Great comment. The current crop of Te Pati Maori and other radicals are lightweights compared to those you are talking about in the first paragraph. Unfortunately, fools can do a lot of damage in a short period time if they get the chance. And even more, long term. They don't care about this once great (but not perfect) little country. And if it keeps going the way it is, neither will many others, who used to care. Go back ten years and I never would have believed how much damage can be done in so short a time, to the point that New Zealand/ Aotearoa, or whatever you want to call it, is standing at the crossroads and staring down the abyss of separatism based on race. The Paramount Chiefs of 1835&40 saved Maori from the doom of utu...they envisaged a better world for their young through all a treaty could offer by way of education, trade and knowledge... a world without endless war and one that would lift their people into the new world of the future - a world where their young could stand proud and have all the British had achieved. These great Chiefs had the strength, courage and foresight to grasp this opportunity for their people and we then saw the birth of our nation... we began as one people building the nation together side by side - Maori and the settlers as one, the work was huge and it was hard but we achieved it through determination, strength and the knowledge we were creating a special country ..a great monument to our ancestors' foresight and a mark we also left for ourselves in time. The same opportunities are still offered today and many Maori proudly leed our nation and we greatly honoured them for their loyal commitment to the foresight of our ancestors. 'To try to divide our nation will create a great disharmony and the push back from a once silent and respectful majority and it will not bode well for Maori. When people on both sides disrespect each other - push backs happen - the results are never good and no one wins. We must always continue to be strong and always be one people, our bloods are intermingled through the love of our marriages and this has been the case since 1840 - our bloodlines are forever intermingled through our love for each other - we cannot be separated and our wise and great ancestors have shown us this... their blood still courses through our dna... blood to be proud of... blood that built a nation. Let the young respect this.. they bring down on themselves great shame when they dishonour and disrespect their ancestors and the very blood that courses through their veins.

Standing together we can be mighty and strong. The best little country in the world. I've been waiting a long time to hear that Māori actually care about Pakeha. It gives me hope for us all.
It is a fact. Not only Pakeha but the many legal immigrants of New Zealand have done and are doing their very best in making this island a great place to live and we duly pay our taxes and rates (if we own houses) in good faith for the government to function. Using dishonest and inaccurate standards in judgement will drag the progress down for the present and future generation.
Maori have always been good to pakeha, the first settlers here were fed and welcomed, there is plenty of history about whalers trading with Maori peacefully. The problem has unilaterally been from the other camp over our countries 180 year odd history. In WW2, Maori soldiers returned home to find their land had been taken and sold, language being beaten out of people, Maori being unable to use their land because the government has it in perpetual leases to this day... and there are way more examples than this. Most Pakeha dont even feel that what their ancestors done was shameful, if anything, they make Maori out to be the bad guys!
@@mooselee902 Stop with this chip on your shoulder and tell the true facts... these are my times and I lived through them. Soldiers returning from WW2 needed work, the country had been stalled and we had to get moving again to feed our nation, land was needed to be developed. All lands abandoned and not farmed or used were BROUGHT UP from Maori and a ballot box system was set up... numbered marbles were put in a barrel and unemployed soldiers amongst them Maori, took numbers and the barrel spun like a lotto draw. The lucky ones got 50 acres of unimproved land and were given a length of time to bring in the land and make it produce or forfeit the right to farm it... they had no money and borrowed heavily from the government for stock and fencing... the kids worked every bit as hard as their parents... often milking by hand 40 cows before walking bare foot 5 miles to school...I know as I went to school with many of the ballot box farm kids... they were dirt poor. Now due to their hard work the land is productive, the Maori have spent the money and the land now gone they suffer memory lapses and say the land was stolen.
True Mana, True respect, True unity, True identify. Together we are mighty, we are strong. Only hate can divide us. It saddens me there are people elected in Parliament trying to divide us.

I'm 72 years old, 6th generation New Zealander, and to me ''pakeha" refers to a NZ European whose family has been in New Zealand since the 1800s. It would be so nice if it could officially have that specific meaning, so that kiwi's of European heritage whose families have been here for generations, could have some acknowledgement, respect and standing. There aren't too many of us left now.
In mutual agreement with all races of New Zealanders I have known and worked with both here and overseas. We are neither Māori or Pakiha. We are Kiwi brothers, sisters and cousins. Both one and the same.

Edit: Sorry, I meant partial ancestry.

Let the young respect this.. they bring down on themselves great shame when they dishonour and disrespect their ancestors and the very blood that courses through their veins.
mmm he would be too good to be a politician but they do need to get rid of the leaders of TPM
As a 54 year old Pakeha I commend this man. Thank you. I was brought up with and alongside Maori and Pakeha and that is the country and culture Ive worked and socialised in my entire life. In the last decade especially I've seen racial division being pushed on us from above and it is incredibly sad to see how many people on both sides have got sucked into it. Stop being angry at your fellow kiwis and look at the people causing the racism and think about why they want us divided. Together we are strong. Divided we are absolutely nothing.

The ones that have past I still carry in my heart and always will. Thank you for your comment as it was how I feel. The kids in my neighbourhood all sorts we had so much fun together and went everywhere together. About 10 of us..We would swim in the creeks, catch eels smoke them and they were lovely smoked. Raid the chicken farm and got fresh eggs, it's funny actually the farmer knew we did this and he didn't mind at all because we only took about 6 eggs and cook them on an old pan and a man made fire as kids did..
