He looks fantastic for 89, and boy does he still have chops!
Definitively incredible!!!
WOW ! I thought he is round about 60 or something like that awesome 🎺🎼🎉
Wow, Doc sounds just amazing at 89-years-old. I can't believe he didn't blow a sphincter gasket or something like that hitting those high notes. Can't wait to hear his sound when he reaches 100-years-old.
or a brain hemorrhage...
C. Thompson 。」
Haha don't you put that on Doc!
He looked like be really struggled to play
He played a set with my college big band a few years ago and actually blew out his lip. He played rigorously for 6 hours with very few breaks. His team was trying to get him to take a break during his practicing and of course he refused.
that saxophonist was on fire
And he went to the cancer blows 2017 concert too
The best part was the saxophonist
awesome player!!!!!!! he is amazing!!!!
Woodwinds, meh.
Very hard sound - good technique
i have cancer again maybe. saw doc and his signif other this week at UNM with the trumpet guild... so inspired now, despite the paralysis i'm still recovering from i want to keep playing now till it's over, whenever that may be, thank you sir! best little show i seen in my life, and i have seen....bunches. peace and keep on keepin on.
Best wishes that you beat the cancer!
Best to you in your recovery
bob? :(
You still kicking, Bob?
hope u r still playing strong Bob!
Saw him in person and met him Jan 2016. We talked about scuba diving and cornet playing. I said I no longer played and he said he couldn't dive because of claustrophobia. His final comment, "Well, you can't play and I can't dive." I have photos.
Wow Doc is amazing! And Michael J Fox on sax on the same stage. Incredible!
Do you think so at 3:10? Hahahaha.
hhohn I don't think that's Michael J Fox
hhohn sax sounds like a tin can
If I had a nickel every time someone said I look like Michael J Fox.....hahaha
BE3THOVEN oh yeah yeah
Proof of the power of playing an instrument... It makes you use your mind and focus.. keeps you young.
Wow! His range is still amazing even at 89. I could hear high D's and a High F & High F# among that first solo.
I believe Doc has the honor of reaching the highest note ever played on the trumpet.
Dr. John Paladin Show Arturo can play higher. Look at some of his scale videos where he goes into oblivion, my gosh.
Carl Ferrigno Ok, will do. I do know Arturo played a 4X C
@@jacobrippe Cat Anderson.
Doc is a legend, I thought Maynard was impressive in his later years but this is just uncanny. I just wish he could toss out the stuff you know he wants to play but just cant get out cause of them darn aged muscles.
Carl Ferrigno doc sucked? I don’t really believe it
@Carl Ferrigno his later years vs his final year is a bit different, the guy was playing into his early/mid 80's, clearly he wasn't going to be up to par. Did you see Dizzy in his last 5 years? Sounded awful, but you knew they still had the magic inside, it just couldn't come out anymore. Doc finally dealing with it himself, but the man is nearly a century old here!
He's still so damned perfect. He is such a phenomenal artist.
As a trumpet player I have nothing but respect for Mr. Severinson ..At 90 and still playing double high c's , incredible .
Who else saw smoke coming from his bell at 1:03? He still has the fire🔥
There goes his soul..
1:09
I love his music so much. I can't believe he's still playing in 2016

This, ladies and gentlemen, is how it’s done. Tone. Articulation. Range. Technique. Made all the more remarkable by the fact that he was 89 when this was recorded!
Chris Spencer And I bet he still plays his Arbans. 🤠❤️🎺
Wow! 89 years old and still going strong! God bless you, Doc. You're an inspiration.
This man is probably the greatest trumpet player in history. Music, and clean living must be the way to do it.
dmc31405 He said to us,
Lay off practice 1 day I know it. Two days my band knows it. Three days everyone knowns it.
@Tech Nerd They're both spectacular, but Doc's sound has just transcended
Just phenomenal, 89! And he's wearing green trousers! Just how cool is this guy?!
I played with Mr. Severinsen in a concert at Cincinnati Music Hall almost 50 years ago as a high school student. He was a tough taskmaster then and it doesn't look like he's missed a beat since.
That saxophone solo was incredible!
I saw Doc Severinsen a month or so ago. The University of South Alabama hosted this Trumpet Day event and invited him to play with us all at Trumpet Day. It was quite a blast and man he can really still play that trumpet!
Doc severinsen is a living legend 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Moacir Hora demanding at rehearsal. Gave us two tries at a section, said “I’m going over there to practice my part. You practice your part. We’ll give it one more try. Or we cut it from the program.” 😬
To be in that North Texas band - you have to be incredibly talented. These guys are phenomenal.
THE man of Johnny's show. He was the reson I got a music degree. I am now, at my advanced age, a BRASS man. I play Trumpet, Trombone, Flugel, and French horn. DOC, you ARE the man.
That old guy is pretty good his people should encourage him to keep playing! He might even become youtube famous one day
ha ha.
...
I don't think alot of people got the joke
If he plays his cards right, he could get on TV.
Joe, you'll be old one day and won't appreciate someone calling you 'that old guy', time passes and before you know it you'll be looking in a mirror at yourself and saying, I'll be 60 years old in less than a month, and it seems like only yesterday I was young. The truth hurts, but we'll both be as old as Doc. before we know it. Just food for thought for you Joe Moss before you think "that old guy". Signed, Jeff (1957 to whatever year).
it is a shame that a man this fantastic is struggling now
but he still has got the fire
That intro was one of the greatest trumpet solos I’ve ever heard.
All those years as a kid watching this guy on Carson I never knew he played. At almost 90 that's a pretty big sound! Around 1980 I thought brass and wind instruments just needed to go away and let the Stratocasters and Les Pauls inherit the earth. Today I'm revisiting my alto sax and realize we should preserve ALL of our musical heritage. This stuff is good!
That ending made me drool on my eyes. Such an amazing trumpet player. It's unbelievable how healthy this 89 year old looks! As he's able to play with this much pressure and air support!
i love how all these players tones are so different but still sound amazing
Bravo. When I am 89 years old, I hope I can do anything as well as Doc.
this should have over a million views
Yes
...and to think I snuck downstairs as a kid to watch Johnny and Ed and Doc (when my parents thought I was in bed.) So great to see this.
Doc sounds fantastic and real nice work by the sax soloist!
Doc and Maynard are my biggest trumpet heroes! With Maynard gone for about 12 years, now....I love, admire and appreciate Doc all the more!
i saw Doc live and got to meet him after his performance probably 5 years ago. he is tiny, but man he can still blow that horn. by far the best rounded trumpet player to ever pick up the horn.
Doc has taken care of himself. Amazing performance. Great band all the way around.
*Director: Doc Severinsen*
*Solos:*
Keyboard: Sergio Pamies (0:12)
Trumpet: Doc Severinsen (0:41, 2:25, 2:48, 4:03, 5:27, 5:51) (Guest Artist)
Alto Sax: Drew Zaremba (3:08)
He still has that amazing brassy sound at freaking 90 years old. Wow.
The sound is PERFECT
Thank you! I appreciate the comment!
Just incredible! The great ones always stay fresh. Saw him in 2017 in Winston Salem NC. Front row right in front of him. My 7th concert through the years. Still charming and quick minded as ever...Played well for anyone any age.
Energizer bunny or WHAT!! I love it that he is still blowin' like that at his age!! People half his age can't play like that!! Go Doc,Go!!! Bless you!!!
love seeing that sax go ham
What an inspiration to younger musicians. I had the priveledged of playing with him here I. The Twin Cities 2 different occasions, and both times he was not only excellent but a true gentleman! Count it as one of my my musical highlights of my 62 years, thanks DOC!
Doc still has it! I'm sure everyone asks him to tell a Johnny Carson story, but I really want to hear a Buddy Rich story from Doc! :D
Doc's playing will be a forever joy. He's up there with all the other musical legends. Bravo Doc!
I saw Doc live quite a few times in the early 70's. Amazing then and now. That gorgeous tone and control he has -one of a kind. Just amazing.
Definitively incredible! My best understanding, Doc has been for years an underestimated an under rated musician. Very unfair...
I believe Doc has the honor of reaching the highest note ever played on the trumpet.
Dr. John Paladin Show He could hit some really high notes back in the day, but he hasn’t played the highest notes ever. Check out Maynard Ferguson, Cat Anderson, and John Faddis, they play a lot of stuff in the stratosphere.
@@nobodyhere100 Thanks for the input.
Dr. John Paladin Show My pleasure
Listening to this over and over in comparison to other performances of Night in Tunisia is making me finally understand how to play jazz. Can't wait to see Doc Severinsen live in June.
I don't know how I got here but I'm glad I did! What a great ensemble! 👍
He is still very much on top of his game! At 89, how does he do it? He is one of the last legends still alive. I'm so glad we can continue to enjoy his music.
Doc is a phenomenal of the trumpet! Long live Doc!
Still got it and still looks great
Wow! He is so amazing! We just uploaded a video of our trumpet player on our channel and he got to meet Doc Severeson in real life! Our trumpet player said he’s one of the nicest people to be around and he got some lessons from him for just one hour that day he got to meet him.
I love this mans music. First saw him in 1975. Loved him then and still do. He did his first concert at eight years of age at the civic auditorium in The Dalles, Oregon. And to think he ended up with a trumpet when his first desire was to play trombone.
Doc is a legend!! I am dating myself as I have many of his old vinyl albums. My uncle worked for a record lab in NYC and because I played horn he would give me lots of Doc's records. Amazing to see him playing at this level at 89. Just crazy!
My goodness he still sounds incredible. Almost 90 and still sounds this good. Not sure if he's a freak of nature or not...
So excited to hear him this fall at CancerBlows in Memphis
I'm 70 and I'll have whatever Doc is having, using, smoking, or even the portrait he's got up in the attic. Wish I could look as good and do anything as well as he plays.
I play alto saxophone and that sax solo mad me have eargasims
Always loved Doc. Without question a top flight trumpet man and band leader not to mention one of the sharpest dressed cats to ever grace any stage.
Man, awesome! High D's @ 89 years old! Most men his age have dementia!
Kelly Goerbig most are dead.
JosephMessiahh many older musicians set the horn down and their health tanks... we have seen many 90 year old musicians retire and pass away very shortly after. Playing musical instruments is the secret to living forever... the fountain of youth, if you will.
Playing something like trumpet is alsy quite physically requiring, so it's basically exercise.
Yay Doc! I can't believe that he is still playing like this. I saw him with "Xebron" back in the day.
Lol! I saw him in the '70's with Fusion, in Billings, MT!
Awesome job by all! How does Doc still do it at 89...God only knows!
It was a pleasure to play for him!
Doc Severinsen IS STILL a GENIUS!!!!!!!! Brilliant master of the trumpet!
87 years old and killing it! Go, Doc!
89... damn! Doc still has got it.
One of the very best done versions of Night in Tunisia from one of the very best to ever pick up the horn.
great sax solo at 3:05! its far from your typical generic jazz solo imo. refreshing!
Doc remains phenomenal.
To another 90 great years, Doc.
There is only one Doc ....oh yea ....amazing . Thank you for the inspiration....
saw him in Baltimore last november right after thanksgiving. still great. and yes, he had lasagna locally. Thank you Doc for allowing us to enjoy your music still.
I can’t stop plying this #
Thanks, just what the Doctor ordered
At 1:00 you can see Steam coming out of his bell
Holy Shit!
Holy shit, I thought you were kidding!
How the fk is that even possible
Jesus christ, he’s not lying!
it took me like 5 mins to find this but the smoke coming out is at 1:07
Bravo Doc!
I love this song and arrangement!
The greats never die out, simply put
Un merveilleux trompettiste, moins connu que d'autres, mais tout aussi talentueux ! Chapeau bas, surtout à son age !
Father's Day.......6...2017..Elmhurst College Show...Son had the experience of seeing a classic artist...Music...Tell I die....

Doc is phenomenal. Always has been, always will be. All the years of alcohol and drug abuse have not harmed his ability to maintain his extraordinary genious on his instrument. I love you Doc!!!!!
He's s trumpet guild celebrity!
Doc is Eternally Young.....He knows how to fill a horn...Fantastic..
Are you serious? Speechless.
Man even with how shaky his muscle are getting he still manages to keep his tone from being shakey
Totally unbelieveable!
