Very lovely edition. John Carpenter is most probably my all-time favourite director.

Hey Darren. Without a shadow of a doubt this is the most creative release I've seen from Titans of cult and like you said when they put there mind to it its amazing what they can come up with. Unfortunately there thinking caps were obviously not on for their next release. Looks terrible unfortunately. As for the thing on 4K it's one of my favourite 4K transfers and definitely recommend checking it out Darren. All the best my friend
That's one frosty looking boxset Keith, love the eerie opening music. The effects in this film were ground breaking. And the audio commentary on this one with John and Kurt is one of the best I've heard, I think they did it in their front room. I can't believe this movie is 40 years old and it never looks dated.

It's amazing 40 years old and I'm still blown away by how this movie looks every time I watch it. Honestly it's a testament to how good of a director John Carpenter is. Honestly I think this is Titans best effort so far. The outer box was fantastic but the Steelbook is something entirely different. I've never seen a Steelbook like it. Got this release delivered a couple of days ago and watched it straight away - it’s an amazing film that still holds its weight now as it did in 1982. The girlfriend watched it with me and she usually rolls her eyes if I want to watch any 80’s flicks but she was blown away by it, which is rare for her lol. Great release from Titans of Cult - I’m very pleased to own this 👍🏻

That steelbook is one of the best looking editions that I've seen for The Thing. They really need to re-work their rating labels since that's the only issue i would have with it but it is what it is and it's still incredible looking. Enjoyed the video Keith!

The THING is one of my all time fave films. It's brilliant and this set looks incredible. Like how the box looks like the frozen block of ice in the movie.

I've got to say that an absolutely brilliant steel book keith, Definitely one of the best ones that titans have got out!! Love the way you can see something behind the ice, But it's just but it's just a bit obscured, Amazing, and as you say the 4 k looks absolutely spectacular! Fantastic edition cheers Keith 🤩🤩👍👍

The outer case I thought was very clever and the Steelbook is without a shadow of a doubt the best steelbook I seen from Titans. I totally agree with what you said about the scene with the cabin lights being left on. It is definitely creepy and I think it is because it makes it clear there are things happening around them that are out of their control.

About the creepy scene, I'm going to look that one up.
The artwork is simply amazing. From the steelbook tot the slipcover. Very very very very nice.The artwork itself is worth the buy.
But if I'm honest, I never such a big fan if what Titans of Cult does with the rest in the boxsets. I never get the pins. What is that about? I don't care about pins or patches for on a piece of clothe. I'm not in a scouting group haha. Also have that feeling with the Event Horizon boxset. I'd rather want a booklet or a poster included.
Hey Robert. To be honest I only care about the outer box and the Steelbook. The patches the pins never made sense to me from the get go. When Titans first started you used to get a miniature sized Steelbook that housed your pin and that made a lot more sense to me but unfortunately they stopped doing it. I'm hoping someday they will go back to that.
For this edition honestly I think it's the best effort they've ever done. When you look at the outer box and the Steelbook in particular just amazing. Never seen a Steelbook like it and for that alone it's worth the money. Thanks again for stopping by and checking it out. Really appreciate Robert.

Yeah this is in the top 3 that Titans have brought out. In the 90's this was my nr.1 horror movie of all time, and still is in the top 10. Amazing looking edition and my will arrive next week I hope. Star Trek is again a bit of a letdown but it's the first 4k edition that I will own of the movie so it's ok. Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend Keith.

The whole movie gives me the creeps lol. Brilliant film but even after seeing it so many times, the whole mood and atmosphere always gets to me. The score is incredible as you said.
There is no question about it the movie is incredibly creepy but it is that one scene that really sticks with me. Like I said in the video I love everything about this movie. The cast is fantastic. The practical effects are phenomenal and the score by ennio Morricone is one of the best out there. Perfection in my eyes
Carpenters version of The Thing, REC, and Day of the Dead are my favorite horror movies. Great looking steelbook Keith!
I'm embarrassed to say that I have not seen REC yet. I've heard so many great things about it and I still haven't gotten around to watching it. Oh I never noticed the dog on the 4 of that pin when I unboxed it Keith, well spotted. I think it's easily the best looking titans release followed by maybe matrix and goonies? Great cover art and steelbook indeed and I thought when I saw it, it was the steelbook seen through the ice as some frozen flesh. A must own for thing fans.
Hey Steve. I absolutely agree with you and I would stack it up with the likes of the Matrix and Goonies. Honestly for me I think it's the best Steelbook they've done. When I first got this in my hands I thought it was the Steelbook as well and it's only when I open it I realised it was the patch. It just goes to show how good these releases can be when Titans puts a bit of imagination to it. Unfortunately their imagination is gone out the door with the next release of Star Trek.

Yes! You're not the only one who found that scene creepy! Part of what makes that movie work so well is not knowing eveything that is going on. Everyone's whereabouts can't be accounted for all the time. If they were to remake that movie today it would be very different. Today they have to show everything, leave no stone unturned and that ruins movies like this And you're right the practical effects in this are the best i've seen. I am one of those people who say CGI has ruined horror movies. And its not because I don't think they can make good looking monster or ghost with today's cgi (though most of the time you can tell its fake), its just that showing nothing and leaving it up to your imagination has always been scarier than any cgi apparition they can put on screen.

I have to admit Chris every single thing you said in this comment is perfect. Like you said everything nowadays has to be explained and nothing is left to the imagination and it spoils movies particularly horror. How many horror movies have we seen today where there was so much unnecessary CGI used when practically it could have been done better. I know it's a lot more work when it comes to practical and it can cost a lot more but when you see the results I honestly think it's worth it. Just look at the thing prequel. Now I have to admit I did enjoy it but the overuse of CGI really did ruin the movie for me and it's a shame because I think it would have been a hell of a lot more enjoyable if they stuck to the practical side of it. I agree with your comments about the cabin sequence. Just watched this recently and that scene is very creepy. I think the score adds to the eeriness of the scene.

Silent hill , Resident Evil ,Clock Tower, Fatal Frame , I have a CRT Tv connected in my games room and I often return to play them, classics . I thoroughly enjoy the videos produced here, it’s very warming to see a community who appreciate the great classics ! Movies are such a art form , I think you can relate a experience or a moment in time , place etc back to movies and that for me is what makes them timeless ! Great work 👍

I love this Movie and as a lover of melodic, electronic Music, i love the atmospheric Synthie Soundtrack. I have this Movie in a wonderful Collection Box, available in Germany (the green Box) from Turbine Medien. And i have also a blue looking 4k + Blu ray Steelbook of this awesome Movie.

On order, I have the Arrow 4k set and there was some back and fourth of two 4k transfers of this, the UK looking a bit more naturally warmer and the US version (Shout Factory) looking cooler, its going to be down to preference on which one you prefer but I am just wondering which transfer this Titans is going to be, any ideas or is it unknown as yet?
Hey Ethan. Be careful my friend because arrow Video have not brought out a 4K release of this movie neither has scream factory. Both companies brought out 4K Masters on Blu-ray but that is it. Universal is the version you want which is a proper 4K release as well as this Titans of cult release. Both of them have the exact same 4K transfer.

Hey Pete. Massive apologies my friend I'm getting my Studios mixed up. It's universal I was meant to say not studiocanal. The only reason why I said studiocanal was because they done the other four John Carpenter's movies that came out and they all look identical to the universal one

I had to go for the Steelbook. Cannot wait to get my hands on it and I've also pre-ordered the steelbook for Reservoir Dogs as well. That one in particular looks fantastic.
The steelbook looks very mediocre. Almost bad even. The slip is the classic with a noir touch. Slipcover is the clear winner. Did pre order the steelbook for reservoir though!
I have to admit you are absolutely right. But whatever it is with me I would rather pick up the Steelbook edition if there is 1 than the standard release. Honestly I think it's one of the most boring looking steelbooks I've ever seen especially when you compare it to the Reservoir Dogs one which is incredibly creative.

But I was very tempted for this release just because it's my favorite movie ever. So I almost felt obligated which is weird. Amazon pre order is still up, but I really like the slip. And yes, you're absolutely right, that reservoir steel looks awesome. I can't wait
I think that's why I picked up the Steelbook as well because it is my favourite Tarantino movie and I suppose I want to get the more limited release of the two. But Yes the Steelbook is quite poor

Btw i got Dog Soldiers limited edition what a cracking set and what a perfect upgrade to 4k from 16mm film amazing thats the second edition ive got from Second Sight (Flight of the Navigator ) being another i know you always say they do good conversations and on this one i wholeheartedly agree.
Hey Gordon. I went over to have a look and there was no way I was ever spending €150 on it. Actually know that I think of it they wanted €20 delivery as well. They will never get that and I actually had chances before to get it for well less than that. But thanks again Gordon for that and if you ever do come across another one please let me know. Great to hear that you picked up the dog Soldiers release from second sight and I can't believe how incredible that movie looked on 4k. I have the Flight of the Navigator release as well and I still haven't watched it yet. Second sight really do take their time with their releases and they put a lot of work into their transfers and it's quite easy to see when you look at dog Soldiers how much work they done on this release
Great review. I have mine and yes the artwork is exceptional. What was the thing remake film like as I never watched it. Is it worth a look ?
Honestly I think that thing prequel is a very enjoyable movie and a very faithful prequel. The only thing that's holding it back is the use CGI instead of practical and it's just not the same. But I definitely recommend checking it out. Guarantee you will get some enjoyment for it. My advice is to watch the original thing particularly the scene when they go to the Norwegian base and just remember a lot of what you see in that scene.

It's strange but a lot of people went into this movie instantly hating it. You can clearly see the director is a huge fan of John Carpenter's the thing and I thought he done a very respectful prequel and hopefully someday it will find an audience because I think it deserves it

This has to be Titans best release. I thought the outdoor case was incredibly clever but when you see the Steelbook itself it's just jaw dropping.

@@millerman9991 Of course I'll let you know my results. 3 or 4 weeks ago I accidentally left my debit card at the local shop. I phoned the shop and they definitely have it but I haven't been able to get it yet and the shop is only 150 yards away across the road!

They are a bit of an eyesore and thankfully they do come off. I don't remember seeing them on my other Titans releases. I must check that out
Such a film. Not a huge fan of Titans of Cult though. Too much plastic; straight steelbook release would suffice for me.
I have to admit I am a fan of Titans but I probably could do without the pins and the patches and posters you get. I find the outer case can sometimes complement the Steelbook. But thank you for taking the time to check it out

Film Arena is doing one as well, but is one of the worst things they ever put out. Hideous art. What a shame. They usually do really nice stuff.

I have that filmarena edition pre-order and it comes with the original artwork and I can't really ask for more than that. I'm very excited to get hold of it the only thing I wasn't crazy about was the Steelbook you get with it. I'm very surprised you don't like it

Nope. It is the same. The art on the slip is not original art. It is tweaked and not crazy about how they changed it. But you will get a lenticular magnet with the original art. :)
The steelbook is the World Wide Release, so we got that as a Best Buy release when it came out.
I am actually surprised you were able to get a pre-order in. Must have been a lot of people who did not want it.
The main negative about Film Arena is they give out numbers to people and you have to get EVERY release and you get that number. But the same person to get multiple numbers, just to resell, keeping other collectors from getting a number. You can sit on a waiting list while someone has 10 numbers.
I had a number for a short while but did not want 50% of the releases and had to get anyway and then sell. So dumped it. It was right before the Back to Future Maniacs box set, so missed that and will never pay aftermarket for it. Was too expensive as it was. I was able to get HDzeta's Back to the Future Box set and that is really nice.All good.
I just went over and check that again myself and you actually are right there is quite a difference. I think what happened with me is I just instantly notice the thing on filmarena and purchased without even looking at it. I've had a good look at it now and I still quite like it if I'm completely honest. It's always nice to get something a little different and chances are it probably will look a hell of a lot better once it's in your hands. Unfortunately I don't know when that's going to happen.

this movie is only very good from the monsters of rob bottin,but the movie itself its a bad movie,,transformation and flame thrower,again and againand when the monsters transformations begin the flame thrower dosent work as all we can see the monster nice and clearly then the flame thrower works again and burnnn
To be honest I think you might have missed the point of this movie. But that is your opinion and I completely respect it. Me personally I think it's one of the greatest sci-fi horror movies ever made. It's drenched in atmosphere and the cast is Fantastic and it's wonderfully directed by John Carpenter.
