No discussion on compound. It would be interesting to hear if a less aggressive but softer compound would bridge the gap between a between a faster rolling tire and a aggressive tire but with a harder compound if even available. Example. The Nobby Nic is not available in a super soft.
Nobby nic is my go to tire
Awesome to hear thanks for sharing.
I've been running the Magic Marry in fall and winter when trail conditions are softer and there is lots of leaf cover. The Marry is unbeatable in that situation. In the summer I switched to the Tacky Chan as trails dried out and I started to fold the side knobs of the Marry, the TC is great in those conditions with loose over hard packed trails.
I've run the Nobby Nic on the rear, but might give the TC a go on the rear this winter.
I've been very happy with all 3 tires.
Awesome feedback and thanks for sharing your experiences.
I would have loved to hear a tested answer about different front and rear combos. I used to run schwalbe with magic mary / nobby nic combo. When i started ripping the side nobs off nic, i went to dhr/dhf. My go to now is dhr assagai.
In the wet up here on the Shore that's what I run. But this summer in the dry harder pack I switched to a Dissector in the rear and it was fantastic. I also rode a couple of months with a DHF in the front, which was even faster, but a little sketchier.
What about "BikePark" tires ? at least for rear, I have very dry environment here (rains once per month), and I really consider hard and durable tire for rear (especially that I lock my rear wheel often to tighten turns)
We hope to get some soon
No comments on the application for the Big Betty?
dh lol............
Nice lol but yeah, you know what I mean. It's one of their top tier tires and I'm just wondering why it was left out of the conversation.
Thanks for asking and it was tough trying to pick what tires to Feature and not have a crazy long video. We love the big Betty and consider it an awesome all around Tire!! One of our go to selections for a rear. And then use either a magic or tacky depending on terrain up front!
It felt like the rep was suggesting the MM/TC combo when the TC upfront didn't fit specific terrain conditions. Really I was hoping to see where Schwalbe would put the BB up against the TC on the rear and it what conditions. Cheers, love your channel 😎
Stand by and we’ll get an official response compared to our experience and why we like BB out back.
Geez I watched this over lunch thinking meh I know all this stuff.. I learned a lot! Great video! I was confused by Tacky Chan and Magic Mary in the past but this really helped clarify and why I preferred the Assegai over the DHF so much.
That’s awesome to hear!! Thank you. We wanted to gear this towards helping people out and offering insight from inside the industry, so thanks for commenting!
Great info. Tires can be confusing and a bit overwhelming, but this explained alot.
15 minutes in and the word “grip” has not made an appearance. (Maybe once??). Amazing!
@Theloamwolf hey I live in Napa CA and was wondering what you guys recommended far as what tires (Schwalbe) I should run F/R.
So far I'm looking to get the Hans Dampf (R) and the Magic Mary (F).
What an interesting video! Thanks for tackling this common question for us beginner riders.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for letting us know you enjoyed it.
Just the video I needed! Great info and very well explained. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
What would be the best combination (casing, compound and tyres) for blue and black rated hardpack rainforest trails (aggressive trail to enduro) - roots and rocks, flow trails, drops and jumps. I'm 225lbs and my bike is a Spectral 29 (150mm).
Wish this was posted 5 years ago and multiple tire buys later.
Haha. Well now you’ve learned and experienced first hand the differences!
Im considering Nobby nic and/or wicked for my transition spur. Any suggestions? I want to make it more light trail/xc bike. I changed the stock tires to dhr2/ rekon and in finding im too slow currently compared to the prev combo.
I just love to say schwalbe lol
do you guys use cush core , or any inserts , tube less or tubes on your on personal bikes ?
Typically no inserts. We just rely on heavier duty casing if we’re in doubt.
Always tubeless!
If we do run inserts, we use MyneSweepers cuz they’re cheap and easy.
thank you
good stuff thanks for the vid!
Glad you liked it!
