It was my honor to be a student of Frederick L. Hemke during my school years of 1954-1958 (I'm now 80 years old and still miss him terribly). None can will even compare to the talents of this artist .... there are no words to accurately describe this wonderful musician let alone his friendship, spirit, sense of humor and how privileged I feel to have studied with him and kept in touch with him and his parents and his family throughout the years. People who have studied with Hemke and Rousseau agree that Hemke was a far better teacher. When MARCEL JOSSE of the Mule Quartet filled in at IU for Rousseau, he actually taught the kids something, unlike Rousseau who would just listen to them play from across the room. When it got back to Rousseau that the students preferred the teaching of Josse, Rousseau sent Josse back to France to save face! Made him leave early. lol
DR. Rousseau was my tenor sax teacher at Luther College in 1960. I saw him again at Coe College in Cedar Rapids when my grand daughter(Laura Gibson) had the privilege of taking him for lunch when he was a guest clinician. His sound has always been divine!
My Dad (1914-2011) played the sax quite well (and the clarinet and flute). Dad played in the Rose parade and in the Chapman College Orchestra. I played from 7th grade through High school. We shared a Buescher Eb Also sax Dad bought in a pawn ship in Long Beach in 1958 for $50.
Well, I would say that the first piece is definitly a jazz piece and the second one remembers a lot the french school. What is amazing in Doc Rousseau is the ability to sound in the both styles using the same setup, specially the mouthpiece. I kind of prefer the classical saxophone, but need to say that I admire who can play both styles like Eugene Rousseau, Vincent David and Nobuya Sugawa.
existen tantos cuates que suben sus vídeos y resultan unos verdaderos infames de la música, y este señor es un verdadero artista , un vibrato genial con una escuela vieja pero muy efectiva.
I am in 6th grade and just started playing the Saxophone, but just hearing him play makes me want to play for the rest of my life.
How are you doing now? Are you still playing?

Hemke was not musical, played no soprano sax and no jazz. Rousseau was more musical but a rotten teacher.

Lovely tone and vibrato. Don't hear enough of this beautiful smooth tone from sax players.
aaaahhhh! Someone who can really play a saxophone, how beautiful!
Nice, easy tone and vibrato, not forced.
So beautiful!
Sax tone as it used to be in the old days - Beautiful

I can't tell if this is classical or symphonic but, he has some jazzy licks in there but it sounds amazing.
