You should get a power window kit (like Jc Whitney used to make for crank door windows) for that back window. That would be an outstanding fabrication video, and it fixes that annoying issue.

Long shot, but the next time you hard start, go throw the temp laser (or your hand) on the starter itself. I had a starter that would saturate itself with so much heat it would act like it had too much timing / low or dead battery / hard starting until she cooled back off. Mine turned out to be a loose ground wire on the back of the starter that when shaking would arc and build heat on the ground post spreading to the rest of the unit. Good luck on the hunt!

Remember, grounds are your friends. I always run a ground from the battery to the fender, from the battery to the block, from the back of the head to the firewall, and from the engine to the frame. A heat shield will help between the starter and the exhaust.

Once the shop is fully operational and all the toys and equipment is back in the new house and in the new garage should invest in a floor scrubber with some industrial-strength degreaser to clean the floor and then lay down a nice sealer maybe some Thompson's WaterSeal to keep all the fluids from soaking into the concrete floor just my opinion and I hope you run with it thank you sir have a blessed day and your beautiful family

Us guys In the import car scene build folding wooden ramps to drive up on so we can get the lift under the car. You’ve been playing with wood a lot lately you just need a few feet of 2x6 and some screws.

To help with lowered vehicles on the 2 post lift you can go buy a couple of hard rubber stall mats and cut them into 8" or 10" wide strips (will be about 3 or 4' long) that you can stack into a pyramid to drive up on. Works a bit better then stacking wood blocks since the rubber grips the concrete better. Hopefully that makes sense.

Using a piston/engine stop to determine the real position of tdc is useful as todays new parts are often crap including balancers and timing markers, anyhow driving it will always tell the truth. Liking your vids!!

    • @badger_valley_customs
      @badger_valley_customs 10 місяців тому +1

I was about to comment this as well. Even using old OEM parts the marks can’t be trusted. The outer ring can sometimes slip on the balancer hub and there was different balancers that only work with certain timing tabs. Always best to use a piston stop and find the true TDC to make your own marks.

I d never admit to Thomas Mortske that I’d take his advice on most things but I did buy three of those Cyclops lights off Amazon at the beginning of this summer. Now i keep them charged up and take them out to the shop every time I go out. Between those and one of those ribbon style head lamps I’ve always got enough light to do the job. Big thanks out to Thomas.

Hang something circular in overhead to the right of the fiberglass car shell. I think it would be a nice transition into the lower ceiling part of the shop for the camera angles you shoot at . I usually run it at 4 degrees. You sacrifice top end power. But it starts easier when its warmed up, especially after filling up gas and the engine heat soaks for a couple minutes. You spend more time between idle and 2500rpm. So that's what I set it for.

GM offered two different starters, the standard one and a hi torque one. You can tell if you have the hi torque one if the tang that comes up from the housing is closer to the end of the starter and has a copper spacer to the solenoid.

it will overheat at idle unless you use manifold vacuum. you're using port now. time it with vac can disconnected then connect to manifold vac where you connected the gauge then lower your idle, because your timing will be advanced. if your idle becomes unsteady you need to change your vac can that is full in at your idle vac NAPA can help with that.

You did great with the lift you might want to get a pad for the left front tire that bolts to the floor where an average car will sit ( I believe there’s a measurement for it) then you can use it as a guide and park longer vehicles like your Silverado and Van in front of the pad and shorter vehicles like your Datsuns and Towrolla behind the pad.

Regarding the "electrical shock" thing, I've always called those "stingers". I get them in my left wrist from time to time and it really does feel like getting shocked by voltage. I had a fracture in like 1990 in one of my left wrist bones from falling while playing basketball and my wrist was the first thing to hit the ground. The latest time I got a stinger in it was when I was polishing my Corvette earlier this summer. See... nice painted vehicles just aren't where it's at. Had I been simply wiping on some of that Sweet Pateeener sauce it never would have happened! LOL!

As far as the hard start goes, 2 things. A heat shield between the exhaust pipe and the starter is needed. A heavy duty battery is a must. When I was a youngin' my dad bought a used '66 Caprice from a dealer. Never had a cold start issue but when hot the starter struggled. The dealer did a bunch of engine work and installed the heat shield. Was better but not fully. The dealer called in the factory rep who promptly said the wrong battery was installed. Dealer put correct heavy duty battery and the problem disappeared. Love the channel!

Glad to see the wagon getting some attention, honestly I’m not a patina guy myself. I’d definitely do a paint job on that wagon, it’s worth putting a paint job on and redoing the interior. I know everybody has different tastes so to say, but I’d rather see a nice paint job over patina but I’m also a paint/body guy too. It sounds like the fuel issue is because of the heat from the exhaust manifold and exhaust, and the hard starts too heating up the starter. Keep up the good work man.

To stop that steering leak install a washer gasket between the valve you installed and the reservoir housing . This build is looking GREAT!!!

Not complaining about any of your videos, cause you can make reading the wall street journal funny, but I do enjoy your vehicle content and workin with the crew. Always good to see you do stuff with the boys.

Idea for the hoist is to paint different color lines on the ground for different size vehicles. That way you get the car square right off the start maybe it would help I don’t know.

If you take a crescent wrench and a rag you can tweak on the hubcaps to make em fit better. Just an idea.👍👍
