"At the end of this review I'll grab a pair of shorts and show you what it looks like in the pocket." Didn't know that you did your reviews pantsless...
Just bought myself one and it's gonna be my first ever knife! I love the design and since it's been marked down to $45 instead of the original $60, it's also an affordable purchase for a first timer. Thank's for introducing me to this knife 2 years ago CL!
If I remember right, it was Onion himself who spoke about turning the knife about 90 degrees in the pocket before pulling it out. That way it's easier to pull it out without any need to lift the pocket clip up at first.
Bought this for a friend of mine for his birthday. Got it for $35 off amazon. The knife showed up today, and I opened it and tried it out just to make sure it wasn't some cheap Chinese knockoff, and to sharpen it up a little bit. The knife is absolutely beautiful, great lockup, and I really like that the spine of the blade is rounded. Really just a wonderful knife so far. Hoping the knife holds up under extended use.
I carried this knife for over a year and a thing I want to point out is that the pocket clip will make a hole in your pants after a while where the checkered pin sits against your pants. The clip however functions perfectly. It's a secure hold but also very easy to get out of the pocket. The flipper is great. Never had any issues with it. The slim form makes you able to use your pocket without noticing it's there when digging through your pocket. It's definately not the best knife I've ever owned, but it's a decent knife and if you like the looks I will recommend it. A concern some people have is the blade being close to the edge when closed. You can feel the blade but it's not really an issue.
I've been waiting for this knife to come out since seeing footage of it from shot show. It looks amazing, very classy, and I'm glad that it sounds like it works extremely well. Hopefully they'll be a bit more available to purchase soon so I can get one for my father's birthday.
Thank you for this great review. This is a great little EDC knife love the design and the feel of this knife, and I just can't get over how smooth the opening action is.
I bought a first release version and love it. I didn't want to mess it up so I bought another for edc. Amazing little blade. CRKT did something right with that ball berring system.
I generally only use my Ripple for light tasks so there's never enough pressure going on to cause me any problems but I'd imagine under hard use this might be an issue. I definitely agree that it's not a cheaply made knife, just the price is cheap, it's a very solid knife especially considering the ~$35 price.
I was spinning a case swayback jack in my hand when I clicked on this video. What a coincidence! ;D Also, I'm not sure with larger knives, but the swayback handle is GREAT for pull cuts, like cutting up an apple. Just hold the knife in your hand and rotate it so the edge is facing inwards. Great video!
Re: lifting the clip- in the demo video Ken Onion did, he said you can just rotate the knife and pull it out, you don't have to lift the clip. Is this something you tried? Also, with regards to the clip, I feel like it would fit in really well on pants with a slant pocket (as opposed to the J pocket on jeans or shorts), since it's hanging off the end like that.
After watching this review many many times I finally just caved in and decided to buy this knife. I was thinking about it a lot as it is a softer steel and I like this version better than the grooved one even thigh it has a better blade steel. though I am glad I waited as I got it for $32 including shipping and am now very eagerly waiting for it to arrive. Great review as always. I remember when you released this vid this knife was available on a few different sites for like $90 which is a little much for this knife IMO.
Just got mine in the mail today and I've found instead of opening the pocket clip and the pulling it out to prevent it from snagging on the seam of your pocket rotating the knife so the clip is pointing away from your hip and then pulling it out it works just like a traditional pocket clip. Love the knife almost as much as I live the channel! P.S. have you ever cone across an Ontario R.A.T. model 1? IMO the most rugged knife for the price... I'll send you mine if you review it! :D
Great review. I love how you showed the knife clipped to a pair of shorts! I started to do that in my videos and I couldn't remember who I got the idea from. I think it's an important part of a review that most leave out. I have one on the way from HouseofBlades and will be doing my own review.
Hi lawrence90909. All CRKT knives and tools are currently made in China or Taiwan. Swindle is China. Ken Onion designed it in his shop in Hawaii. We did release a knife this year that is 100% Made in USA. The M16-04A is a project that we worked hard on here in Oregon. Designed by Kit Carson. Thank you for your interest. CRKT
Actually they released a 2nd gen of the Ripple about the same time this one came out. They are definitely very similar knives though. I have a Ripple (the cheaper one) and love it, this one is on my wishlist along with a higher end 2nd gen Ripple. :)
what a great looking knife...i don't have CRKT knives except for the neck knife, but that one has me thinking.....that was really an excellent review....good info, concise and hit all of the major points....well done!!!
Sexy! But with the blade is tip up and forward facing, combined with the flipper this seems to have a huge potential for finger/hand slicing while in pocket?
its a great knife..i had just gotten a Foresight, ans wanted to get another IKBS..and this type knife (jacknife or Barber razor type) is really rare and fun to handle. i did manage, without knowledge, get a first production..has a ribbed handle style..if you ever had a Ken Onion you will appreciate the knifes he makes. I know some say, is it really that different,? and YES..it is. the knifes have an intrinsic value of fun and you find yourself feeling luke a kid again..who got that Hotwheel or Matchbox car that you have been waiting for and just had to have (and 40 years latsr you probably still do) its blade style is especially cool and like all of Kens designs not only pretty they are immediately utilitarian and are almost like a magnet to stuff that needs cutting. Hold on, and let this knife lead the way.
Hey Jeff, I know they're all totally different knives, but if you could only have one, would you keep the Swindle, the Foresight or the Nirk/Tighe for EDC use?
Hey Jeff! I'm looking to get a new all purpose knife. For use with mostly fishing, but would get used for other daily things (I work at a UPS Store, so it would get used in that scenario almost everyday.) I'm looking to get a Spyderco or maybe a CRKT any suggestions? Thanks!
I also own the cheap ripple, though i doubt you can call the knife itself of cheap quality. i love it and its fast deployment, but one thing that got to me was the knife clip which protrudes a bit too much causing discomfort when i hold it. do you also have this issue?
Looks like it has a strange top angle. Like it's curved up at the tip of the knife and then again at the end by the belt/pocket clip? Is it just my eyes playing tricks or is that how it really is?
wouldn't the side of the pocket press on the flipper in your pocket if you clip it tip up facing that direction and stab you when you put your hand in your pocket? or is the detente strong enough to keep that from happening?
ok so you saif there was no problem with lockup, but mine has considerable blade play even of you dont use it and just open it multiple times. this is even after i used loctite on it as well. do you think iw as sent a faulty knife?
budk Assisted Opening Rescue Knife Set EMT (sorry i cant post links in youtube) can you do a review on this knife possible it is cheap but i want to know if it is good and i love the style of your reviews
Im having a hard choice between choosing which knife to purchase I thought this and the kershaw leek both fit my criteria for a edc knife and I like to have a flipper over thumb studs, have any more suggestions for any other knives ?
Lol cutlerylove r u not wearing any bottoms and that's y u didn't show us in the beginning of the video for the pocket clip. I'm just playing around sorry but I gotta say I love ur videos keep them going brotha
I got one yesterday and the pivot screw/pivot just spins freely, I can't tighten or loosen it and the lock fails to engage unless you flip it open with force. Making the knife unsafe and unusable. I really like the look and feel, but looking at amazon reviews it looks like this is a common problem. Was wondering if anyone that ordered one from CRKT or a place like bladehq, had the same issues
I have found if you pay attention not to place fingers on the portion of the frame that locks the knife, it opens with little effort..the friction of the pressure on that area that locks the knife makes all the difference in the opening being difficult versus almost friction free..its wicked. I also experienced the hard opening, lubed it up..adjusted set screw..but one night it flipped open so easily I couldnt figure out why..then it came to me and i proved it true.
I have a CRKT Crawford Kasper & I Love that knife..... but this knife looks cool for my niece even though it's a "Gentleman's knife". Thanks for Showing.
This knife is so clean and smooth I bought it as an emergency backup I carry stashed up in my prison wallet. Comfortable and doesn't irritate, even after a few days. 😂🤣😂🤣
I'm really interested in knives but have no idea about the types of steel and the pros and cons of them, could anyone talk me through it or link me to a video?
"At the end of this review I'll grab a pair of shorts and show you what it looks like in the pocket."

Hahahahaha good one x'D

You said something in this video that few people ever say about anything, ever. "It doesn't necessarily mean it's bad, it's just different."

Such a gorgeous clean design, and the perfect action makes the knife just amazing. One knife I would pick if I had to have only one.
I saw you posted this while I was at work, been looking forward to it all day.. and the whole last month. Hoping to own this someday. Thanks
Cheers Jeff! Your videos are a pleasure and you always help me with my next purchase! Love from the UK!

When I saw this knife in your edc, I had to get it and I have no regrets a month later. Thanks
The grooved version is going to be 12C27 Sandvik steel and + $20 over the standard plain scaled one according to CRKT website.
got the knife yesterday and started carrying it today. definitely a cool knife. as you mentioned, the pocket clip may be hard to get used to.
I generally only use my Ripple for light tasks so there's never enough pressure going on to cause me any problems but I'd imagine under hard use this might be an issue. Great video!
like the centofante tribute, crkt seems to have knocked it outta the park with this elegant folder!
I have a review soon of the mantis balisong karambit knife
I got the textured version in Sandvik, razor sharp piece of Art. Good review Jeff. Thanks

Great review Jeff I think you've sold me on this one. And just so you know I've seen the Swindle on Amazon for between $30 and $45.
Great review. I love how you showed the knife clipped to a pair of shorts! I started to do that in my videos and I couldn't remember who I got the idea from. I think it's an important part of a review that most leave out. I have one on the way from HouseofBlades and will be doing my own review.

What a lovely little knife. Definitely going to pick up one of these. Thanks for the review, great as always.

its extremely rare for any framelock to wear out with use, youd have this knife for many years before it woudl be an issue
Hey Jeff, I know they're all totally different knives, but if you could only have one, would you keep the Swindle, the Foresight or the Nirk/Tighe for EDC use?
Bought one yesterday, should be here next week. I can't wait!
If you're going to buy a folder it has to be the Enzo pk70. Scandi grind and its legal everywhere. Expensive but awesome knife.
mintwithahole checked it out and the look of the blade is the only nice thing I saw. I’m sorry but it doesn’t compare lol
...I still remember when you explained the IKBS system and ball bearings to us, like we're 2-3 years old
Awesome knife, got mine today and can hardly put it done long enough to type this! Posted a quick first impressions video too.
Hey Jeff! I'm looking to get a new all purpose knife. For use with mostly fishing, but would get used for other daily things (I work at a UPS Store, so it would get used in that scenario almost everyday.) I'm looking to get a Spyderco or maybe a CRKT any suggestions? Thanks!
slashing happens faster, slicing is more precise both work better with more curved blades
Based on this review, I just bought one. Now I have an edc beater and a dress up gentleman's folder. What more can a guy ask for? Thanks.
Excuse me, is there a certain possiblity that you could (re)make a series for balisong tutorials?
-Best regards
Hey just a question how do you feel about Kershaw knives personally I love them just wanted to know you more experienced opinion
Jeff, any recomendation of any other gentlemen's knife(s)?
This one is not personally visually appealing.
Been looking forward to this review. Thanks Jeff.
Nice review. The audio is a bit weired, it is not centered, but panning across the center in an unrelurar pattern somehow.
The steel quality of the Leek is better isn't it? I'm kinda torn between the two...
Hey Jeff could your recommend a good, easy to use knife sharpener for someone who has never really used one before.
wouldn't the side of the pocket press on the flipper in your pocket if you clip it tip up facing that direction and stab you when you put your hand in your pocket? or is the detente strong enough to keep that from happening?
I have watched this video about six times just because I like the look of this knife
ok so you saif there was no problem with lockup, but mine has considerable blade play even of you dont use it and just open it multiple times. this is even after i used loctite on it as well. do you think iw as sent a faulty knife?
Can you carry this in the left pocket?
budk Assisted Opening Rescue Knife Set EMT (sorry i cant post links in youtube)

CRKT is stepping it up!
Hey @cutlerylover can you do a review on a great workmens knife. For construction mostly thanks
You should review the cold steel lawman
Im having a hard choice between choosing which knife to purchase
I thought this and the kershaw leek both fit my criteria for a edc knife and I like to have a flipper over thumb studs, have any more suggestions for any other knives ?
Very cool, Jeff! Thanks for the very informative review!
god i just looked at a vid youmade ages ago and this sounds and look so much better lol
Awesome, I've been looking forward hearing your review.
Lol cutlerylove r u not wearing any bottoms and that's y u didn't show us in the beginning of the video for the pocket clip. I'm just playing around sorry but I gotta say I love ur videos keep them going brotha

Yo Jeff. U think u can update us when they make more, n r available 2 buy, plz.
Does anyone know if you can get this knife in Europe or if it can be shipped to Europe? If so could you send a link please to the website? Thanks
Ordered one just now, thanks!
Have a grooved one arriving today. Can't wait! Awesome review, BTW!
Great video and they have them on amazon instock
Ive wated so long for this
I got one yesterday and the pivot screw/pivot just spins freely, I can't tighten or loosen it and the lock fails to engage unless you flip it open with force. Making the knife unsafe and unusable. I really like the look and feel, but looking at amazon reviews it looks like this is a common problem.
Was wondering if anyone that ordered one from CRKT or a place like bladehq, had the same issues
How do you like it? Doesn't bother you in anyway right? Do wharncliffe's normally have a slight curve to them?
Can't learn if you don't ask....lol
Awesome looking knife. Great review.
Soon I will buy this knife only because of the smoothness it gots
i love how that knife looks
Does the clip actually work tho like does it fall of after a walk
This knife is like the one you take to a wedding, waring a nice smoking and a tall hat xD
Did you already review this
whats the diffrence between slashing and slicing
Nice blade!Ive seen them in a few places for $30-$40.
pink thing on your left hand?
Flipper doesn't work, it's going back. Won't open or lock. Bummed.

My brother has one and I love it

😂🤣😂🤣
I'm really interested in knives but have no idea about the types of steel and the pros and cons of them, could anyone talk me through it or link me to a video?
I have the textured scale version. it has a harder steel on the blade. Much nicer. its worth the extra 20 dollars.
I carried mind yesterday. Cool blade.
reminds me of the ripple, this its next generation? ;)
great review, keep up the great work.
Which knife should i get this or the crkt m16-10kz?
Check out KME sharpeners .. They make some of the best knife and broadhead sharpening kits on the market
Hey Jeff do you go on /k/?
Beutiful knife. Great vid Jeff.
WHAT HAPPENED TO BALISONG?
