    well done Kenji, we are all behind you. Sometimes as a doctor, it takes actual confidence and effort to slow down and to see what you really want and to experience the life of helping people as well as doing the things that you love the most. Such as seeing friends, spending time with GF and going to the gym, as you said. Keep going Kenji some day you will find your natural balanced rhythm with being a doctor and your personal life:
    #keep motivated
    #take your time and fall forwards in life not backwards.

    You're such an inspiring person! I'm a third year medical student, so I find your videos really insightful. Thank you for making these videos. I hope you have managed to restore your energy after so much work!😊

    As someone who did loads of locums as a HCA for the money, I understand you, I even got caught dozing on a shift because my brain could literally take no more

    Every time I hear someone say Doctors are rich and they don’t really care, I can honestly say my face goes red. I have stood up and said, they deserve every penny. What people seem to forget is the amount of time you spend in Uni and then you start at the bottom of the ladder and work your way up. I say congratulations to people like yourself, you’ve worked and do work long hours, that’s dedication in. My book.😘🇦🇺

    Taxes are crazy in this country, punish hard working people.
    Reg here, plan to be long term locum in the future.

    I really appreciate the honesty Kenji as a med student who knows very little about the reality as a FY doctor in the UK :)

    Wow, Locum doctors in the UK make 40 to 50 pounds per hour? Here in the US Locum physicians make between of 150 to 200 USD per hour. After you take your 60% taxes (working 60 hours a week) there's less than 52k to live on for the year? That's less than nurses' salary here in the US. Either doctors here are overpaid or doctors there are underpaid. Maybe both.

    I would really love to hear, really truthfully, how bad medical school really is?
    Nearly all the videos i see is people saying its horrendous and impossible to see friends or have hobbies.... It has put me off

      Medical school is great in my opinion. Definitely still have time for friends/ hobbies. Being a doctor is the difficult part where most of us struggle with that!

    Maybe create a company and your pay would then just pay to corporation tax on the locum earnings? I feel like my friends who are pharmacists were doing that when they locum

      Good point! Although the stopped doctors from being able to do this recently. Your tax for that is automatically taken via PAYE

    Hey mate, I’m a 4th year med student. I’m just wondering, I’ve been told that I can just do my FY1 year and go straight into locums. I’ve also been told I don’t have to do my FY2 ever as I will be fully registered after FY1 and can work anywhere.
    Are these statements true?

    • @DoctorKenji
      @DoctorKenji  2 роки тому

      Hey! You technically can locum only as an F2 but of course that would stop you in your training. In my understanding, a lot of countries would expect you to have had 2 years experience in your home country

    • @electri2024
      @electri2024 2 роки тому

      @@DoctorKenji hey, thank you for the reply. So just to be clear, I can technically become a Locum FY2 doctor after finishing my FY1 year and then continue my training once I decide to stop being a Locum doctor? And when I said “work anywhere” I meant anywhere in the UK, sorry I should’ve made that clear.
      Would really appreciate if you could answer this too.

    Hi, a bit late to the party. Great video! Do you mind sharing what trust you work at? As this excellent locum rate might become a factor when considering where I want to go for foundation training

    Hi Kenji just wondering if your locum shifts are in the same specialty you are currently working on (paediatrics, geriatrics, etc.) or can they be in different specialties than the one you're currently on in your day shifts?

    • @DoctorKenji
      @DoctorKenji  2 роки тому +1

      The rule is you have to have done a job in that speciality before to locum so I’m doing it in paeds :)
