Star signs are a great idea, and I love the sound of the origin story. I’m liking what they say about all the supplementary material to the deck itself, but Ironically I feel like there might be “too many things” in this set! Surely, there’s something for everyone, but few people will use everything, which makes the price harder to get past. Good gift, tough buy. I look forward to Nerd Immersion’s inevitable unboxing video!

Mmmm shame about the price. But what an amazing gift it would be uwu 🌟 Have you any lore for personal games on where the Deck of Many Things came from? :3
They mention that you do build the deck as you see fit, so you can limit the cards that you think may be detrimental to your campaign, and in that respect I think having too many cards is less of an issue than too few, not that I really think shaving a dozen cards would have reduced the cost by that much. I think the presentation is more what's driving the cost up given these could have been just regular ol poker sized cards
I had less than zero interest in this product, but after watching this it sounds like a wonderful story generation tool I'm going to have to seriously reconsider my opinion of.
This has to be my favorite announcement for D&D this year. This collection sounds absolutely amazing, and I cannot wait to get this and read through it some more. You all did amazing work from what i'm seeing. Jason Tombro did an amazing job explaining this and I'd like to see more from him. Looking forward to the next BoMT content reveal!
I like the idea of using the deck as a random adventure generator of sorts. That's a neat idea. :) The physical edition sounds cool, but it's way too expensive for me.
@@KristoVaher It isn't, but it's thematic and the methodology is its unique novelty. The Deck of Many Things has ALWAYS been something that could be reduced to just a roll on a table but for years it's always been more fun to present the deck to players and have them draw a card. Conversely you could always take a random table and write them on index cards. I love random table generators for adventures be it the Tome of Adventure Design or Sine Nomine's line of "Without Number" books but this is also another fun variant on the idea
ngl, I really do like how this deck+book of many things sounds and looks. It adds a kind of gamie-ness to DnD. Where your players might decide they want a quick 1 shot from the deck just for funsies.
I like this guy's energy. Gives good information, credits everyone he can, answers common concerns. I had zero interest in this product before but now I'm considering it.
$99 USD = $136 CAD, which isn't as bad as rent, but it's still pretty painful. Sure, Wizards may offer free shipping, but after taxes and import fees it's just too steep for me. 😢
when I first heard about this book I didnt really know how useful it was going to be but building and predicting campaigns and character star signs are all really cool concepts. could even imagine combining the building/predicting parts where the players draw cards, giving them a glimpse of the path forward but the DM filling out the Adventure with what those cards mean
I got a lot more use out of Domains of Delight than I did The Wild Beyond the Witchlight. The random generator tables are always my favourite part of any book. Looks like this box is gonna take that design philosophy and turn it up to 11. Cut and paste adventure elements are also really great to use if you're homebrew setting and campaign focused like I am.
This was an absolutely great video! Dude's energy was fantastic, and he was very informative. No real over-explaning as some DM's like myself tend to do 😅 But now with a better understanding of what this card is, im definitely getting that nice limited cover!
I had no idea who this gentleman is (Jason I mean) before today, but he is a fantastic interview! I feel like his high energy and excitement really helps sell not only this product but D&D in general. I hope he's more involved with projects in the future
It would be nice if you could do something like this with the Tarokka deck in Ravenloft. I think that another Ravenloft supplement should be in the works for this. Van Richten's Guide was a good start with the into different horror genres, but expanding each of your campaign settings that aren't the Forgotten Realms are definitely needed. I like the three-book sets for campaign settings, but they need to be more substantial.
It's long out of print and hard to find now but for 3.5 there was a Tarokka deck made under the Sword & Sorcery brand for Ravenloft that had it's own "adventure designer" using the deck. It was not nearly as detailed and rich as what they're describing here but it was pretty slick at the time for coming up with adventure hook inspiration
Honestly, this looks like a huge help to DMs. I’ve had to come up with my own rulings for the Deck because it felt untested and undercooked, so having more understandable rulings in addition to my home brew is great (Looking at you Throne and Key).
This _feels_ like the product that so many of us have been waiting for from 5e for such a long time; a rich smorgasbord of options to cater to almost every game table, with what sounds like pretty comprehensive GM support and just awesome and evocative stuff to entice players. I really hope that it pulls it all off! It's pricey, sure, but I would rather buy one set at 100 bucks that lives up to the promise of this release a year than 3 books that have the sort of half-baked level of detail that some recent releases have. IF this lives up to the hype (and I can feel myself getting on board that train), then it easily could contain a year's worth of content in it!
The longer I listen to this video the better it gets: as soon as I heard from the expanded deck, I wanted to create a treasure hunt adventure where each card works as its own magic item. Lo and behold, at 20:43 they reveal that they've already done most of the work for me!
I like how players can give their own meaning to how they interpret the cards. Leaving creativity to really help or hinder each player. What do you think this card means?? Then that's what happens like a corrupt fortune cookie.
The book and a print out of the random tables for the card readings might be decent, but I have about a thousand old magic the gathering cards that I sift through to build my decks of many things.
For years one of the biggest complaints I, and MANY others, have had regarding 5e is that while it's fun to play it's not really fun to DM and the OSR scene has been leeching GM's left and right. Now there's certainly a lot of things that goes into that issue BUT watching this video has sold me on the deck, specifically hearing that not only does the deck help with adventure inspiration but that the same 9 cards could provide wildly different experiences. Personally I am a huge fan of having tables and randomizing elements and then "scrying" the meaning and how they connect and something like this for DM's has been sorely lacking in 5e. I love using the far more primative rules from B/X to generate adventure hooks and this looks like a lot of fun, even just using the cards on the fly for a kick of inspiration and randomness the DM gets to enjoy. Reminds me of the Ravenloft Tarokka deck that was made during 3.5 for Sword & Sorcery

This looks absolutely amazing! The artwork, and especially the cards looks so great! I love using the Deck of Many Things as a DM and really like the lore and that it now can be used to outline adventures and work without completely derailing a campaign. Really looking forward to this box set! 🤩✨
There's been a number of these type of things on the market. But this one, either standing alone or with the rest of the package, sound like it could be the best of them.
Also! Now that we have Todd Kenrick here, I am going to again refer to the Heroes Of The Vale game that he was in which this book very much needs to make a reality for us!
It's funny that there's a werecreature thieve's guild, because this is exactly what I did with Meredin Sandyfoot in Spelljammer, shame I'm in the process of wrapping up that campaign, but it sounds like it might be useful! Still not thrilled with the page count, but the cards sound fun, might make it some decent value for money. I'm actually cautiously optimistic for once
Question: Something I've always wondered about the original version of the Deck of Many Things, if instead of using it yourself, you trick the BBEG to swipe at you, but he/she/it comes into contact with the whole deck [well of the cards you have] and those that land face up [good/bad/neutral happen to the BBEG?
Technically you have to declare how many cards you intend to draw BEFORE drawing. Also it is kinda still skewed toward the positive so I'm not sure that would make things easier even if you did pull it off.
@luminous3558 Only if you let it derail your campaign you can honestly come up with numerous ways to not have that happen WITHOUT derailing your campaign. Pretty much all you gotta do is treat all of the cards as a bit of fortune telling. A level 4 fighter, an adventurer shows up at the homebase and asks to be your squire after a mission. Your character solo fights a reaper of death, next time they go unconscious, have a solo battle within the players mind, and if they lose they die or if they win bring them back with 1 hp, etc. The 50,000 xp, just have the whole party share the boon equally by making an encounter or set of encounters reward more xp. When planehopping is required for your campaign, they come across an artifact or trap that locks them in an extra dimensional space with JUST ENOUGH info the party can locate their friend and in order to escape they find themselves on the plane you wanted them to be on. It's only as game breaking when A. You let them keep the deck and/or B. you allow whatever to happen immediately without wrapping it into the narrative. If it were me, I'd make it so the player encounters a singular NPC with the deck and offers a chance to draw, but ONLY once each person and obviously don't allow them to draw like 10 cards each. Preferably, only let one person draw at all. It's really not that bad if you use your head.
I love the concept. The Deck's reputation makes it sound like it ruins the game, but in reality, it's a story generation tool and you leaned hard on it.
It's just more of wotc trying to force inclusion for no reason. If they keep going farther with it they will alienate a large part of their player base. So many people are just tired of seeing that kind of thing forced on them
As someone with autistism I find it interesting how they could include an autistic interpretation from a DnD viewpoint. They'd have to be a damn good writer or an autistic individual writing that character to have very specific connections to DnDs plane and not come off as tropes from this plane. Though, I think I wouldn't like to know directly or be told the character is autistic or whatever the DnD equivalent would be. Instead I'd like to come to that conclusion, the character may be perceived as autistic within the DnD universe, on my own. I guess a better case of show don't tell...
I was going to make my usual "It's time to d-d-d-d-ddd-duel!" joke, but.... what if Yugi just busted out The Deck Of Many Things in a game of Duel Monsters? That would be funny as hell.
$100 USD is a bit expensive, wish it had a subclass at least. I am a bit interested because i've wanted to create a custom campaign and I think this might help with that.
4:00 theres gonna be a were-vulture, but are the lycnathropy rules goung to be revisited? They're kinda horrible and extremely vague as they currently stand
There are a couple of things I don't understand - Is the main book only for the 22 card deck of many things? Ie each chapter has lots of variant effects for each card drawn? Does this mean that the BIGGER deck, the one with 66 cards, does not have as many options per card drawn? Also when creating a random adventure with the cards, do you use the full 66 card deck? Or only the 22 one? ty!
As a very old time gamer (46 years) I can't help but look at this as yet another turning away from the original game. Those of us who started with the game in the 70s, weathered the horrors of the Satanic Panic of the 80s, kept the game propped up as TSR crumbled because of bad business practices in the 90s... We held the banner high, kept the torch lit, the home fires burning (call it what you will) and ensured there was something left for WotC to salvage. We've watched WizBro morph what drew us in into something barely recognizable. This 'product' is a dissolution of yet another classic element that made the game what it was. It shows that - despite their protestations otherwise - WotC really has no respect for what was. All they have is greed for what they can make it into. I'll quote lyrics from the Counting Crow's song Big Yellow Taxi that describes what WizBro has done to D&D to a T: "They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."
So what's the difference between the random card laid out adventure vs random tables generated adventure? This laid out card thing sounds like an expensive and fiddly gimmick.
So, it’s a product that creates vague suggestions for unsatisfying improv D&D sessions? Well, I don’t know who it’s for but I hope all three of them enjoy it 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️ (That being said, the book of many things does look worth picking up. I wish I could get it without the vestigial additional product!)
I've been playing D&D for nearly 40 years starting with the first edition and it's been a while I've not seen a product that seems to bring so much potential and fun.

I’m so upset they cut the Fate Domain Cleric from this book. I had so much fun playtesting it!!! And it would have fit the themes perfectly!
Probably moved to a different book. But yeah, seems that was a big selling point.
Yeah, could easily be in the 2024 PHB
Well that bums me out for this book a bit. I really liked the Fate Domain
they cut 2 sublcasses from bigbys as well idk why they keep cutting the subclasses from these books when its one of the biggest upsides to the books
A Stars Druid would still fit thematically

Appreciating the physicality, procedural generation and DM-minded stuff ^^

Oohhhhh, the "Satanic Panic" crowd is gonna love this
Now, when is Wizards going to let us get a Physical/Digital bundle with alt covers?
Does anybody know if I purchase the digital version on dnd beyond I gain access to the new cards?
This looks great. Going on the Xmas list.
4:00 theres gonna be a were-vulture, but are the lycnathropy rules goung to be revisited? They're kinda horrible and extremely vague as they currently stand
Is it possible to buy a deck of *Some* of the many things?
Horrifically evil thought, adding the Tarokka Deck as a side deck to the DoMT.
There are a couple of things I don't understand -
Is the main book only for the 22 card deck of many things?
Tarot for D&D.
If you need it?
I want a "Deck of Too Many Things."
I think it was a bad idea to release this without a cheaper option. $100 is steep for what is offered.
Oh ok a deck of many things book that has more magic ite- wait hold up this book sounds awesome.
Will there be any references to Gardmore Abbey?
@@jasontondrothank you so much for the passion you have displayed in this video. I am buying it entirely because of that
The book content starts at 3:39
It says Available Now?
This may be the best D&D product ever launched for the 5th edition
Hey Todd, how about a X-men Gambit Warlock Avren?
My deck of many things are made of enamel, made from the fingernails of a reality warping deity :3c
What is the lore for everyone else's?
Please tell me these come with card sleeves...
Okay, who put a Keyblade in the book? Because I wanna kiss them in the lips.
So what's the difference between the random card laid out adventure vs random tables generated adventure? This laid out card thing sounds like an expensive and fiddly gimmick.
Cards are cool.
There's a lot of people into both tarot/Oracle decks and D&D. It doesn't have to be for everyone.
I really like it but the price, Wotc cmon, u want to drain us ?
this book has more for dms than for players since most of the choices are flavor and dm dependant, its a hard sell for me.
So, it’s a product that creates vague suggestions for unsatisfying improv D&D sessions? Well, I don’t know who it’s for but I hope all three of them enjoy it 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
(That being said, the book of many things does look worth picking up. I wish I could get it without the vestigial additional product!)
I've been playing D&D for nearly 40 years starting with the first edition and it's been a while I've not seen a product that seems to bring so much potential and fun.
Very heavy breathing
