I've just realised that I'm so excited to be talking about this because it's such a big part of my life. I know and understand that it only effects me peripherally compared to those who actually live in a system, but it's been the most joyful and painful and curious and wonderful experience of my life. It can also be quite isolating because to protect them, you can't always talk about it or be open thanks to the stigma. It is going to take years for psychology to catch up to what we already know, and that's incredibly daunting and frustrating.

It's stressful. Especially if it's Darius, who is a heavy smoker. I've only actually heard his voice once and it was deep and RASPY. Or if our little is fronting, she just puts herself in dangerous situations all the time, I feel bad because she's an age slider (0-5) and most of it happens during her earlier part of that range. sorry for the rant, we just don't get to talk about us being a system too much.

Yeah, because he's a good person. We aren't shocked, we're impressed because a lot of people don't treat alters or those with DID with respect. In the comments of this video, and maybe even the camera man (with the intrusive zoom) there are people being horribly rude to those with DID, really just saying that they're faking it to seem special. I trust that they aren't, but a lot of the systems I know irl have dealt with horrible things from their families. You'd be surprised at how many people don't treat systems with respect. Something to keep in mind is that often, child alters usually only front when a) there is a trigger of something childish or bright, or b) the situation feels so safe and comfortable that the system doesn’t ‘fight’ the fronting of the child alter. Yes usually a system can’t control when which alters do and don’t front, but a system can (with experience) try to ‘monitor’ who is closer to the front, and can even try to suppress an alter from fronting if it may not be appropriate.
The fact that this child alter fronted in this interview shows that they felt comfortable and safe enough to front, and the system didn’t fight it because they felt it would be safe for the child to front.

@@Someone-km3mx that's a very valid question, thank you. every system is different, and for some systems who aren't as cooperated, alters may shove their way to the front, while some systems who are more cooperated have scheduled switches or switches that are agreed upon between alters. however, cooperated or not, specific triggers that are specific to the person/alter may also trigger out an alter. even very well organised systems may have uncontrolled switches, although generally less frequent than when they first discovered their DID. some alters are aware they are part of a system while some are not. and for those who are not aware, it is the duty of the system to inform and communicate with that alter that they are part of the system living in the same body. i like to write notes to such alters and place it around my room, to attempt to establish communication. as for what do alters do when they are not fronting, some may just have a consciousness blackout, some may lurk "near the front" and see what's going on with the alter that's fronting (called co-consciousness), and this varies from system to system too.

@@Someone-km3mx it’s really complex to explain it and it’s different for everyone. For us, I can interact with head mates within headspace when I’m not fronting. But I’m not aware of what everyone is doing while I am fronting. How our headspace is, we have a fronting room and that’s where you go to front. So when you’re in the room, no you dont know what’s happening. And it’s even hard to look into headspace and then say in the body what everyone is doing. Most times information doesn’t really connect to the body if that makes sense. For example, we have people who speak Russian and Chinese fluently but the body doesn’t know those languages fluently so when they front, they can only speak in English. Every alter can only do what the body can already do if that makes sense. We also have gatekeepers. These roles basically protect the fronting room and can mostly hear everything that goes on in the fronting room. So they will put in and take out who they think the body needs for whatever situation it is in. But yes there is some shoving involved occasionally. When we aren’t fronting we chill in headspace or our inner world, for us, we have multiple islands with different terrains, some even modeled after tv shows and stuff like that. We have businesses within headspace but don’t have currency. Mainly it’s like I help you, you help me deal. So for example, we have a pub for the adults, we have a bakery and candy shop, etc.

The brain creates the alters to protect her from some traumatic memories and those alters are based on many things. They can be based on some other person, a friend, an actor or even a cartoon character. Your brain perceives some traits other person or character has as role model suitable to protect her memories and uses it as a sort of template to create a new alter. The alters are actually like different people and if the alter takes over your mannerism, gestures, speach and sometimes even accents change according to which alter is fronting (taking over). It is well documented in all people with DID.

If you listen to yourself you’ll notice your voice changes a lot too. Not the best example but some days you’ll be more masculine some days younger or feminine. It's similar to how people with "chameleon" accents work. Say someone has lived in America, but also lived in Australia. When they're talking to someone with an Australian accent, they'll switch to that accent automatically.
It's also similar to echolalia, a phenomenon where someone will copy sounds, accents, words, etc while speaking.
When someone has D.I.D, and one of their "alters" has a very different voice, the brain kind of automatically adopts a similar voice to how it thinks that alter should sound.

@@howellaboutno9500it IS complex. So much in fact that it's still highly debated in the psychiatric community as to whether it's even real or not. In order to be diagnosed you have to meet the criteria one of which is amnesia and disassociation. Meaning you would have no idea that the altars exist and you would have no idea what was happening before you "switched" so what she's doing in this video is already contradictory to the diagnostic criteria of dissociative identity disorder. Also, in order to be diagnosed you have to be at least 18 years old and it takes numerous years I'm talking like years upon years upon years upon even more years to even get close to being diagnosed because it is such a controversial and complex and rare disorder. This girl looks like she's MAYBE 21. so, I find it odd that she managed to acquire a diagnosis for DID. Especially since her behaviors and claims are not consistent with the real diagnostic criteria of dissociative identity disorder. What she seems to be doing is mimicking the more sensationalized versions of the disorder that are displayed in movies and TV shows.

@@that_goth_bitch3899 That’s so stupid lol. Yes, of course you wouldn’t know… until you get diagnosed. If nobody ever knew, we wouldn’t know the disorder exists. But once you get diagnosed, you actively work to know when switches happen and your alters so you can live a functional life.
She has lots of videos where she talks about how she overcomes the amnesia. And she talks about dissociation all the time. Also she’s 27 years old.
You seem to be making a LOT of assumptions and generalizations about what someone CHOOSES to show on the internet to support your point. I don’t know why this is so important to you. I agree that there are lot of fakers out there, but I don’t think she’s one of them.
I think you’re doing more damage than fakers when you assume things about people’s pasts and mental states. This is UA-cam, where videos are carefully edited and recorded. Of course she’s not going to post her lowest moments. If it troubles you so much to see her, you can just not watch. Her success doesn’t affect you in anyway. And you don’t know the harm you could be doing.
I’m halfway through my bachelors in psychology. I really don’t need to be mansplained the criteria for D.I.D lol.

Encouraging this kind of behavior is damaging as is literally causing children to pretend to have an extremely debilitating condition… that is if it’s even real.
