We have been really impressed with this keypad entry door lock and think it will work great for our AirBnB business. We chose this lock for it's simplicity. It does not include a wifi connection, which was important for us to prevent hacking and unauthorized entry into our home. Re: programming- "I order a Kwikset lock to replace this Amazon Basics that didn't work, turns out the Kwikset is the EXACT same lock only with much better instructions. I applied those instructions to the Amazon Basics lock and everything worked fine immediately. Using the Amazon Basics instructions letter for letter just was unsuccessful after multiple frustrating attempts and troubleshooting. Here is my summary of the Kwikset instructions adapted to the Amazon Basics lock. 1. While the door is OPEN and UNLOCKED enter the programming code 0000, press lock/unlock, you will hear one beep, press 0, press lock/unlock. The latch bolt will extend and retract and the L/U button will turn green or red ( green successfully recognized door orientation) red make sure door is unlocked and batteries are fresh. 2. press L/U button, latch bolt will extend to lock ( this is how you lock the door) 3. Enter default code 1234 then press L/U - the door will unlock 4. Delete all user codes ( my suggestion - this will free up the memory to accept your new user codes) 5. Add user codes: Make sure door is unlocked and open, enter 0000, press L/U, one beep, press 1, press L/U, one beep, enter new user code 4-10 digits, press L/U, 2 beeps if successful, 3 unsuccessful, try again. Test the code: Wake the screen by pressing random button, enter new user code, press L/U, door should unlock. Otherwise use the Amazon Basics instructions to perform other functions. Hope that helps all of you that are unhappy with this lock. Amazon - please rewrite those instructions!"

Because I was doing it by myself I used blue painters tape to secure the keypad to the door while I was lining it up and putting the screws in. ✌🏼💜

What size is the borehole on your door in your video? I have a schlag lock from 1988 like yours and it is smaller than the current ones on the market.thanks
You're all right. This video skips what we all hoped to see. The answer is the instructions aren't clear. Think of "User code" as unlock code. The User code is what you type in to unlock the door. The programming code is the code that you type in to be able to make changes to the unit. User Code = Unlock code! Look at me I should be a UA-camr!

I just had mine delivered today but u can pick it within 4secs so I'll either put it on back door or have a extra locking entry door knob for extra security
Get a home alarm system so if someone comes in that picks it ,the cops will be on the way
What about your bottom lock? It looks like the keypad is just for the top lock. So you would still need to use a key for your bottom lock right?
Yes, but more likely he will replace that knob
Not trying to be rude but that's not a complete install.
That would have included the programming too not sure why people are so scared too.
There is a small button on the inside labeled with a R and if you hold it until it beeps X3 it will clear everything and go to default. Yes, a little more work but, you would be helping countless folks with the full operation and install.
I'm tripping all over myself with this as the user manual states to enter PC press/number/PC ECT.
Also says del uc at once can't wrap my head around that either.

Did anyone else have issue with it not locking. I got another one and same thing. I see it says I need to redo step 1 but the lock did work for a couple weeks why am I having issues with 2 of them now???
How do you program the darn thing?
So the manual lists how to reprogram everything but does not tell you how to actually open the lock (manual link in the Amazon listing). If you reset the lock (hold down the “R” button for 5 seconds), it’ll reset to the default user code 1234. To open the lock, put in the user code and then press the lock/unlock button. Once the lock is open, press the lock/unlock button again to lock.
Just installed it and am having problems with a few things:
1) I can only take out the key when the deadbolt is in the locked (cylinder protruded) position. When I turn the key to the unlocked position, the key doesn't come out no matter which position the key is turned to.
2) When the deadbolt is in the locked position with the key in the key hole, the knob on the inside of the door can't unlock the door. It's stuck!
3) I don't seem to be able to add a user code to it. I'll try to fix these problems tomorrow and, failing that, I will need to return the lock.

@@laurie-annew9923 I did. Just turn the cylinder to a different position, put it in, and try again. As for the user code, it was a problem to me but I just totally reset the program (use the reset button behind the batteries), then try it again. One thing that the manual doesn't say, I think, is that when you try to use the code to lock (deadbolt protruding outward), you have to punch in the code, press the oval Lock/Unlock button on top once, listen to the sound of something happening, wait maybe a second or two, then press that oval Lock/Unlock button again. The deadbolt will come out. To unlock it (deadbolt returning back into the hole), just punch in the same code and press the Lock/Unlock button only ONCE!
please help me, when I press 0000- lock-0- Lock it only opens to the right and I need it to go to the opposite side

The manual (and this video) tell how to install it and program it but not how to actually USE it. Frustrating.
What a piece of junk lock. Hours and hours to figure out programming. Also btw we all know how to put screws and batteries in. We don’t need a tutorial on that.
