Wow I love this! Thank you so much for making the video. I've been a longtime film shooter, have been developing my own film for a long time and have collected many cameras over time. I've been itching to learn how to repair them and this is a really helpful starter list for tools to get :)
Hi! Just found your channel and just want to say thank you! Your channel has be sooo helpful I can’t even explain. I would LOVE ti see how to fix camera I’m super interested I learning how to do it but just don’t know where to start. I have a few cameras that need so love but they really aren’t worth the price of repair (120-200) for repair. But I’d love to get in there and try and learn
Great presentation! One more thing that you can add to your maintenance toolkit is the lens suction pen/tool. Really good for minimizing the handling and re inserting of a lens once it has been cleaned cleaned. cheers
Wow its been a year and more since this comment. My AE-1 squeak was fixed with a careful lube of the internals, alas I have forgotten which part. But there are vids out there that show how to deal with the AE-1 squeak. My AE-1 is still going strong.
What is that mat called? A great video very interesting. There is a place to buy micro screwdriver sets but they are asking £70 do I need to spend that amount?
Very helpful! I'm actually planning on repairing my own Yashica D, it has fungus and dust on the inside of it plus a sticky shutter. Any tips or resources you used to fix this type of camera?
Just found your channel, already love the content and smashed that subscribe button! I just repaired a broken meter switch and battery compartment which was corroded ona Mamiya 1000DTL. I have other old cameras I want to tackle. That rubber matt is now in my amazon cart! Thanks for the info! One question, I have a Voigtlander Bessa T and for some reason the Color-Skopar lens will not lock in on the mount, its jamming when I twist in clockwise motion. Its seating in but it will only turn partially before its stuck? There are no obstructions, the release button works freely, the mount screws are tight. Im out of ideas 💡 Any thoughts?
Thanks for being here. no idea! it could be the threads or soemthing bloking the way. Sometimes these cameras have a button for activating the apputur rings after you put the lens on and that could be int he way
True, big difference between JIS crosspoint head used on Japanese cameras versus Phillips head used in automotive and other applications. The wrong tips will destroy the screw heads. The same is true of firearms: mechanics screwdrivers will destroy screw heads on old guns because they are angled, flat ground heads are needed.
Hey, Nice video its funny that i use everything you recommend for when i work on my cameras :D I only have a few more even smaller screwdrivers because the ones out of those sets are some times way to big and i use syringes and q-tips to apply oil or isopropanol (carefully!) For good ligthing i repurposed an old screen (using only the backlight and the diffusion layer - removed the panel) hanging on an adjustable monitor mount :)
@@film_friends honestly I would have been surprised if you wouldn't use them.. I just mentioned them because i think they are essential for more less every repair on every camera i have done till now and its funny how they are often forgotten (even if you just can't do annything without them) The lighting is one of my most usefull projects till now.. its quite bright dimmable and because of the diffusion there are barly any shadows blocking your sight :)
(Am channelling Peter Sellers on his withdrawals 2 his cars addiction); "I'm not a camera collector, happy with my LX & MX, my MESuper's up 4 sale, I don't want nice antique Rolleiflexes, I'm shooting not collecting, I'm down-sizing". Yeah right🤭.
I just shot my first ever roll of 120 film Kodak E100 on my Yaschica-C TLR! Woohoo! But I don't know how to finish the film and unload it ready to process...I know...yes I am serious...lol...help!
YeH! Congrats! All you do is just keep cranking it after it’s done and it will just spin rather thank click to the next frame. Then just open it up and you can lick the paper and close it
@@film_friends Phew the tension was unbelievable for such a small task! Now I need to develop it? I have a canister....? Did you do a 'Develop it at home' video....? Post link here please...
Illuminated magnifying glass or jewellers glasses, so helpful when peering into the depths of a camera.
Such a good one
would love to see you working on those TLRs!
I didn’t have much time to shoot that but if I get one for personal use I’ll do it!
Loving your vids, would love a video on the ae1 camera squeak fix!
Yes I need to make that one!
Instant sub. Great vid, would love detailed repair walk-throughs.
Thank you so so much!

Yeah you can do it! These help a lot!
Good video. That solder matt looks great! Working on a Canon P Rangefinder. Wish me luck 😊
I love that mat! Oh and i love that camera! get it working!

Just get in there! There are always some videos out there on the repair! I love getting into stuff like this
Great vid! I'd love to know more on an overview of oiling parts during repair. Looking to repair a ks-auto SLR.
Awesome!! I’ll try to help you with that!
Another great one!
Thanks so much!

that would be super helpful! I could have used that
I'd love to see a video on the AE-1 squeak, since I've got the squeak in my AE-1.
I really want to make that video! Lets do it!
Big Canon AE-1 fan so the upkeep and repair videos get a big heck yeah!
And mom is always right!
Yeah I need to fire that up!

Awesome video! What do you suggest using for cleaning and maintaining the plastic and rubber parts of exterior ?
I used some alcohol to clean some rubber exterior parts. That prob is the safest
Cool! I have a ton of vintage cameras but can't find any local place that can test and repair them
You can do it! It’s not as hard as it seems

You got this!
Just keep researching you can find someone doing it
Any tips to clean the "Yashica" part on front top section? it's like some rust or mold and can easily scraped but leave marks and residue
It’s really hard to do basically metal work will require some solvents and some sanding then buffing. That may destroy the leather though.
Do you have any recommendations for solvents instead?
instead of what?

Yeahh!!
What do you use to get this nice angle to record your desktop?
A backdrop holder and a magic arm
Would love to see the canon FD lens cleaning as a video.
For sure!!!
Filter Remover, filter thread repair tool, Antidust gloves, Dust brush, rocketair, lens sucker, shutter opener (same like spanner), .... rubber mat..
Those are great tools too!!
They have to be JIS head screwdrivers..not Phillips head ->>> FYI
The plus ones

Oh that’s an awesome lighting idea! I didn’t mention my cleaning supplies! I use that kinda stuff too!
