Grisha is the best character in anime in my opinion. A perfectly flawed character who dies off-screen in the 2nd episode ends up being pivotal to all of the biggest twists in this epic storyline. And throw perfect voice acting on top of that…
Valid opinion
such a shame we see so little of him, and i love him so much
I support this opinion
Damn man did you just start watching anime last month?
@@drskivient93 I'm happy that we saw very little of him. It's rare to find a character that's so influencial in the story with very little screen/panel time.
Whenever Grisha can see paths Zeke it's because he's LITERALLY SEEING ERENS MEMORY OF IT, SO he's basically seeing from his own POV and Erens POV at the same time, its pretty trippy
That’s why the only times he sees Zeke is when Eren is standing directly behind Grisha
Is awesome
@@Random-qi3vv But that doesn’t explain why Grisha is able to touch zeke.
Clearly the paths is much more powerful than that. He is able to interact with memories as if they were actually there. So, zeke and eren sort of did Time Travel by using the power of the Founder and Attack Titan.
I recently watched a whole-ass video essay on this concept. Even after watching it I didn't understand until I watched it like 2 more times. When I started this show I never thought that concepts of, almost time travel, would be relevant. This is the reason AOT is one of the best shows I've ever watched.
@@greg8401 It is kinda like time travel but using memories and because the founding titan is so powerful, plus eren’s attack titan. He is able to travel back into the past memories and interact with Grisha and physically touch him.
That’s the most craziest part is that Grisha is not only able to see through Eren’s memories but the founding titan’s power is able for Grisha to see zeke and eren with his own eyes in his present time and able to hug zeke as well.
to clarify, the attack titan has the power to show the memories of the future users, with that Eren showed the memories of him revisiting his fathers memories to his father in real time, with that he created a two way communication where he can actually affect the past itself, lots of people got confused by this, even when the manga came out. but basically by showing eren his fathers memories, zeke unintentionally allowed Eren to change the past.
No.Zeke didn't allow to change past, since EREN touched Historia he knew about attack titan power and PLAN for along time.
Attack Titan's futuresight got potentialized by the Founder+Royal blood combo, allowing Eren to communicate with Grisha in the past, altought he didn't change the past since it was always meant to happen, Time Travel in AoT is more likely a loop.
@@harryjparker6121 What the original comment means is that Zeke unknowingly gave Eren the opportunity to manipulate Grisha as Eren couldn't have done so without traveling through his father's memories. As you said, he knew about the Attack Titan's power since season 3 but it was only because of Zeke that he was able to enact his plan.
@@harryjparker6121 correct! No past was change. Eren’s dad was able to see the future Eren because of the Attack Titan. Remember when Kruger (idk if I spell his name right) but he even mentioned Mikasa and Armin because he saw Eren’s memories.
This episode was mind blowing ! Eren could’ve avoid all of Season 4 and parts after Season 3, right when he kissed Historia’s hand. He really could of change everything and save a lot of life’s… when the protagonist becomes the antagonists WOW
Can’t wait for next week !
Grisha able to see Zeke because Eren was standing behind him, giving him the exact full view of Zeke. Grisha is looking at Eren's POV, hence he never commented on Eren's appearance, but Zeke's as a bearded old man and saying has grown up so much etc.
Technically Grisha is hugging air in real life back then. Grisha is seeing Zeke and himself at Eren’s view and proceeded to hug him. Just like the two key scenes in the episode where Grisha is frightened and shook, because he saw himself in Eren’s pov when Eren is directly looking at him.
Woww
woooooow damn
and to add a bit more eren was sending this grisha his memories of what happening rn and because of the memories grisha is constantly receiving he was able to see zeke but like what op said from the pov of eren
😨💀
Can I ask why is he looking at only Erens POV? Cuz I’m kinda confused about that
This season really makes you wonder on who you’re rooting for now
Same here. I have no idea if I'm supporting zeke or eren rn
@@jxmint4458 idk, en I’m rooting for the ppl who were dragged in this
Eren the only reason why I read and watched this shit
@UCgmHwVKwTxz69fj3cuIjN9w you do understand that the mangaka made Eren to be a despicable but understandable villian right? You Eren simps are fucking wild
@@jxmint4458 Neither of them. Both are wrong.
2:44 he can see zeke because this is the PERSPECTIVE OF EREN RIGHT NOW, and Grisha sees it through the future memories.
6:24 Remember season 3 ep 21? the owl, Eren Kruger tells Grisha to save Mikasa, Armin, and everyone else. But he is not supposed to know them.
なるほど!
This is an insane twist. Now we know the reason for everything he has done after the scene in the throneroom. He literally knows everything that will happen and does things according to this fact.
Non spoiler but Well not everything tbf future eren only sends current eren some of the future memories
@@axelgustafsson4237 Eren after kissing Historia's hand pretty much knows everything that he has to do to unlock his path
He only know the future up to a certain point, but he doesn't really know how to get there.
He clearly didn't expect the Marley surprise attack at all for exemple, and was caugth by surprise several time in the battle, even having a socked expression when it happened
@@castilloricky85 exactly enough but not all
@@castilloricky85 "pretty much knows everything about how to unlock the paths"
I'm pretty sure he learned by putting 2 and 2 together (touched a titan of royal blood, the only time the titans did what he said). I don't think he received any memories confirming what he had to do.
Eren just pulled one of the best plot twits in anime history right here! Zeke may have outsmarted Eren's outsmarting, but Eren outsmarted Zeke's outsmarting to Eren's outsmarting!!!!!!
In the end. Become simp. Don't really know why did he do that. Eren is ymir pawn
@@ainz5352 delete what u said u might spoil people
@@ainz5352 Eren had a clear goal in mind since the beginning… he just never revealed it and hid behind a false goal… that’s what we see at the end… Although tbh I would’ve also liked it if the ending was different and he wasn’t a *spoiler*
Mikasa simp… I too was disappointed by that fact that they made him look like such an amazing antagonist only to change our perception in the final chapter
@@tusharsrivastava370 Ok so just a second. You're telling me that if you knew this would be the last conversation you were having with someone you loved and that the whole world would look at you as a devil from this point on, you wouldn't say absolutely everything you've ever felt?
Indeed
The way eren manipulated Grisha was like a horror movie.
“Err.. have I been to here before?” Eren, S3E6
“I was lucky enough to be the only survivor from the massacre.” Rob Reiss, S3E6
“If you want to save Mikasa, Armin and everyone else, you must complete your mission.” The Owl, S3E21
“My hand can still feel the way that my dad massacred the royal kids.” Eren, S4E19
The biggest plot twist finally revealed. Grisha, from the very beginning, was never “the real one” to kill the royal family. Some ppl may think Eren changed the past or time travel, no he didn’t, his manipulation to Grisha was included in the past. Neither past nor future could be changed in AOT. It has a fixed timeline.
And the the attack titan ability, it actually does not foresight the future. It can receive brief memories from the future inheritor. How Eren knows his own future is the adult Eren sends memories back to his father, then when young Eren touches any royal, the memories will kind of unlock, so young Eren can see his future self from his father memories. Also the freedom seeking will from AT, is from Eren as every AT shifter follows will of the last AT.
And probably you wonder how Grisha saw Zeke, he saw Zeke through Eren’s memories.
Isnt paths eren the one sending memories?
@@nstree2641 I think this is the point that so many people argue about. I do believe AT can send memories whenever they want as this is one of their abilities.
A lot of readers (me included) believed for while Eren saw all of his own future memories when kissing Historia's hand, but the explaination you gave is most certainly the canon one, everything Eren does make more sense this way.
@@sganarellelevalet7479 yes I believe he saw all memories as well at that moment but not in a detailed way. That’s why in some parts Eren acted weird like he was asking Sasha’s last word and he knew when Mikasa would appear m.
Zeke: I will save you from our father's brainwashing
Eren: I am the one who brainwashed my father
Zeke: NANI?!?!
In short: Eren told Isayama to write Attack on Titan. All fun and games, until Eren is the protagonist, antagonist, writer, direction and producer of the story.
"Memories of the Future" is, without a shadow of a doubt, the single greatest twist in fiction.
Yow don't do that sh*t bruh that's scary
I still dont understand whats so sick about it, okay he made Grisha do that 1 thing. Is that all?
@@surgrus4367 Oh boy, Eren made a lot more people do a lot more stuff, as you'll see in later episodes. Eren is more villanous than you think.

@@gamistry2947 but was it not his sisters death that caused Grisha to become a restorationist?
What a legendary episode.
Fan fact: Eren forcing grisha to kill the Reiss family is what set most of the story events in to motions:
- Carla wouldn't die
- Eren wouldn't got the titan
- He would've probably died in EP5
- All the betrayal from the worries wouldn't even happen
- Eren saying to grisha to let only historia's father a life to set s3p1's plot in motion
In other words Eren wrote the whole story lol

why wouldn't carla die
@Dogee wait what, when did he control
@@gilmsgabriel it's a spoiler lmao he spoiled it. It'll be explained in next episode.
@@izzy-jd7ft oh fuck lmao
It’s memories but paths transcends time, so two people from different points in time can meet halfway through paths/Titan realm.
And the past was never altered, what we saw happen in season 3 happened because Eren told him to do it here, we just never saw the full story because Eren and Zeke were invisible for the most part except when Grisha looked through Eren’s memories and saw himself (thus knowing Eren was there).
So wouldn’t just be a continuous loop of Erens changing the past.
The reason why everything here happened cause of another eren. Now the eren we have is messing with the other past time, basically the loop that keeps going on
@@johnmichaelprudhoe8541
It’s a causal loop, he never changed the past. The past is the exact same. Both before this episode and after Grisha was reluctant and future
Eren didn’t change anything, he did something that ensured what’s already happens happens. Paths’ abilities transcend normal spacetime, and so the cause and effect regarding Grisha stealing the founding lead into one another with no start.
So yes, a loop, but nothing was every changed because loops like this are eternal.
Another 10/10 episode! Mappa did amazing animating this bro🔥
Since the begining of season 4 everyone even characters are like "eren changed what happened to eren did he became evil ?" No in this episode you understand eren ALWAY been like that
And he did not get forced to have the attack titan, he took the attack titan himself from his own free will
Note also eren wanted to join the survey cops and going outside the world BEFORE having the attack titan and before his mom died, so he was not influenced or brainwash in any way
This is Eren Jaeger true nature
so he knew his mother was going to die but just allowed it to happen?
@@Charles-kv2jr yes. He could've saved her but then he wouldn't be able to get to the point Where's he's at now.
I have waited so long for this to be adapted. One of my favorite chapters from the series.
Normally, the Attack titan would only be able to see the future memories of its successors like all titan shifters remember memories of their predecessors (receiving them randomly, not being able to manipulate which are shown and which aren’t). However, since Eren is in paths and in contact with Zeke, he can use the Founding, which allows him to be able to send memories to his father in order to manipulate him. I assume he used the Founding for sending these memories during this moment in Paths, because we never get any indication that Grisha or Kruger could send memories back.
Anyhow, this is how Eren manipulated Grisha into killing the Reiss family, by showing him memories of Grisha’s own childhood (as we saw) but also Eren’s own future memories that he received when he saw Grisha’s memories after kissing Historia’s hand (and those memories he could see because he had sent them back to Grisha here, it’s a loop). Everything that happened in the past happened because of what happened in the future, and vice versa. It’s a fixed timeline, everything was basically dated to happen and HAD to happen for it to come to this point.
This opens up the possibility for the Attack Titan’s ability to not even be its true ability. Maybe Grisha only understood it that way because he received memories from Eren (who was using the Founding to send those memories) and concluded that the AT must be able to see the future.
As for why Grisha could see Zeke, he’s receiving memories Eren is sending to him (again, by using the Founding) about THIS MOMENT happening, which make Grisha see Zeke from Eren’s point of view. He’s kinda seeing from 2 different sets of eyes: his own and Eren’s. When he hugs Zeke, he’s just hugging air in reality.
At least, that’s my interpretation of it. It remains pretty vague unfortunately.
sounds right
Kruger (attack titan before grisha) knew who Mikasa and armin were before they were even born. So I think that all the attack titans can see down the line to an extent.
@@julysolchenberger5790 no. He didn't know who they were. Right after he mentions them, Grisha asks who are armin and mikasa and krugger responds he doesn't know. He also says he doesn't know who's memories they might be.
@@izzy-jd7ft when I say he knew them I mean he knew their names, I thought that was what I was implying. I assume he has most likely seen them through Eren's memories, or even Grisha's.
I don’t think that this Eren here is the one who send those memories to his dad, but the Eren in the future did (the one that did all of the horrible things that Grisha warned Zeke about). Because Eren was so surprise when he knew that Grisha can actually sees Zeke standing in front of him. And Zeke have said in the previous episode and also in this one that he is the one who owns the founding titan’s power, not Eren cause Ymir only obeys to the ones with royal bloods.
Fun fact: you are binging reactors rn
Grisha can't directly see Eren, it's because he has Eren's memories of doing all this and looking at the memories of his entire life again, Grisha knows from Eren's memories where he would be standing, he isn't literally looking at them, but essentially looking back at himself from where Eren would be viewing these memories. Also Grisha isn't hugging Zeke literally, he just knows the position of where Zeke would be standing, since Eren is looking at them. So if it was for real, then u would see Grisha just hugging the air 😂
I would agree with you until the last part because I'm really not sure about that. If Grisha was really hugging air in reality he wouldn't be able to lean on Zeke and balance the hug like that, because to hug someone you need support and resistance from their body to be stable. Guess we'll never truly know what happened there lol
@@impanthering Grisha sees everything through erens eyes, thats why he only says he sees zeke when eren is standing behind him. He is in fact, hugging air.
So in order to avoid any confusion regarding the time travel mechanics, I will break down what type of Time travel we're dealing with here.
AOT operates by a particular type of time travel where it's almost impossible to change the past even if you somehow go back in time. And any change that you tried to cause was always meant to happen in the overall timeline. Here time is a fixed circle, not a stream. We may see Eren meddle in the past but that was always meant to happen. This calls into the question of the existence of free will in the world of Attack of Titan.
The Attack Titan's ability is to receive the memories of its future inheritors. This was hinted when Kruger mentioned Mikasa and Armin towards the end of S3. Keep in mind, they can only view these memories but can't interact with them. So how was Eren able to meddle in the past?
Well, he had 3 perfect conditions:
1. He had the ability of the Attack Titan
2. The ability of the Founding Titan
3. He was also in contact with someone with royal blood AKA Zeke.
After Zeke tapped Eren's head, they were able to view Grisha's past memories with Eren using the power of the coordinate. They were freely able to view the past as if it were through a one way mirror.
Now if Eren had any other Titan other than the Attack Titan, he would only be able to look. But since Attack Titan can see forward in time, Grisha can use this to see Eren's recollection of the same event that he's currently experiencing in real time.
So this mean that whenever Grisha can see or hear Eren, he's actually recieving a brief future memory from Eren's POV where he can see out of his eyes and hear his words. That means he is seeing himself from a 3rd perspective. Then if he responds, his response is simply part of the memory that Eren/Zeke are viewing, allowing for a two way communication through time.
Also Note that everytime, Grisha sees Zeke, Eren is always standing behind his dad. So whenever Grisha sees Zeke, it is from actually due to the memories from Eren's POV
Great comment explaining everything, you deserved a heart for this, so take mine ❤️
3:50 MISAKA huh? its the final season and here you are calling her misaka
He wants views
9:09 Attack on Titan really had you stuttering crazy😂
Attack titan inheritor can see the memories of the next Attack titan inheritor, so Grisha can see what Eren would see (through Eren's eyes as if he is Eren), that's why Grisha is able to see Zeke only when Eren is looking at Zeke.
Grisha can see them because he can see the visions of future users of the attack titan. So technically, Grisha can see the future through Erin's eyes. That's how Grisha was communicating with Erin. So, when Grisha saw Zeke, what he really saw was Zeke through Erin's eyes.
yeah Erin is mad
Bro that's ''Eren'' not Erin but yeah I agree with you totally. Isayama is a GENIUS!
@@themindbenderr mb
Biggest plot twist in anime history.
Bro… THIS SHOW IS SO GOOD
Every time grisha saw zeke was through eren’s memories. So like he was viewing himself in a 3d perspective.
When he hesitated to kill them, eren gave him his memories of that specific time so he could talk and grisha would listen😩
So good
Grisha is such a good character man and this is such a good twist that I've been waiting for Anime-onlys to react to!!!
*Everything we've learned so far is thrown out the window in this episode.
I love how the ending of this episode and the last line up in the last episode it ended with a head butt and in the end of this one the head butt ended with Eren victorious so in short this episode only took a head butt to wrap up while also answering many questions I can’t wait for next week
Yea kinda crazy if you think about it. They were in those memory for years and in reality it was only for few seconds.
How could you hold your tear with father and zeke hug scene
İ'm so blessed to experince this plot twist without any spoilers, thank god. Now we know who is the real badass.
Hiroshi Tsuchida did an amazing job 🤌🏽 I felt Grisha’s pain 🤧
you always come in clutch man, thanks for the reaction!
this episode made me see eren as truly the villain of the story. in s4 p1 i saw him as some sort of anti hero who did what must be done, but when grisha said that eren would win, that's when i knew that eren was the true villain. also when frieda reiss was saying that the eldians in the walls must stay ignorant to prevent further deaths of people outside the walls and eren's face snarled in anger and you could see his eyes shaking, that was when i fully knew that this man would not stop for anything. that moment was so powerful and it also gives a brief summary of eren's character. in the part with mikasa, and paths eren said that he would take away people's freedom before they could take away his, that was scary. additionally, young 9/10 year old eren having such a deep understanding of the concept of freedom is scary as well.
How's eren a villian when he's fighting to save his people? The world wants the eldians dead, eren wants their freedom.
Imagine having your own child boss you around throughout time
The next episode is called ‘from you 2000 years ago’ and the first ever episode of aot is called ‘to you 2000 years in the future’ so I think the episodes are linked
Attack Titan was sooo op. Any user can alter the future by interacting with the previous user by manipulate their decision. Created to opposed the founding titan if needed
Grishas face when Eren was pissed. He cluld feel his anger and his emotions. He was terrified and haunted by Eren. Question: Grisha didn't want to do it originally until he got Erens memory of himself talking to Grisha. Do that attack titans holders choose when the new memory unlocks?
You know dis man's amazed when he drinks the milk out of the carton
Favorite episode of this part 2 season 4
to put it all simply, Eren is the mastermind of it all and he planned to do this, so when he kissed Historias hand he saw Grisha kill the founding but also saw himself convince Grisha to do it. So we all thought Zeke outsmarted Eren but because Eren had the trait of the attack titan which is being able to see into the future he saw this all along, basically summing it up eren used his mastery of the attack titan to influence Grishas decisions and then he let Grisha see parts of Eren himself in the future
(it's a pretty confusing episode and it gets a bit confusing when trying to sum it all up so if you guys understand what i'm saying cool, for others that don't then my bad)
fun fact: in season 1 episode 2 when eren is on the ship going to wall rose, you can see future eren from now standing there. the foreshadowing in aot is INSANE, this wasnt even in the manga when it was animated
U sure cuz I looked and I cant find future eren bro on season 1 ep 2
Told people since season 1 "The Smiling Titan killing Eren mom will be very important in the end game.
grisha can see them , cause grisha was the attack on titan who can see the future of the others attack on titanns owners , so hes is so hes looking as eren attack on titan prespective so he can see them xD , this is aamzing XDDDDDDD
the video buffering part just got me into a good laugh. Your reaction is very genuine. keep it up!
The attack titan special power is seeing future memory's
Just to clarify. Eren basically used his attack titan ability to show his father his memories of him and Zeke visiting him in real time when his father was still alive. Since Eren and Grisha both have the attack attack at the same time (not on the timeline but in this moment of clashing past and futures) they can communicate. Anyways, using this link that Zeke unknowingly gave Eren access to he is able to change the past. So it’s kind of a big loop if I’m not wrong. Eren goes back to his younger self’s past and changes it, then that past Eren does the same thing, then that Eren does it, and it just keeps going. This is why time travel should not be invented, it would screw up everyone’s shit lol. Anyways, correct if I’m wrong.
Its possible for Grisha to see both Eren and Zeke because Eren showed to Grisha his memories when Zeke brought him(Eren) to Grisha's memories.
eren was just messing with zeke, when he said im free from brainwashing, it was not really meant for zeke to believe him
That flash of kid Eren just before zeke gets pulled out of the memory at the end signifies the moment eren held Historia’s hand. Really puts into perspective just how far in the future he really saw back then which just makes you feel sad for him even more as he slowly becomes the eren we see him now as
What an episode that is, you’ve gotta love AOT, what an anime it is 🔥🔥
The whole point of the show is that no one is good or bad. Everyone is tortured by their past which effects their future. Eren is a product of that. Nothing would change it. He’s moving forward as the future intended it to be. It’s possible that Eren have seen life after the rumbling which achieved actual peace for his friends and that’s what he always wanted. He’s not evil for that. But he’s not good for it either. Sacrifices have to be made.
This episode is what Eren saw when he kissed Historia’s hand! He was always ahead. That’s insane!
Virgin Zeke brainwashed by his father
Chad Eren brainwashed his father
You cannot dismiss Grisha's VA. Dude was in absolute hysterics. The first time I felt sorry for something that isn't Reiner
This episode ust went and changed EVERYTHING we thought we knew of AoT, omfg
Ok now this isn't a spoiler. It's just gonna help you understand how Eren could technically change the past. But then again if you want to you can avoid it:
So basically, one of the powers of the Attack Titan is that it can see the memories of it's future inhibitors. Remember when Eren Krueger told Grisha that he had to save Mikasa and Armin? What Krueger was saying that time was simply a memory he had seen of Grisha. But this raises the question that how did Eren change Grisha's decision? Well. Basically, the future inhibitor can choose which memory to show to the last one. So basically in AOT all the timelines exist at once. The past. The present. The future. It's all happening together. (You'll hear this line once again from a certain person at the end) Now what Eren did, was that he sent these memories of him seeing the flashbacks and him saying all of that back to Grisha. So while saying everything, Eren was simultaneously sending those memories to Grisha. So Grisha basically felt like it was happening in real time. So yeah. Eren really just played 4D chess.
He can see Zeke by Eren's point of view. You can see Eren's right behind Grisha looking at Zeke. And Eren is sending the memories of him seeing Zeke (while they are exploring the past memories) to Grisha during his episode.
So- through the Attack Titans future memory inheritance, Grisha can see future Eren staring back at him as Eren goes back through the paths
I think a lot of people would appreciate you talking about the episode more, your thoughts and feelings about it, like a little review at the end of each episode... love the reactions

When Grisha says please save humanity before they are attacked by titan at that time there was no way that grisha could have known that walls are broken or not, until he had seen the future... We should have known at that point that he had already seen the future. True genius of attack on Titan.
