. The problem with that is it's not that fast. Skip nine years later and what do we see? We see Elementor we see Croco blocks, we see blocksby =- all these themes are getting ahead of Divi in terms of speed and stability. Divi 5 was already two years in the making, and Elegant Themes was rebuilding the entire foundation of Divi. Let's install it and see how it looks. So for this test I'm going to use this website. I've recreated the entire Tesla website. You can find the tutorial over here. Now let's add in Divi 5 to see how that goes. Go to my dashboard, appearance, themes add a new theme, upload it... Divi 5 Alpha! Install now, let's go! Alright go to Themes page. We have now Divi 4 and Divi 5 Alpha. Let's activate it right now. The first thing we need to check is to go to Divi, Theme Options. Let's go to the Builder Advanced and make sure that the Divi 5 Builder. Is enabled. Alright save changes. First thing to check does my website still work? So the first thing I notice in my website is actually completely the same! We have the animations of the buttons, everything works! It tells me that already Divi 5 is completely backwards compatible with all your websites before! This is really great news!
    Right let's enable the Visual Builder and see what's going on. It's loaded in pretty fast. So what I noticed immediately it is so blazing fast. Just adding in modules over there like this, it just instantly is there. This is so big of a difference than what it was. But you can actually see on the animations for example. When you hover over it, it just takes some time to load it. But with Divi 5 its just, it's there you know. You hover over it and it's there. You click on it, it opens immediately. You know when working with Divi 4, when you start moving modules around it just... it feels a little bit clunky. When you release it it actually takes a couple of seconds. On Divi 5 however, look at this: I grab it it just feels so smooth, so fast. Drag it, drop it, it's there. Drag it, drop it, it's there. Drag it, drop it, it's there. The speed is, its way more stabler than it was in Divi 4. One of the biggest problems I had with Divi is switching to mobile phones. As you can see when I switch to mobile phone from here, it just takes a lot of time. Desktop, mobile phone, desktop, mobile phone. You get the picture. And with Divi 5 however. Desktop, mobile. Desktop, mobile. Desktop, mobile. This is just way better! It shows me that the foundation of Divi is so much improved! This is really great news for Divi and everybody who owns a Divi website. This is Divi 4, and I have a lot of rows inside of this page. It's a big page as you already saw. But when I start moving things around, this is what happens. I go around, go around. And there's just a little bit of... I don't know. Look look at this, its just not, it's not working exactly the way I want it. And when I drop it, it has a little bit of... it's a little bit slower. Let's go to Divi 5. When I drag it. Oh it's I just, I just got it! You know, you pinch it, and you got it! Oh it's so blazingly fast man. It's just, just moving this around is just so much fun now. This Divi 4 and when I have my row it just, it just doesn't feel, like it...

      @WPressDoctor  5 місяців тому +1

      Hi there! Thanks for the good question. So as from what I have tested, a Divi 4 created website turns into a Divi 5 with just a simple update. Everything works fine in the new version, no problems seen yet! So you don’t have to wait, you can just buy the lifetime license right now while the price is still this. I don’t know if they will change the prices in the future… 😀

      @@WPressDoctor You certainly have a good point there. What slowly became an obstacle for me is that the visual builder sometimes works very slowly, I used more and more plugins because basic functions in Divi are not present or fall short, take the contact form as an example. And no, I'm certainly not going to see what's best every year, I've been working with Divi for almost 6 years now.

    • @WPressDoctor
      @WPressDoctor  11 місяців тому

      Hi Jelle! It totally depends on what’s in that child theme. If you have all kinds of php files, then yes, the child theme needs to be updated. The biggest change from Divi 4 is to Divi 5. To go from 5 to 6 it won’t be necessary I think.

      @@WPressDoctor Hello! Well, I only use it to add 1 function in my functions.php and it is a function to allow scaling to improve accessibility. Also what I hope is that in DIVI5 there are aria labels coming? Hi Matt,
    Two questions.
    Do shortcodes added by third parties still work. I use Toolset and like to add discreet templates that you can make with it to Divi layouts. This is done with shortcodes.
    In your video, at about 2 minutes there is an open module and in the top right corner of it there is a desktop icon with a disclosure triangle. I am guessing that it is some sort of viewport switcher. Can you reveal what this is?

    • @WPressDoctor

      I’m sure shortcodes still work as a WordPress website without shortcodes is like… well not Wordpress 😂

    Looks amazing. Do you think it will also fix the big issue for the woocommerce product filters in theme builder? Because for years has been a big problem for divi. It seems no normal plugin is working for product filter when you create a shop page with the page builder.

      Hi Martin! Yes it’s going to be great! WooCommerce product filters are indeed a issue with Divi. I did use with succes “Search and filter Pro” which also works with custom fields, that one did it for me. But as the foundation / API is being build again for Divi 5, yes the integrations will be way better, solid and easier for 3rd party developers. So I’m positive new filters will find its way 👍🏻😀

    • @vaughanprint
      @vaughanprint Рік тому +1

      Hi Doug,
      You can very easily implement both flex and grid on Divi sections, rows and columns to effect whatever inner element sits in these. You do this by using the custom css panels under the advanced pane of sections, rows, columns and modules. You just need to look up the appropriate css on CSS Tricks for reference… But I guess having UI in Divi will ultimately make this faster to do and more efficient.

      My understanding is that for structure it uses comment tags, the same as what's used in the new block editor.
      This could open up opportunities to see some interoperability between Divi and the block editor.
      I had hoped that the Gutenberg project would be built on a foundation that offered some mechanism for third party builders to override its basic blocks, adding their own features, bells and whistles and own UI. They didn't and seen to have gone for the its all blocks or nothing approach and taking a critical swipe at the builders that stood in for its tardiness at becoming the long awaited update to Wordpress. The block editor and FSE does a poor job at responsiveness wit third party solution doing an admirable attempt to fill the gap but just adding more confusion to the block editor experience. Shame really, but there you have it.
      The upshot at this is that Elegant Themes really needs to crack this or many of us will have to start looking at other solutions which may just be block editor based. That said I wouldn't run away from Divi just yet. If it takes a year or two to transition one can still build decent sites with it.

    Q1 2024 they release the alpha version, Q2 the beta and Q3 Divi 5 still with bugs and no new stuff, Q1 2025 Divi 5 without bugs. Fom then on any basic novelties will sell as addon.

      PS: Divi 5 should already be ready, but they have to wait for dozens of addon developers, where most of the revenue should come from.

      Haha well actually it’s not ready, I’m following every new build, and it has nothing to do with the 3rd party devs…

    So Divi 5 is what Divi 4 was supposed to be according to ET?.... No new things because EVERYTHING is now another "add-on" / "plugin" to be bought from the community.

    • @WPressDoctor
      @WPressDoctor  Рік тому

      Hi Jose! Thank you for your concern. Well, the new features will be released with Divi 6. So yeah, this update is all about rewrite the foundation.
      I sometimes need extensions for Divi, but for 9 out 10 websites I don’t need them because Divi has everything straight out the box. With CSS and custom code you can do basically everything.
      What are some add-ons that you need for your websites?

    • @JoeGregChannel
      @JoeGregChannel Рік тому

      @@WPressDoctor Divi Supreme Modules is an example.. These are things that divi should have but we KNOW for sure it will never happen because they created all this fuzz about the "community" marketplace instead of actually including these features themselves. So now every time you want something that Divi doesn't include you gotta pay for it, add more plugins/add-ons which takes more resources, etc etc.. It's such a bad idea.
      Using divi right now feels like buying a modern videogame, you get something that is not finished and then you have to pay for the "DLCs" in order to get "new" things. It just sucks.
