Sometimes when your working on a project you don’t always have the right tools to do it correctly but if you use some ingenuity like a bigger hammer or a cutoff wheel the results can be achieved without busting your hands or messing up a good part . The days of the backyard mechanic are alive and well. Be careful and stay safe my friend God love ya brother.
A bad spindle seal is what caused the lockout and bearings to go bad. You have to remove it to replace it. The spindle bearing is also bad. Love the squarebody content buddy!!!
HEY PUDDIN I JUST WHAT TO SAY THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO. YOU ARE A OUTSTANDING FATHER, SON, HUSBAND, FRIEND AND FABRICATION UA-camR AND I JUST WANTED ONCE AGAIN TO SAY THANK YOU FOR BEING YOU!!🇨🇦♥️💯👍😁
On my project truck on my channel , i had never even done brakes, much less bearings. And mine is a 4x4 as well. It took days researching how to do it and figure out the right parts and tools for the job. Helluva job for a novice like me but I managed! And I never would have done it had you not inspired me! ♥️
On those copper washers for the brake banjo bolts, you can anneal them easily. Use your propane torch, heat red hot and let cool. This makes them soft so the seal better. I tinker with old bike. Often you can't find the right size new ones and you have to use old ones. Annealing them as I described softens them enough to seal.
Theo is just a gooooo pup.I love how he comes to life see you and is just happy liven a good life. God did bless that dog by finding your home of love.
Hey Puddin , I'm watching you doing the brakes on old Roy , I'm not trying to tell you how to do your job but when you're doing rear brakes there are 6 contact points on your backing plates that should be cleaned and lined if you don't the rear brakes will squeak and it will also wear out your backing plates , just a tip from 45yrs of experience
You’re absolutely right about spending time with your family and kids. They grow up and are gone before you realize how much time you missed with them. Much respect to you. Old Roy got a good work over and you’re not far from test driving it. Thanks for sharing, Puddin. 👍🇺🇸🦅✊
hey puddin, in the 25 years ive done brakes, i was always taught to relieve pressure on the caliper first. open the bleeder, use a flat head, press the pad against the cylinder side of caliper and the rotor, bleed some pressure off (one side at a time). yes it can waste a bit of fluid, youre gonna bleed em anyways after. calipers dont release to full open state unless you bleed the pressure and force it. makes fighting them off a breeze. the rotor lip is from lazy brake jobs, thats why people can have the hard time getting them off.
Puddin you can heat those copper banjo washers up with your turbo torch and they will get softer. Don't go too far or you'll melt them. I was a plumber for years and when I needed to make a bend in hard copper pipe I would heat it to soften it. I had that problem on my car so I heated them and BAM like a dream it actually worked.😁👍
On your brake backing plate, don't blow them off, use brake cleaner. Put a drain pan underneath to catch the crud as it comes off. For tough stuff use brush to loosen. This way you won't get dust in the air.
Puddin when I do the rear drums like those I pull the spring back as far as possible then use a set of needle nose vice grips to lock them back makes so much easier to get off and back on.
4x4 fronts are really fun, good job ,keep it coming roy is going to be cool for puddin pops. You will always remember the smile you will be putting on his face. I fix my pops truck for him,he has pasted by his truck still brings all the good memories back when I drive it.
Puddin is a much better mechanic than I'll ever be. I'd change those breaks 10 times before I ever thought about doing some of the body work I've seen him do. Different strokes for different faulks. Great video!
Puddin instead of worrying about getting the springs on get both shoes put on the backing plate first and then do your springs and if you do it right it'll go a lot smoother my first car had drum brakes all the way around it and I fought with them like you are but after doing it for a while you figure out some tricks and then once you do they're not so bad
I did the brakes on my c350 for the first time and it was definitely a learning experience. If ya take your time and work your way thru you can figure it out. It helps you put a little light motor oil in there. Just give it a Light. spritz when you put it together That way when you're engaged and disengaged it works good
I hope you have better luck then I did with the wiring harness from Amazon. I had to check every wire pin out. I had 5 wires to the wrong pins. Finally got it running and no o2 sensor readings.had to redo the ground connections at pin to ecu. Good luck.
I did the lockouts on my 75 Blazer and replaced with Warn Lockouts. They came with great directions that included a list of tools required. So I was able to at least make it a little easier, got her done.
Hey Puddin 👋, good video on how much fun brake jobs can be. Old Roy getting there one step at a time. Have a great week and hopefully you don't catch the girls sickness. Have a good week!
WOOOOOWE! Let's get some Pudding action, in this Ol' Roy situation! I can 100% relate to the struggle of fixing drum brakes. More often than not, they WILL whoop you. You're a trooper for pulling through with it, even with all the things going on behind the scenes!
Hate to tell you this Puddin, but under the 6 bolts on the spindles there are important bearings on the front axle that you missed. They on the insides of the spindles for the outer axle shafts.
@@junkboxgarageOG The axle shafts run through needle bearings that are inside of the spindles. Most 4x4's that used locking hubs have these bearings. This one does. The part name is axle shaft inner bearing, or front axle spindle bearing. Look this part up on google: DANA SPICER 550759 Spindle Needle Bearing
To reinstall the retaining nut on the manual locking hubs you spin the rotor forward and backwards as you tighten the nut. You’ll know when it’s tight enough whenever the rotor doesn’t feel loose as you rock it back a forth and it has minimal play.
Puddin time finally time to learn something new and be extremely entertained at the same time. Now I know me and puddin have something in common no quiting figure it out and make it work 😅
I watch so many folks just prying those calipers off the rotor without returning some fluid. If you pop the master cylinder cap and put a screwdriver down in the opening at the top of the caliper, you can pry on the caliper and it pushes the piston back in ever so slightly. Just the perfect amount to grab the caliper and pull it off by hand.
I get really uptight when people bang on my door. I live in a city that bans solicitors but they still come by. Selling solar, energy or fiber optics or lawn care. One day I lost it when a second person stopped in the same day. The guy was trying to get people to sign up for newly installed fiber optics. I opened the door and started cursing. He said: "I bet the solar panel guy has already been here". That calmed me down and we spoke for a few minutes. Think I'll go order a button down shirt.

Contact points on inside of backing plates need a smigeon of axle grease on each pad.
And a dollop of grease on the threads of the automatic brake adjusters to keep them from seizing up
right tools make it easier done it several times i own a 1979 squarebody

Flexplate will work, just need a bushing for the hub of the torque converter for older transmission
You only need the spacer for the converter snout if you use the dished flexplate. The 6.0 flat flexplate doesnt require it.
