Hmmn, I'm listening to music over 60 years not sure if Steve is the greatest. Tho a big fan of his. There's, Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley Righteous Brothers. Roy Orbison, Grace Slick, Dusty Springfield, Linda Ronstadt, Tom Jones.
Yes, Steve Perry is great but "greatest of all time" ? That is objective, He is one of the greatest of all time, but you can not really put just one person as the greatest above all else. If you are a real music connoisseur then there is atleast 10+ that actually tie for 1st place.
Steve Perry as lead singer his nickname The Voice and for very good reason as you can well see. Steve Perry and Freddie Mercury are the two best voices in rock and roll in my opinion
Agreed, but Jimi Jamison from survivor is up there with them, so sad that he passed but probably the most criminally underrated vocalist from our generation..so many hits that people forget!!!
That voice! I grew up listening to Steve Perry and Journey. I can't believe this video is 40 years old. I feel old. But damn, we had great music back then!
Listening to Steve Perry's voice alone should let you know they are not the "opening act". OMG, his voice is gold, Neil's guitar playing is EXCELLENCE itself. Best band ever.
Steve Perry is literally a PHENOM. He is a altino counter tenor which is extremely rare. He has a five octave range and perfect pitch. He has lungs like a race horse so he can hold notes FOREVER! His total control of each note he sings is amazing. Listen to Mother Father from the same live album. It is a stunning performance.
@@cindyshawver9986 Basically...a tenor altino is a subset of a countertenor. The range starts at the top of tenor and goes to alto and soprano. Steve can hit notes that a lot of women can't. His voice is very rare.
Guitar player played with Santana starting at 15 yrs old. He and a another player left and started Journey. They were a jazz fusion band but bad record sales. Manager- Herbie Herbie, brought in Steve Perry, he had listened to a tape from Steve. They needed hits, or, no more record company! When Steve, came in, great things started happening and on the record charts. Journey rocks, with Perry coming in Great songwriting between the guys in the band,,, and good sound together. They were Up and touring like crazy.
Love me the original Journey and Steve Perry, you haven’t heard the range of his voice yet. Another rabbit hole to explore the first album called “Infinity” is a must hear ! Also Mr Perry just came out with a solo album a year or so back he was 70 yrs old and still sounds amazing IMO
The CD is good but you really want to hear the acoustic version. Perry has a number of them on his site and does some explanations of how they were done, which I wish he would do more of and make them into a set. I was shocked at the difference in the sound quality and clarity. Perry may have been 69 when Traces was released and it is a mature voice but some fine tracks.
Traces is incredible. The timing of it was perfect for where I was when I heard it. He has sung my life's soundtrack and I think Steve's timing as usual was perfect.
There is another video of Steve singing this on his solo tour in 94 and its excellent. Greg Rolie was the other member who came from Santana and he did lead vocals before Steve Perry came to the band in 73.
Journey goes further back than Steve Perry. Don't get me wrong I love Journey with Perry: the Escape album came out when I was eleven and I must have played that thing a thousand times. Try some pre Perry Journey albums, you might be surprised how great they were then as well. Look Into the Future might be my all-time favorite Journey song.
At the time of this concert in Nov. 1981 their album “Escape” was the no.1 album in America. So they would have definitely been the headliner. A year later they were voted the no.1 band in America by a Gallop poll.
Saw them and George Thorogood open for The Rolling Stones in Buffalo, NY at Rich Stadium in Sept 81, so yeah this was them headlining Houston after the Stones shows
I was in high school at the time this tour was on. Shortly after this album came out my first child was conceived to Open arms, I was 16. Although her mother separated I will always get a lump in my throat when I hear Steave sing
Simply put Steve Perry is the GOAT of Rock singers. Escape sold over 33 million copies. So yeah they were the headliner. I actually saw this tour and the opener was Brian Adams. Pretty great show!
Saw this tour in Vegas, was awesome from my nosebleed, stand on my chair, seats 😆 Brian Adams opened but acted like an asshole. He kicked something off the stage into the crowd, crowd threw back a beer bottle, which just barely missed him. He threw the bottle back at the crowd. I was like WTF. Have some class, stop the BS and sing. He only did 1/2 his set. I've never liked Brian Adams since then.
If you really want to blown away you HAVE TO watch/hear Mother Father by Journey from that same 81 Houston tour!! Steve Perrys voice is amazing & is rightfully known as "The Voice". Yes they headlined! Check out 1978-79 Chicago tour, they sold out the 78,000 stadium in a little over a day
I love this song.. the 80's was the best decade , I was born in 80 and I wish I had been born in the 60's so I could have experienced all these great bands in concert in their prime as an adult .. today's music does not hold a match the era of the 70's and 80s..
So great your enjoying this for the first time... Bro I will keep watching you if you keep reacting not only to things like this but all the music before your time.. So many things to listen to and understand where all the good stuff came from.. We appreciate you very much
Journey filled stadiums. They went on multiple concert tours. They were worked like dogs, which was a small part the problem. Perry was injured and burnt out by the end of the 80s. You should also look up Heart if you want to see amazing female vocals. They are unbelievable. She still has her pipes today.

I saw Journey live in Philly in ‘86 and they are hands down the best live band ever. His vocals are world class. They actually sound better live than they do in the studio. New subscriber. Escape was Journey`s seventh studio album and the tour was to promote this album. Most Rock bands do this. Nice to see you checking out this great band, there will be a few songs by this band you will have heard.
FortWorth, OMG yes Journey opened they're own tours. This album went #1 less than a year after it was released. This was a MONSTER tour. This album had Dont Stop Believing on it and we ALL know that song 😉 I appreciate your honesty and freshness. Who's Crying Now was they're first release from Escape, beautiful soft - medium ballad. Perry's chords were AMAZING 🤯
I totally agree with you. He almost seemed bored through the reaction. How could he listen to this group and ask if they were the opening act, showing no appreciation of Steve's voice and cutting off Neil's out of thos world solo. Geeze. Big yawn for his "reaction:.

Hi! I'm a long time Journey fan. Journey has alot of amazing albums under their belt!! Journey has 2 live albums out the Captured live album in 1980 which was the Departure album tour. And is only a live audio album. And the Escape album which is what you are watching now. There are so many great songs to react to from Classic Journey. Steve Perry was their lead singer. The Escape album took Journey to new heights!! 1981 was the year for Journey!!! And the band was in their prime!! Another album that took off for the band is their 1983 album Frontiers. With such songs as 'Separate Ways (Worlds Apart), Send Her My Love, Faithfully, Chain Reaction, and After The Fall' And that's just the first side of the album!! I hope you enjoy this amazing Journey! It will be a grand of a Journey!!!

Steve Perry is right up there with Freddie when it comes to vocals. Freddie will always be #1 to me though. 😉😍 By the way, can you please react to "Staying Power" @ their Milton Keynes concert. You'll like Freddie's performance. Thanks 🤗
I’m gonna have to put Steve higher than Freddie. The reason I’m putting Freddy lower than Steve is because Freddie’s voice gets thinner as he goes higher in my opinion. Steve when he goes on those runs up the higher register are always very crystal clear, full and smooth. That being said, Freddie Mercury was the greatest front man of any band. He had control of the crowd in the palm of his hand
Neil is from Santana. They were hot when I was in high school in late 1970s. We had 8 track tapes and huge back window speakers and thought we were so cool playing our own fav music instead of just the radio. Fun times when under age drinking was accepted and the cops would just stop and take our booze and tell us to be good kids and leave. Another booze run....

Steve Perry has a unique sound and he owns it he's second to none and that's facts because he sounds better live. You really need to listen to Steve Perry latest songs called ""IN THE RAIN!!! ""I NEED YOU!!! & YOU BELONG TO ME!!!: his voice sounds raspy BUT he has mastered it unlike most of all rock bands loose their voices because of singing for so many years but not Steve Perry those songs above that I mentioned are bone chilling because you can feel the pain in his voice. A woman who he was deeply in love with passed away from breast cancer in the early 2000s and they had been together for less than two years. She asked Steve to make her a promise that he would not go into isolation and sing again for his fans that is facts because I heard and seen Steve Perry in a interview
🔥
I was at this concert but at Pine Knob! Yes they mained! Steve Perry.
Yes it's Thier show!!!
Not a soul on earth can give me goosebumps like Steve Perry when he sings!
Steve Perry is the greatest vocalist of all time! 🎤 You should react to Mother Father from this same concert. Outstanding!
"The Voice" Steve Perry should have trade marked that. Journey the best and Steve his is my heart.

Headliner was journey opener was Lover Boy. I was 16 and this was my first concert.
they werer the head liner ..this tour and the folliwing in 83 they might of been the biggest band in the usa!
Journey was the headliner. Best of the best at that time......even to this day, no one can compare to Steve's vocals....

STEVE PERRY IS A LEGEND!
