That's actually what I was wondering about. I think in terms of affordability and reliability it might edge out the Fitelite belt fed upper. My only question is since it's 556 based would it work with 300 BLK out?
You're tellin me DT started from scratch to design both the 53rd mag and lower, but couldn't figure out how to make a STANAG mag fit the lower without some chincy plastic adapter? Lazy engineering. Make a reliable quad stack mag that fits a standard lower, or make a quad stack lower that also accepts STANAG mags. This is a halfway attempt and will fizzle out.

That's not an insignificant weight savings when ounces feel like pounds while rucking over hard terrain. Hmmmm....they may be on to something.*
The only problem becomes how to carry them. I’m not a fan of running two deep on my chest and just spread them out instead (my current setup accommodates 16+). Guess that’s really more of a “me” problem, but I suppose I could find a way around it. Maybe a slung bandolier off to the side or even a belt rig would do the trick, idk. I could definitely see the utility, especially from a stationary, fortified position. In that case, a couple bandoliers should do just fine.
@@captureoutdoormediaBasically any double stack rig without dividers. Heck, you could probably cut or remove the dividers out of most that do have them. 🤷♂️ But as far as mag retention, you’re probably going to be stuck with bungees or velcro/snap/buckle covers.
The weight savings is definitely huge. You can get two extra quad mags for close to the same weight! Or just have more water…or just enjoy being lighter on your feet and expending less energy.
@@jackjohnson291 I've got a couple mag pouches for AR-10 mags that stack two deep. I wear them on a battle belt at around kidney position, left and right. Something like that might work.
Since the Marine Corps adapted the M27 IAR, maybe they should consider taking the IAR upper and sticking it on a full Auto Quarto 15 lower to fulfill the machine gunner role in a 4 man fireteam. I'm half tempted to kit out a Quattro 15 with a BRN-4 upper and a binary trigger.
Its the future of rifles. The key is the way the magazine is made, which makes it much more reliable than regular quad stacks, no forcing cone to jam it up. Imagine how much 5.7 or 4.6 it can hold. If you transition to using guncotton for propellant that ammunition becomes twice as powerful, make it a longer case and it'll be as strong as an intermediate round. A slightly longer magazine and it'll probably hold 80. Imagine applying these principles to anything in battle rifle calibers (capacity 40, 50...) Ex, a 6.8mm with new propellant and a .223 parent case will have battle rifle capability and carry 60 rounds standard. Use a double shot trigger like an echo or binary and you have enough rapid fire without full auto uncontrollability. Superior firepower without losing volume of fire.
Great system, innovative, effective and affordable but ... the conversion kit to standard 30 round mags is far too fiddly, and if you lose that widget for the magazine release you are stuck 😮 On this point DT should come up with something that can be used on the field, and allow fast switching between Quattros and standard magazines without opening the gun and without having to fiddle with the widget.
It seems like a decent solution for a bump in the night type SBR/pistol when you don't want to worry about grabbing an extra magazine. With that in mind, the question becomes: is it compatible and reliable with 300 BLK (subs and supers)?
@@jsmorefieldIf you’re using 110-115 gr and accounting for the shortened brass, I’m sure its negligible. I’ve never messed with quad stack mags or drums with 300BLK, so I could be way off base on that.

We need someone to give a real mud and dirt review with a little bit of real world abuse thrown in to show this thing is actually reliable before alot of people will spend their money on it.
My question is will they be making any higher capacity magazines? If these are the same length as the 30 round mags and have a capacity of 53 how many could you squeeze in a quad stack mag that was as long as a standard 40 round PMAG?
The quad stack is supposed to replace 2 standard mags. So you're getting 53 rounds to the 2 standard's 60 rounds. 53 / 60 = 0.883 40 round mag x 2 = 80 rounds 80 rounds x 0.883 = 70.667 At a guess I'd say 68 to 70 rounds in a 40 round mag length. Might get diminishing returns as it gets larger, though.
@@Militaryarmschannel I doubt there are reloaders for these mags. So, these will all need to be loaded by hand. I personally like the Israeli MAGLULA, I have one for my AR and one for my AK mags... makes reloading much easier, and its pretty cheap compared to other reloader options.

Not everyone thinks along terms of cost, thank goodness. It is a consideration, absolutely, I can’t deny that. However, there are plenty of other things to consider as well. For starters, you change mags less; you can carry roughly 466 rounds for the same weight of 12 mags (360); etc.. They definitely have disadvantages as well, cost being among them.
When they vetted the system they did so with harsh conditions and full auto. Even before this video I was going to get one. Hopefully they don't get scarse and go up in price after this video.
I see a torture test in this gun's future...at least I hope so. Also, it would be cool to know if it would work with .300 Blackout. Just a thought, but suppressed, it might make the ideal HD weapon. If you can't get it done in your pajamas with 53 rounds of suppressed .300 Black, then you really don't want to be there.
I wish they'd make a stubby "20" or flush fit magazine... in fact if they adapted the tech to the big bore AR mags we could get higher capacity in those too [like a 10 shot short mag or a 20/30 shot standard length mag]
This is more gimmick than the RIP ammo less effective than a DP-12. Imagine having priority extra expensive magazines instead of just buying affordable capable 30 round standard magazines that fit 60 rounds where this joke fits 53??? They 2011ed an AR-15!!! I'd rather buy a quad stack or drum based on simple logic. Makes a Glock switch look logical???
I like the concept, but unfortunately it’s ‘only’ 53 rounds. Not even two mags.. I don’t think it’s worth it just for 23 more rds. Especially when we have Schmeisser 60rds, pmag40 and D60 that are compatible with 99% of the AR we all already have.
It's interesting, and of course I'm all for letting the market decide what is worth buying. But I personally can't ever see myself buying this even though it's not overly expensive. I have 2 40 round pmags, and I would just buy more of those. No worrying about which rifles they are/aren't compatible with. Oh, and of course single stack mags are so easy to load with a maglula......
It’s really cool but really too fiddly to convert, parts to lose. I’d just stick with owning a few D60s. Expensive but work with a normal AR and don’t stick down as far.
Gotta admit, when I saw videos on this at Shot Show, I was intrigued. After seeing your video, I’m sold. BUT? Too bad I live in Illinois and can’t own it, or a lot of other shit! And I don’t see SCOTUS acting anytime soon! :/ And here’s the BUT…. Only concern I have is durability in and with that magazine well. How will it hold up if the firearm, with a full quad magazine in it, gets dropped at a certain angle or onto a hard surface or a boulder if you’re hiking or climbing in a rugged area? It sucks but I’m kind of glad I can’t have one yet and can give it time to let others do things and test it and see what comes and see if anything durability wise, happens down the road.
Speaking of Desert Tech, Have you guys tried out their 10/22 bullpup chassis? I'd love to hear your thought on that piece of kit. I really want to build one out with an AB Suppressor barrel.
Mac please sir can you review the FB Grot?? Especially the bull pub,and if the transforming rifle is practical or an unnecessary gimmick?I think it's gonna blow your mind with it's performance.N o other you tube gunner has reviewed it and it's the coolest gun to come out maybe ever. Your the man for the job, and my favorite Chanel on you tube.I know their hard to get but you can do it if anyone can. I really believe you'll do the best job on such a game changing Rifle.
Who is going to be the first to use this for their 3-Gun rifle? You don't have the length of a P-Mag 40 and the reloads, if you need one, have to be faster. It looks like DT solved the problems Surefire and AK had with their quad stack mags. They don't have the long skinny double stack section at the top that causes the problems.
Lol these guys were probably halfway through designing this turd and the d60 drops 😂 they just act like the d60 doesn’t exist keeps on working then the Schmeisser 60 drops….. they go paint their faces and continue work on the quad stick nobody asked for and will be relegated to Ian on forgotten weapons doing a video on this in 20 years. making dry jokes about it.
I don't see this as dumb. If they are then a belt feed upper is totally ignorant. Having an additional ten rounds may not sound like much, until you are getting thirty back at you.
Cosmetically they should have just widened out the bottom of the magazine, so that standard lowers people already own could run this magazine and still use their standard 30 round magazines... Oh wait... ...That would be smart.
I have already bought the lower and extra magazines back in January. Only downside is that I don't know of anyone manufacturing a loader to help speed up the loading process like the Maglula Bench Loader.
I think this is a fun toy but I don't see the practical point of it. First off versus 2 magazines you are still losing 7 rounds. Secondly sometimes magazines break or get damaged - if one of these mags breaks or fails you just lost 53 rounds. Most vests now can easily accommodate many regular mags as well.
@@PatousMcGillicuddy but if it was only seven rounds divided by a quad stack and it would only be less than an inch longer. **I don't really see that as being a valid argument or at least it wouldn't trump the extra utility of 7 extra rounds.
IDK, it's hard to justify a whole new lower that takes proprietary mags when you can use a standard mag well and a Magpul D60 drum mag that takes 60 rounds.
I think a quad stack, like the Surefire or a Magpul P60 magazine that fits in a regular lower, is still a better option. I like options and innovation, so I wouldn't rule out owning one if the magazines proved to hold up over time and stay available and not become a discontinued item in a couple of years.
Is it really worth it though when we have so many other magazine options though like the magpul D50? I'm kind of surprised DT thinks this is going to make money. Maybe a novelty for those who have the money to burn these days.

The quad stack is supposed to replace 2 standard mags. So you're getting 53 rounds to the 2 standard's 60 rounds.

And here’s the BUT….
Especially the bull pub,and if the transforming rifle is practical or an unnecessary gimmick?I think it's gonna blow your mind with it's performance.N
o other you tube gunner has reviewed it and it's the coolest gun to come out maybe ever. Your the man for the job, and my favorite Chanel on you tube.I know their hard to get but you can do it if anyone can. I really believe you'll do the best job on such a game changing Rifle.
Unfortunately I can't buy that. I live in Rhode Island. Our state doesn't allow magazines beyond 10 rounds.
Just Seeing MAC Fire The D60 Was Worth The Price of Admission 😀😇😊😀😊😀😇
So you get 23 more rounds it costs about $400 with one mag, a mag kit costs $190. I'd rather just buy drums or extended mags.
One of the least gimmicky gimmicks I've seen. But I won't be spending > $500 for a full loadout.
My biggest issue would be weight/bulk, magazine reliability and magazine load time.
This idea has a purpose, who does not like more capacity.
I get if you have a bunch of mags already you will not like it but if not it's cool
Having mags is never preclusive to buying more mags-a fact of life.
**I want one, the only question is do they have any magazine loaders for it?
**Then why did they go with 53 rounds, why not just 60?
They're approximately the same length as 30-round mags, so they'll fit in regular mag pouches.
Sure, I want it. Not proud of that, but I do. Humping hundreds of rounds cross country? Hard pass. I’m not tacti-cool enough for that.
Nope......
Same reason I won't be sold on mag-fed shotties...
Weight...
Is it really worth it though when we have so many other magazine options though like the magpul D50? I'm kind of surprised DT thinks this is going to make money. Maybe a novelty for those who have the money to burn these days.
I can see this being used in the competition world.
They shouldn’t make the extended release black . Small parts has a potential of lost in grass.
If they make lomger mags 65-70 id bite but 53 just seems like an odd number for high capacity
Especially when the Magpul D60 exists and doesn't require a proprietary lower receiver
You would think a “Quad Stack” would be 4x standard capacity for 120 rounds. Who wouldn’t want that?
@@frostriver4547That’d be nice, for sure. The “quad” comes from how it’s staggered in the magazine. Standard mag is double. Two mags makes quad.
Dumb. Magpul 40 rnd mags work fine and don't require a dedicated lower.
DesertTech- increasing MagPul D-60 sales….one stupid lower at a time!
That was fun just watching you burn rounds off. Neat concept also.
Interesting, the only question I have is if it weighs the gun down? How does it feel compared to a normal 30 rounder?
Very nice... Now let's see Ken Hackathorn's magazine!
Ken’s right, you don’t need more than 5 or 6 rounds. 😂
He doesn’t even carry a magazine in his guns, “cause when’s the last time he actually needed one?” 🤦♂️
Where's Paul Allen?
When was the last time you needed that AR-15 thang?
- Ken's logic
Personally id say people love to reload almost as much as they like to shoot their gun so this thing better feel good more than anything right? (Civilian pov)
need some durability testing, usually that's the failure of other ar quadstacks
