Nice to see you giving a small, private retailer a mention, rather than the usual big boys. These smaller retailers are the backbone of the hobby, and in these days of difficult trading conditions, they need all the help they can get. Thanks Sam.
13:43 visited Sheringham a few weeks ago and saw the notices for this wagon, and placed a pre-order the same day. Actually arrived while I was still on holiday, and nearly beat me home. Lovely little wagon, very happy with it. Although I didn't buy anything during my visit (too busy keeping my 2yo nephew's hands away from everything), the staff were very friendly. Good to see a model shop going strong.
Glad im not the only one who noticed the insane g2a price. Theyre so cheap on ebay for good quality second hand ones, even from retailers with warranty
Sorry to be ‘that guy’ Sam but the expression is “Batten down the hatches” not “batter”. It’s an old nautical term to mean to prepare for bad weather by making sure any hatches on deck were sealed up with ‘battens’ (big planks of wood essentially) to stop water going below deck. Anyway, as you were, keep up the excellent work on your channel, it’s one of my favourites!
Hornby seem to have done absolutely nothing with Oxford since they acquired them. At the moment Oxford Rail's website list lots of products, almost all of which are "out of stock". If Oxford go bust after being cut loose it will hardly make any difference as things currently stand, but if they flourish it will be good for the hobby.
£109.95 for a coach?! It should be made of real wood and iron for that price! As for Accurascale, unfortunately they're in my bad books at the moment. I received my first locomotives from them- two of the former Hattons Andrew Barclays- and both of them didn’t work on arrival. The tabs holding the motor in had insufficient retention, so within the first few minutes of running, the worm drive stopped meshing with the gears completely! The fiddly process of dismantling them to fix this was a nightmare (dyspraxia and small parts, my favourite combination), and then it turned out there was a fault with the coupling rods contacting the running board on one, so it had to go back! Not a good first impression, makes me wonder if I should stick with my other pre-orders from them... Anyway, thanks for a great video as always Sam!
I know - it's bonkers - I for one will be passing at the full price! Yes I've heard a lot about the faulty ABs - I've got mine but probably won't get round to it until the new year - don't blame you for not being impressed... don't remember it being an issue with the Hatton's ones! Thanks for watching - Sam :)
@SamsTrains don't blame you at all, I thought over £60 for a coach was bad, but this takes the cake! As for the ABs, it is a real shame, as they are beautifully presented locos but unfortunately I need them to move! Interesting that you never had the issue with the Hattons ones... maybe Accurascale changed the mechanism design? Anyway, thanks for your reply! :)
Adams was an absolute master when it came to aesthetics. I hope we get to see 563 and 488 in steam together whilst I'm sufficiently above ground to enjoy it!!
What the H E double hockey sticks is the idea of a coach costing more than $137 without lighting! Does it have a motor or possibly a DCC chip? I never liked Bachmann. Jersey Bill
So. Fairy lights trumps accuracy for you guys? The point of these coaches is that they are accurate models of an under-represented but incredibly important Pre-Grouping railway company. The LNWR. The Premier Line, for those that don’t know about this very important period in British/World railway history.
@ i think it’s LED lights and £35 minimum saving that trumps ‘accuracy’ tbh, the hornby coronations have ‘fairy lights’ incredibly accurate and a few new decorating technologies in them and cost about £50 cheaper for a pair… hornby get stick for pricing but bachmann are far worse
Great episode as ever Sam. Bachmann's prices are ridiculous! But at least the ex-Mainline 8750 and 56XX are cheap enough to be semi reasonable. I still cant believe they see fot to reintroduce them though! Also, the Accurascale P class are due 22nd November - I cant wait for my Bluebell! The Beilhacks look great, very tempted I must admit. I cant be the only kne though who thinks KR Models response was unnecessarily brief and rude (re delivery dates) surely?
Thanks my friend - yeah the prices aren't toooo bad, but maybe they could've been better. Should be great to see the Ps back too! :D Thanks for watching - Sam :)
On the topic of Bachmann Mk1s, I’d shop second hand, sometimes Clark Railworks will have a rake of four for £100, it depends on what they get of course. I managed to get a rake, and the only difference between those and my newer Mk1s I got in a train set is that the couplings were closer on the old ones. (And the livery, Crimson and Cream as opposed to Maroon). So, it’s worth shopping around for high quality second hand as opposed to paying almost 60 quid for a single new one. (Although, if you want Commonwealth Bogies you will have to bow to Bachmann’s outrageous pricing).
Thankyou for the update. I would echo Tony Armstrong's comment on the mention of smaller retailers. As previously mentioned thankyou for the 'time lining' of each section so any items that don't people can be easily skipped.
Honestly if you want ancient Bachmann stock try the Clark Railworks stand at a show. There are locos for £50-£80 that pretty much come from the same tooling. Plus i got my hands on a rarity from them.
Just for comparison to a £109 coach: the Lionel congressional dining car is $499.99 USD, the two car add on is $599.99, the four car set $1299.99 (£395, £475, and £1029 respectively) and yes, the thoughts on prices are the same. (Admittedly the coaches are extruded aluminum)
@caw25sha O vision line, so always going to be expensive. But it's interesting. And just a boring add: I earn around 14 times what I did 40 years ago, petrol was around a quarter of the price it is now, so it was expensive back then, and a 100 pound coach in perspective should have cost about 6 quid back then, and it would've still been way too expensive... I still remember my first pay check!
how could you not mention the Midland Class 1P's returning!? thats the one thing i was MASSIVELY excited for in the bachmann announcement as since you reviewed the loco back in 2020 when they first came out they havent been on sale since!
Hi Sam, I'm a sucker for a prairie so I have ordered a dated 4575. My BR black early emblem is a lovely runner so although it's overpriced, my shirtbutton example is secured. I'm so glad that Dapol, Rapido and Accurascale are on the scene. I have a new tooled pannier on order and chose to ignore Bachmanns re-release. At £99 I might have been tempted. £109 for a coach... yeah, dream on. So much to choose from from the reasonable manufacturers. We need and should support our retailers. Christmas wagons... bah humbug. Cheers.
The LNWR liveried coaches are good value. A professionally built and painted kit would coast at least three time more. The old locos though need consigning to history.
I’m worried for KR Models. I’d love to see them succeed because they’re are fairly new company and I really like what they are doing in producing unusual prototypes. The issues with the Fell though, the problems the have been raised with the Bullied Leader and their lack of social media interaction have me concerned.
Great news episode sam! Love the new accurascale snowploughs, and ive got to say the t3 does look great, despite it being efe! Bope your well sam, have a good one :)
Good range of articles here Sam, first off great to hear back from you on my reply to your twitter APT post, onto the models though as I said yesterday on the livestream comment section the KR Bulleid Leader is not to far of now so hopefully I will have that before Christmas, if things had worked out though today I would have received my LNER coronation coaches, I have got coming all 4 packs of the articulated ones and the observation car is coming in the next few days, as I say I could have had them today but unfortunately my delivery of them got rescheduled by the people who are delivering them. Great to see the beilhacks back, I was going to order hattons ones before they shut down and were cancelled as a result.
Thanks a lot David - ahh yeah that was very impressive, loved seeing the APT! That's great too, hope the coaches are good! Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Sounds like Bachmann is pulling a Hornby with rehashing old models at stupid prices. This reminds me of when Hornby hastily churned out their generic 4 or 6-wheel coaches (as well as the torrent of Class 66 models built on an outdated tooling). Anyone would think the big boys don't want a smaller manufacturer to steal their thunder, as it were. I wonder how soon it'll be before retailers have to slash the prices on the rereleased Bachmann LNWR and GWR engines, like what I've seen Rails do for the Class 33/2 and lots of other Heljan locomotives.
1:19 It's worth noted that the 'Tin Cars' have been available for a little while direct from the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways' Shop, which I think is a nice touch from Bachmann in allowing the railway that owns the prototypes to get the first bite of the sale of the models.
Odd to think none now remain in regular service. One resides at Moseley, two on the Golden Valley, one is still on the Ffesterbahn, albeit in departmental service, the final one having been scrapped way back in 2005 (Google 'Festipedia' for details).
I’m certainly thinking about what trains I want, but I very much like the new T3 that Bachmann Exclusive First Edition brought out at their Swanage Railway Club Day.
Great review Sam, I can't help thinking Hornby might be hiding their losses among the different arms of the company (including Oxford) and are 'disposing' of them to appease the shareholders. I think you will find Oxford recovering very quickly as an independent again. And thanks for the heads up on the Smiths Christmas wagon, mine is now ordered 👍
And this is why I never buy new Bachmann models. Those coach prices are a joke. I can't see many people insane enough to buy them until they go on sale. Especially when you consider not just the Rapido evolution coaches, with lights and detailed interiors but also: - Clarks Railworks quads which again have lights, detailed interiors and a set costs £80/coach. - Hornby's LMS Coronation coaches which have been out for some time and you can currently get for £40 which have lights and good detail. - Hornby's new LNER coronation coaches (just got mine today). They're by no means cheap, but a steal compared to Bachmann with lights, detailed interiors and come in high quality boxes. The RRP is now £140 for a pack of two, but you can use voucher codes and get reward points which works out as about £107 for a pack of two coaches (If they have any left). N.B. The RRP for these went up TWICE which is a bit naughty. From £100 to £125 to £140 but are still a lot cheaper than Bachmann P.S. On the subject of coaches as far as I know nobody bought the tooling for Hattons Genesis coaches. (If anyone knows differently please say). That's a real shame but also an opportunity missed if the absolutely insane prices these are selling for on Ebay are any indication - sometimes as much, if not more than Bachmanns new coaches!😬 I'm surprised Rapido didn't buy the tooling with all their new pre-grouping locos which they'd be a perfect match with and a good compliment to the Evolutions.
The tooling for the ex Hattons Genesis Coaches is now owned by Rails of Sheffield and the items originally scheduled by Hattons as "batch 2" are being produced for Rails.
Listing all of those othe coaches is all well and good, but how useful would they be for an LNWR modeller? I'm not justifying the cost, but with the massive number of parts on each vehicle, and the amount of tooling required won't be cheap. Comparing them to the Rapido ones is also irrelevant as they aren't of a particular prototype, yes, they are well detailed, but aimed at different areas of the market. When they were first announced, I was thinking about getting one or two LNWR vehicles to go with my Precedent, but after the price dropped, I changed my mind. Quickly!
Although I already knew about these because I belong to the Bachmann Collectors Club. I’m probably not going to get anything this side of Christmas, but might look for getting some just after Christmas.
I’m looking to get the 517 with Collett cab. It looks very close to the 1400 but only slightly older. Really excited to see how they turn out, and I can’t wait to see the 1400s as well. Speaking of, Sam, you know if you get Dapol’s 1401 plus the Rapido tramcar, you could do a Titfield Thunderbolt running session!
Hi Sam, from the CAD drawing for the Dapol 28xx, working lamps seem to be present. Probably as a result of the development of the working lamps on the new black label A4's
To be honest Sam I was a little bit excited when bachmann were bringing the 8750 back into the range, especially the BR lined verson. I don't know that might just be me lol. Cheers Jasper & Willow
The only thing I wanted from Bachmann with these "reduced" prices from Rails was a 94XX that I had been wanting in GWR Green but settled for Early BR Black. The EFE Rail T3 does look like it will be a solid model though and I think I will end up getting one when they do launch.
For your consideration: 1. I have to check the back-to-backs on ANY new Hornby or Dapol product, seeing some as small as 13.9 mm. 2. Co-Co locos, Bachmann Deltic for example, with rigid frames (non-sprung second axles) are nearly impossible to keep on the track, and my track is VERY strictly engineered and placed. 3. Both Peco and Legacy Bullhead flex track has such thin sleepers that ballasting is nearly impossible, even with "N" (fine) ballast. 4. Uncoupling the tension lock couplers is very challenging, but with the varied ways of mounting couplers, some changes just don't work, for example, Hunt magnetics on Bachmann coaches. Kadee seems to be the only way to go, but are spendy. 5. I have come to rely on your reviews to avoid acquiring the worst turkeys (the Fell for example), and have found reviews of locos I already have to be pretty accurate as to strengths and weaknesses, sometimes explaining my regrets. Keep up the good work!
The question is people wanting to pay for quality or not. B's always come out without any issues whilst all the others always do have quality niggles and flaws. B clearly stands for high consistency and precision. Such comes at a price Sam. Buyers into quality production would prefer B we presume whilst others into economy raise eyebrows at B. Very much the same story for buyers in continental Europe always complaining about high prices for Märklin/Trix, Roco and PIKO, not to mention HAG and Brawa. Flip side is pure high consistent quality and no fuzz whatsoever. Different buyers for different expectations perhaps. Cheerio.
Hardly outdated. Speaking for the Great Western/Western Region, Mainline/Replica/Bachmann designed exceptional models that have been tastefully updated to keep up with the times. New runs of classics are a good thing for people who can't get their hands on older models, or want something with new life in it. It also helps that usually new Bachmann stock has decent sales through the year that can make the price acceptable. Its still way cheaper than a new steam locomotive here in the states!
Interesting round up and market analysis. But I think you are really too harsh on Bachmann on this occasion, in a way which betrays a lack of appreciation of how Pre-Grouping modellers feel about the offer available to them. Committed LNWR modellers have been struggling for decades with a handful of very old kits or having to scratchbuild locos, coaches or wagons, and then in the last few years, the Coal Tank and Precedent come along, but in coaching stock, all we are offered are Genesis and Evolution generic coaches. Then Bachmann come along with ACCURATE bogie coaches, in what looks like is going to be a superb rendition of that sumptuous but almost impossible to reproduce in 4mm scale, livery. And we are ecstatic. We don’t give a flying fancy about the lack of lighting, for goodness sake! Yes, the price is a bit eye-watering, though nobody pays the rrp do they? But they are niche models and VERY welcome and exciting. So we don’t care a jot if the “let’s buy a pretty model in funny colours and with a funny big tall chimney and run it as a heritage special curiosity on our generic 1935-2024 themed train set” brigade think it’s a bit too expensive or useless because it doesn’t have lights. You are also being very inconsistent by suggesting that people should pay thirty quid more for an up to date and accurate Pannier Tank but suggesting that the non-accurate Evolution coaches in LNWR livery are a better buy than the actual, accurate versions. And yes, the re-released G2 is now basically a relatively long in the tooth model, but it’s being released in LNWR livery, making that now a grand total of three, yes, THREE, RTR locos representing the biggest railway company in the world prior to 1923. And the Midland 0-4-4T is also released in a completely new version. So, I say, hats off to Bachmann, for actually pushing the boat out and supporting pre-Grouping modellers. Keep up the good work!
Not *all* through excursion services from the LNWR got the loco change (at Willesden) they should have done. There's a photo of an LNW 4-6-0 which got as far south as *Lewes* before anyone realised the error.
I would 100% pre-order a couple or more of the LNWR 50' coaches if they weren't £90 a pop at Rails. For £9 more, I can get another Accurascale Andrew Barclay. I might wait until Rails discount them more just to get rid of them. I was very pleased to hear that Bachmann are releasing the MR 1P
You might be proved right in time about future discounting, but it will depend on whether Bachmann judge their production run accurately. They’ve obviously invested a fair amount in these new coaches, with four entirely different models and one duplicate number. So I guess they’ll be hoping for a good response from the market. Whether they’ve over-estimated the appetite for them at those prices remains to be seen. Basically, by not pre-ordering, I’ve missed out on models in the past and regretted it later when they’ve sold out on pre-order or soon after. Sometimes, in those circumstances, used prices can be pretty steep or the models only very rate,y come up for sale. The Midland 1P being a case in point.
3:00 I'm really disappointed by the prices of the Bachmann LNWR Coaches, I was planning on buying a couple of the LNWR Claret & White versions & possibly some of the M&GN Brown (a railway that's fascinated me since visiting Great Yarmouth on holiday several years ago), but for £93.45/£84.95 at the retailer, sorry, but no. I thought Hornby's LNER Coronation coaches were on the steep end, £125.99 per twin coach (pre price hike), but I suppose I should have expected it when they started talking about 'Premier' coaches. For this sort of price, forget lighting, they should also come with fully painted period dressed passengers. It's a shame, because they look really nice and if they were around 30 quid cheaper then maybe, but now I'll wait and see if I can get some at a decent reduction in a future sale.
My Canadian Dollars are getting hit hard with all their new announcements! Already preordered P Class, Jones Goods, 57xx class, Class 28 CoBo, 01 class in Bluebell fictional livery, Evolution coaches, and the 48/5800 GWR!
For the Bachmann range, That's good for me, I won't buy a second times the models I already have (Panniers, G2A, Midland 1532, 56xx in 3 examples : GWR, BR4 and 5). I keep an eye on the LNWR coaches, I'm short in LMS passenger stock... Just for the lolz, I've just paid a PKP double level coach by Piko for 46€ + P&P... The 56xx was the first engine I've bought in OO scale back in... 2007. And they did nothing to it since this year ? Bachmann, the champion of reissuing old outdated stuff at insulting price, you can copy and paste this one in your scripts Sam ! The T3 is promising. And hats off for Accurascale to take the Hattons range back on the saddle. I have the pleasure to have one of my preorder for the Hattons Genesis coaches in BR red fulfilled recently by Rails of Sheffield. Superb idea by Dapol to do the 0-4-2 of the GWR, especially when you see the old tat still manufactured by Hornby... I'm interested by their 28xx, would you do a side-by-side comparison with the Hornby one ? By the way, I'm waiting for your review of the Leader, last models by KR had no-go issues for me. As the Rapido coaches, hope they'll do big 4 models, I'm short in LMS and LNER coaching stock. Their J52 is in my crosshairs by now. Hornby does something logical by divesting Oxford Die Cast. We will see for Oxford Rail, that would be a good move for this brand, which seems stalled since 2020-2021.
Here’s a story I thought you’d find interesting, Sam. For Christmas I have ordered myself a NEW steam generator Hornby scotsman from Rails. I just received it but it came with a note from the previous order explaining why it is faulty. Crazy, right? Rails sent me someone else’s faulty model by accident!
I have been told by a very reliable source that the Rapido's Great Central carriages are not historically accurate. Mostly at 50 and 60 foot length which I have confirmed from diagrams/drawings in George Dow's Great Central Vol 3
Thoughts ... [1] Are Bachmann channelling the Mike Ashley era of Hornby? £100+ coaches with NO lighting? Cue the Celebrity Squares "No No" buzzer ... [2] The EFE T3s ... wait, *all metal* ??? Nice. Love in addition the 5 pole motor, flywheel AND extra bearings! [3] Dapol 0-4-2 tanks ... Lined Chocolate? Just thought briefly it would be amusing if Lindt made an actual chocolate version ... [4] Rapido Evolution coaches ... with lighting? Hilarious if they're cheaper than Bachmann's!
I suppose the Talyllyn model hasn't come out in the UK yet, as I have just gotten mine here in the States. It's basically the Skarloey model repainted, but it's only $109 (£86.35) at Train World. It's interesting the Bachmann of America is doing it, given Talyllyn's importance to British railway history--though one might as well if one has the toolings.
Bachman’s announcements were honestly the most exciting. An LNWR Super D, a new Bachmann Midland 1P, LNWR coaches and progress on EFE’s T3. For a pre-grouping fan like me, that’s the sort of news I love to hear.
Exactly. If you are a fan of mucky BR blue diesels and/or just like collecting pretty-looking, quaint locos, then paying those prices for Pre-Grouping models might seem silly. But if you actually crave, accurate, pre-grouping models of under-represented railways, then you will pay the prices.
Honestly so much of this looked pretty good aside from Bachmann trying to sell single coaches for probably about $130 USD, I’d love to get some of these but I don’t really know how the guys at the club would feel about them and I don’t have anywhere at home to run them. That Chocolate lined 517 looks really good if I’m gonna be honest. On a side note since you’ve been reviewing a good amount of American stuff this year have you thought about making a model rail news for the North American brands? The stuff may be much more expensive than what the UK stuff does but I think it’d be interesting to see what you have to say about them
As an LNWR modeller I was genuinely excited for the LNWR coaches, but at that price, not a chance. Needles to say I was very disappointed as £1200 for an accurate rake is just shocking
Can't wait to get the T3 as it my favourite engine in the UK. Will be getting two of the Preservation ones to run. And one in a display case. Would love if Smith's Model Railways did an OO scale as looks well better than Hornby Christmas wagon. Do agree Bachmann needs to stop bringing back old models. But the narrow gauge wagon and LNWR coaches look amazing. But the price is not that good from Bachmann only good one was T3 from EFE rail. But I did like the look of Dapol 517 Class 524 Lined GWR Chocolate mice to see train not in BR green or black. Can't wait to get the Rapido Highland Railway ‘Jones Goods’ 4-6-0 in HR yellow and Port of Par Bagnall - ‘Alfred’ in Yellow (As Preserved).
The question is Sam would you be happy to pay more to buy if from a retailer rather than direct from the manufacturer? Maybe accurascale can’t afford to lose margin to sell it to the retailer so they can sell it for less than the manufacturer. Or best case would be the retailer sells it at the manufacturer’s retail price so makes a margin but in doing so can sell at the rrp
Hope the changes with Oxford mean that their non DCC locomotives become available in Australia. Rare to see an N7 and still no sign of the North Eastern 0-6-0 tender locomotives here. I think more unsatisfied potential buyers here than just me.
Manufacturers think cutting out the retailer will mean better profits. It can be false economy. Once a manufacturer cuts out a retailer, they also pick up the costs of retailing direct. eg dealing with customers, maintaining stock levels (rather than sending them out), direct post instead of delivery to a retailer (Yes, we WILL balk at having to pay post when you've saved the delivery to shops and kept the retailer's margin.). Many won't buy 'sight unseen' even if there are lots of great photos available. Us buyers are always suspicious about whether what we see is what we will get. In a shop we can say 'yes' or 'no' based on the specific one in our hands. Last but not least. Which will motivate a person to buy? A retailer who puts it in our hands or an online photo which might be AI enhanced?
Great video Sam, hopefully these new models will be worth it.I have another question, since I am new to model railway stuff would you say Hornby’s terrier train pack is worth it? I found one for 149.99 pounds
Thanks Ryan - yeah fingers crossed! Yeah I think that's a fair price for the Hornby Terrier pack - the loco's worth about £100, and the Era 2 coaches are worth £20-£30 Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hornby's just released Coronation coaches are a relative "bargain" compared to those lovely but eye-wateringly expensive Bachmann coaches (especially as the Hornby ones have lights). I cannot justify buying either by the way!
Hi Sam, £110 for 1 coach!!! Christ!! I thought £150rrp for one arctic pair of coronation coaches was dear. They have lighting and are great models. Ross
Bachmann at £100 per coach with, no lighting, no close coupling system, still being towed round by the boogies. At this sort of price their models need to move into the 21st century. The European H0 manufacturers have been there for the last 25 years. Their models reach a standard that British railway modelers can only dream of. Once more expensive, they're now almost the same price.
Yep have difficulties with the direct from company- accurascale reeled me in for a second batch 37 gfya but tbh there are cheaper brand new ebay versions donating profits to 37 preservation groups- a moral dilemma!
The Bachmann Pannier is an absolute joke. They didn't even bother to remove the topfeed which didn't exist till ww2. (Ended up removing mine with a scalpel!) The Accurascale ones look amazing and I hope they sell well as they should!
You think that Bachmann would listen to the customers, I am interested in the current UK railways rolling stock and locomotives. When it comes to accurascale, their prices are the same on their site, and the retailers
However if buying direct from Accurascale you also get reward points, though it's only 1% compared to Hornby's 15% and it's nice to support your local retailer if you can.
Well Bachmann has been unsatisfying this month, but I’ve got to say the LNWR carriages are impressive despite the ginormous price which is ridiculous. On a happier note, those GWR 0-4-2 tanks are incredibly impressive and the chocolate one is eye opening for me and that made it had to go for, what do you think?
Nice to see you giving a small, private retailer a mention, rather than the usual big boys. These smaller retailers are the backbone of the hobby, and in these days of difficult trading conditions, they need all the help they can get. Thanks Sam.

Glad im not the only one who noticed the insane g2a price. Theyre so cheap on ebay for good quality second hand ones, even from retailers with warranty
Yeah it's just a joke - mine cost me way below £100!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
most other re-release models are similar too
I got a G2A for around £65 a year or two ago, and now I realise just how lucky I was. The price of the new Super D is just ludicrous.

It was good for the hobby when they were not part of Hornby.
All part of a dodgy deal with having linden Davis in charge. He's come out a much richer man...and will still have his old business
Before Christmas could mean, Christmas 2025
hahaha this is true!
or even 2026...who knows....
bargain. outwith these RTR coaches you are heading to kit built.....
Sorry I missed you in Birmingham and I usually finish work after your stream on a Friday. Great work Sam and thank you for making the videos.
The EFE T3 steam locomotive is just beautiful. There is definitely something about the design of these engines.
Adams was an absolute master when it came to aesthetics. I hope we get to see 563 and 488 in steam together whilst I'm sufficiently above ground to enjoy it!!
Wish bachmann would do a rerun of their quarry hunslets in 009. They were released not too long ago but they are now harder to find than a unicorn.
Absolutely!
I saw 2 brand new local model shop in Stafford.. one was Alice

Someone put £20 in the almost swear jar 🤣 but yeah I agree it suck’s
I know... bonkers isn't it? At that price it should have every possible feature... and by the looks of things it doesn't!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I was so excited for the M&GN set for these but saw at £80 each that’s more than the coronations… which are fantastic and light up
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Yeah second hand makes a lot of sense - good advice!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Yep. I picked up 6 Bachman crimson & cream Mk1s on Ebay all for between £15-25.
Yeah so I hear - crazy new prices!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
There were a lot of new steam locomotive announced this month Sam, let just hope that will be the case next month.
Cheers Jasper & Willow
Yes indeed - I hope so too!

Are they HO or O?
@caw25sha O vision line, so always going to be expensive. But it's interesting.
And just a boring add: I earn around 14 times what I did 40 years ago, petrol was around a quarter of the price it is now, so it was expensive back then, and a 100 pound coach in perspective should have cost about 6 quid back then, and it would've still been way too expensive...
I still remember my first pay check!
Thanks for the info on the Smiths Models n gauge Christmas wagon.....I now have one on order 😀
Well the Evolution carriages were originally a Hatton’s product that was bought up by Rails of Sheffield.
Those are the genesis coaches
how could you not mention the Midland Class 1P's returning!? thats the one thing i was MASSIVELY excited for in the bachmann announcement as since you reviewed the loco back in 2020 when they first came out they havent been on sale since!
8:39 Really excited by the LWSR T3, definitely getting the Adams & Drummond Green versions, but the other two look fantastic as well.
Great news episode sam! Love the new accurascale snowploughs, and ive got to say the t3 does look great, despite it being efe! Bope your well sam, have a good one :)
Thanks Jack - yep so much to look forward to! :D

You forgot to mention Accurascale’s model of the Northern Ireland Railways 101 Class!
One resides at Moseley, two on the Golden Valley, one is still on the Ffesterbahn, albeit in departmental service, the final one having been scrapped way back in 2005 (Google 'Festipedia' for details).
never mind new pannier tanks, i'm holding on to my triang-hornby one, it does the job and looks good,we are all playing with toy trains,
haha very true - they'll never let you down!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I have wanted a T3 for so long and was going to kitbass one from an Adams radial chassis, thank you EFE Rail.
All part of a dodgy deal with having linden Davis in charge. He's come out a much richer man...and will still have his old business
And this is why I never buy new Bachmann models. Those coach prices are a joke. I can't see many people insane enough to buy them until they go on sale.
Especially when you consider not just the Rapido evolution coaches, with lights and detailed interiors but also:
- Clarks Railworks quads which again have lights, detailed interiors and a set costs £80/coach.
From £100 to £125 to £140 but are still a lot cheaper than Bachmann
P.S. On the subject of coaches as far as I know nobody bought the tooling for Hattons Genesis coaches. (If anyone knows differently please say). That's a real shame but also an opportunity missed if the absolutely insane prices these are selling for on Ebay are any indication - sometimes as much, if not more than Bachmanns new coaches!😬
I'm surprised Rapido didn't buy the tooling with all their new pre-grouping locos which they'd be a perfect match with and a good compliment to the Evolutions.
Quickly!
@@Jaymzhatstandthink of them as an investment! 😊

Ahh fantastic - looking amazing aren't they? Fingers crossed they're decent!

Yeah true - but Accurascale's will be much better!

hank you for the Up-date Sam 🙂🚂🚂🚂
The only thing I wanted from Bachmann with these "reduced" prices from Rails was a 94XX that I had been wanting in GWR Green but settled for Early BR Black. The EFE Rail T3 does look like it will be a solid model though and I think I will end up getting one when they do launch.
For your consideration:
Cheerio.
Agreed. £95 for a Continental coach by one of those manufacturers you name is not unusual.
Keep up the good work!
especially when you consider the lining on a coach like that would take in the days to do when building a kit, how much do you value your time at?
Not *all* through excursion services from the LNWR got the loco change (at Willesden) they should have done. There's a photo of an LNW 4-6-0 which got as far south as *Lewes* before anyone realised the error.

The Bachmann pannier is the best runner in my entire collection. If it wasn't at a price of £125, it would be a solid re-release.
Good video Sam over a hundred quid for a coach !! i would expect working everything including flushing toilets for that price lol
My question would be what do you think would be a reasonable price for the lnwr Coaches or bachmanns models
Awesome video today Sam lots of things to look forward to
3:00 I'm really disappointed by the prices of the Bachmann LNWR Coaches, I was planning on buying a couple of the LNWR Claret & White versions & possibly some of the M&GN Brown (a railway that's fascinated me since visiting Great Yarmouth on holiday several years ago), but for £93.45/£84.95 at the retailer, sorry, but no.
Great work sam 👏 👍
My Canadian Dollars are getting hit hard with all their new announcements! Already preordered P Class, Jones Goods, 57xx class, Class 28 CoBo, 01 class in Bluebell fictional livery, Evolution coaches, and the 48/5800 GWR!

Bachmann have been reading the Hornby "how to rip off your customers" manual.
haha I think so too!!

Are you looking forward to the new accurascale announcement 😊
Always!!
Have you gotten your hands on the coronation set? Review coming? Surprised you didn’t mentioned them as they have arrived and they’re fantastic
Nice to know that Daisy and Duck are getting added to Bachmann UKs Thomas range
Aren't they HO scale still though?
Big corporates have overheads and bureaucracies that inevitably get priced in, think British Leyland and how 'well' Jaguar did under their reign.
Yep there was certainly a lot there - and the 1ps are very decent too!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I agree! The price of the coaches is silly but I’m really looking forward to the return of the 1P and T3!!
But what’s your alternative “as an LNWR modeller”? Are you proficient and speedy at painting the livery? If so, good for you!
Hello Sam has there been any news on the Oxford Rail Break Down Crain that was muted about two years ago and shown earlier this year?
Sam.. Maunsell.. "Mauwn-sell" is the correct pronunciation. Christopher Mansell "Man-sell" was a much earlier enginneer.
Health and Dafty, er Safety warning required Sam. I fell off the couch! Having been resuscitated after Bachmann nonsence, I'm okay now.
Oh man!!!!!
Yeah I think that's a fair price for the Hornby Terrier pack - the loco's worth about £100, and the Era 2 coaches are worth £20-£30
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hornby's just released Coronation coaches are a relative "bargain" compared to those lovely but eye-wateringly expensive Bachmann coaches (especially as the Hornby ones have lights). I cannot justify buying either by the way!
$60 or even worse £60 is why I haven't bought a brand new coach since... well actually I don't know if I ever have. They're so expensive!
Have you gotten your hands on the coronation set? Review coming?
Hi Sam,
£110 for 1 coach!!! Christ!! I thought £150rrp for one arctic pair of coronation coaches was dear.
They have lighting and are great models.
Ross
Thanks Ross - yeah it's over the top isn't it... crazy!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Have you seen the size of the box for Accurasacke diesels? I wouldn’t be shocked if the retailers have refused them due to their stupidly large size.
Hi Sam, what do you think of bachmanns small prairies, worth it it or just another rerun of an old model?
Awesome video Sam
Thank you Brian!
@SamsTrains you're welcome Sam 😊 🙏 🤗 ☺️
Yep have difficulties with the direct from company- accurascale reeled me in for a second batch 37 gfya but tbh there are cheaper brand new ebay versions donating profits to 37 preservation groups- a moral dilemma!
With the Snow ploughs, could it be a legal matter that they can only sell them exclusively? Part of the deal to take on the tooling and so on?
The Bachmann Pannier is an absolute joke. They didn't even bother to remove the topfeed which didn't exist till ww2. (Ended up removing mine with a scalpel!) The Accurascale ones look amazing and I hope they sell well as they should!
Meanwhile models such as the 4mt tank engine haven’t been released in literally a decade, with no examples available anywhere, nice one Bachmann…
You think that Bachmann would listen to the customers,
I am interested in the current UK railways rolling stock and locomotives.
When it comes to accurascale, their prices are the same on their site, and the retailers
Yeah absolutely - the whole fake RRP thing is a bit old fashioned and annoying now!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
However if buying direct from Accurascale you also get reward points, though it's only 1% compared to Hornby's 15% and it's nice to support your local retailer if you can.
