  • Finally went to the hospital for my 2nd surgery to get the external fixator out and to have surgery for the trimalleolar fracture. After 3 hours in OR they put the plates and screws in my leg (13 to be exact).
After an overnight stay I was back home for another 2 weeks of bed rest and elevation.
The pain is real. Get a nerve blocker. Broken ankles take a while to heal.
This details some of the struggles I have to deal with now that I am non weight bearing for another 6 weeks.
    The steps..These darn steps...

How soon after your surgery did you start your exercises?

    • @TheHealthyYinzer
      @TheHealthyYinzer  2 роки тому +1

I think it was 2-3 days after the surgery. The home nurse came over tried to bend me in place. I started with no range of motion and after her bending me around it was a night and day difference. You will definitely need some assistance with the first pt session because your body has no idea what muscles to turn on.

How long did u have the stitches in for? In 2 days it’ll be 2weeks post surgery and I was wondering if they clip ur stitches or they jus dissolve over time?
It’s been 16days post surgery, apparently they used staples not stitches 😭 7screws and I casted up. Hopefully be ina boot in 2,3weeks im just watching your videos to help set my mind at ease. 🙏🏾
Week 16 I’m smoovin, can’t put my knee past my foot yet as if I were squatting but I can walk while pivoting. I can speed walk kinda trot, cant run tho. Got some more motion. cant jump and land with balance yet.

Omg. Your amazing. With my trimallorial fracture I have had to miss work as a massage therapist. I am currently weight bearing at about 11 weeks I am still in PT therapy. Thise crutches are alot of work. I have used a knee scooter but I want to go back to work and i need to he completely off of it. It has been hard gettinf my gait back for sure and has mentally afraid i will hurt the ankle again. 😢

Thank you for your kind words!! It’s a tough recovery but with the right mjndset and motivation you will get there. Just keep remembering your “why” and let that be your driving force. I know you are eager to get back seeing your clients and you’ll get there! When you do- it’s gonna suck for the first few months. But once you get though that there is nothing stopping you

When you had your external fixator removed was it painful? Did you get sedated? I had mine removed in doctor's office. He offered me nothing no sedation not even Tylenol. The pain was horrific upon removal. I thought I was going to pass out. I was so angry at the doctor for putting me in that situation.

    • @TheHealthyYinzer

Wait what?!?! They did that to you in an office? When they took mine out they replaced it with the screws and plates. I would be horrified.

This video is excellent, wow. Super impressive. Not sure how you could have filmed that in your condition, especially the part going and down the stairs. May I ask, have you retained your musculature on the injured leg?

Honestly, I felt as if i needed to do something before i lost my mind. Sitting in bed all day taking painkillers and injecting daily blood thinners takes a tool to your mental health. Making these videos helped keep my brain going in which I think translated to my recovery.
I am making a 1 year later video to see my progression. I will say being an exercise physiologist allowed me to build the body up correctly. I am in no means 100% and i dont think i ever will be, unfortunately. The latest doc visit said i can run anymore due to chronic arthrits in the future.. so thats a bummer.

Do you play in sand or hard court? The sand might actually work in your favor because of the impact. You would just have to worry about the change of direction. Just remember to take it one day at a time you dont want to have any setbackss
