Once again you’ve created a masterpiece! I know Mother Nature created the wood but you saw the beauty and potential of the wood! Howard Feed and Wax is some amazing stuff!
Thank you for your support, Tina! 😊
Biscuit and dip? Beautiful Phil🥰👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🙏🇬🇧

Mine too, Sandy! Thank you! 😊
Wow Phil this winged bowl is stunning and oh soooooooo beautiful the grain in the burl is breathtakingly awesome. You have this amazing touch when it comes to these rough edge pieces. It is awesome.
Gosh, Kobie, such a wonderful comment to get my morning off on the right foot! I'm so glad you noticed the grain in this piece. It is quite stunning. Thank you!
Phil
Very Nice! Thank you for using our Feed-N-Wax

Phil
Thank You Phil...Just wonderful wood with a nice finish on the Burl. Nothing beats Burl wood. Thank You Gary for donating to Phil, ThePapa1947. Phil this piece had everything, Burl & Bark...life is good...tm
Life is indeed good, Tuffy, especially with all the great wood I have been able to dive into. Indeed, burl and bark, what else is there? LOL! Thank you so much, I appreciate it, buddy!
Phil
Consistently gorgeous.
Hard to go wrong with the beautiful wood, Louis! Thank you for watching and commenting!

Thanks for the visit, Stephen!
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop I really enjoy watching your videos! You do amazing work and I learn from it!
Very nice your tools are always perfectly .sharpened.
Thank you, Ernie! I've found it's far easier to just take the time to get sharpening right and the side benefit is, it makes turning more fun.
Phil
Beautiful work Phil :) As always, Will
Thank you, Will!
Phil
Keeping the wings makes a great difference !
Wow we!!!!!! Nice 👍👍👍
Thank you so much, Jack!
Phil I could not be happier that I sent you this beautiful piece of wood. There was never any doubt that it would turn into a beauty.
And man o man did you do it justice. I really love the bead you put on the top rim. I could say it is hard to believe it has so much burl in it but I cut it off a larger burl and looking forward to turning the piece that was directly connected to this one.. I think getting a number of pieces off a burl is better than one big burl bowl. And those cuts on the edge were done on my Rikon band saw and I am sure glad you left them.
Wonderful job my friend!
Gary
Thank you, Gary, both for the kind words and the wood! I knew what this wanted to be as soon as I took it out of the box. Just a gorgeous large burl! I didn't really have any issues and I'm sure you won't with yours, either. I think you are right, more pieces instead of one big one. That seems like it would be a waste. Hey, I have the same Rikon saw now! Love it!
Phil
Yeah Phil it was looking like you had got the Rikon when I last saw you use it. I keep thinking of selling my Delta but it is one of the first they made and I rebuilt the whole saw. And it came with about 30 new blades. Garage sale find. And I keep a smaller blade on it.
Selling won't give me more because I will buy something to put in its place...lol
Take care buddy
Gary
Fine looking job Phil thank you
Thank you for taking your time to watch and for you comment, Paul, I truly appreciate it!
Phil
Nice job. Love letting the wood speak for itself.
Thank you, Ricky! Agree, let it's beauty shine on it's own!
Phil
Nice job very cool 👌👍
So glad you like it, Jose! Thank you!
Phil
WOW that is one hell of a winged bowl Phil! You certainly brought out the beauty in this one, I love that you keep it simple and let the wood do the talking.
Absolutely, Mitch, when you have perfection to start with, don't try to fix it! Thank you!
Phil
Fantastic Phil!! What a beautiful looking piece. Great design choice and finish. Top notch as always.
Thank you so much, Lee, really glad you like it!
Phil
Beautiful ❤ 👍👍👍
Thank you so much 😊
Nice bowl Phil. 👍🇺🇸
Thank you, Cortland!
Phil
Nothing like maple burl , bowl looks great
This was a particularly nice burl, too, Randy, as you can see. Thank you!
Phil
Amazing burl piece. That was a very generous gift.
Indeed, Red! Thank you!
Phil
Awesome Phil Great Job. I have to catch up on your videos. Brian
Thank you, Brian! Yes, please, catch up! LOL!
Phil
This one would be happy on my shelf or table, Phil! Nicely done. If you or others have use for small blocks of burl, you can precut the wood away under the wings and have more to use for bottle stoppers or other small projects.
Thank you, Valerie! Hey now, that's a great tip! You're always using your head!
Phil
Phil Anderson - Shady Acres Woodshop Not my original idea. Saw demo where he cut rings off bottom of bowl blank that saved wood that otherwise would end up as sawdust. So now I have a stack of rings cut from what would have been waste wood. And I precut my square edged bowl blanks to save primo wood for other uses.
Another winner. Thanks for sharing Phil. I always look forward to Friday morning breakfast watching your videos. Keep um coming.
Good to know, Wayne, I'll think of you on Friday mornings! Thank you so much!
Phil
You knew how to preserve the character of this burl. Thanks for this sharing. Regards
That is almost always my main focus, Yves. Try to get the most of the nature already in the wood, don't try to fix it. Thank you!
Phil
Another nice piece Phil. Lovely.
Really glad you like it, David, thank you!
Phil
Beautiful, Phil! It looks so smooth. I think it would be awesome to feel the smoothness of it. I love to watch you work your magic. You take a blank piece of wood then.....Bibbity Bobbity Boo!!!! There is a beautiful piece of art right in front of you! Amazing! I wait for your next project with great anticipation! Thank you my friend. 🤗 ~ Roma
I see you left this comment six hours ago, Auntie, so I look at my clock and I learn you are an early riser! I wish I was, but alas, not so much. I do think half the beauty is how the wood feels. Some have textures, some have multiple textures and some are smooth as can be. It's all good! Thank you!
Phil
Phil, Actually I’m not an early riser. Quite the contrary. I love to sleep in. I was just having a hard time falling asleep, so I was still up when I wrote that. 😁 (I’m STILL awake. 😬) Stress I guess. 🤗
I guess I'm pretty lucky in that regard, Auntie. I've always been able to sleep, just about no matter what. Time for your nap!
I'm usually not a fan of winged bowls, but that piece of wood was meant to be done that way. All those eyes!!! thanks to the Papa, and thank you Phil, for sharing this.
Mark
When I took it out of the box it was immediately clear to me what it should become. That's not always the case! Thank you, Mark!
Phil
Very pretty piece Phil. You did a great job on it as usual.
Really glad you like it, Dana, thank you very much!
Phil
Another Thursday, another beautiful piece! Thanks for sharing, Phil!
HA! Thank you, Dianna!
Phil
Lovely piece Phil. When you started off I wasn't quite sure about the shape but by the time you finished I was converted. Keep em spinning Phil !!!
Spinning and spinning, Mick! Thank you so much!
Phil
O my ..Beautiful...I think I have another favorite LOL. Great workmanship Phil 👍👍👍👍👍👍
So glad you like it, Jack, thank you for taking your time to let me know!
Phil
You do beautiful woods appropriate justice.
Thank you, Louis, I'm glad you like it!
Phil
Man o man Phil that came out excellent! That Gary is alright!! What a nice chunk of maple! (My favorite) thanks for sharing!...Bruce
It's all about the wood, isn't it, Bruce! Thank you, buddy!
Phil
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop yes sir!
No doubt about it Phil that’s a beautiful piece of Burl & as expected you turned Gary’s gift into a piece of art. The bead was all it needed, the beauty of the wood left to speak for itself.
Another very enjoyable project & appreciate you sharing it with us.
Regards as always from the UK.
Geof
Hi Geof! Yes, Gary did me a big favor with this one! Just a beautiful piece of wood! And, I agree with you, no sense trying to add to the beauty, just let it speak for itself. Thank you, my friend, for your great comment!
Phil
Your timing is impeccable! Just finished something a tiny bit similar . . . I'll send a pic or 3. But first, you did it so much better and with much more beautiful wood! All I had to work with was a nasty slice of spalted red maple with a rotty dead branch in the center of it. Yours is so over the top purty! Wow! Googly eyes! 4 thumbs 👆 (there's two of us watching)
Huge thank you to Gary! for sending Phil this wonderful piece of burl!
Thank you Dave (and Clarissa)! I saw yours and it's gorgeous! One of your pieces is up next week! Then, another the week after that! (Unless I blow it)
Phil
Well, to be perfectly honest, you showed me yours, first! 😜
Such a gorgeous bowl...I've never been lucky enough to have a maple burl...hopefully, some day!
Thank you, Carol! Get ye to Oregon, I think they have a corner on the market for burl and many other beautiful hardwoods.
Phil
Another piece of art. You and Mike Waldt are my favorite turners. Relaxing and enjoyable videos.
Well, how nice is that to be put in the same category as Mike! He's one of my faves, too! Thank you, Jerry!
Phil
Stunning piece of wood Phil, transformed wonderfully. Thanks for showing. Jules, Droitwich, England
Thank you very much, Jules, glad you like it!
Phil
What an amazing piece Phil,A1 all the way around
Wow, thank you!
Phil
Well phil, once again another great project. I just happen to have a redwood blank on the lathe about that size. Maybe tomorrow i will have at it. Makes me want to buy a chain saw and checkout the neighbors back yards. have a gopod one.
Just be sure they are on vacation, Ron! LOL! Thank you!
Phil
Good looking piece. You definitely have your unique style
It's always fun to see what you come up with.
Thank you, Joe, I'm glad you like this piece and really glad you took your time to watch and comment!
Phil
Hi Phil,
That is beautiful, well done!

So glad you like it, Lars, thank you very much!
Phil
Very nice ,love the burl . You keep kicking a-- - with what you do from a hunk of wood . Alan
HA! Thank you, Alan, I appreciate it!
Phil
That was a great piece of wood that Gary sent you and you made a beautiful bowl out of it. I saw in Gary's last video that he was using the drill press clamp you sent him.
Thank you, William! Yeah, Gary had to make some modifications but loves using it.
Phil
Another superb piece Phil I have an English Oak burl awaiting the same treatment :)
Great video.
Cheers
Mike
Thank you very much, Mike! Looking forward to your version. They can be fun to turn, for sure!
Phil
Wonderful video, Phil! Thank you for explaining your processes and thoughts so well. Beautiful piece!
Thank you, Rick! I appreciate you taking your time to watch and comment!
Phil
What a stunningly beautiful piece that became under your deft hand, my friend. Just lovely!
Billy
Lucky me, huh, Billy? Yes, a great piece of wood! Thanks, buddy!
Phil
Great piece, given me ideas for many thick pieces about the same size as yours. Sadly, many of your excellent USA products cost an arm and a leg in freight costs, often more than the item, plus the exchange rate is not good for down under Australia. Some very nice products you have in the states for wood turners. We now make very little in Oz, have a government with no ideas how to create industries, too lazy, they are selling off the farm and family jewels-easy money. We might soon be an island state of another large country that knows a good thing and goes flat out to buy up all our resources, including our water!! 👍🇦🇺🔭
Amazing piece! That maple burl sure is a treat to turn isn’t it?! My favourite! Love the videos kind sir! Keep up the incredible work!
Yes, it is a treat to turn, Chris! Thank you very much for watching and commenting, much appreciated!
Phil
Beautiful job Phil, totally agree about the Howard feed N wax, a bit expensive this side of the pond but worth every penny. Keep up the good work mate.
Thank you, Andy, I really appreciate your comment!
Phil
Very nice Phil, I'm surprised that the woodwork screw held in the burl.
Thank you G I! Some burl can be soft but this wasn't that. It held really well!
Phil
after seeing this i had to try out my own winged bowl !! ive added a link to your video in mine hope that was ok 👍
I hope it turned out well, Dan. Sure, it's OK, thank you!
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop perhaps you could have a little look at my winged bowl video and see what you think ? If your not too busy.. any advice would be appreciated maybe some advice on how to get more people to watch it or maybe im going wrong somewhere ? Thank you in advance
@@wheelsdan I did watch your video, Dan. Very good work, excellent finish! Building a channel and audience just takes time. No secrets. Just keep producing interesting content and they will come.
Thank you 😊
Hi Phil, That is one beautiful bowl. Just bought some Howard's Feeding Wax on eBay for £12.49 or just over $15 for 8oz. Cheers, Huw
Thank you, Huw! Sorry it costs as much as it does but it will last a long time, so that should ease the pain a little.
Phil
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop Having seen the results you get I'm happy to pay that. The best price I've seen up to now was in excess of £20 on Amazon and other sites. Cheers, Huw
Absolutely beautiful! Paige C.
Thank you, Paige, I'm so glad you like it and took your time to let me know!
Phil
Really nice bowl Phil, you make it look very easy, which I know it crtainly isn't. thanks for posting
Thank you very much, John!
Phil
Very very beautiful ...Thank's
Thank you, Steve!
Phil
Beautiful piece of burl. Nice job
Ever turn an airplane propeller?
Thank you, Garth! No, never have but I have stood in front of a few!
Phil
That is amazing looking wood. What causes the patterns in the wood? Truly incredible looking!
Burl wood is a place on the tree that the wood grows every-which-way, Denise. It doesn't always happen so burls are considered kind of rare. 😊
Far the bowl gauge skating back take a parting tool an start the cut and then come back with your bowl gauge . At that point it cannot skate back.
Great work as usual!!!!!!
Thank you, Ronnie, great tip, too!
Phil
Mr. Phil you just are amazing at your tool handling you make it look so easy, but you always turn a beautiful and stunning masterpiece.
Take my friend god bless from the🇺🇸🇺🇸🦞🦞🐊🐊 Cajun 🐊🐊🦞🦞🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thank you so much, Cajun, I appreciate your great comment!
Pjil
Oh, yes.
Thank you, Harpo!
Phil
Wow! Outstanding figure in this one Phil! I have a piece about this size of Black Walnut crotch figure. Might have to give this a whirl. See you in the next one friend
😊
Howdy Phil
Always like seeing and working with burls ....I really like how that corner came out adds so much to the bowl , I think it does . When that feed and wax was applied makes come alive .
Is there a history on winged bowls ? Were made for a purpose ? or did you invent them LOL .
So nice to see burl .
Glad to see no problem with the small gouge .I have not had that problem , but I turn my head out towards me and can get a big tool angle approaching it . Mr. Lyons sound right . Something I will remember if and when it happens to me .
Fantastic turn...just beautiful
Keep on turnin'
I don't know if there's a history, Bruce but I'm sure I didn't invent them. LOL! What I like about them is, they are easy to pick up when sitting on a table or whatever. Thank you so much, Bruce, I appreciate it and I'm glad you like it!
Phil
Phil, Frank from WoodWorxct.com.
Another amazing turn. I really like the shape.
Thank you so much, Frank, I'm really glad you like it!
Phil
Phil I've a question. What is it in the piece that tells you to use the Howard's or the shalac ? You seem to know which one will bring out the beauty in the piece the most.
I've been asked this question before, Dean, and I just don't have a good answer. It just depends on how I feel at the time. I guess I think some pieces are show pieces (shellac) and some pieces are meant to be handled and caressed (Feed & Wax). Dopey, I suppose, but it's the best I can do.
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop Thank you. Between you and Papa1947 I will figure it out. I really like watching you guys work. I am building a shop behind my house and should have my lathe up and running soon. I am new to working with wood and am looking forward to learning to turn.
Hi Phil, I have a practical question: Where do you leave all your finished products?
At some point you end up with a bowl in every nook & cranny of your house.
I tried but after the first three bowls the bosslady said she didn't need any more.
Do you give them away or perhaps even sell them?
Thnx for your entertaining video's!
Well, Leo, that's just what I have. Every nook and cranny and then some! I've never sold any, they are just sitting around here, some in boxes. My heirs will probably have to deal with it. I just can't stop turning them!
Thank you for watching and commenting!
Phil
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop Well Phil, at least your work looks a whole lot better than what I have produced thus far.
But I'm learning and in this respect your helpful comments while working are very useful. What a wonderful format!
I'm going through your entire video collection and learning many practical things from them.
Almost through so keep em coming please!
/leo
Ya know, Leo, it will come. One day, soon I hope, you will walk up to the lathe, begin turning and all you have learned will just fall into place and it will become, at least, easier, almost natural. Keep at it! And, I'll keep at it. I've got one on the lathe, now, ready to turn around and start on the inside. I'm excited to begin that process in just a few minutes!
Phil
Phil. What bevel angle do you have on your bowl gouge? Thanks
Gosh, Ray, I don't know! I use jigs that I bought to aid in setting the angle for sharpening on my Oneway Wolverine jig. I never even considered what angle they are.
Phil
When cutting the inside cut a ridge with a partying tool first to start your gouge on it and it won't ever skate back on you..
partying tool haha that was a great typo
Thank you, Don, great tip!
Phil
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop Concur, a tiny groove with a 'partying' tool will sort it! :)
