Frigidaire Fridge Not Cooling and The Easy Fix
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 лип 2024
- I have a side by side Frigidaire fridge that stopped cooling but the freezer works ok, everything was still frozen there. The control LED was blinking an H1 error code. At first I thought it wasn't cooling enough because we left the door open too long but the temp in the fresh food section kept getting warmer so I had to do some troubleshooting. I could hear that the fan in the freezer was working, the one that is supposed to blow cold air into the refrigerator compartment. From that I knew that it is either a stuck damper or the damper motor has failed. In this video I show how to take out the control assembly that has the damper in it and how I "unstuck" my damper flapper. It was frozen to the damper motor housing.

Thank you, you are good instructor, I appreciate you
God bless you and your family
You are awesome presenter and helper! Best instructions ever- My husband just repaired our frigidaire with your instructions! Saved us from going out to buy a new one today! I can't thank you enough!
This is the second time your expertise was the thing I relied upon to fix a problem. The first time, it was my AC compressor motor. Thank you for posting your invaluable videos. And, the joke was great. Best wishes!
Dude you are soooo spot on …..came to the ranch electric was out and finally elec company turned on then the fridgedair freezer worked but not the refrigerator side. Did exactly what you recommended and it returned back to normal….you da man!
Mines is happening like that now. Power went out a few days ago. Came back on and the exact thing is happening.
GREAT VIDEO!! Finally, someone that Uses A Good Microphone, Volume is High Enough to Hear! And you can SEE What He Is Doing!!! BRAVO!!
Thank you so much! I've been looking around for a solution for 2 days and finally got to your video! Boy did you hit the nail right on the head! It took all 5 minutes and I'm done.
Your video was the first one that helped me with my fridge problem after watching countless videos on the subject.just wanted to say thanks
This is why your channel is so popular, helping people from spending a fortune on a repair they can do themselves with your tutoring.
It's nice to hear that! Thank you. If my videos can help people save money, I am happy. 👍👍🙂
I wanted to thank you for your video. This exact thing happened to our Fridgidaire Gallery Side By Side fridge/freezer. We bought this one used on FB so we immediately thought "well, we got our monies worth...time to pay up for a brand new one" but then I watched your video and I felt for air on the inside of the fridge and there was NONE (our model didn't require engaging the door/light switch to check this). I came across another suggestion that said to defrost the entire fridge for 24 hrs and so we unplugged it, unloaded everything into ice chests and left it open for 24 hrs. The following afternoon we cleaned it up real good and plugged it in and it took about 30 min or so but it was working fine. We are on day 2 and it's still good! If it wasn't for this video, we would have immediately purchased another fridge. So again, thank you!
Thank you so much. My fridge did not cool after a power outage. The damp door motor was fried. I was able to fix it in less than 20 minutes, but not without this video. It would have cost me over $300 otherwise.
...a brief power outage was what caused our motor failure too.
We had the same problem with our Frigidaire side by side. No air coming out of the vent, Frig. setting kept going down to 1 or H, and was getting warmer inside, 60 degrees. So my wife was checking out the UA-cam Videos, and saw the picture of the digital readout box on your Video, clicked on your excellent detailed Video, and we gave it a try. There was no air coming out of the vent, so we took the screws out, unplugged the 2 wiring harnesses, took the unit out, pried open the door with a screwdriver, plugged everything back in, put in the screws, and we've been watching the Frig for a couple days, and everything seem to be working fine. Thank You, Thank You, Thank you for the very detailed Video, you "Saved the Day" for us and we Truly Appreciate it. We are now Subscribed. Phillip & Joyce.
Thank you, brother. Your explanation and demonstrations are excellent as tutorials. I hope you and your fridge stay cool, my friend.
Great video. Nice clear camera work, clear step by step instructions
Very, very good step by step instructions on how to do repairs on all households equipment, love it.
Thank you! Glad you liked the video.
Have a wonderful weekend good sir! 👍👌🙌
Today Sunday, freezer ok but no fridge, Sunday is not a good time to get a repair man, but who needs one when we can get your help! Well done, same problem solved because of your great well done info and video, wish you good luck for all your projects:)
Thank you for posting this! I followed your instructions and our fridge is working again!
Thank you so much for this video, this is what was exactly wrong with my fridge, because of this video, I was able to fix it and save a lot of money....thanks a million
Thank you so much for this video. My Frigidaire refrigerator has that exact problem. I was about to call a repair person. Thanks to you I fixed it myself. Now I'll keep a check and see if the motor is working. Thank you again.
Great vid!! I like the steps u used. Your camera person is a gem, and a keeper. I noticed the fridge was clean and well stocked. Another plus!!
As others have mentioned, blocked or ice buildup in the return vent can also stop the air from flowing into the refrigerator. If you open the freezer door and then air starts flowing in again, your damper is ok and you should unblock the return vent then look into defrost and/or drain issues. The damper is the more common failure on these units, but definitely try opening the freezer before ordering the part. Awesome job on the video. Lots of great info, clear instructions, video quality 👍
Outstanding instruction. Bravo.
Where is the return?
@@bsweitzer3 mine flows air with freezer open to. Did you find return vent?
100% just saved me a thousand bucks!
My fridge threw the bad damper codes....replaced the damper....seems to open and close....but now is freezing over the freezer coils anytime we let the fridge run. Starting to think the damper errors weren't what is really wrong now😢
Excellent video and demonstration. I did not have an issue however watched for learning purposes. Wonderful sense of humor too! God Bless!
Really like these home appliance repair/troubleshooting videos!
Awesome! Good to hear that since I have been doing more appliance videos than HVAC videos lately 😅
Have a fabulous weekend Mr. T! God bless you and yours.
Nice repair video Jay, always look forward in seeing what your up to and repairing these days!
Thanks Dan! Glad to hear that! Hopefully things will get more interesting soon. I have two mini-splits on order and have been working on some roof top units. I hope to make some videos out of that later.
I can’t say thank you enough! All the sudden my Frigidaire started beeping and showing the h1, quick google and hit video and your video was the first one I hit. Followed your instructions and presto there was a tiny piece of ice and water which was the ice that melted. The air started blowing as soon as plugged it back. The flapper I’m not really sure if it opened on its own but I made sure it was open before I put all the screws back. So at least it’s not beeping anymore and there is cold air blowing so hopefully this solved it. Will wait and see in the morning if it continues to work. 🤞🏻
Excellent instruction and insert shots to further explain the smaller details. Thank you!
You are so good at fixing things.
Straight stabbed open my damper hole when you showed how it looked.
Instant cold air.
Thank you soo much. Been a rough 2 days after tornados here in Louisiana.
...saved me a huge service call!...same make/model/symptoms/error code! A new damper motor was $100+ though.
Excellent directions and great camera work!
Exactly what happened to mine. Unfortunately it might be a motor going bad but your video was very instructive and easy to follow. Thank you!
Thank you for posting this. I had the same issue and I believe it has not been resolved thanks to your help!
Awesome video!!! We were just looking for a used replacement fridge until I wanted this video and had same problem. Thank you!
Thank you! This video was super easy to follow and fixed my problem.
Thanks for the video. I fixed my refrigerator following your instructions.🎉
You'd be a great instructor at a Community College / Technical college.
Thank you Lieutenant Lawson! I appreciate the thought! 🙂
God bless you. I thought we were going to have to get another fridge😭
May the Universe repay you double for what you do. Thank you so much for this video!
You would be a great teacher at a HVAC/ maintenance men school!
Thanks for the video! I wound up having to replace the motor/damper assembly completely, but $120 sure beats $1400+ for a replacement fridge.
Hi I am from Trinidad. My name is cheyanne.I watch all your videos.I am doing a ac course.and I am learning a lot from you. I am already purchasing all my tools and equipment I need.keep doing the good work.looking good without the glasses

May you have a fantastic weekend followed by an even better week! 👌👌👌
That’s for the video. Just moved and had the exact same issue, used my phone to take video into vent, used the handle from a spoon to poke through vents and free stuck flapper/vent.
Repair took 2 mins max, thanks !!!
Im going to try that!!!
Great job sir! Keep up the great content!
Thank you! I did exactly what was instructed and it worked! We appreciate you!
Excellent instructions on the repair. You are a great teacher. As far as telling jokes...
I’m glad you are back i haven’t seen you in a while.
Thank you Jim! Things have been a little busy for me so I reduced my video production to only one every other week. Hopefully I will get back to posting weekly soon. Have a fabulous weekend my friend!! 🙌🙌
Worked like a charm! Thank you!!!!
Thanks for this! Mission accomplished!
Brooo! I had a high temp light on for 2 months. Saw your video and if was for sure frozen shut. Thank you so much now we dont have to use the mini fridge for milk and eggs
Well that was easy, and You just saved me god knows how much money, thanks!
Another EXCELLENT video, thanks again.
Thank you good sir! Glad to hear you liked the video. 🙏🙂
May you have and amazing weekend, followed up by an even more impressive week! 🤜🤛
Great information thanks Jay
Pretty informative video. Thanks.
the explanation is very ok and easy to understand. and greetings 1 profession
This actually helped me with mine different model same company but in a similar area and wow spot on just cleared the ice out and instantly felt the cold air rush through once I got the damper open thank you so much I did mess up the plastic a little from not being patient but overall great video thank you so much
Thank you! Worked perfectly! You’re the man 😂
Fantastic explanation great, keep it up lots of help to many thank you very much
Very easy to understand and follow. Thank you for that! Unfortunately it seems this wasn't the problem so...😩
I really appreciate such a good and detailed explanation of the problem. Just a comment that my problem was failed damper motor but I was able to get it going wiile I waited for parts by sticking a fork in the dampler hole to hold the damper partly open. It worked fine for short term. You might have to adjust size of fork if it gets too cold or not cold enough but my first try worked good enough. I even seriously considered just leaving that and cancelling the $100 part.
Thank you so much. This was the issue! Now it's fixed.
Thanks, that was very helpful
Good video, I assume most brands operate with a similar system. However, it helps put you on the right trail.
Thank you Peter! Every refrigerator will have it's own little differences but yes, in most cases the fresh food section of the refrigerator gets its cooling from the freezer. That's why that little damper is important. If it's stuck closed = no cooling. If it's stuck open = too much cooling/freezing.
Hey thanks for making the video, my fridge ended up being the damper assembly and you have to do a reset on the fridge after you replace it or it will give you the same H1 code. So i reset it and it works great!
Great video, the corrected the issue. Thank you!
I love this guy!! Perfect!
Great instructions
Thank you so much for this video.
Good explanation thank you
Hey Jay, another awesome "fix it" video my friend!!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the general population, lol 😂
Until next week...
Take care my brother!!!
~Jay~🕊🕊🕊
Thank you Silver!! I appreciate you always stopping by and leaving a comment. Glad you liked the video and found it helpful to the general population. 😄
May God bless you and yours brother!
Thank you for this video. The only problem I had was getting the screws back in 😂😂 Took awhile but finally got them
Right. The screws are so frustrating.
Great video thanks
Loved the helpful hints and the joke.
Thank you so much! You rock!!!!
Thank you for your video.
You showed what the culprit was, I opened my fridge and there was a big ziplock bag of Amish butter resting right on the fan. I removed the bag and could immediately feel the fan blowing cool air which was previously being blocked. Thanks
Yup ,, I’mma start Right Here !!!!! Thank u 🙏
Great video
Thank you, very helpful video, my refrigerator drive me crazy, I will order a capacitor and relay as I think nothing is wrong with the compressor and fan.
Thanks great video
Very helpful
Thank you! I have the same problem!
I will try it !! 😃👍🏼
My damper is held closed by a spring. The motor pushes the damper open. Spring broke. Fridge froze. Found a similar spring in spare parts. Fixed. ❤❤❤
Great video thanks thumbs up
video helped me with fridge suddenly not cooling. Noticed it was frozen shut so fridge issue fixed. but prior to this water stopped dispensing. Assuming its related and now needing to figure out what component needs replacing as its freezing stuff up.
Thank you!!! 👍
Wonderful 😊
A lot of people don’t realize that having the door open too long can introduce a lot of humid air which can condensate and freeze causing issues
Yes. I eluded to that in the video but I probably could have done a better job explaining it. Thank you for pointing it out in the comments!
Thank you soooooooooooo much!!!
You got a new subscriber
My vent from freezer on top to frig down below had a thin layer of ice blocking the flow a few years ago. It was an easy fix.
Thank you so much ☺️ will be back for an update if it actually worked
Thank you!
Call the man just call the man call the man!
Great video. How about an update with your wife on your move to Hawaii and what its been like and your thought about living there?

Thank you Clayton! Lol, glad you enjoyed the video and the ending 😄

@@WordofAdviceTV That was another good one Jay. I've only worked on one refrigerator in my life. Still working great and its 32 years old. Just keep it cleaned up top to bottom. Cool stuff my friend
@Clayton Fite Ohh you must have a legendary fridge then! One of those that was made in the era when things were made to last. 😇😅 Those refrigerators are the easiest to work on and they last the longest. May yours faithfully serve you for another 30 years easy! 👍👍👍
