It's good to see that some people actually still care about these things. The amount of time and effort required to run an operation like this is mind blowing. Also, the knowledge that Shane shared with us here is amazing and doing it for 20 years is incredible, thank you very much for your service, Shane. As a volunteer myself (6 years now) I know how much time goes into this. I only moved to Perth in 2008, so this channel and it's WA content is super interesting for me. Again, thank you Shane, your contribution is greatly appreciated and thanks to Bendan and his "assistant" partner. Great video as usual.
Hi Brendan, thanks for the excellent video. Interesting that you rode Perth's last tram. I used to know a tram enthusiast friend here in Melbourne, who actually rode the last Perth tram in Perth on the last day of public operation back in 1958, when the system closed. My friend has since passed away, but during his life, he traveled worldwide riding and filming tram systems over the years. Great seeing the workshops there. I managed to ride an H class tram on the Glenelg line when visiting Adelaide back in 1982. Interesting seeing the Fremantle tram. That tram system closed in 1952, which is also the year that I was born. Interesting hearing about the Kalgoorlie tram later used in Perth. I was fortunate enough to ride both the Ballarat and Bendigo tram systems, while in operation, back in January 1967. At that time, I lived in Sydney and it was my first ever trip to Melbourne. I eventually moved to Melbourne from Sydney in mid 1981. Anyway, take care and all the best. Rob in Melbourne Australia.
Brendon back in the day there was no such thing as disabled access that is a relatively new thing Shane really knows his stuff such an interesting and knowledgeable video 👍👍👍 It’s a pity white man park is so far away from me I would certainly like to see it all
Great vid mate. TIL that Holden made trams, that's definitely a new one for me! Twenty trams running together sounds nuts, must have been hell on the traffic.
Love Whiteman Park! It’s one of Perths hidden gems. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen a few tram cars in peoples backyards. There is one in North Beach that looks very tram like. These are some of the best Perth related videos I’ve seen.
I travelled to Seattle, Washington a few years ago, and saw firsthand the Pemberton, Western Australian built trams shipped sometime last century to Seattle, Washington for use, and I understand, are still in use today. Would be very interesting to see what facts and history you can find on this often unknown fact. Quite fascinating. Thanks for your videos!
I found this channel this week and have binged every video, I love it. Local history has always been my favourite thing and I was never taught much of it in School; it was always the first fleet or the world wars so this is amazing. May I recommend you check out the Swan View Train Tunnel? It’s part of the heritage trail in the hills and it’s really accessible and in great condition
Looking forward to the Transperth train connection coming up with the completion of the Ellenbrook line. That could be a great video mate - of the first train-tram connection.
really great show. after i moved to perth in 1987, i thought i was having psychic experiences in some roads about trams running along them. i later noticed it was because of the spacing of poles, and them being of steel not wood, along some roads that reminded me of melbourne. so i wasnt having psychic experiences. i never knew perth once had a tram system. welshpool road between shepparton road and the armadale railway, stirling highway and beaufort street are three that i remember having closely spaced power poles. the tramway poles, and trolleybus poles had been repurposed for electricity. i think all these poles have been removed now.
As part of my regular ride I pass through Whiteman everyday and go past the workshops. I had absolutely zero idea that so many trams were in storage and are in line for restoration. Great vid once again Brendan, loving your work
There is a old train track that goes from my hometown Pinjarra and leads to the town my boarding school is in Narrogin. Ran through Dwellingup and was called the Hotham valley train line. Lots of cool stuff there for you to look at.
Really good follow up video to the first tram one. So glad I discovered this channel. So full of interesting things that have made history here in WA and other places. Keep up the great work. 👍
Hey mate- love your work. Have you been to the Roleystone Channels? It’d be right up your alley. Also something on Midland Rail Workshops would be cool; such an amazing place! Keep up the good work cobber.
It was on my bucket list to encounter a tram on my visit to whiteman Park last year... alas there weren't any trams or trains running... but fingers crossed that this time round I'll get to ride one
I came across a tiktok on an old settlement in Kings Park and asked my Dad about it as he did grounds keeping there back in the 70s and my goodness ! Theres old settlements, a tunnel to Parliment house, even plans for a nuclear bunker during the cold war, super interesting stuff
There was a nuclear bunker in Belmont in the 70's and 80's. I went there a few times to work on the telephone equipment for Telecom Australia. Fascinating place. I know where it was, but was told that I couldn't divulge the location because of the Official Secrets Act. They used lamp signal boards (think old manual switchboards), because of the fact that they would still work if an EMP destroyed all the electronics. The rooms complex were also sitting on springs with a gap in case of earthquake.
Congratulations on a very informative and entertaining video, both Brendan and Shane. I have shared this to my Facebook page and recommended it to friends.
Nice video. I wish we kept the trams around. You should try to find some stuff from the old Dizzy Lamb park. I remember driving past the sign as a kid coming down to town from gero and hearing stories but nothing more
Great video. Hopefully it blows up and heaps of people go to Whiteman Park and support the restoration work. Is there anything left in Fremantle form the tram days that's worth doing a video on?
Hey Brendan can you find anything about trolley busses in Perth, I asked my mum when she was alive about trams and she said they were trolley busses and said how do I remember them as I would of only been about 2 years old “alas I do have memory of them, p/s great research liking all your vids🇦🇺👌
@@brendansodyssey .. that'll be well waited for mate .. I remember seeing Perth trolley buses in their last few years of operation running along Wellington Street to Floreat .. probably around 1967.
i think your tour guide missed a tram, W2 441, it was the tram under the clother behine W6 792 (yellow tram outside) i beleve its on its on loan from bendigo tramways
Couple of corrections… 65 trams were lost in the Paddington fire in Brisbane The Melbourne art trams were part of an arts program (i think it was called art on the move or moving art) where artists were invited to paint a tram
The Whiteman park trams are all on standard gauge, including the WA trams. It was decided to have everything run on standard gauge as a lot of the equipment is easier to source. Even though the WA trams used to have narrow gauge they run on standard gauge really well thanks to their wide bodies
You're fast becoming my favourite Perth UA-camr! Not that the competition is super tough, but your quality and topic choice are always so stellar ✨
I stumbled into this channel a few weeks ago and its been one of my favourites ever since!
edit: old infrastructure is cool
Me too, love this channel.

Fantastic to see our history being preserved like this.
Oh thank you! To the society and Brendan :)

Holden and Frost were one of the first "body builders" that built Fords in Australia also. Most Holden lovers don't like to hear that though :P

The channels seem familiar but weren’t on my list. They are now!
Amazing! I wish Perth would make use of good tram systems instead of roads
It was on my bucket list to encounter a tram on my visit to whiteman Park last year... alas there weren't any trams or trains running... but fingers crossed that this time round I'll get to ride one
Check the societies Facebook page (link in description) next time before visiting. They will usually post in there if they're not running that day

Great work by a young Perthite, Informative and entertaining. Keep up the good work mate.
Congratulations on a very informative and entertaining video, both Brendan and Shane. I have shared this to my Facebook page and recommended it to friends.
Awesome job. I remember the Trams in Brisbane when I was a kid in the 60's. I'd love to volunteer but I'm way down in Mandurah.

It's now a paintball park!
Great video. Hopefully it blows up and heaps of people go to Whiteman Park and support the restoration work.
Is there anything left in Fremantle form the tram days that's worth doing a video on?
Yep! :)
Excellent video about Perth history, good job.
Great Video Mate! well worth the watch! 😃
Interesting that the Whiteman Park system is roughly double the length of the Newcastle NSW line.
Should do a video on the Bus Preservation Society, also at Whiteman Park.
I would love too! They were right next door
Another fascinating video. Thanks for doing these!
This was an excellent video
I really enjoyed it 😊
Thankyou.
34 seconds ago upload! lets gooooo! babe new Brendan video just dropped!
Trolley bus used to run from Arthur St Inglewood.
Great Video, love your work.
This is gold
Wicked video! Keep up the good work!
Very interesting- thanks for making the video 👍
Loving your channel!
Perths very own Tomorrow Scott ❤

Loved this video thanks!
You've got to do Atlantis in Two Rocks next.
It won't be the next video, but I was up there filming on Sunday! I even got recognised by some fellow explorers
Why is the tram Depot called a car"barn"?
What a great video you put together
Couple of corrections…
65 trams were lost in the Paddington fire in Brisbane
The Melbourne art trams were part of an arts program (i think it was called art on the move or moving art) where artists were invited to paint a tram
Not these two specific ones
Cool video as well!😁
Eliminating Perth’s trams was one of the worst of many terrible decisions of our historic state governments.
Mind you WA actually has a state owned power company compared to literally everyone else who sold to private.
Agreed…destroying the barracks was another.
Is the Whiteman Park tram system on narrow or standard track gauge .. anyone know?
The Whiteman park trams are all on standard gauge, including the WA trams. It was decided to have everything run on standard gauge as a lot of the equipment is easier to source. Even though the WA trams used to have narrow gauge they run on standard gauge really well thanks to their wide bodies
Do any of trams have 🚃 ghosts ?
