How I Price for Short-Form Content

- I wanted to offer a little perspective on pricing. I show you the price range of short clips I do and offer a story that changed my mindset as a freelance editor. I don't know who needs to hear this video, but I hope it gives you confidence and makes you think a little harder when listening and speaking to clients. Instead of thinking in edits maybe think in problem solving. Leave me a comment of your thoughts down below!

As someone who has been in this game for a while now, I'll say one thing - Value yourself first, if you want to be valued by others.
Couldn't have said it better myself, Djordje! Thank you for tuning in!
hey bro . Can i work for you I have plenty of experience
Just came back from the dermatologist, 60$ for 5 minutes visit. " I studied for so many years before being able to do this in 5 minutes " she said.
Well.. that's VALUE.
Absolutely!
Man shut up, she never said that shi
Just watch the video! very motivational, after raising my prices a bit my client basiclly told to fuck off, but apreciate the content bro
Sometimes we need to hear things the right ways at the right times to truly make an impact. You’ve just said exactly what I needed to hear at exactly the right time, and may have just changed the trajectory of my confidence and my career. Thank you so very much for putting this out there. You are truly making an impact!
I really appreciate you leaving the comment, it means a lot. Good luck out there! I'll try to put more videos like this together
Loved this video for opening the minds of other people, as many are undervaluing video editors and charging low prices
That means a lot, Jojo. I appreciate you tuning in! 🙏
I am just rewatching your old videos but damn I love your editing
Thank you for tuning in my friend 🙌🙏
Dude, I love your contents,
I'm a video editor, vertical short-form or longer for UA-cam, but it's like, my client uses me, and not really appreciate my work.
I believe my editing is good, and I can guarantee that my editing is cheaper than the most editor in freelancing platforms, but when I ask for more $ they disrespect me,.
They said, I'm the best editor they found, but they wouldn't pay me more for that.
You might want to consider the resources I linked in the description. Those will help you with conversations with clients and it might be time for you to switch clients! You can do it my friend
My boy went from “how to edit” to these high level stuff. 💯
I'm out here my man, I appreciate you tuning back in! Trying to help the industry one way or another.
As someone who just started offering my video editing services this month after getting laid off from my previous job and realizing late that "Why am I not monetizing this despite me being a UA-camr for over a decade?" I guess this video answered it for me. This right here was very helpful! Thank you for this! 😁
I appreciate you tuning in, Oppa. Just finished your Rebranding video (little eye-opening at the SEO section) and love that you're headed in a new direction for over a decade. I'm curious what the video did for you. Thank you for tuning in!
@@saturns_ring For me it's being open to more perspectives when it comes to creating UA-cam videos for other people, I've been stuck in my own UA-cam bubble for more than a decade. After a month of working with an Upwork client editing shorts/vlogs for him, I realized that I'm actually fast when it comes to editing videos, so I'm using that to my advantage to escape the "9 to 5" mentality. Now I only work at around 4 to 6 hours a day. I don't need to be pressured by the hour because I also don't want to drain the client's cashflow if you know what I mean.
This short from Chris Do (The Futur) sums it up well (replace 'logo' with 'video'): ua-cam.com/users/shortswIZxMlhIB5o
As for this re-brand, I want to challenge the algorithm and see if it can organize my videos into its proper categories. That's why when you visit my channel, you'll see different playlists for each category of content that I make (games, music, tech, voice overs) because I don't want to create separate channels for each since I'm only a one man production team. 😂
Glad to finally see a new video from you. you upload so rarely 😭 All your videos are so high quality, I hope your channel goes far
I'm in the process in changing that, I appreciate you tuning in! 🙏
You're my hope in this field man! Thanks for the tutorials. I promise I'll learn it and apply to my video edits
I appreciate it, Zoren! Best of luck out there!
Thank you for the message at respecting my value. I really needed it now that I'm getting into editing as a freelancer
Glad it was helpful! Best of luck out there, my friend. Thank you for tuning in!

@@tumski96 thank you, my guy 🤝🏽

Thank you so much for tuning in!
Great video. So now you just have to make another video on how you deal with these clients on a legal level. Like do you ask for the money upfront before you even begin to edit ? do you guys have some sort of contract in place ? How do you prevent a client from stealing a video if it worked out and didn't pay if you don't get paid first. Then after that video, we need more "how to edit like" videos, cause this space is VERY small with hardly anybody doing that. So we up and coming editors need these things for inspiration
Man I appreciate this comment! This may be a walkthrough or entire series honestly. I've done a lot of options to answer your first question. To tie it to your second question, yes. You need a contract between your client and yourself. In that contract and in your conversations before you do business, I've asked money upfront 100% or 50% on signing and the other 50% on delivery. If it's just me completing work SOMETIMES I'm comfortable asking for payment once I deliver the product (usually a longtime client because I know they will pay). Now, if I have people that I'm hiring to complete a job I ALWAYS either ask 50% upfront or 100% upfront because I instruct my client that I have to pay my editors or freelancers first so we can get the work going.
Your third question, you've got to use a bit of intuition on who you are dealing with. Some easy signs are if people are trying to beat you down on price immediately and trying to delay payment or even suggesting a trial period for free. Easiest way to avoid this is putting giant watermarks on your work.
Your forth suggestion is definitely in the works!
@@saturns_ring Aight, I appreciate it a lot. I've spent the last 4 weeks learning after effects as well as premiere pro. Already know a lot when it comes to basic editing, just got to get use to something like premiere compared to capcut which I was using before. I've just been looking for more "how to edit like" content to get inspired for what I can take to incorporate ideas into future videos. I love after effects, cause it's like whatever comes to mind creative wise, you can make inside that software. But I appreciate everything, and looking forward to those videos coming soon
Hey Kyle, just wanted to say that this video really resonated with me.
I was at the same place where I had to rethink everything I new about pricing my agency work and The Futur was and is the main inspiration for me in that process.
Thanks for encouraging others to become more successful and keep up the good work! ✌
I appreciate the comment, Erfan. I was at my lowest. Hormozi gave me a plan to make an offer and the futur gave me the confidence to make iterations to that offer. You only get better if you try and have something in hand.
I hope you're thriving now though! It's a battle everyday to be in this industry, I'm glad to hear it resonated with you 🙏
Hi @erfanmirzaie, are you still hiring extra video editor for your projects..?
Love it!!! Nobody mentioned this sort if stuff. Let’s goooo
I hope it helps, Isaac!
I guess the reason why some video editors are charging low prices is that they are not too confident in the field yet and are scared that the outcome might not be what the client is expecting (This is for those who are in basic editing (not too many visual effects or any kind that some editors can do in any editing software) but trying to venture on freelance video editing). What can you say about this for those video editors that are starting but have only basic knowledge? How much should they charge? How they could start and compete with others? And also, can you start this business using only capcut?
You can if you're not using an Android 😂HAHA
@@L1fe_quotes Android? Or.... Do you mean A.I?
My rule of thumb: Never discount or lower your price just to get that client.
don't settle for less, There are several client's that wants to work with me without a decent budget, and I turned them down, Until I finally got the high paying client.
If I accept that low budget client maybe I didn't find my high paying client.
Well said! You should make a video on your experience!

I love your videos so much, so sad I decided to cut on Final Cut Pro... would be great to use your tutorial
There are some talented editors and tutorials out there for Final cut. I appreciate you tuning in this video though. I hope you found it helpful and take a look at the resources!
I’ve been making 115+ simple video shorts/reels with closed captioning every month for a company . The Videos range from 30-59 seconds. The clips are all from the companies podcast. What would you say is a fair tiered pricing for simple videos with captioning I feel like I’m putting in a lot of hours and not truly valuing my time and effort
Have a conversation with yourself and figure out what you want. You mention you're not valuing your own time and effort, it has to start there first. NO ONE will willing you give you a raise 99% of the time. You have to start that conversation. It's better to have some data to leverage going into that conversation but you first have to want more for yourself and know what that number is. Good luck!
Can I also join the work for content writing please help
Please I also want content writing can you help me
Your videos are too much valuable for editors.
I also edit short videos and I sell my service on fiverr but the problem with fiverr is low price game, there are numerous seller who provide same service in low cost. So, could you tell me what can I do to this or I should search for other clients outside fiverr. What advice would you give me.
Thank you.
And again your videos are too much valuable for me at least.
There are many ways, I try to only speak to what has worked for me. Most of my clients I have met with in person or over a Zoom call. If you're not comfortable doing either of those; I'd recommend taking your digital presence more seriously. Start making educational content that you know and putting your face out there. If you're not comfortable doing that I would be emailing every agency I could find to make a relationship with. You can do okay working with a few agencies. If you don't want to do that either, I honestly can't help you that much. I hope that helps!
Hopefully u see this. I currently make 30 second reels for a company. They go live for about 2-3 hours and I take that video and make multiple 30 second shorts. They use them on all platforms. My shorts include b-roll and music. Roughly, how much should I charge per video.
Thank you in advance!
Edit: I forgot to mention captions. I mostly do them manually.
Charge what you're comfortable with! If you're finding the clips for them that's an upcharge you should account for. And keep track of the results your clips are getting. Be consistent and communicative with your client, most editors are terrible at fulfillment and communication.
If you're looking to talk about raising your prices, ask them how your services have been and what you can improve. Leverage the results you've got them and go from there. They will not give you a pay raise on their time, that's up to you to want more for yourself.
as always ON FIRE

I believe in you! Create your offer and start talking to potential clients my friend, it's the only way to get better and to level up.
I started to grind on upwork and linkedin, updating my fiverr gigs too. you videos truly taught me to respect my work @@saturns_ring
Wow you are an idiot
Love all of this value you're dropping. Also, how do you measure the effectiveness of your video to than confirm that your content is what generated them leads to justify the performance fee?
I talk about a little more in this podcast episode: ua-cam.com/video/DFN7rKOcKqc/v-deo.htmlsi=iC2RkhPw86GUFVV_
But to put it short, I used MailChimp to track the click-throughs that I had on my video embed on the email. That is the only real stat I gained from my implementation, I made a further mistake by not linking the actual conversions made by the video. I got lucky that I had a good relationship with my client because he could have lied about the results. I could only revert to the stat on the clickthrough's not the conversions. Hope that helps!
Great video, subscribed!
Thanks for the sub!
Now the real question is, how do I find clients?
Clients are everywhere, it helps to have something to sell. Product or service; the choice is yours. Really good nuggets in how to approach cold DM's and emails.
Make sure you have client editing experience in the first place, if you don’t have it get some there’s nothing like actually knowing what you’re telling other people to do, and this way you know how to actually help your editors (this goes for any agency in any industry).
As far as directly for your question, make genuine connections with people, I’ve caught deals with people and developed by now long term business relationships and also personally getting to know them all off of genuinely building connections with people. You gotta realize one person is a network of people in that industry in itself. You want people to recommend you because of how great you are at their own volition, and just be real at the end of the day with ppl, they appreciate transparency.
P.S. never lie about being an agency I’ve seen so many people get caught up over that.
Epic advice!!
Thank you for tuning in!
Just wanted to know, how do you track client's sales? Do they share revenue reports and you just need to trust them or something else?
The only experience I've had is tracking conversions through Google Ads. Other than that it's trust and if they are willing to share their reports. I'm sure there is software out there but I'd have to do further research on that. And I've only done a handful of deals where we are tracking sales. Each of those were for 6 months and for 3 months.
Woow, I think a fair charge would of been around $1000-$1500 specially after studying his accounts and creating a strategy for him, but great job though we live and we learn, is not about the editing at the end of the day is about marketing.
Well said! Living and learning is the only way. Only in the past year has there been business content that is easy to understand, I hope to get better at telling my experiences in this industry. Thank you for tuning in!
This is my second time watching the video. Have you made any changes in it???
Keep killing it on LinkedIn bro🙏
How are you sure a client's claimed sales is true? E.g. How do you know he sold out his class?
Can U Actually Create A Video Explaining How To Actually Start A Short Form Content Agency From Scratch ? i Do Know How To edit Great Short Form Edit , But Theres 2 Problems . First Though i Have Good Experience With Content Creation . I Don't Have A Face / Voice As im Not The Kind Of Person Who Wants To Show Myself On Camera ( No Vid Calls As Well , Only Dms ) . And Second Problem i Do Not Have A Portfolio To Showcase My Work And Build Client Trust . Neither Would i Wanna Edit Free Reels Just To Get My Portfolio Done . im Not Trynna Use This As Excuses But i Am Actually Trying To Learn
Truthfully, I wouldn't make an effective framework because the agency model doesn't fit with my personality. I took a very painful path to find that out. I'd like to prevent that for some people if I can. I have the skills but I personally prefer a content creator/personal brand model in my season of life. I'd look around on UA-cam or talk to some folks in our Discord (link in description) if you're serious about it.
All that said, I believe I'm going to make a video or series on the framework that works for me which is tailored to a solopreneur/creator/personal brand. I'll continue to speak on my agency experience as a business owner but it wouldn't be truthful or as effective for me to make a framework around it. That may change, but I can say that with confidence right now. I'm jaded on the subject because my first go lasted a few years too long and was incredibly painful.
Now, I'm going to continue to talk about things that worked for me. The things you mentioned like not wanting you show your face and voice when talking with clients is something I have close to ZERO experience with. I personally, I'm not equipped to solve that problem right now. I've started conversations in DM's but those usually lead to a phone call or virtual call because I've gained that skill through business and its a natural part of my personality. Your second problem, I will be releasing more practice footage in our next video, it's a win-win for me and the audience but a lot of folks in the industry just screen capture podcast clips of other creators and make them into edits for their portfolio.
I'd recommend checking out the resources I've put in the description as well. Those perspective might give you an idea or at least some framework on what YOU could do. I appreciate you tuning in!
Hey man. I’m editing for these youtubers. I’m in college and I’m in heavy need for money. I went into editing thinking I would charge $5 per video. However, when we discussed payment, after I was already making multiple videos for them, they said they could only pay $1.50 CAD (I live in the USA so that’s 80 cents) per video. I couldn’t reject it because I had no other clients. I am still editing for them. What do I do? How do I just quit on them? They are just starting and I don’t want to hold their youtube career back by leaving suddenly. They are college students as well and set a daily budget of $26 CAD.
Open up the conversation, it sounds like one needs to be had. Given this was a month ago, I'm curious where you are now.
With these price points they are better off doing AI, rather than hiring you as an editor. That's not fair to you, they might not even get that price using AI tools! It's a good opportunity to start advocating yourself around something your good at and needing to charge for. You've got bills to pay and need to eat.
@@saturns_ring Yeah, man, I agree with you. What happened after I sent a message to begin talking about possibly raising my pay and they decided it would be fair to raise it by 50 cents CAD (nothing in USD) was that I told them that I unfortunately couldn’t keep working for them. I’m in college and any money helps, but I was so burnt out from all of the editing for ridiculously small earnings that I almost broke my monitor once when accidentally deleting a subtitle, which seems ridiculous, but any tiny mistake I made was piled onto the stress from my situation. I am currently without any clients and struggling to find one, but I continued to work my part time job and just waiting for a client to come up. I said goodbye to them nicely and left an open window for the future, in case they ever need me in the future and have a better offer.
What do you think is the best service to find editors?
Depends, Discord communities have been underrated in finding some talented editors. We have a server that is linked in the description, if you want to ask around. Upwork and Fiverr are okay but if you're looking for a solid editor, have a good amount of content ready to go and know that you're in it for the long haul.
What if the client says that I am new in content creation game? I do not have too much budget, for now we can go with lower price and can increase later.
Any suggestion?
If you're comfortable with the situation, I don't a see problem going forward with it. Depends on what you want out of the transaction. Is it worth your time? Is it what you're looking for?

whats the followup and followthru on those types of deals for you? Do you just have to trust they tell you how well the ad did for them?
In this scenario there was a lot of trust involved. I've worked with him in the past and we already had a good relationship going with our previous work. We did however have data in what numbers the email blast was doing. We specifically made a email through MailChimp to get some basic analytics. In hindsight, I could've done more to track the actual conversion on who bought but I only had the number of who clicked through to purchase his program.
The follow-through, I've been a little lucky. I've failed a few times with this approach for a number of reasons but in the contracts I prepared I made sure my client was going to win regardless. For me, I'm comfortable with the risk and betting my strategy will work. It's my job as a problem solver in business to ask enough questions, have the skill and willingness to execute the strategy and ask for virtually any price I want so as I long as the strategy works.
The follow up, so far my busiest seasons are from March-November. I'm banking on my online personal brand to make up for the other months. I've been putting more time into digital products. I've done enough work where my name gets passed around so I have primarily a referral based business. I hope some of that answers your question. Thank you for tuning in!
Yoooo Kyle this video is fantastic...you could've charged $1000 for this 🤣
I appreciate you tuning in, Liam. You're so much further than I ever was at your age. Keep it going my man!

Please check the resources in the description. It's time for you to have elevated conversations to get better opportunities my friend, I know you can!
Bro can you tell me from where do you get your clients ? Or atleast where did you get this client?
This was all through prior connections. What helped me was there are entrepreneur groups in my city and I've gotten involved with other local business groups.
All of the clients I currently have are all local and I have been in business with for a few years.
There is a lot of different ways to get clients. You might need to try a lot of things to find what works for you. Since we've started online, I wish I would've started a personal brand sooner so I try to coach others on doing so because your digital foot-print is more important than ever and provides A LOT of flexibility if it's all online. Half of my business is still in person as I continue to do freelance
great video, is this essentially 'licensing' your work?
In some sense it could be. Solution based business practices can be more rewarding for you and the client. I try to touch on that in a nuanced way because many editors such as myself look at delivering a deliverable rather than delivering "value" or a more impactful solution. I appreciate you tuning in!
is this reuploaded ?????
Yes, it is! Sorry about that, I'm trying to retrieve the comments on the old version. There was a really good discussion going on already. Thank you for tuning back in ifrost1!
Please do a video on how you use AI with video editing
Will do! Thank you for tuning in!
Can you tell if a client wants only editing for his short form content? WHat would you charge then only for editing?
It largely depends on the scenario. Like I said in the video, my rate will fluctuate between the $30-$80 range depending on the scenario. The point is getting comfortable negotiating with clients and charging prices you're comfortable with. I'd recommend checking out the resources I linked in the description to elevate how you see your own business.

"b-roll stock footage, dip-to-white transitions, automated captions, a voiceover from our client, and some royalty-free music." (2:53)
Like I said the edit didn't matter to a certain extent. I could've maybe made a graphic and got the same result. (6:32)
why do the say first month free?
Need a little more info on this question my friend, I don't quite understand what you mean
How you get clients?
Have an offer and start having conversations. When you get rejected ask for feedback, make iterations, acquire more skills. Continue to talk to more people. Very rarely will opportunities just fall in your lap, people have to know what you do.
who t f pays 20,000 per post? this is crazy. Is it even correct information?
It sure is! Its not instant by any means. These are big time creator prices
but there are clients just pay 5 to 10dollars
I'd recommend checking out Alex's book or videos to help build your own offer. Once you have some sort of an offer start having conversations with clients. I learned from Chris Do on some strategies while talking prices with clients. Both of resources are in the description. Give yourself some time to make an offer that is unique and valuable to start charging more. Thank you for tuning in!
Bro can u give me idea how much i can charge my 30-60sec Shorts.. and also iman gadzi style 8-14min long video?? I'm scared to charge high clients if they decline me.. nowadays randoms clients just give less then $5 per min for long video and less then $10 for 40sec - 1min shorts.. i just wanted to know how much i can fair charge a client if they don't give then i can decline them... Please help brother
Actually It depend your style and charge atleast $20-$22 even you are basic one for short term video
I'll be making a video on this pretty soon. Short answer is charge what you're comfortable with and keep putting yourself out there. No one will come and find you, you likely have to keep expanding your network.
@@anjaligiri5587 how much i can charge for iman gadzi style video brother??
I charge $50 up
Not bad! I hope it's sustainable for you, thank you for tuning in!
