    Can you guys please do a top gear style challenge were you get a set budget to make a plane then once you make it in the style of your choice you are then told the challenges I think it would be a fun few episodes

    • @TakeshiM
      @TakeshiM 8 років тому +8

      +Ben Nicolson like the over 100mph/ under $100 video? or a face-off between the Storch, Bushwhacker, and some other similar plane?

    • @bennicolson9370
      @bennicolson9370 8 років тому +3

      +Takeshi M yeah exactly like the 100-100 challenge but like a 4 man competition and actually show shots of the build and tell us the components they used

    The red plane on the calm water was so satisfying for some reason.

    Wonderful! A good life is full of BOTH failures and successes. As Bum Phillips said, " We all fail, but you are not a failure until you blame someone else." Peter & others, you are successes because you kept trying.

    • @PeterSripol
      @PeterSripol 8 років тому

      It was all Stephan's fault.. He threw it...
      Just kidding! Luckily it's just some foam and some soaked lipos! Plus I really wanted all of the failures to be shown, it's not as much fun when someone gets something and it doesn't perform as advertised or sorta similar!

    Can't wait to build this one. First thing I'm going to experiment with is changing the skis on the wing tips to some sort of v-hull or more pontoon-like or fuselage-like. And, thanks to the foam board building skills I've learned as a faithful "Flitetest" viewer, I Should have zero troubles!

    I like the silhouette of this plane. I love the mid-mounted horizontal stab. I think I am going to build this one, but not as a sea plane. I will delete the wing floats and shape the bottom so that it does not have the step. I will run it as a twin EDF, though I haven't picked where: either under the wing or on the fuse in front of the tail. Suggestions?

    do a rescue quad with a hook to pull planes out of trees. give the quad an emergency hook release in case the hook anchors the quad to the tree. maybe connect 2 quads together in a Y configuration to better maneuver the hook. :)

    • @idontwantachannelimjustcom7745
      @idontwantachannelimjustcom7745 8 років тому

      +Paul Hitchings
      I remember one set in a castle in the UK. guy lost model and had to come back like a week later with someone else. their hook didn't have a release. so if the second model hooked the first but couldn't lift it, they would both get lost.

    Life vests, brothers. Don't mess with water. And brothers, I would be wearing a neckstrap around water like that. Wet hands, slippery fingers, sunk transmitter. Catspaws on the water - I was waiting for Stefan to get flipped when that ugly black catspaw approached the boat and airplane.
    Really really cool planes, guys - looking forward to trying this in the Hudson River. Thanks for the share.

    Why not just extend the rudder so that it dips into the water?

    • @BlockCylinder
      @BlockCylinder 8 років тому +1

      +Brian Willis Not sure whether that's a serious question but I think the drag of a rudder in the water might prevent the plane from taking off.

    • @GunnerRA155
      @GunnerRA155 8 років тому +5

      +BlockCylinder It was serious, but I didn't think of that - maybe just 10mm of rudder in the water to aid turning? Shouldn't create too much drag?

    • @stonesie81
      @stonesie81 8 років тому +5

      +Brian Willis I remember a 'tip' in RCM&E way back in the late 1990's where someone simply glued a clear plastic ruler to the rudder of a float plane to make it turn on the water, apparently it worked brilliantly.

    • @shilohstore6086
      @shilohstore6086 5 років тому

      The problem he had wasn't turning it was the fact that he wasn't using power to get airflow over the rudder I think an extended rudder in the water still wouldn't have made the plane turn if there's no forward movement but it would definitely make it turn better while you were going forward.

    Some one needs to build a quad-copter that can recover tree'd foam planes. I'm thinking a Kevlar pole with a detachable metal harpoon on the front and a fishing braid tether connecting the harpoon to the quad-copter.

    • @fullthrottlerc8324
      @fullthrottlerc8324 8 років тому +1

      scott firman Take a 6 inch length of broom handle and screw it to a piece of flat board so that the handle is at 90 degrees to the board. Now do the same with a second piece of identical broom handle and space them 8 inches apart. Now wind the line onto the handles in a figure of eight pattern. Point the finished board in the direction of the downed craft, attach end of line to the bolt and fire. This keeps the line tightly wound and its nice and quick when winding the line back in.

    • @Buck0338
      @Buck0338 8 років тому +1

      I used a long bow with fishing line on a casting reel to retrieve my plane about 75 ft. up in a tree. I expected the plane to be a gonner and just wanted to retrieve the electronics & servos but the plane was repairable. You're right about pre coiling the line, that is the secret to success.
