Boeing Employee Reveals Manufacturer Has Taken Shortcuts

- A number of articles have appeared in the mainstream media citing Boeing whistleblowers, revealing how the planemaker’s practices are not meeting expectations. However, in almost all cases, the whistleblower is not identified, so the story's integrity is hard to establish. Recently, another such report was carried by TV station KIRO 7, quoting an unidentified Boeing employee sharing his concerns over non-compliance issues at the Everett manufacturing facility.

Rotten MBA culture that is in almost every corporation in America. Forget quality, make the numbers look good.
Bingo.
line must go up. no matter the cost. seems to be the mentality. worked in factories in other industries in the US and the same is true there too
Growth, growth, growth, growth, growth, growth
I expect that more Boeing management effort will be put into identifying the whistle-blower!
Oh yeah
I expect nothing from management in general except incompetence, bullying, corruption, and poor understanding of the work they are supposed to "manage".
100% person will be fired and sued into oblivion

JUST SHIP IT SOUNDS LIKE BOEING.
Unfortunately it's heard in many manufacturing plants.

When aviation professionals are not in-charge at top management positions; then everything will be based on cost and time only, safety comes at later stages if cost and time allow it.
Thanks to Jack Welch and the GE management philosophy.
There's a saying in Spanish, "Going cheap will cost more at the end!"
i think the executive saying would be "when the end comes i'll have collected my bonuses and moved on to another high paying job pointing to all the bonus worthy efficiencies i implemented on my resume" the cycle of life.... 😕
"More in the end" in this case translates to loss of lifes.

Seems this new work culture is now engrained in Boeing and its manufacturing plants.
It will take years for it to return to the great company it once was.
Thats the problem, once that once famous rule of safety first disappears, Boeing wont come back into the Airliner business, because no Airline can take the risk. So it seems Comac only has to step forward.
well years is like not worth putting the effort in

Let's start at the beginning. Which parts do Boeing routinely process at Everett and then ship to Renton?
My thoughts exactly!
Nah, that's googleable.
Mostly interior components, but there may be engine build-up completed in Everett these days.
I would rather believe the employee than any mealy mouthed response from the head shed.
The whole point of whistleblowers is that they are anonymous
Management is beholden to Shareholders and profit maximization. The culture at Boeing must change and this starts at the top.
True. But that will not happen.
Yup. The seven figure salary (plus bonus), the top of the range car, the yacht, and the second home in the Hamptons ALL depend on keeping the shareholders happy. So they don't vote you out at the next AGM. So naturally the culture at the top will be 'profit at all costs'.

It's McDonnell Douglas all over again !! 😮 What's disturbing, is that Boeing merged with these merchants of death. ☠️ The lessons from the DC-10 and it's infamous life, seemed to have been forgotten. How long will it be before another horrendous, mind numbing crash happens ? I have all but abandoned flying. It is no longer the fun, adventurous experience that it was in the 70's and 80's. I'm in no mood at my age, to play Russian Roulette. Gambling is not my thing and never has been.
Boeing didn't really merge with McDonnell Douglas, Boeing management got thrown out and GE's management was installed at the bequest of Wall Street. Wall Street wanted Jack Welch's management style to drive up market value. And that's the story of Corporate America in the 21st century.
That Alaska aircraft was just some 6,000 feet from being that 'mind numbing crash'. Luckily for the passengers it was landed safely but sadly this allowed Boeing to peddle soft words again and 'get away' with the awful job they are doing.
Management has got fat golden parachutes regardless of how incredibly bad they perform…..
Or how many folks they get killed with half baked airplanes…..
All of this poor leadership is the result of being merging with Mcdonnall Douglass.
Yeah profit before saftey
i'm sure one would specifically say that...but when profit is number one...everything else follows 😀
thats how many times I've seen this
"Boening employees can anonymously report concerns through our Speak Up portal..."
ANY company reporting or tip line is NOT anonymous. They're designed to limit risk to the company.
This is the story of every large company these days.
I don’t know if it’s true, but my guess is that the mgmt hierarchy is very deep and top level managers have no idea about the real production problems.
Shortcut has proven to be the longest distance to quality goal.
They STILL have issues after the last 4 or so years?!?! There’s no longer any hope for their prospects.
Nearly all companies take shortcuts. Boeing just got caught. They need to axe the bean counters and let engineers run the company again.
Boeing needs to remember that they are the company that created the 747 and the 757.
0:21 What's the reason for the fuse colour? Material/coating? Like it.
Eié Dothé belivé itt to bé Antié Rustoleum protection
So, what is their union doing about all this shoddy quality and supposed management insisting on ignoring obvious safety concerns?
Unions are also able to succumb to this kind of cultural rot and indifference.
Whats sad is im more sure boeing is focusing their effort in finding this individual than actually addressing the alleged issues.
Not surprised. The Boeing corporate culture is by all accounts pretty broken.
Not surprised. Boeing T-7 trainer jet is 4 years late & suffering from quality issues with the air frame! Air Force needs 351 T-7s by 2030. Boeing won’t meet that metric!
Yeah that means they will find whistleblower and fire him if not outright sue him. But still i think monopoly and financial gains led to such culture
Bean counters run the company, not engineers. Most companies are like this now.
Good old Six Sigma business practices. Profit at all costs!
The company has been run by accountants and lawyers, for years.
Shareholders first at Boeing. Safety last. The profit hunters.
The more planes that roll off the line, the bigger the CEO's bonus check gets
Exactly!!
It's that simple: If it's Boeing, I'm not going 😮
Dont think I will fly in the near future….back to the road trips.
Hell Boeing himself is probably punching his way out of the grave rn
None of this would happen if Boeing didn't acquire MD, they had bad ethics, now they are doing the same in Boeing.
Sounds like fake story to me. For example: Aren't there FAA inspectors at the plant? Isn't the employee unionized?
Provide evidence for your allegations
This is not Boeing's innate culture. It's a diehard legacy of McDonnell Douglas.
Doesn’t matter. It’s still the nameplate that goes on. Customers don’t care about the internal childishness.
"This is not Boeing's innate culture. It's a diehard legacy of McDonnell Douglas."
Sadly Boeing is working to the MD culture now.

it's not only boeing and the aviation industry. things are getting more and more sucky almost everywhere.
Typical American corporate business culture.
They always think more about the shareholders than the quality of the product they are making.
Reports of problems within Boeing ( if verified) are of course disturbing. The FAA audit of Boeings manufacturing is underway and should reveal specifics about the quality problems.
"fears retribution"
Well DUH !
Boeing is going to require third party oversight that answers to the airlines, this seems the only way to ensure Boeing delivers the product it claims it wants to provide.
Defund Boeing Asap
No, remove their incompetent/corrupt management and put people who value quality and safe engineering practices back in place.
No surprise there...
This is very disturbing!
Not surprised at all..
what's happening at boeing is disgraceful! when i grew up there in the 70's, the workers were proud of their quality. that's clearly all gone.
Not even surprised to hear all this
After watching the documentary “Boeing 787 Broken Dreams” almost 10 years ago, it just shows how nothing has changed at Boeing. 🤦♂️
Compliance costs money which shareholders don’t like. Boeing being bought by MD with Boeing’s money really pushed it into shareholders above all else. But it started in the 80s based on folks I know who worked there
Many employees have blown the whistle on Boeing. They should be privatised.
