I remember having to take all the springs apart and put them back in a couple times (plus gun lube) to get it working right. Glocks are great guns, but even Gustav's Perfection has had issues before. If we strictly limit ourselves to safety issues with Glocks, I can think of 3 off the top: In the early 90s there was a "voluntary upgrade" program covering issues with the firing pin safeties. This was sparked by reports of G19s firing unintended when the slide was released. There was also a recall within a year of that for G19s with a slide defect which could cause out of battery discharges when the gun experienced double feeds. Finally, in 2003 there was a recall for Glock 36s regarding issues with the trigger safeties.
I don't think anyone has yet managed to invent a failure-proof mechanical device. Often times, it takes a cascade of failures (both mechanical and operator) in order for something really bad to happen. But that's just a question of statistical probability. If a catastrophic failure is 1 in a million, but Americans buy 20-40 million guns a year.... yeah.

Sig has been very helpful in ny experience, but you have to be clear about what you are talking about. Luckily the only time I needed CS was when I needed to find out what sights would work with an optic on my P365 that I have had since about a year after they released the platform.
I have seen a vast majority of experiences with the 365 be positive with people like Mickey from CarryTrainer putting thousands of rounds through more than one sample, and of course plenty of others. An instructor at my range has an original P365 and has never had an issue with his.
It still sucks that you guys had to experience this, but am glad Sig was quick as soon as they realized they had a mistake on their hands.

I worked on a S&W sdve that had a similar issue. I used a 500 grit stone and then a 1000 grit stone to add relief (.25mm) to the striker fin that resets the action (protrudes from the bottom of the slide). It solved the issue (hung up on sharp edge/steep angle). Not sure if it's the same issue but definitely looks like an identical issue I had.

    @scottgalbraith6789 Рік тому +78

I've been using and armoring Sigs in a duty capacity since the 1990s, and have significant armoring and user experience with many other makes and models of handguns. I might be considered old school, and that I still favor classic DA/SA guns like P200 series Sigs and H&Ks. Back in the day when Sig Sauer was known as Sig Arms in the USA, we got military/police contract quality guns. This was a time when choosing Sig Arms meant that you got an extremely high-quality defensive tool that rivaled the best competitors out there. After the 2004 DHS contract for P229 .40s, the company decided to change leadership and that is when the guy who destroyed Kimber took over, Ron Cohen. Investors wanted a higher profit return, and the man who could bring that was Cohen. Like Remington, he split the production lines between contract guns, and civilian guns so that the civilian guns were made with cheaper parts, and corners were cut to further cheapen the production process. The classic P200 series guns have become shadows of their former greatness since then. New models have been problematic in their design concepts, and executions. Opening up the P320 and P365, you see many design features which appear as more of afterthoughts rather than concrete engineered designs which leave a margin of over-engineering to account for their extreme use and abuse. The P320 is after all a modification of the P250 to accommodate a striker slide assembly and fire control group, and that boxed-in the engineers working with that platform and its limitations. The use of questionable parts such as micro springs, MIM parts in areas of extreme stress, over-milling slides in high stress locations, and other productions choices have resulted in the diminished reputation of modern Sig Sauer. Do I blame the engineers?....no, they get paid to make the best of poor management demands. I see a lot of new Sig models get used and abused when I conduct trainings, and it seems like every time I see the latest and greatest Sig model, I can point out several glaring weaknesses to the design which I predict that with enough dynamic, high intensity training will fail on the guns. Often times, the operator will avoid performing the training scenario properly when I point out these potential weaknesses ahead of time....lol. Unfortunately, Sig has an overabundance of competition shooter influence running the show these days, and not enough military and police experience which keeps the manufactured product in a more equalized balance between reliability, durability, and shootability. Better to make a military/police contract gun that can be modified into a competition gun, rather than vice versa.

As a Journeyman Toolmaker, I would have to feel that you got one of the rare ones that may have had a parts tolerance stack-up that just eventually couldn't work anymore. This is when mating parts are within tolerance, dimensionally, but one of them is on the extreme upper end, and the other is on the extreme lower end of tolerance. Sometimes this condition can cause an excessive amount of clearance (or lack of clearance) that can cause a problem. This can be even more likely if there are more than 2 mating parts involved and they are all at extremes of tolerance. I've encounter this issue with automotive assembly a number of times.
This is the first time I've heard of this problem and there have been hundreds of thousands of these guns sold, if not a million. I have about 1,000 rounds through mine now so I will be keenly aware now if something begins to feel "funny" with the trigger. Thanks for making this video.

I have a p320 that was doing the same thing. My question is does it have a trigger over travel stop? For me the over travel was adjusted to far out, I turned it in 1/4 turn and it's spot on now. The trigger pull was bringing the sear just to the edge and bumping it on the back or a slight shake would jar it loose. If that is the problem then IMO this is bad and should have been caught in QC. Look and see if there isn't a little tiny Allen screw on the trigger. Could be on the top of the trigger and accessable from the top with the slide off, or it could be on the trigger shoe and accessable with slide off and reachable from the top angled back towards the mag well.

I thought maybe the reliability issues were overblown until yesterday at the range, my well maintained/clean Gen 2 P365 with 400rds through it suffered its first light primer strike on premium HP ammunition that I carry in it. Literally while I was at the range when this happened, another shooter with a P365X (made in in 2022) with 500 rounds through it suffered a failure to extract. I inspected his gun and it was well maintained. He also had proper form when shooting, so it wasn't a limp wristing issue. He was mystified. I'm a former MP and executive protection professional and have decades of experience with various handguns. The new Sig is NOT the old Sig. I repeat, the new Sig is NOT the old Sig. Massive QC issues and steel quality/heat treatment issues under the newer leadership. Don't believe me? Go on Wikipedia and read about all of the lawsuits against Sig right now for their P320 Pistol. I will never buy a Sig again unless it's a used one from the 80s or 90s. I simply cannot trust them to go bang or to not have a catastrophic failure at some point because of their poor QC.

There are a TON of P365’s out there and they still have a good rep. I don’t like Sig much, but I do carry a P365XL and I think it’s a sound design. I suspect the issue is either a worn striker channel liner, as Glock would call it, or some gunk preventing the trigger or sear from completing its travel. It’s acting just like a gun with it’s trigger overtravel set too low. From what I’ve seen, these pistols age pretty well, and are well-made. Better engineering than the P320 for sure.

Wow, that’s crazy that Sig wouldn’t take care of their customers when he initially called the first time.
I’m not a gunsmith, but it does seem to me that it may be a very small metal particle that is causing the trigger to not be fully pulled by the operators finger pressure when intended to have the gun go off.
It may be something in the plunger, or sear, or something very, very small on the trigger bar.
Again, I’m no gunsmith, I’m just giving my two sense and hoping this will help diagnose the issue.

Definitely take out the fcu and look at the trigger bar side of it. Look up under the back lip of the trigger paddle where it hits the full range of motion stop and see if an obstruction is there. Also where it releases the sear could be crud there too. To really clean it take out the fcu because there are lots of small moving parts in that tiny removable module. check inner wall on trigger bar side to see if "burs" or something preventing full range of motion. Agree with you ....not a good situation!..lol. I'm not saying ALL sig are trash but this has been going on for YEARS with these lines of pistols. I remember when they first starting pushing the P3XXX lines it had similar issues and the drop issues. Back then that pushed me away. I figured by now they'd have it worked out and have been considering a P series. As a back up or something to just feel different from my shadow systems (glock). Just to find out no, still having issues. This makes me weary to EVER buy a sig for anything let alone protection.
I don't care who says: "My sig is fine. No issues, x amount of rounds all good." That doesn't matter to me. With the amount of failures that have come from this line in the past x years it isn't even close to a consideration. I'm aware every gun has malfunctions. It's the frequency that's concerning.

In 1992 and 1993 Glock had a recall and a voluntary upgrade program to address issues which could result in unintended discharges. One was a firing pin safety issue which they had to address after reports of G19s firing when the slide was dropped. And the second was to address a design issue with the early G19 slides that could result in an out of battery discharge if the weapon experienced double feeds.
Now, you might go "but SIG is having repeated issues even after their fixes." And sure, but then lets not forget the Glock 36 recall in the early 2000s due to issues with the trigger safeties. The truth is, making a new gun is really hard. And lots of companies have growing pains surrounding new designs. Even Glock's perfection is not immune to this reality. If you prefer Glock, that's fine. But let's not pretend that Glock (or S&W, or Walther, etc) haven't also had issues.

@@theKashConnoisseur The tech isn't new. NOTHING IS PERFECT. (Except Gaston) Yes new things have issues. Striker fire polymer is not new. QC is being cut short. I'm not saying your example is the absolute most recent example but that was about 20 years ago. Your other examples were about 30. I also know the G44 are finicky but as are a good few 22 cal pistols. I also never pretended Glock didn't have issues I was saying I wanted to get something new to change it up from my "Glock". I LITERALLY WROTE: "I'm aware every gun has malfunctions".
(Did you actually read my comment?)
I am pointing out the fact that sig has been "plagued" with similar issues with this line up since inception. At a rate that I would consider excessive. This started in 2014 when the P320 was released in 9mm. So were about to be at 9 years since release and still having drop fires and now shake fires. This is not new tech (Glock kicked it off in the early 80s), this is not cutting edge. These should not be going out to market and should absolutely not be advertised as self defense pistols.

@@lighlotus117 Glocks were still having issues 20 years after they were released, and they also had repeat issues. I did read your comment, and I see that you acknowledged all guns have issues. But you seem to think that SIG must have started with the base that Glock spent 40 years building. News flash: that's not how it works, especially with patents.
My whole point is, if this kind of thing is a deal killer for you and striker fired SIGs, I have to wonder at the internal mental gymnastics you must play carrying a Glock.
What's SIG's failure rate? Can you cite me a source, how many out of a million? No? Didn't think so. All you and anyone else knows is that they had a drop safe issue which they addressed, and that there are individual pistols which may or may not have manufacturer defects. Which is no different than Glock having it's own issues, fixing them, and occasionally releasing individual pistols that don't meet QC.
But go off! You realize Glock doesn't hand out their design details, and they have patents and protections covering their designs? When a gun manufacturer decides to get into striker fired pistols, they may be inspired by Glock, but they are not built off of them. Everyone starts from the ground floor.

Bud. Calm down. The only thing I ever mentioned about glock in the beginning was that I was looking for a change of pace from it. You went pretty hard on pointing out glock faults. That...when they did the polymer strikers was new and kind of lead the way. At least were and arguably are the most successful with it. They had problems. Yep. You got it. And like I said. Occasionally still do. But nothing like you see with what sig has been putting out. Sig does not copy paste glock designs but they aren't reinventing the wheel. Far from it. It's the same tech. Don't come at me with the "What's the source for the defect rate?" No I don't have the exact numbers. I'm an adult with a pretty realistic and rational view on most things. I don't need to. No one should need them it's pretty clear. You don't see people making videos, writing articles or making posts about how their Glocks, since we're so focused on Glock, have been firing on their own or when getting dropped or shaken. There's no mental gymnastics needed. You're looking for a striker pistol you look them up and research. You find Glock has been in use since the 80s and has pretty much reigned supreme in the field especially as of late. Adopted by military police and security world wide. Picked up by the civilian market, worldwide. What's the number one complaint with glocks? Shit trigger. Go to Sig. Pretty solid history. Enter P320 into Google, "Accidental Discharge" is a an actual suggestion. It's 2022, not 1992 or 2004. I'm buying a pistol now. Do i go with the sig and ignore the seemingly high rate of issues because we'll, "They're new in their development, Glock used to have issues to so that makes it okay. Every gun has malfunctions so it's okay that this one is kind of known for it. The bad guy will stop when I have to send this is for warranty."
To me it's a no Brainer. I work in quality, no way would I carry or suggest someone carry a Sig P3XXX series pistol. It's a gun that's 9 years old with the amount of issues that have been coming since release vs a gun that's been out since the 80s that's been through the paces and the rough patches and comes out on top almost all of the time. Maybe it's because sig is winning all these contracts and QC can't keep up. Who knows. Sig does some great stuff. Their striker fire pistols? Not amongst them. Not yet anyways. When it's someone's life on the line I'm not ready to put the weight on a striker sig. Whether you like it or not all these polymer strikers are trying to do is dethrone Glock. But you can't out Glock a Glock. NOT SAYING EVERYTHING ELSE IS TRASH.
Random example. Olight blew up in a guy's mouth and killed him. Guess what light I'm not running? Especially when I can go to something like a surefire/modlite/cloud defensive hell even streamlight. The decision is effortless. Whether I plan to put the light in my mouth or not as silly as that sounds. It's sad but true that it takes a lot less to tarnish a name than build it. Especially and rightfully so when it comes to weapons.
      Take care of yourself man.

@@lighlotus117 If you look in the comments section of this very video, you can see people talking about issues they've had with S&Ws, with Glocks, with Shadow Systems, with Caniks, etc etc. The reason I asked you for some citation of failure rate is to point out how you don't actually have any stats on ANY gun makers failure rates.
When Remington was selling the most guns in the US, they had the highest number of manufacturer defects. Well, now SIG is selling TWO of the top 5 best selling guns right now. As well as massive military and police contracts. But you, and a lot of other people, can't differentiate between individual failures and statistical failures. Not only that, but SIG is under extra scrutiny since it's replacing military sidearms. Every time the military replaces a gun, people shit on the replacement. It's always said to be worse than Old Reliable, until the next generation fully adopts it and it becomes Old Reliable. That's what's going to happen with the P320, just like it happened with Glock, and with Beretta before that, and the 1991 before *that*.
But I get it, millions of new gun owners with no idea about firearms history see a few videos about manufacturer defects that are common to many guns, coupled with a recent voluntary upgrade which is again, common to many manufacturers. And you think this is some inherent issue with a specific design because you lack any real insight on the industry.

I rented a 365XL yesterday from my local range to get a side-by-side comparison with a HK P2000 I own. I encountered two similar malfunctions where I pulled the trigger and nothing happened. After examining the pistol, I noticed the slide had not fully returned to the forward position (about 1mm extruded from flush) so I used my hand to nudge the slide forward. After doing that, the gun fired like normal. Shaking the gun like the OP does in this video might be unintentionally returning the slide to the proper position which allows it to finally activate the striker.

Most 1911s aren't competition guns, but the decent ones are still tightly fitted and require a break in. Due to their tolerances they tend to last a long time. I've had Springfield and Dan Wesson 1911s and all have required break in. While most 2011s ARE competition focused, that was only due to the niche of wanting a high cap 9mm 1911 patterned handgun. Originally pretty pointless in the duty role but excellent in competition (still is). Modern tech has made the 9mm a great defensive round that is now widely adopted. With that said... break in just means working the gun with a few hundred rounds until the slide locks back after last round of mag reliably, and you don't need the strength of Thor to rack the slide. These issues with Sig have nothing to do with break in. No one needs to break in a gun so the trigger works safely... Poor manufacturing/design is the culprit.

Most ppl dont have a platform like you do to hold them accountable.

Guys, you missing the point: this is a NEW SAFETY :)
Sig wants to make sure that after you acquired a target, you still want to shoot, if yes you shake that booty and boom :)

Per owners manual... never, never, never lub the firing mechanism. Was the guns striker removed and cleaned? I have not had any issues with my 365xl. I have seen 1000 round reviews of this weapon and no issues reported.

I have owned the original 365 since a month after it came out. Never had an issue with it. I have several friends that carry, 365s, 365 XL, 365 Spectre, etc. No issues from theirs either.

Same, have a few 320s too, no issues. Ive had two glocks that refused to extract the round. My berretta 9mm sear broke. Guns are dangerous. Its like people think there is a safe gun...

The standard P365 has an insane reputation for quality. Outside of the few guns at launch it is the recommended firearm of many gun tubers including former spec ops guys.

I would like to see if they fix it…
I had an issue with another brand recently, I sent it in and they fixed it quick.
I appreciate your video. This is a great reason why so many people say to put hundreds of rounds through your tool before you carry it.

Wow can't believe you made a video on this. This is the easiest fix in the world.
    Just disassemble the gun.........
Throw it in the trash, and buy an HK or an SW.
    PROBLEM SOLVED.
