When watching Seinfeld, the first and last are not the greatest to watch. There are a lot of really amazing and funny episodes in the middle that are much better than the pilot and finale.
To be fair to the show, the first season was kinda slow but it became nonstop hysterical after that. And the finale was not great but I can’t even imagine it making any sense if you haven’t seen all the episodes that are referenced in it. I agree with the person who said you should watch the top ten episodes. You won’t regret it!
@@lexkanyima2195 I think that’s kinda rough to say, Frank Sinatra was rushed to the hospital the date the last episode aired and the ambulance made it in record time because everyone was home watching it
the first and last episode not exactly the best episodes of Seinfeld lol. Ive seen every episode of Seinfeld multiple times. you can always find reruns of Seinfeld on TV. the 2nd season is when it starts getting really good. most film/TV before the mid 2000's is going to be in low def below 720p.
Larry David said the two rules when writing Seinfeld is No hugging and NO learning. I find these two rules were the keys to keeping the characters fresh through all the seasons.
Yep. Basically they wanted to be the anti-Golden Girls (and I don't believe they meant disrespect to Golden Girls, since it's a classic; they just didn't want to end every episode with everyone saying, "Oh, I love you all" and eating cheesecake).
Now she can re-watch it as a whole and uderstand the ending, how it builds. People come to love their fav shows usually the second or third re-watch, and they alredy know the ending
@@h5y878 I've loved most of the shows I'm a fan of before I finished watching them for the first time. If you're not a fan after watching a whole sitcom, why watch it a second time?
You can't appreciate the whole Seinfeld season without walking through the characters' development, backstory, motive, details, of each happening in each episode, the continuous references to the previous situations in their jokes, and much more variables. The point is: you'll have to watch all of them (at least try to watch the whole first season)
"George is a supportive friend". Oh how I laughed, and laughed, and laughed. Thank you for that. (You have to watch the middle episodes to understand why i am laughing so hard at that idea.) :)
Jackie Chiles was based on Johnnie Cohran, one of O.J. Simpson’s lawyers from his infamous murder trial. He had represented Kramer before in lawsuits against a coffee shop chain and a tabacco company, and Kramer screwed him out of claiming major victories by taking dumb settlements both times. And the judge being named Art Vandelay is a callback to the fact that George regularly used that as a fake name throughout the series.
This is why she needs to watch all of it or just don't bother. Art Vandelay, H.E. Pennypacker, and Kel Varnsen are running jokes that can't be explained. It loses its cache.
33:26 A thing with this show versus many other sitcoms though, especially the more current ones, is that they actually filmed in front of a live studio audience. So the laugh track is actually people laughing at things that are funny, not just something that was added later in post-production so that you know where and when they want you to think that something is funny. It makes a big difference.
Kramer is hilarious, he's just an absolute weirdo. But George's parents... man they were awesome on that show. George is my favorite character, as deeply flawed as he is.
This probably isn't the best way to be introduced to Seinfeld. Firstly, it didn't really hit its stride until season three. And the final consisted of callbacks to episodes you haven't seen, but is a goodbye to the fans. I suggest "The Contest" and "The Outing" from season 4
I recommended Seinfeld to my roommate years ago, and I told her to start with Season 2. Because as a premiere, it's a great introduction to the series. "What happened Tuesday night?" "I saw your act."
If something is considered the best sitcom of all time, you'd think someone would want to watch it properly instead of just the first and last episode of it :/
Truthfully, this show took a while to hit its stride. You watched the first episode of season 1 and the last of season 9, prior to and after the shows peak. (Seasons 3-7 were the peak seasons.)
I remember how hyped the final episode was. Leading up to it, they aired a "best of" special immediately before it, which was great... until we found out the final episode was just a glorified "best of" episode.
Episodes have jokes and storylines that continue on for a long time. It's very connected, even if individual episodes each have their own events. I'd never recommend someone just watch a random episode in the middle of the series, for example. It just won't be as funny to them as it would have been if they had been along for the whole ride. Then they'd walk away from it saying that they didn't think it was as good as they hype for it.
This show is one of the few sitcoms out there whereyou cannot watch just the first and last episodes to understand what's going on. This show, unlike many others, does infact have continuity and character flow, which leads everything up to their ultimate demise for being such horrible people in the final episode. The entire show covers various everyday situations that we all experience, and the discussions that come with those situations. You'll learn a ton about men, and you'll learn a ton about life. It's one of those shows that you really just don't expect to be as deep as it really is.
12:25 "I don't wanna judge too quickly." Well obviously you can't judge a long running show based on just _one_ episode. My favorite is NewsRadio, the hipster choice in the "Friends vs Seinfeld" battle of 90s sitcoms.
ROFL! Mary says George is that "supportive friend" we all need! LOL!! You clearly gotta see the evolution of the series as the characters develop - they're all narcissists! :-P
This FIRST and LAST episode thing doesn't really work for me. TV shows invariably become something very different from what you see in the FIRST episode. In the first episode of Seinfeld, you are really seeing very early permutations of the characters. They are not fully realized yet and if you watch the series they are quite different from the iconic characters that fans of the show know. Also, some shows DON'T stick the landing and Seinfeld happens to be one of those show. The finale was panned. So, in a way, you watched Seinfeld....but you didn't. At least not in the way most people know the show, or at it's best.
Seinfeld is the one comedy show that never really jumped the shark. Meaning, it didn't have a breaking point where it got considerably worse or started going off on tangents like dramatic relationships and marriages or developing other sappy storylines. They stuck to the roots, kept that comedic tension, and didn't stray or pander to mediocre story developments (like for example Friends where everybody started getting married, having kids, and stopped being funny). Seinfeld got a little weaker in the last season or two, but never cringy or bad. It just dropped a level or half and they decided to end it while it was still strong. Watching the top 10 episodes would be a pretty great experience following this intro as there were some very clever, funny, and even shocking ones (as in you were shocked that they pushed things that far back then). Definitely along the same lines as Curb Your Enthusiasm, but maybe a bit more colorful and inventive with the storylines. The Office is great too, so if you liked that, you would like the bulk of Seinfeld. And even the Office jumped the shark, with Jim and Pam getting married probably being that moment, and was kind of worse not long after and definitely in the last few seasons.
Seinfeld IS the most iconic comedy of all time. Nobody is even close. I think you have to appreciate observational comedy and some familiarity with NY culture to really appreciate.
The Seinfeld finale is one of the most disappointing series finales I've ever seen -- and the *Seinfeld* cast & creators generally agree with that. They even made fun of it on an episode of *Curb Your Enthusiasm,* where someone asks Jerry Seinfeld what he would do differently if he could make the finale again. And he says, "Well for one thing, I'd make it funny."
Strangely enough I recently saw a clip of Julia Louis-Dreyfus on the last episode of David Letterman where they asked her what’s something she wanted to say to Dave and she says “thanks for letting me be a part of a disappointing series finale again” and Jerry is standing behind her and you can see him die inside
Once Season 3 started, this show was unstoppable and you’ll see why it became one of the greatest sitcoms ever! 😂 You should look up the Top 10 episodes, and you’ll want to watch them all! 👏🏼👏🏼😂😂
Definitely. The first episode, they didn’t know what they were doing just yet (I mean, it was a pilot episode that aired way before the rest of season 1, and Elaine wasn’t even on it yet), and the last episode was a good wrap-up but not a great one. You should watch all the episodes that are referenced in the finale just to know the stories behind the references.

You cannot judge this show or get the feel of it by watching the first and last episodes because during the multiple seasons of the show because there were so many characters and funny moments that have gone down in pop culture history.
Seinfeld is a fantastic show. I didn't get into it until after they finished the series, but now it's available to binge. It takes a few shows to kinda get to know the characters, but they establish their personalities as the show goes on which makes it much more fun to watch. Very quotable and a big part of pop culture.
my favorite 90s sitcom was 3rd Rock from the Sun, about a group of aliens disguised as humans learning about being human (cast included Joseph Gordon-Levitt)
Best show ever. My favorite always will be. Watch more of em...you'll be glad you did! PS I bout spit out my drink when you called George a good supportive friend lol.
Great concept. Comments are hating but it's not that serious. Finale gave a good synopsis of the show: Wise-cracking, crude and talking bullshit same as Curb Your Enthusiasm. 😂 George was basically Larry David writing himself. Seinfeld was himself exaggerated. The show didn't really hit its stride until Season 3. Then it was banger after banger. Trust me. 🍿💕
Seinfeld has a lot of callbacks like Season 5 episode 7 will have a callback to Season 2 episode 1, so watching the first episode and last won't be funny. Watching one episode could be funny but it would be way funnier had you watched all the shows prior, because of the numerous callbacks, during the shows 9 season run.
A perfect episode that showcases all of the characters is season 4, Episode 18: The Old Man It's one of the Larry David written episodes, everyone is in it including Newman. 😊
In my opinion, you CAN overdry. Overdrying clothes makes them smell like the heating element. I like to slightly underdry them. It makes them smell so awesome, depending on what you used for detergent & dryer sheet. Try it!
The fact the 4 main characters are not particularly good people is a driving narrative for the show. If you watch it play out over the entire series it’s actually fascinating. It really plays into so much of the humor of the show, because there’s something both satisfying and hilarious about seeing shitty people getting the proverbial “pie in the face”. George in particular was my favorite to see get his. The fact he worked for the Yankees may have played a part in that, but it just added to my laughter.
The thing about watching the last episode without viewing some of the others, is that you miss out on the inside jokes. The one episode that would have been a good one to start with is "the Contest."

This is great that she is reacting to the last episode its like she's one if the people in court gearing all these stories for the first time😂
In my opinion, you CAN overdry. Overdrying clothes makes them smell like the heating element. I like to slightly underdry them. It makes them smell so awesome, depending on what you used for detergent & dryer sheet. Try it!
It's a travesty that BING would have anything other than Friends at #1
The fact the 4 main characters are not particularly good people is a driving narrative for the show.
This is the nicest way I've ever seen someone say "Fuck the Yankees". 😂
If you were to watch one single Seinfeld episode, it should be the Contest, hands down. So damn funny
Have you seen the original version of The Office?
You absolutely should watch some of the best episodes.
"According to Bing"
The thing about watching the last episode without viewing some of the others, is that you miss out on the inside jokes. The one episode that would have been a good one to start with is "the Contest."
Sometimes I'll put on a random episode of Seinfeld. You should watch select episodes. I nominate, The Chinese Restaurant.
