You do such a great job with your channel! Your content is always helpful and fun to watch, your video and production quality is fantastic, and you’ve got such an infectious personality, one can’t help but feel good while watching. Showing your husband give you a kiss then pop the bead on your tire was perfect...and really funny! I live in Park City and grew up in Logan - years ago (I’ve got kids your age!). It’s fun to see your channel grow, and I want to share it with some local mtn bike FB groups. Knowing the numbers etc., which of your videos attracts the most viewers and can help increases your subscriptions? Keep up the good work! You’re an awesome rider.
Hey Brett - Thanks for your encouraging words! I’ve definitely been trying to improve the quality of my content and video. Yes it was a little sad but funny my husband was able to get the bead off first attempt. 😅 I would super appreciate you sharing a video. Any of my recent videos should work since they are probably the best quality or my Fender Test video has the most views and that’s a fun one too. Thanks for your support 🙂
The Betty is somewhat similar to a DHR II, and that also works really well up front, especially in sandy soils. It's what Brendog runs locally here in the Surrey Hills outside of winter. Swapping it to the back for winter makes a lot of sense. Personally I've been running a snakeskin Mary up front and a EXO+ DHR II rear in UK loamy mud (light casings since there are no rocks here), and it's a great winter combo, so the new Super Trial Betty will mean I no longer need to run mixed brands.
Those were my thoughts too with the DHR ll looking like the Betty. I have a couple other friends running the Mary and Betty combo now that it's a bit muddy and sloppy here and they are pleased with it!
Just found your channel and sub'd. Huge Schwalbe and Nobby Nic fan. With their latest releases, I picked up leftovers at a great price for me and my son.
I run the Maxxis 29x2.5 DHF & 27.5x2.4 DHR2 on my bike, every day of the year. Works perfect for me since 2007, although it was on 26 and 24 inch wheels back then.
Good video. I think they changed the Nobby Nic shortly after your review because it is rated as a 2.4 now. I think it’s going to be a good all-rounder. Using it rear now and going to pop one on the front for winter. On a yeti sb120 in England.
2.6 Schwalbe Hans damf speed grip supper gravity front and Contenital Mountain king 2.3 rear on my 29er hardtail. I tried it on soft ice and hard snow as well as mud and it does not complain
I’ve never tried Michelin. 🧐 I love how many tire brands there actually are. People need to step out of the world of Maxxis to discover some other gems!
You're a very smooth rider. Good review. I am branching out on tires. Been riding Vittoria Mazza F and Martello R in the Trail casing. They do really well and resist cuts and puntucres well. I had a lot of punctures withe previous Schwalbe casings. Hoping the Super Trails are better. Have Magic Mary and Nobby Nic in Super Trail Addix Soft coming. Must have been a little defeating when you worked so hard to get that tire off and your hubby popped it right off. Enjoyed your review.
Hi Mark! Thanks for watching. I hope you like your new tire setup. Also yes it was pretty upsetting he got my tire on so quickly, but it was at least over with! Haha
I feel your pain on trying to remove your Magic Marys. It's a struggle! I watched my friend remove them in one squeeze like your hubby did and was so envious!
Finally found someone that uses MM front and rear, I'll be on the same boat in the next few days as my friend gave me a MM 2.4 which I decided to put at the back and ordered a 2.6 for my front. I don't mind the drag it will create as I'm not competing in anything.
Great overview on the confidence of the Nobby Nic in the rear, I plan on trying out a Hans Dampf front in the soft super gravity casing as I'm 200lbs+ paired with a Nobby Nic blue speedgrip in the back for a bit quicker rolling trail/all mountain set-up both in 2.6 width
Awesome that may be my next combo to try. I ran the Magic Mary up front and the hans dampf in the rear and then ran both hans dampf front and rear... I want a little more traction in the front and was even thinking of the nobby nic in the front....so many choices!
I know tires are hard to find now days. Are you talking about a front or rear tire? a Nic is a little bit more of a summer tire but not the worst thing to run in the rear if you are desparte for a tire. The Hans D. would work too just try to get the softer compounds for the wet riding. It goes a long way. I have been riding a big betty front and rear (since again the mary is hard to find) and it has been working well! I hope this helps:)
Thanks for this review - it really helped me when choosing my tyres!. I've been riding an old mountain bike for over 30 years, and recently purchased 2 new mountain bikes for my wife and me with 29ers on them. The tyres that come as stock on them are great for cross country and road, but I wanted something more. We ride a mix of trail and cross country as well as some coastal riding on hard surfaces. I have been researching the Schwalbe 2021 range a lot, and arrived at the Nobby Nic to meet requirements as generally good all rounders, with a view to use Supertrail-Speedgrip 2.35" on the rear and Supertrail-Soft 2.35" on the front. The problem was that in the UK we can't seem to get NN in soft compound at the moment, so I thought I'd go for a more knobbly tread pattern up front that I could get hold of in soft. I didn't want to go for the classic Magic Mary, just as it's not ideal for hard surfaces. On watching your review I decided on a Big Betty Soft 2.4" for the front. Most of the documentation on the BB pattern does point towards rear, but your review and a few others also show good results on the front. After installing the NN rear and BB front as tubeless, I took my bike out yesterday on a varied climbing and descending trail (Gravel, tree roots, hard road, but mainly total mud). I am very impressed with this combo! The BB on front does throw the mud and the soft grip was excellent along with good rolling on hard surfaces. The NN held extremely well, and also threw the mud well. Both provided a much smoother ride over bumps with the grip I wanted, whilst not loosing much rolling. I am very happy with this choice. Thanks again!
Right on! I am glad the BB and NN worked out for you. They are some pretty great tires. I have been riding mine on a lot of rock lately in Nevada and they have been holding up well. Thanks for watching the review!
For super dry Colorado trails with deep gravel and sand over hardpack, I absolutely love the DHF front with High Roller 2 on back for my 26’ers. For my 29’er emtb I have DHR2 front and rear and it’s solid under the same conditions, but it is a slow roller by comparison.
@@FifeFlow I love it tbh, I live in Wales in th UK so the wet valley terrain is ideal for it. I've tried different tyre combinations but magic Mary and big Betty super trail are the best I've used expecially on the the steep terrain where there ar tight switch backs. Brill I can't fault you choosing to run that setup up. When you do I be looking forward to your review, as that combination of tyres they will definitely not let you down. I will never change from swchalbe tyres as I found my 2 perfect setups
I love my MagicMary and BigBetty/Nobby Nic combo. In SuperTrail they are also pretty tough. But they are a pain in the ass to get on and off Newmen rims.
I love to see it! New subscriber here. I live in Utah, thus it can get pretty dry here in the summer. Can get a little loose and dusty at times then of course get more moisture in the fall. Do you think giving the Magic Mary front and rear would be a good option? They just look so great! 😅 I’ve always been Maxxis guy but wanna try other tires 😎 Thank you!!!!!
2019 Fuel EX 5 Plus. I've had this bike for 1 year, the tires are starting to wear down a bit so it will be time for new ones before long. I might get Nobby Nics again.
Maybe try the Michelin wild enduro front and back. For me way better than maxxis 😊. Have not tried Schwalbe tires though and curious ti try one in the future 😊
Schwalbe has to be my favorite. I recommend trying out a Magic Mary. Favorite tire hands down for pretty much everything! Also I am glad I am not the only one that struggles with tires 😂
I've just moved to a MM front and NN rear, it feels so good! I was running continental tires thinking well their car tires are amazing so the bikes ones must be but they were a solid 5/10 the MM+NN combo is easy 9/10.
I have a tire fetish... For me, tires are also bike specific. I run different tires on my 29+ rig than I do in my 650b mule. Currently running the MM & BB in trail+soft on my 27.5 steed. I've always been a Magic Mary fanboi... I'm liking the Big Betty and how it performs so far.
Little bit of advice for getting tyres off the bead. Get all of the air out (like you did) then just step on the tyre at the bottom of the rim and your bodyweight will push the tyre off the rim and into the channel when you lever the wheel with your arms. Loved the review as well btw 😃
I just use tyre levers, they're less than 5bucks/£3 and I have no idea why people don't buy them if they're a serious mountain biker or road cyclist. Unless they just don't know, but then I'm thinking.. "Did your Dad never have them to show you that they exist and how to use them? What kind of a Dad didn't show their kid how to work on a push bike as a kid?" 🤷
Cool vid, nice work and pretty explanatory!! Looking for myself to weather I should go with f/r Big Betty/Big Betty or Magic Mary/ Big Betty... Here the trails are mostly natural rooty rocky downhilly quick ones so the Hans Dampf would have a hard time... The community around here rides maxxis but I want to have my own opinion and/or find something that I like so I try to be open minded to test all the brands
Thanks for some good input on the new Tyres! I typically ride more natural trails (more roots and rocks and less jumps/berms) and on my YT Jeffsy 29er I'm mostly happy with my Soft (Orange) Nobby Nic 2.6 up front and Speedgrip (blue) Nobby Nic 2.35 in the back. Most of my rides have transport sections and I'm usually out for 2-4 hours so the fast rolling speedgrip. I tend to ride the same combo all year around mostly cause I'm afraid of the drag penalty of a softer burlier tire... We're does the Big Betty sit in relation to Hans Dampf? Also, would you say the compound or the thread (or even the weight) makes the biggest difference on how hard it becomes to pedal?
I am with you Simon my favorite trails are the techy ones as well. I really liked the Nic and I bet it's great to run those front and rear. For me and where I am riding drag doesn't really seem to be a problem you just want as much traction as you can get. In Bellingham the trails are pretty steep so you want more stopping power and going fast isn't the issue it's being able to slow down to do certain features! I haven't actually tried the Hans Dampf. From looking at pictures I think the Betty's would clear better in muddy conditions, but it looks like the Hans has some good cornering knobs as well. I might have to get that tire sometime to try it out. I thought the Betty had good breaking traction and was trustworthy. It is not the fastest tire that's for certain so depending on where you're riding and your style of riding it might be worth it. I would recommend if you haven't yet try the Magic Mary it is like the Nobby Nic's older and more attractive sister. I love it for a front tire.
@@FifeFlow Thanks a lot for your in depth answer ✋ I've been building up courage to start dating Mary for quite a while now, seems like autumn will be the time to ask her out ❤
Great video really good advise my haibike came with no by nic 3.0 really wide/fat tyre and I hate them!!! I spend more time off my bike than on it as its really wet and muddy her in West Sussex England. This weekend I came off on slippery chalk as this is what the trails are near me!! But on my Trek ex 9 that I got second hand a few weeks ago it has continental trail Kings on front and back and I really feel planted and safe on it so I'm thinking I may put these on my Haibike. I really can't decide but I am drawn to trying the magic mary as heard lots of good things about these tyres!! Just be nice to ride and stay on😎😎 sometimes too much choice!!
Great video! Btw i will be using racing ralph 2.35 in the rear and hans dampf perf 2.35 in front. What are your thoughts? Thanks and Godbless! More power to your channel! 🤟
@@FifeFlow i am here in a tropical country.. mostly dry with around 80% pavement and 20% trail.. hope you can help me causd im confused on what tires to put on my hardtail
Wet season? Not familiar in Prescott, AZ 😂. I’m not too loyal with any particular tire setup but I’m currently running WTB Vigilante and Trail Boss 2.6. They’re working good but I just ordered a pair of maxxis Rekon 2.8 skinwalls to try something a little different.
If I had to buy new tyres, I'm debating between the nobby nic super trail speed grip and the Vittoria agarro. Also, those new schwalbe aerothan tubes are gonna be great. They are lighter than tubeless. And im a weight weenie, so when you can buy them, I'm gonna buy them.
The old Nobby Nic ( before 2014) was way better for front tire, now is ok , but for the rear only . The Big Betty is a legend, at least once upon a time... we'll see how will perform with the new design . For front - Magic Mary is still the best option ( SG soft or DH ultrasoft) .
Hey Danica! I just moved to Bellingham and have a Ripmo AF. I have Assegai front / Aggressor rear. I'm more of a "trail" rider who isn't looking to do anything overly aggressive. I like a lot of the XC trails on Galby with things like SST and Bob's down (I take B line still). I really want to explore Canada when the border opens, even trying whistler but taking it on easy on blue trails. Do you think the 2.6 Nobby Nic front and rear might be the right choice for me?
Hey William welcome to Bellingham! I haven't personally tried out the 2.6 version, but I have a friend that just loves the way they roll. I think as a trail rider that type of tire would be perfect. Canada is amazing. I also am looking forward to the border opening up!
In the UK, i'm trying out a magic mary soft + hans damf soft (f&r) for the weird, semi consistently garbage conditions we get. Hoping the mary will be confidence inspiring in the inevitable rain while the hans damf is a faster rolling but still mud capable rear. Looking forward to testing them out :D
I am getting a bike with Nobby Nic’s. I live in Vegas and need to know your recommendation for a front grippy Schwalbe tire i can add to replace the Nobby Nic on front. Thanks in advance...
I would get an orange soft compound Magic Mary. It’s a really great grippy tire! And the orange compound will last a bit longer on rocks vs the purple.
Maxxis Minion DHF 3c exo maxx terra on the front all year......... Rear swap between a Maxxis Rekon 3c exo in the dry and a Minion DHR 3c exo max grip in winter. Riding north of England and Scotland where the trails vary between dry on dusty all the way to deep muddy slop.
im about to try the magic mary-nobby nic combo ( not sure if 2.4 mary is a good choice though, i have 2.5 maxxis dhf before) but im excited. should have gone 2.6 or im fine? we ride galbraith most of the time as much as we can, thank you!!
@@FifeFlow ✔️ magic mary addix soft super trail, up front, nobby nic same compound rear and it gave happy trail day! very responsive! brakes good! thaks! also yeah my bike ( santa cruz hightower lt cc) felt faster easy to climb
The reason I found your video is because I've been running dirty Dan front and back I don't just trail ride I commute also and because of that I'm wearing the rear pretty fast but these tires are also super gravity ultra soft good grip on the trail but slow rolling when it meets the sidewalk so I'm going to order a nobby Nick and try running it on the rear once I wear out my dirty Dan at that point the front tire should be about the same profile as the nobby Nick so I can have a faster rolling tire on the rear experimenting to get the right grip for me but yet also move faster thanks for the video I subscribed and have a great day
Sounds like your "shedding"them to pieces. I've ridden my NN 2,6 up front and 2,35 rear for a few seasons without tearing any side knobs. But heard more people complaining. Both of mine are in Speedgrip (blue) and I'm planning at getting soft Addix for the fall (and also take Mary on a first date). Curious if I'll rip any knobs with the soft compound. But I mostly have rounded (and potentially slippery) rocks where I ride so maybe soft (and ripable) knobs is s good thing here (in Sweden).
Nice informative video, You sure can ride that bike ;~} I run Mary Addix soft (orange stripe) 29 x 2.3 upfront, snakeskin casing (so last year), with cushcore pro for grip (2.35 comes up quite narrow in the Addix version compared to the old Trailstar, DT511 rim) Wondering how that setup compares [as it has the cushcore in] - to the purple stripe super trail version (or is it only SG for purple? then maybe that) Aggressor 2.5 WT rear DD casing. Like you I am looking forward to trying the 27.5 Betty rear, now the trails are slippy. No cushcore in the rear, so perhaps the SuperGravity casing this Winter
The purple only comes in the SG casing. For me personally I don’t need the SG casing on any of my tires especially with cushcore in the rear but I love the purple compound so I compromise :) It is just starting to rain here quite often so I am going to be switching up my tire set up to a Mary duo or a Mary and Betty!
Been using Magic Mary/Hans Dampf for a while.. both around 900g in snakeskin version despite me weighing 220 pounds.. Thinking about trying the new Mary Super Trail Soft front and Nobby Nic SuperTrail Speedgrip or soft in the rear.. or just going for the hans dampf again in supertrail...
@@FifeFlow just ordered all three to try out. Really keen on finding out if the nobby nic has a noticeable lower rolling resistance than the Hans Dampf. As you said to another one here, ppl need to step out of the maxxis only world and I never liked the sidewall looks of maxxis. And because I am living in Germany, tried out Schwalbe and stayed with them. The Hans dampf had a huge improvement from the 2017 to 2018+ model. Hope to see another one again.
Hi! I've been riding Nobby Nic 29x2.60 since 2018 and I need something new. I don't like the Nobby Nic at all, after the first mud puddle I'm driving around 3 kilos of mud per tire around with me. Could also have a little deeper knobs because with my PW-X engine lose traction on the mountain on the rear in the mud pretty quickly. Does anyone have an idea? Is Big Betty the right one for me?^^

if you like the magic Mary up front try the dirty Dan super gravity and no you're not crazy I went dirty damn front and back super gravity on the backs a little too heavy and slow rolling I'm going to go nobby Nick on the rear super ground and keep the dirty Dan super gravity on the front I like a front tire that grips I want the bike to point in the direction I want to go love your stuff
Hate Nobby NIC as they don't survive long on our trails. summer I run Hans Dampf front & rear & Magic Mary front n rear in winter. In spring & autumn I run a magic Mary front & Hans dampf rear.....
Do you have a lot of hard riding? They redesigned them and you can get the harder compound. Where I am tires don’t wear out quickly so it isn’t an issue for me but when I went to Moab this year it just ate up my tires 😰

I've always been a Magic Mary fanboi... I'm liking the Big Betty and how it performs so far.
Dang I hope my Ice spiker pros come off that easy I'm getting ready to end the frozen season soon
🤞🏼
i like it pls make more and youre my insparation my biker crush
Haha thanks :) I try to put out a video every other week so stay tuned :)
@@WilkoLV I have tyre levers. But thanks for explaining tyre levers to me…
Good video. Useful info - Thanks!
Glad you found it helpful 😊
I wanted to see you install the rear with the Cush Core ;)
Hahaha it would have been a lot of tears 😅😅 My husband thankfully helped me with that as well. I need to start working out my fingers 💪🏼
@@FifeFlow I can't do it, off yes, on no chance
You’re not alone maybe I’ll start a support group 😂
@@FifeFlow yeah cushcore removal therapy! nice
Cool vid, nice work and pretty explanatory!! Looking for myself to weather I should go with f/r
Big Betty/Big Betty or Magic Mary/ Big Betty... Here the trails are mostly natural rooty rocky downhilly quick ones so the Hans Dampf would have a hard time... The community around here rides maxxis but I want to have my own opinion and/or find something that I like so I try to be open minded to test all the brands
Right now I have the Magic Mary big Betty combo and it’s pretty great!
Nice review!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Girl the best Front by mud is the Magische Maria magic mary. Front noch nic no great from austria West styria
I agree a lot of good tires out there but for wet conditions Marys always win in my opinion!
Good info, thanks!
I Have a Magic Mary and Its Awesome Definitely Buying MORE 😎
Hard to beat a Magic Mary!!
Great video! Btw i will be using racing ralph 2.35 in the rear and hans dampf perf 2.35 in front. What are your thoughts? Thanks and Godbless! More power to your channel! 🤟
What type of conditions do you ride in? It all depends on what you’re riding ( mud, rock, dry dust, etc.)
Nice got to experiment a bit for sure to discover what really works 🤘🏼
If I had to buy new tyres, I'm debating between the nobby nic super trail speed grip and the Vittoria agarro. Also, those new schwalbe aerothan tubes are gonna be great. They are lighter than tubeless. And im a weight weenie, so when you can buy them, I'm gonna buy them.
Nice it sounds like you have a plan! That is cool about the light tubes! I personally am a grip fan over weight so my tires are usually pretty heavy 😅
The old Nobby Nic ( before 2014) was way better for front tire, now is ok , but for the rear only . The Big Betty is a legend, at least once upon a time... we'll see how will perform with the new design . For front - Magic Mary is still the best option ( SG soft or DH ultrasoft) .
I agree Magic Mary’s are the bomb. 🤘🏼
@@FifeFlow thank you!
Nice! I’ve never tried the Hans damf so you’ll have to let me know how that combo works out!
You won’t even notice the difference, unless you’re a pro , all the tyres are good “ handles the trails” that’s down to you 👍🏾
I’m so jealous of the weather you guys have there! In the Uk it’s sooooo shit! 💩 always raining 90% of the time 😢
Hmm seems like a great tire combination!
Andrew Fife it is!
You eyebrow game is very strong, Danica san.
Haha what do you mean? 😅
Did you put these tires on before or after the cornering video with JKW?
After I had some bald Magic Mary’s when I was riding with Jeff 🙂
Maxxis No.1
You don't ride with tubeless?
I do ride tubeless and cushcore in the rear 😊
Maxxis Minion DHF 3c exo maxx terra on the front all year......... Rear swap between a Maxxis Rekon 3c exo in the dry and a Minion DHR 3c exo max grip in winter. Riding north of England and Scotland where the trails vary between dry on dusty all the way to deep muddy slop.
Nice! Sounds like you get the extreme ranges of conditions.
im about to try the magic mary-nobby nic combo ( not sure if 2.4 mary is a good choice though, i have 2.5 maxxis dhf before) but im excited. should have gone 2.6 or im fine? we ride galbraith most of the time as much as we can, thank you!!
I like the smaller tires they feel more normal to me. The 2.6 can be fun but they are noticeably larger which has its pros and cons!
@@FifeFlow 🙏🏼 thank you! and happy thanksgiving!🍁🦃
@@FifeFlow ✔️ magic mary addix soft super trail, up front, nobby nic same compound rear and it gave happy trail day! very responsive! brakes good! thaks! also yeah my bike ( santa cruz hightower lt cc) felt faster easy to climb
The reason I found your video is because I've been running dirty Dan front and back I don't just trail ride I commute also and because of that I'm wearing the rear pretty fast but these tires are also super gravity ultra soft good grip on the trail but slow rolling when it meets the sidewalk so I'm going to order a nobby Nick and try running it on the rear once I wear out my dirty Dan at that point the front tire should be about the same profile as the nobby Nick so I can have a faster rolling tire on the rear experimenting to get the right grip for me but yet also move faster thanks for the video I subscribed and have a great day
Hey Mark! Yeah a purple Dirty Dan would be hard to justify riding on sidewalks. I hope the Nic works out for you! Thanks for the sub :)
I have tried nics and hans in rear and with in a week I rip the side nobs off, have to stick with dhf or dhr2 double downs.
Shredding too hard I guess! Haha I don’t have that problem 😂 Yeah you gotta find out what tires work best for you!
Great video!
Thank you 😊
Great video! Loved the kiss 😘
Nice informative video, You sure can ride that bike ;~}
I run Mary Addix soft (orange stripe) 29 x 2.3 upfront, snakeskin casing (so last year), with cushcore pro for grip (2.35 comes up quite narrow in the Addix version compared to the old Trailstar, DT511 rim)
Wondering how that setup compares [as it has the cushcore in] - to the purple stripe super trail version (or is it only SG for purple? then maybe that)
Aggressor 2.5 WT rear DD casing.
Also I forgot to add - I find that I can run slightly lower pressures with the trail casing and cushcore compared to the SG casing in the rear:)
So also fan of cushcore only in the back :)
Yeah I am just a rear slammer 🤷🏻♀️
I like them magic Mary but wow so heavy
Yeah they definitely aren’t light 😂
@@FifeFlow you make me want to buy some more but just dying me on the damn climb if i am doing a 4000 feet of climbing

01:37 POP ! :-D
Haha yeah 😂 I was so upset there. I couldn’t get it for the life of me and Andrew just comes in and does it like that !
The Mary and the Hans sounds like a good combo. 👌🏼 I say go for it and try out a Nic I’ve like mine so far.
Is Big Betty the right one for me?^^
With mud in my opinion the Magic Mary is the best mud clearing tire. The big Betty isn’t bad but the Mary is the winner for sure.
@@FifeFlow ahahah crapp..okay, then I'll buy Mary too ^^ Thanks!

LMAO.

"yep"
"ok...." *POP*.
It was very disheartening 😭
@@FifeFlow you probably did 90% of the work and with your tired thumbs, had trouble popping the bead off lmao. So he told me to try and i barely grabbed the lid and it just popped open. lolol
if you like the magic Mary up front try the dirty Dan super gravity and no you're not crazy I went dirty damn front and back super gravity on the backs a little too heavy and slow rolling I'm going to go nobby Nick on the rear super ground and keep the dirty Dan super gravity on the front I like a front tire that grips I want the bike to point in the direction I want to go love your stuff
Thanks for watching! I have never have tried a dirty dan yet, but it looks like an awesome mud tire.
@@FifeFlow Hi. Yes we have a lot of sharp rocks in our area. Some granite, some basalt, some sandstone, but it's all hard on tyres (and bodies if you mess up). Not tried the new Nobby Nic yet but keen to have a look.
i cannot handle to see your helmet bands tangled up like that. It gives me a really uncomfortable feeling and anxiety. yes, i'm german. please fix that. thank you
Yikes! Sorry!
