  • 1964 Caterpillar D8 filmed working the land at East Midlands Vintage Working Weekend, Commons farm, Braybrooke, Market Harborough. 15th and 16th August 2009
The theme was International & Caterpillar, working crawler tractors demonstrating the art of working the land. This CAT was the biggest one there, Caterpillar D8 H 22A built around 1964 dragging behind it a Sub Soiler / Ripper used to break up the sub soil in a field thus creating better drainage, usually used after the soil has become compacted. This video demonstrates the brute force needed to pull this kind of implement up hill and down dale, something the big CAT has in abundance... Driven by John Holman

Boy oh boy, this old dog still has the power;...and nicely silenced engine too. I also am admiring that this one is such good general condition and with a cab too. Lovely tractor.

Thanks Walter, this was a great machine to stand and watch in action. It really did have to work hard in that field, the ground was very hard and it was on a slope, so coming back uphill was extra hard going. Not bad going for an old girl...

    …brute power
    most reliable workhorse imaginable
    thank you kindly
a thrilling experience to watch how carefully this Operator goes about his task of deep harrowing and loostening up the soil for further cultivation
And the CAT NÉVER misses a beat…
even uphill is just a ‘go go GO’ scene❓
    Thank you kindly again
    most enjoyable few moments
    Pse do some more❓
I wonder which year model this machine represents?
It appears timeless and well maintained
    EXCELLENT‼️

I know he caught me out a treat, didn't know he was intending to come my way. I wished I hadn't switched the camera off, could kick myself for that. I never quite seemed to be in the right place when I filmed most of this series of films. I kept cursing myself... ha ha. Thanks for watching and rating Bob

Thanks for a great comment, I hope you find what you are looking for some day. Only wished I could help you out more... sorry

Im guessing a good 18 inches, maybe more. Can you tell by looking at the contraption on the rear of the Cat?

that machine is nice and vary clean. have you see a D9 that's ten times bigger. what you can do in a week with a D8 you can do in a day with a D9.

  • @mikecheeseman97

Used to drive for Ces Walton over at Bosworth we had two D9's that had a modified ripper for mole ploughing had two blades made from armoured steel plate still got worn out pretty quickly the expander was a job because it came off then you have go over it again mole ploughed Bruntingthorpe airfield that was a job and a half hit a massive block of concrete for holding down B52 bombers that stopped the old girl in short order.

I'm told each shank requires about 40 h.p. each, there's 3 shanks, so 120 h.p. to pull this
    shank plow.

+Gee Dubb The filter is there and retained by that wing nut seen in the center. The element looks to have a radial seal around it too, so there may not be a cover, or it might be just a vanity/ decorative cover.

    • @truracer20
      @truracer20 5 років тому

The complete air filter is there and intact. The end of the element is gray instead of yellow is all.

Merci ... :-) Paul
