Homelessness is a global issue. I'm Australian and in Sydney the number of people living on the streets rises annually. The cost of accomodation in Australian cities is horrendous. Meanwhile people are driving around in $100,000 cars and buying million dollar properties. All over the Asia Pacific the cities are teeming with homeless people. I cannot think of a worse fate. It's disgusting. A place to live is a basic human right. Thanks to DW for bringing this to the attention of the world.
What happened to being such a massive area with such low population too ?

my heart goes to all the homeless in Berlin and rest of the world.
Countries need to appreciate the availability of them as human resource rather than pushing them back.
According to Google, only 15% of clothes in America are donated to Charity and 85% are thrown in the trash and end up in landfills. It is sad to think these poor people in Africa would be forced to buy new clothes when there are so many used ones available that are still good to wear. I have purchased lots of used clothes for myself & children at yard sales and thrift shops, and then if they are still good, I donate them again.
Actually most of the used clothes sent to africa also end up in landfills, these second hand garbage are polluting African countries. Do you know that they are not allowed to see what they buy, they buy bundles of useless clothing and most of them end up in landfills. I think America should just keep their garbage and find better ways to process it themselves.
It's about economy. The government is willing to protect their local industry than shop that get clothes for almost free of charge but selling for a bit higher which killing the industry. It's not as easy as saying it just competion bro.
If you keep giving such basic items to poor subsaharian nations they will never feel the need to be economically productive. I mean, industrialization, be in Western Europe, USA or Latin America (all of which happened pretty much in different centuries) started with textiles. Of course I'm being reductive here, but we're looking at small scenarios riddled eternally by wars that, of course, need resources to happen, where do all these resources come from? An interconnected system that doesn't sustain itself is by logic not limited to what was previously considered. I would personally say that colonialism isn't something that ended and now Africans are on it's remnants. How miserable and inferior a human who can't adapt, thankfully I never even heard about one, so the answer at least must be a lot more here than there.
My heart goes to the people who like to drink beer but cannot afford it.
What can be done with someone who gives up and chooses to live on the streets? BTW- Nothing at all wrong with wearing used clothes! I buy nearly all my clothes, household linens, furniture, housewares at used shops. The only exceptions are undergarments and mattresses for health reasons.
you miss the points of the video, of course everyone prefer cheap used clothes, thats why it's killing the local clothing business.
@@theshuriken Not really, if you can't afford new clothes you buy used. People that afford new clothes won't buy used. It's not taking away their business because used buyers could never afford new. The end!

@@giuseppenero110 It's actually quite common in America (at least in my state). It's easy to walk in to a Good Will or used shop and find used underwear. But I personally stay away from buying it.
Actually Eastern Europe is rising. Real estate in Hungary is the cheapest in the EU. Unemployment rate is 3.8% only. There are tons of jobs, not enough hands to work. 96% of Hungarians live in their own home. Only 4% lives in rental. They are not rich but life is stady, most of them has a home, a car, job...

All the jobless Hungarians went to Germany and the UK for jobs, and for better paying jobs, and for a better life. Eventually, if your family lives somewhere long enough, everyone will own a house. If you have millions of poor jobless homeless immigrants constantly coming into your country, there will be many who don't own a house.

I admire the woman typist in India who is dedicated to her work. (9:40) And everyone who has not abandoned the old typewriters. Some old-fashioned dignity goes a long way.
She might even type for people who can't read and write. Google says "According to the latest report published by UNESCO, there are 287 million illiterate adults in India-37 percent of the illiterate population in the entire world." So many of these people who must have some form completed, must pay someone like this woman to read or write for them.

Is the first homeless guy living on the streets of Berlin in Germany Legally or is he an Illegal immigrant?
It seems he made a choice of living on the streets of Berlin rather than "continue to do bad things" if he moved back to Poland. That's his choice, he can go back to Poland and choose not to continue doing those bad things. He probably went to Germany knowing he would get more free stuff and entitlements and not have to work for a living.
Sorry, but I feel no sympathy for people like that.
Legal migrant, Poland and Germany are both part of the EU and their citizens can move freely within all countries, this guy was probably homeless in Poland too
yeah He can't run away from the problem when the problem lies within itself. I was unaware that the EU countries allowed moving residence/citizenship freely between borders, thanks. No wonder why countries are wanting to leave the EU. Welfare entitlements support the kind of lifestyle that homeless guy is exploiting..

No, both Poland and Germany are part of the Schengen agreement inside de EU, so you can chose freely reisdence in any part of the European Unión, there are not even border controls.

Theoretically EU citizens from other countries are supposed to go back to your home country when you didn't find a job within 3 month. It is just that nobody cares whether you are there, sleeping rough or not. You are invisible.

there is a great example from the working lady in India for the polish young "boy" in Berlin, he´s not a man, but he needs to learn how to WORK as one.
Why is it that big cities(or some of the most famous ones) of different countries always have a huge problem of homelessness, wealth gap and poverty.
I mean for ex: Germany has Berlin, France has Paris, US has LA and NY, I dont know about UK and London. But I have always noticed that suburbs and rural Areas or countryside are really beautiful compared to big cities, why is it like that?

Berlin is the perfect example of everything that has been going wrong in this country. Panel constructions, Trash, graffiti and dog shit everywhere, radical left occupying abandoned buildings, politicians working against the police, people demonstrating 24/7 rather than working, Arabic clans fighting in the streets.
The city itself is also very poor compared to other major German cities. Germany’s whole GDP would be 4% higher without Berlin. I’m really ashamed of our capital at its current state and the majority of Germans are too.
I heard their are a lot of Americans homeless in Germany. A friend of mine was homeless for years in Frankfurt.
Idk. Never came across one. Mostly east Europeans. You can hear them speak in polish and whatnot.

@@user-jj6bg9em4f Many people that aren't on Hartz IV don't understand how hard it is to get and to handle the situation. Bureaucracy in Germany is completely frustrating and you need to sent them thousand of documents and fill out things that no normal person understands. My mother lived from Hartz IV all her life. The employee center forgot (they actually said they lost it later)to sent us one of the documents and so my mother and us went up having no healthcare for 2 years. We found out about it, after we got a bill on which was written that we need to pay the last doctor meetings.
Others that were on Hartz IV and had problem with documents also got thrown out of their flats, because the employee center just started not paying rent anymore without telling anyone.
My grandmother had an old timy typewriter like those and she tried to teach me but i didn't pick it up.

but Berlin has just 3.6 million inhabitants. Additionally there are 3000 kids and teenagers living on the streets of Berlin underaged
Went to Germany for a school trip, was eating this extra large hamburger and some beggars came up i offered them food but they wanted cigarettes and money, later i saw them counting like 20 cigarettes lol
Same thing in N.YC. they say they are hungry but if you offer them food they don't want it. That's at 8:30 a.m. Then you go to lunch and they are around the corner counting a stack of bills by 12:30 p.m.
In germany u can go to a "Tafel" a place where homeless and poor people can get money and shelter
@1:33 All respect & love to people in need I also see they have a pet by their side such as a dog or a cat that accompanies them for that is a true friend who stays by your side wether you be rich or poor. Be nice to animals

Homelessness is a product of capitalism. There have to be strong safety nets because the essences of capitalistic spending and choices are emotions and likes. People rarely consider utility when they spend. That is the primary reason why many professional athletes make more money than soldiers and most doctors. Because markets are not efficient everyone will not get what they need in capitalism.

well look at Los Angeles, very rich and yet 50k homeless people.
LA and the US is a lot different than Berlin and Germany. The US has a far greater homelessness issue and LA and the west coast is where many try to move to. There isn't much of a safety net to protect people from homelessness in most US states (CA is one of the better ones but they can't handle all of the homeless that move there). LA isn't all rich people. Most people are middle class or poor, a smaller percent are wealthy. Berlin seems to attract a lot of homeless in Germany due to the reputation of the local government and police being more lenient there as well as the local population being more sympathetic to homeless people. However, Germany offers more assistance to protect citizens but as mentioned elsewhere, they can't just arrive from another country and expect to get that assistance, which is why they mentioned a lot of homeless were from Eastern Europe (not German citizens).

from 85 to 1990 i lived in germany im from manchester .i lived in neuronburg munich berlin garmishparten kirchen flensburgh .kempton fusson . i changed my job every 3 months in hotels or driving ,now its finished i am at the bottom of the pile ,no work for me .and beer is dead cheap if you buy a craite 24 beers 10 euros if you take the emptys back you get 4 euros .cuurywurst and chips 3 euros .with bread .

when you watch this, dont think that homeless people are dominating the city. you find work here if u want. you find a shared flat if you want. its just not like you get everything for free. neither do germans. most people who live in the streets are either not willing to adept to what it takes or are addicted to drugs, mostly alcohol.

NO empathy for these 'victims'! Eastern Europe isn't a bed of roses but a hard working, dedicated man can make a living quite comfortably (source: me - bulgarian who's lived in Germany 10 years not on the streets then came back home).
At least they get help a little bit !

Well, of course it's easy to be homeless than work for 10-14 hours. Here in Russia some "homeless" people earn about 50-70€ in 4-5 hours just sitting near the mall in the city center and begging for a coin.
That's why I never donate to charity organizations in Germany.

Poor people, there should be homes for everybody in all the world not just for homeless people, but for people for escape from their family or any person with mental problems that they have to live with because don't have other place to go, and i think that's one of the reasons that persons killed or did phisical abuse and got to prison, the world is just wrong and the governments don't help to be solved, all the countries needs houses for people and works, to say just one but ABSOLUTELY with that, most of the problems (problems that can be solved) in the world, would be solved
I have come accros many Eastern Europeans. Most of them would rather have 12 men share a room even if they all have jobs. They simply don't know any better.

I have never met any Eastern European man who wasn't an alcoholic. Stop blaming Germany. I am black African and I did survive in Germany despite overt and covert racism. If you are white no matter which country of origin you can always survive in Germany over say a black man with a higher qualification. Please don't blame Germany. I was there for over 15 years.

I would put Hungary at the same quality of life as Switzerland, definitely above of Ireland or Spain. Probably above London too.

so many charitable institutions and soup kitchens in berlin to assist and enable me to live a life of aimlessness......i dont understand why dont these homeless people have at least a modicum of self respect to live a orderly and clean lives?i mean look at all that filth and garbage surrounding them.....why cant they at least be like the homeless in japan?set up a nice proper tent and sleeping bags,clean the area regularly and dont leave ur garbage all around and no one will bother you......

I used to think the way you think until a friend of mine lost half of her family members to a drunk driver that drove her car in the wrong side, and the drunk woman is alive and got bailed out of jail by her rich dad. Drunk and stoned people are the lowest of the low, worse than rabid animals.

What the purpose of this documentary?
Every country has citizens who need economic help. That's budgeted into the national fiscal plan. In recent years large numbers of immigrants have been added to the Welfare rolls. Muslims birth rates are much higher than citizen birth rates. Demands on resources for the immigrant population will soar above those of citizens. What then?
How could heartless Germans leave these European people starving? Why are they not getting financial aid or food stamps?
