    I had the cassette demo of this that I got from harley right after it came out - I played it so many times the tape wore out. Saw them live almost everytime they played Cb's back then, and while I saw almost every single NYHC band back then, besides the Bad Brains, the Cromags shows were the most intense thing I ever experienced.

      What were Reagan Youth and the Nihilistics like?

    • @carybrief5874
      @carybrief5874 Рік тому +1

      Amazing Reagan Youth still get my blood boiling all these years later nihilistic the same. I’ve seen a lot of shows in a lot of places overall long many years and there’s three or four years in New York City in the early 80s will never be replicated. CBG bees who is the center of the scene and had an amazing sound system and almost all the guys at work the boards were in vans, so that made a huge difference. For instance, Tommy from prong what is the sound guy for a while. It was such a small club you could smell the band, even if you didn’t want to the band was pretty much on top of each other the stage were so small, and it took a special skill to get from the door to the stage once the show was going, there was no room. It was almost always packed to the gills, the only vans I didn’t see you there were bad brands and flipper bad brands cause I didn’t play there after I started going to shows I think until close to the end and flipper cause I wasn’t willing to pay the seven dollars when it was usually five I totally regret not spending that two bucks

      @cary brief I saw the Misfits reunion in Dallas last Halloween. What were the OG fits like? I heard they were not that great live. But other people told me the shows were so violent you stopped watching Glenn, Jerry and Doyle. You just watched zombies and Mad Max types fuck eachother up.

    Harley was the Steve Harris of Hardcore, a bass player who's playing WAS SO RAW, it cut through the guitars & drums & like Steve, Harley had that great stage presence, all over the place getting the fans going.

      Great comparison. Maiden was one of the tightest bands as far as pure musicianship goes as well.

    Remember walking by this dilapidated punk rock party house in San Francisco got to talking to some people in the front and told them I knew someone in there and they let me in, place was an absolute wreck and remember smelling gas in the kitchen stove - miraculously the place didn’t blow up, and got to talking to one bad ass looking tattooed dude and asked what music he liked he starred and said two words Cro-Mags. Had never heard of them but knew I had to check them out. A thing I’ll always remember how the hell I was able to get in that house and make it out was beyond me. John Joseph’s books and PMA have always been such an inspiration and woulda never knew if it wasn’t from that dilapidated party house lol

    it has been a decade probably since I have heard this entire record and it still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. right before they came on stage the funeral music from the Queen from Clockwork Orange would play. A bunch of us would be pacing in the pit waiting for Harley"s slamming Bass and John Bloodcot to come barreling on stage and then everything would erupt. Almost 30 years later hearing this brings it all right back. That time was the Golden Age of NYHC

    I used to own this cassette I bought it at a Cro Mags show for $5. I used play it at Manhattan Beach Brooklyn with my friends and all the Guidos would leave for get about it. this was so much better than the album it is more realistic like it was recorded live.

    • @caryncbreeef1969
      @caryncbreeef1969 7 років тому

      yeahI had the cassette too - wonder who stole it - wish I still had it. bought it from Harley after a show at CBs I think it was recorded in Richmond when they were on tour. at least tat is what I was told. it was recorded a bit faster best shit listened to it a million times. maybe more

    Never heard this but it's great. As chano578 says, they were a lot more powerful than the LP sound suggests (not that it is bad anyway)
    I saw Cro Mags in Leeds in 1987 and would possibly go as far to say they are the best live band I have seen -and I have seen a lot

      I have an app called bandsintown. Every band I can think of is in there. It let's me know which bands are on tour. It alerts me when they are coming to my town and it let's you ask them to come to your town. Even if you thought they broke up. Or only in Austin or local.

    I don't like Heavy Metal at all (except for Priest up to early '80's, early Scorpions, early Crüe) I love BÖC & Dharma and groups like Alice Cooper, old AC/DC including "Back in Black", Heart, The Cult... but don't consider them HM. I actually like Cro-Mags and don't understand why they weren't bigger. Short songs & no spandex w/a decidedly punk background they're songs are extremely catchy and this is coming from a Velvet Underground lover. Here's hoping that they're stuff gets heard. I've heard quite a few metal bands and this band is really quite good. G

      @kingfillins4117 5 років тому

      Well I think if they played with this energy but had the structure of AOQ, how the songs flow... Like how World Peace goes strait into Show You No Mercy... That really works... AOQ is a cleaner, more resolved and has a defined production... as is often the case when a band practices hard out before going into a studio... But yeah the demo shreds.
