Great video, thank you! Super-clear instructions. Clarification point: you described how there are 2 types of switch available: one with wires and one without. I thought you meant the switch unit is the same but one comes with a clip-on wire and one doesn't. But I now understand that the one with the wire, has the wire molded on to the switch. Lesson for me to pop the old one off before buying a replacement.
Helpful mention of forscan - I have ordered one off Amazon for diagnosis now after buying a replacement latch and UCU which did not fix my issue. Wish I had invested in diagnostics first as it would probably saved money and time.
great video, I have an identical problem with an 18 Focus, think I might try and fix it myself and save the £120 diagnostic fee that the Ford dealership wanted to charge just to find the fault! even though I have a warranty.
I have the same issue 2011 c-max plus the boot opens randomly on its own while driving or stationary. I’m hoping this will be a quick fix. Thankyou pal
Thanks for the ideas! My S-Max 2010 got its boot stuck closed and locked. All other doors open normally. Tried to jiggle the lock from inside and nothing happened. All fuses ok under glove compartment and rear fuse-box also ok. Had to strip the whole back panels of the boot to unscrew the lock from the boot door and only then I could lift the boot, the lock still fixed on the locking loop. Checked the wiring to the lock, all looked good. Also had a blown rear left boot door bulb that I could replace after getting the door open. VOILA!! After this the lock started working again so I guess changing the blown bulb fixed the issue, no idea how it is possible...
I was pretty sure that the boot switch was ok because you could hear a clicking in the fuse-box under glove compartment when pressing the boot open switch.
S Max’s suffer with broken wiring where they go from the body to the tailgate, I’d strip it back and make sure that there are no exposed wires touching another as the rear lights are ran on a separate circuit but the inner lights are bunched in the same loom(from memory anyway)
Helpful for me with a mondeo mk3 2004 tailgate latch problem too. although my stitch is working I think. does the tailgate not have a mechanical key tucked up near the switch for emergency use like my Mondeo? I didn't know it was there as I never needed it until the latch failed electrically. Worth a look if you are sctarching your head on how to get in the boot.
Hi Gary here grate video very interesting and informative keep them coming, I have a Ford C Max titanium on a 66 plate, would you please tell me what the part number is as I have the same problem as you and don't know how to find it on the video you made. Thank you so much for your help
If you have a Ford S Max check the nearside wiring going down the boot into the car in that black sleeve on the top... mine was cut from opening and closing over time
Hello man you ar the best thank you I searched about 3 week 1 video how to repair him and i found you big thanks....... tell my plss you obd .... you use and what version and if I find on Amazon ???? Thanks for your answer
No problem at all and glad to help. I use an Autel MK808 but if it’s just a Ford you want to use it on the Forscan and a ELM327 cable is a much cheaper option
This is the exact issue I have with my smax mk1 works with the keyfob but not the boot button. I have checked the wiring in the boot and all is intact no split or damaged wires! Must be my boot switch itself!
I have got a similar problem my boot release opens all the time when I am driving opens then tries to lock clicking sound all the time could this fix remedy my problem
Hi, you will need to check that the switch is receiving power. Most likely that there is a break in the wire where it goes between the roof and the tailgate(pull the rubber boot back to inspect the wiring). It can also be a GEM unit fault but this is very rare. Also, don’t rule out that it could be a faulty part even if it is new.
Here is a link from Steve at SY Diagnostics, although it is a different model the process is very similar and covers some good points that I didn’t mention as it was not the problem in my case. Hope you find the cause of the issue. ua-cam.com/video/gXXc6-2fhZc/v-deo.html
@@thegasketshead1416 thanks I bypassed the switch and touched the wires no joy , inspected the wires going through the tail gate rubbers all looked ok , apparently under the carpet passenger side is worth checking for faulty wiring , what’s the Gem ?
@@MrTom1379 the GEM module is the interior fuse box which incorporates the body control module. It may be worth checking from the switch back to the fuse box with a multimeter. If you tried to by pass it and nothing then there will be an open circuit somewhere or an issue at the gem
Although it is something I have never had to try, as a last resort you could drill a hole in it and carefully cut it open with a small hacksaw blade/dremel etc to get access to the tabs from the inside.
já tedy nevím, ale měnil jsem třikrát otvírání kufru u C-Maxe u Fiesty a nikdy jsem nesundával obložení ani zadní lištu, prostě jsem vycvaknul vypínač vzadu, odpojil kabel od spínače a napojil a zacvaknul nový. Netuším proč bych rozebíral celé dveře, šrouby a já nevím co ješt když to není nutné pokud odejde spínač. zbytečná práce.

Great video, helped me a lot fixing my S-Max faulty boot latch. Thanks
Very helpful video thank you. I have to change the switch on mt daughter's cmax as it has the symptoms that you described.
Very helpful - thankyou !
You are a legend!
That's helpful my 2008 cmax has got loads of little faults this being one of them.

Absolute hero, cheers
Perfect video, really easy work. Solved an annoying problem. Thanks mate.
Kind regards from the Netherlands

Great video. Does the cmax mark 2 just pop out or do you still need to remove trim
From memory it’s pretty similar though it’s been a long time since I did a mk2 and cannot remember tbh

Hi, it is different on the later models but I do not have the part number to hand I’m afraid

Podrías hacer un vídeo y decir dónde se pone el gato para cambiar uva rueda en ese coche? No sé dónde ponerlo. Te lo agradecería mucho
Thank you. Greathelp.
Hi I changed my switch but when I use the key it releases but I have to do it twice to actually open the rear door any ideas

I have got a similar problem my boot release opens all the time when I am driving opens then tries to lock clicking sound all the time could this fix remedy my problem
Quite a common problem also, the corrosion in the handle shorts the wires and will randomly unlock over bumps. A new switch will 99.9% be the cure
Hi I’ve fitted new switch but it won’t work but opens ok using the remote any ideas ?

Did you get the switch from ford dealer or bought elsewhere
Mine was from Ford but you can get them for peanuts online
Could these switches be removed without having to get at it from the inside?
