In the beginning, all life was once blended together.
Beasts, serpents and dragons ruled the land.
Over time they evolved, and with intelligence, civilisation began to establish itself across the realm.
But one day everything changed, when an outer god, called the Greater Will, sent a golden star bearing a beast into the Lands Between, which later would become… the Elden Ring.

Thank you for your video! I’ve seen other lore/story videos but they are often 30-40 minutes and so full of details that it is hard to put all the pieces together. I wish I had watched this video first as now I feel like I have the big picture and can handle diving into the details!

I have a head cannon that every one of these types of games are connected in some way be it from a different point in time on a different land or some type of dimension/ realm.
What I’m trying to figure out is how would somebody even learn all this. Unless I’m just absolutely oblivious to what happened in game, i don’t recall any sort of story being told..
I imagine you might have figured out the answer to your question by now, but it's from all the item descriptions and tiny bits of dialogue. You have to go into conspiracy theorist-levels of effort to lay out and connect all the threads in these games...
@@alexharrison2743yeah but this seem like alot, like a fk ton just to have in item descriptions. Like they couldn't of used more npc, time travel, cutscenes, or etc. Like they water hose you at the beginning and really don't elaborate much as else, even the darksouls games I pretty much had an understanding of who I was, what my goal was, and who most these dudes I was killing were and why I was killing them.
@@darkandedgy1457 not to boast but I didn't really have much issue with keeping an idea of who each person was/how they fit into the overall lore. I too prefer my storytelling to be more clear, but this has become FromSoft's USP, people don't(/shouldn't) really go to FS games for story-driven games, they come for the combat, design, and atmosphere.

Good summary. Thanks for sharing. Still have a lot of lingering questions though. For example, you say Marika shattered the Elden Ring in defiance of the Greater Will while Radagon tried to restore it, implying that he is still loyal to the Greater Will. As a Tarnished, you've been tasked by the Greater Will to restore the Elden Ring. Why would Radagon and the Elden Beast fight such a person? I would think Marika would fight you instead.
Marika is the one who awakens you with her grace. She is still a god and trapped in the tree and still has influence. You are to get the Elden ring and be Elden Lord for her. Though your character decides the fate of the Elden ring. Thing of the Elden ring like a more complex infinity gauntlet sent to earth by the greater will and controls aspects of reality
@@Andy-qf1kc I don't think this is supported by any lore as far as I know, but I always headcanon Melina as an aspect of Marika's consciousness that has managed to escape being bound within the Erdtree. Hence her being able to have the runes you find/gather strengthen you, is non-corporeal, and is willing to burn the Erdtree

The lore in this game seems really damm good I love it! I don't have this game as yet but hopefully one day I can, been watching a lot of vids on it so I kinda have an idea of it but not lore wise so please continue to do more lore vids on it and hopefully you can do an all endings explanation when the time is right, another great video mate!

I love the lore jump of "the burning of the tree was enough to have the tarnished hero transported to a region called Crumbling Farum Azula". That's a very generous way of saying "they just started teleporting you around and it makes little sense." And where was Godfrey this entire time - a tarnish who was still exiled, I presume. Why go back and fight for or defend the order that booted you out?
Also, if you're there to repair the ring, wouldn't that be what the Elden Beast wants? I thought Elden Beast was the representation of the greater will, and the greater will is who trapped Marika & Radagon inside the Erdtree. I don't fully understand why it fights you (lore wise...).
Wasnt it cause all the elden beast wanted the shards of the elden ring to themselves. (im not really sure this is just what i remember)

Almost rage quitting the game after 4 hours. Stopped playing for a month. The first advice i followed is “just explore and do what you want”. But started playing again and watch some videos to improve my build. Now 40 hours in game and just killed godfrey and morgot in one try. Already feeling sad if the game finishes
After studying the lore for a few hours to get a solid grip on it, I can conclude this this the best summary of the plot on UA-cam.
I spent a good few hours way back 9 months ago when I first finished the game, trying to make sense of Elden Ring's plot, and deciding which unknown bits to headcanon and how.
My girlfriend now wants to play Elden Ring and will surely have lots of questions, so I'm refreshing myself on the lore and story explanation. This video beats any others out there hands down - it's chronological, it's clear, and manages to condense the ridiculous amount of lore down to that which is actually necessary and plot-relevant (goodbye crucible knight jargon)!
Knowing which bits of lore to bother with and which aren't necessary or plot-relevant must have taken so long, so thank you NGN!

There is a way where you can save Melina from turning into a marshmallow as well. One of the secret endings
It seems very odd that the same greater will that bestows you with the grace to become elden lord also bars you from repairing the ring it through the elden beast and erdtree thorns.

I heard somewhere that Melina was the third child of Marika and Radagon, and that the three types of butterflies you can find in the game represent the three siblings.

I fucked up and accept activated the Frenzy Chaos ending. Luckily I also just happened to do a huge majority of the questline that lets you reverse it
Imagine if this game had more dialog with npc's, a journal and character index. It could have helped carry the story so much better.

where do the "fingers" fits in the story?
No way you can convince me you get this story. I think it’s as muddled, convoluted and up to perception as possible to be a reflection of the worlds take on religion and how many holes there are in each one
It was explained great but I’m still utterly confused.
When you explain it like that it makes more sense at least, still very thin and featureless, better than the explaination the game gives you that leaves you going "who and what am I supposed to be?" and "why do I have to do this?"
I think the majority of players literally just like hitting things...but it does get boring very quickly 😒

Literally at the last 2 bosses…. Got the second of them down to a few hits know I can beat it, but man the pacing of this game towards the end just dragged on, the annoyance of having to travel from the sites to the boss room beat the one boss which I know I can do every time but hopefully not waste items etc etc point is they could have chopped 1/3 of this game and used the stakes of Marika so much better. Honestly don’t know if I’ll bother with beating it lol
Overall, great video. A few questions that I've been wondering.
How did Marika give Malekath the rune of death before the Elden Ring was shattered?
And how does Ranni steal just a shard of this rune?
If Marika and Radagon are the same person by this point, why would Marika shatter the Ring and then Radagon immediately try to repair it?
Marika, Radagon, and the Elden Beast are at least a loosely formed analogy to the Christian Holy Trinity. They share a spirit/soul but are individuals with their own motivations.

1/2) marika basically took a piece from the whole elden ring.
let's stay I have a picture made of many images, I can take out one of these images without destroying the whole picture, although it being altered, which is how marika took out the rune of death from the bigger rune that is the elden ring, instead, she later destroyed the whole picture.
as for ranni, the she took one piece of the images that create the picture, basically a piece of a piece.
3) marika and radagon are two absolutely individual entities, you can see this very obviously but radagon personality, such as his passion for knowledge or how he actually loved rennala (golden order greatsword), making them fight during the shatter.
tl;dr Saurons ring shattered and all his kids got pieces of it but refused to work together to repair it to become the new sauron so you as main character kill them all for their shard and become sauron.

Why would you wanna repair the Elden Ring? When it seems like some far of god, sent the Ring and its avatar / its minion to take over the world and enslave everyone into worshipping it.
Why the hell didn’t the game explain any of this? Can’t believe I beat this and spent over 100 hours on it and didn’t learn any of this story. That’s bad video game design I’m sorry.
Is it tho you spent over 100 hours on it.Theres so many games I stop at 4 hours in. But souls games always end up getting at least a few hundred hours from me .Also every souls game has a hidden story and let's you piece it out if you want too. Some people simply just play through it.
@@saltystrawberries7009 I have to agree with AJB. Everyone stuck the game out because of the actual Gameplay and exploration. The story design is terrible though. Definitely could have benefitted from a journal and character index.

good editing but like, this is honestly wack. Waaaaayyyy too much filler and bullcorn, too many characters that really don't matter. I was interested in Elden Ring until i learned about its lore. this shit put me to sleep
