I agree. I was super popular when I lived in Japan and Korea (cause white girl), and my fellow foreign friends called me crazy for being so "picky" and not wanting to further date those "handsome boys" there. Most Japanese men in particular (all in their 20s) I met there were emotionally immature, just as you said. I felt like talking to 14yrs olds. There was nothing they could give me or enrich my life with by hanging out with them, and nothing that made me feel like they were fellow adults. It felt like I was their kindergarden nanny. +Luckeee Legz555 True, but when women realize (as they are finally beginning to) that they do not need to be "helpless victims" and begin to start fighting for their rights of protection from police by working together to change laws, and start fighting against this epidemic, it will slow down drastically. There are several different factors that all combined are helping this disturbing trend to continue and increase, but by fighting for new laws, women's rights, changing the stigma of counseling and mental health, fighting for government backing on these issues, I believe that slowly things will begin to change. But the change must first begin with the people. In this case, it must begin with women, like the Miss International woman, and men who support them, like the man who lost his sister. They can make Japan change. It will take time, but it always starts with the people. In every country, in every culture.

I'm a Japanese man and was stalked by a woman in Tokyo. Such a problem is not so taken seriously because by nature, women tend to be less violent. They usually don't end up killing their obsession. But if both men and women can be stalkers, what is the underlying problem?
Parents do not give enough affection when their children are small. They are not really affectionate people and I guess you can see that if you visit Japan. They never hug or even touch their children here. The worst of all, they never tell their children (or anyone actually) that they love them. Japanese children grow up doubting if their parents are really their parents, because they lack the affection they need or entitled to. I thought so, too. And when I asked around, it seemed that that is a universal doubt that all Japanese people have. It was shocking when this became a classroom discussion and every single student shared the same thoughts!
So when they finally are in a relationship, they tend to be extremely possessive. It doesn't mean that they'd be stalkers after they break up but they all seem to have problems. It's crazy to see your partner acting completely different in private across any culture. But I bet that that is even more different in Japan. Why? People are taught to not harm or disturb anything in nature and it's partially comes from Buddhist teaching. So in general, people act extremely polite in public in Japan. But that means they pretend to be someone else who is ideal to the society. They are really tired to act to be someone else (especially in modern society with all the pressures) so when they are with their partners, it's finally time to act like him or herself. In other societies, you can ask anybody what you need. But in Japan, they don't. In fact, they refuse to ask for a help or even express their feelings. Instead, they turn to their partners and ask them all their needs... But don't forget, he or she is the ONLY PERSON they ask the favor for! So when their needs or demands are not answered, they get really offensive. "You are mine and why can't you give me that?" That's what they ask. Why is this possible? It goes back to the problem of the parents not giving enough affection.
Here, people do not know or understand what love is. Parents don't teach them what love is. They don't even act like they love their children so what normally is "given" and "felt" during the childhood is not present there. So the children grow up without knowing love and end up being really "thirsty" for love. That is why they become too possessive and obsessive.
Just imagine children asking their parents to give them affection, and not receiving it properly. And when they are adult, they ask their partners the same but with the adult attitude and demands. It's worse than kids.
I guess any society has its problems but modern Japan is having numbers of major problems. That's what happens when a traditional society adapts foreign ideas, system or/and "modernize" itself too rapidly. That is not a real evolution of a society. I hope people talk more (that is the most difficult part here) and confront the problems as unified power.
I don't know if I explained the underlying problem here but perhaps you have a better idea why there are so many stalkers here.

    • @cralix85
      @cralix85 7 років тому +76

I am the CEO of a private investigation firm in Japan.
Stalking is an issue that cuts both ways and is a frustrating issue for those of us in the PI industry. These stalkers are likely to hire us without telling their true intentions. We also struggle to determine if the customer is a stalker because the identity of repeating stalkers are always protected in Japan. The obsessive human rights protection policy in Japan may be the source of a problem in this matter. Additionally, many stalker victims are young females who are not rich enough to hire PIs. So they can’t get the protection they need.
When it comes to parental child abduction matters, Japanese mothers often make fake Domestic Violence accusations against the fathers to simply justify themselves and separate their children from the father. In such cases, females take advantage of the social issues on their benefit.
In short, stalker issues are complicated, a hazard to the Private Investigations industry in Japan.

I have never been stalked, but I used to receive obscene phone calls from strange men who got their jollies that way. I found the perfect solution: silence. Don''t speak, don't threaten, don''t cry, don''t blow a whistle into the phhone, don't hang up. Just sit there and wait. It's so funny to hear them run down into uncertainty, then "hello? hello" and finally hang up. The same man never called again. That method works for unwanted commercial solicitors too. They get tired hearing themselves talk and hang up.

After watching this and the show Obsession: My Dark Desires Ive learned three things...

    3) the identity or feelings of the Stalker are always protected.
    SMH 🙄

    • @SearchOddiN
      @SearchOddiN 5 років тому +6

      1) Having no laws against or ways to prevent stalking or any crime, doesnt mean that the police or the system its useless. (In Japan I think its illegal to have a taser or mace with you.)
      3) The identity of a perpetrator is protected because people might look into the family, relatives or friends of that person and retaliate in a vigilante manner. Also, to protect people with the same name, in asian countries is quite normal.
Your 2nd point, I just dont get it. "Believe", is such a strong word when it comes to judge a situation that could change a party's life. Just to put an example, insurance fraud is a pretty common thing in asia. According to your point, every person that claims that they are the victim of an accident or they demand benefits because they were negatively affected by something at work or while being in a hospital; ALL these claims/victims should be 'rewarded' with justice, money or the accused get years of jail for something they didnt do? Do you see how counterproductive that statement is?

Have you not seen the lengths community leaders in Japan are going to just to promote the status of women in Japan? Not to mention all the changes big companies are making to their employment processes so that more women can have options in life. I'm sure your question was rhetorical, but I think it's because women have been considered the property of men since the dawn of civilization. First a girl is the property of her father, then he marries her off and she becomes the property of her husband, and in old age she becomes the property of her son. It wasn't until the late 19th century that this view started to change. We're trying to undo over 5000 years of a tradition in a few generations. The ideology is harder to break in heavily male dominated societies in the east, not just Japan. I hope we can see a change in our lifetime.

My heart goes out to the man who’s sister was killed, I completely understand feelings of guilt but he has to know it wasn’t he’s duty to deal with the stalker it was the duty of the police! If he would have taken things into his own hands he would have probably been the one to get in trouble with the stalker being free to continue with he’s horrid plans. More needs to be done for both the victims and the stalkers, mental health help is crucial for both parties.

i wouldn't say it doesn't matter, cause it does, and so does defending yourself... both matter to bring down the amount/percentage of people who feel entitled to some one else and can't be cordial after rejection... of course there will still be a few but if the gov and police are on board to actually punish ppl doing it and schools enforced that the behaviour is bad and will get you a record and jail time i think more would opt not to do it. while knowing/ seeing behaviours will help you report it like some of the stories the police didn't help after the men were reported. after that what else is there to do?

I grew up in Japan. I was 13 years old when I moved to where I am now.
One major reason for my move was a fellow class mate who made my life very hard to live.
He would stare at me during class through a reflection in the ceiling, show up to my fathers work and ask for me, and take part in many other stalker-like behaviour. When I asked my teachers for help, they just made light of the situation.
I had not heard or thought about him in over 7years, until two week ago; when he tried to add me on Facebook.
Stalking is a big problem in Japan. The authorities normalize stalking, and there are not enough support systems for victims.

Usually they try to get my attention but I mostly ignored them or told them I'm busy. I show them no fears and just mostly ignored them. No emotions, no aggression. Just straight out ignored them until they are bored. I walked pass them, and go on with my daily life and they get bored and the move on.
What I notice stalker harass you if you are angry or scared. They feed off of your emotion and fears. They want your attention they want to control you in someway. If you go into hiding and get scared they control you.
Even a couple of time some stranger was stalking me in a store I circled around just to make sure if he was following me. He was so I turned around and stare him straight into his eyes and and ran away.
These predator feed on fears. And if they know you are scared they will stalk you.

We also viewed girls/women as a people just like us. It is just that sometimes I think, without a sense of 'owning' that woman we wouldnt even mind being cuckolded. And we (possessive men) also hate being cheated on. Some of us would rather killed the woman we loved so much than seeing her being with someone else.

Most women detest being cheated on, too. It's about dishonesty, not ownership. I sure wouldn't like it if my boyfriend slept with another woman but I sure don't feel a sense of ownership over him. So no, you don't 'need' a sense of ownership over another human being in order to appreciate and value the covenant of a monogamous relationship. If what you say is true and there are loads of men out there like that, then what women need is a much better set of lessons in how to avoid these men like the plague. Because you cannot simultaneously love someone and feel ownership over them.

Japan is a very safe country for women, especially in comparison to western nations. They do have other gender issues - it is still a male chauvinistic society. Japanese men generally prefer submissive women. It is one reason why white men are very popular with Japanese women - we are from places where confident women (and female empowerment) is far more prevalent.

People have always thought that. Think of the traditional Western marriage ceremony. First the man approaches the FATHER of his intended and asks "for her hand in marriage". Then if he agrees, he walks her down the aisle and gives her over to her new husband.

Rudolph Rudolph and every country has its own context why certain problems come up in the very first place, so to learn each country's background story is humbling experience where we can't just be judgmental towards countries we perceive having harder times than us.

Elena B. A little girl can walk in the deserted corners of Tokyo or any other Japanese cities and not get harassed or raped in japan. The same cannot be said in countries like Brazil, Mexico, India or even the United States. There are far worse countries than japan for women.

I have had stalker problems also.. but I never turned to police nor authorities. My step-father is a cop and most of my family is retired military. I was raised to be fiercely independent and dealt with a lot of abuse growing up after my parents divorced and my mother started dating another man. Because of this & my desire to break out of my own chains of fear and doubt, I began studying self-defense and even used my anger at being betrayed & hurt by those I had loved most to fuel my fighting instinct. Now, stalkers and violence no longer have any power over me. In fact, many violent men and bullies avoid me. What I have learned is that being afraid of them gives them power over you. In learning self-defense, cultivating a fighting spirit, & now studying Wing Chun Kung Fu.. I have managed to cultivate a warrior's spirit within me that seems to mitigate the same terrifying scenerios I once ran & hid from. I feel that if more women were to cultivate within them a warrior's spirit and learn to defend themselves, such over-bearing men would have less power over them. I am not stating this to say we should meet violence with more violence.. but if one's life is on the line I feel it is better to know how to fight and defend oneself than to simply depend on others to protect you. I am sorry to hear that this is becoming an increasing problem in Japan and it pains me to know that many people have died as a result of this.. I truly hope that an answer can be found. Empower the victims. Rehabilitate the perpetrators. No one is below anyone else.. We are all equals. It is wrong to believe that one "owns" another.. and I am certain that there are male victims of stalking as well- I wish I had the power to solve all the world's problems.... but alas... I only know what works for me. 😢
