    Another A+. One of the best restorations I’ve seen. Those old Yamaha’s are cheap & can be fast for cheap. The 95 SeaDoo spx I restored sold in 3 days, thanks for your help. So, now I’m looking for an early year GP1300R two stroke. I’ll semd you pictures when I finish it!

    At 1:48 into the video you say intake manifold, but actually you have the exhaust manifold in your hand. Just letting you know. I have wrenched on jet skis and motorcycles for over 20 years. I give you a thumbs up for trying to repair things yourself instead of bringing it to a shop. People who buy toys but choose not to work on them is never a good thing. Everyone should at least get their hands dirty a little bit and try to understand how things work....(mechanic wise). Good luck with your project. By the way, Yamahas are the best watercraft when it comes to being reliable. Kawasaki would be 2nd, then Sea Doo..

      Steve Vigus yep. Used to be able to buy those for $500 all day long. Not anymore, unless they are rusted out hulks. Maybe one day when I have more time and garage space...

      Thanks! If the rain lets up this evening I'm pressing on with the project. If not, there's going to be a gargage cleaning project in my short term future.

    Great vid! Waiting for the next installment. I’m a seadoo man but something about the Yamaha’s exhaust note that sounds great! Make sure to get a good sound bit of that Yami engine music!!!

  • @mikespain8655
    @mikespain8655 5 років тому +1

    Better to start with engine to ensure it runs, before going into the cosmetic. WD-40 along with heat gun helps take stickers off. EZ Off oven cleaner helps bring back the dull plastics, then pressure wash.

    Just a FYI if you ever do this type thing again! a sos soap pad will clean the plastic 10 times easier and faster. FYI #2 you can buy a decal eraser from parts store that goes in drill will remove decals right before your very eyes and not harm the finish. Number 3 Ive changed many starters without pulling exhaust on 700 and 760's but then again Ive been a pwc mechanic sense 1988.

    At 3:07 what liquid did you use to remove the glue residue

    • @StevenVigus
      @StevenVigus  5 років тому +1

      Xylol (Xylene). It's probably overkill but I had some sitting around and it makes quick work of the glue without affecting the gel coat. Also removes plasti-dip easily.

    For black plastic, running a light heat gun over it will bring out the oil in the plastic and restore the original black. I’m not sure if it works on colored trims, but scraping off a layer would be last resort for me.

    What kind of solvent do you use for removing the adhesives?

    • @StevenVigus

      Xylol. It's the solvent used for rubber paint. Acetone does a pretty good job too.

    Hey Steve! Are you using regular fish soap for the initial wash?

    • @StevenVigus
      @StevenVigus  6 років тому

      Actually, I used some kind of general soap for pressure washing. We recently moved and it was the first thing that I could find in the pile of boxes. Works fine.

    If you use a heat gun on the plastics, it does an almost factory finish.

    Yamaha's do not have wear rings the only brand that has a wear ring that is removable is a Seadoo you have to check your impeller and sometimes you will luck out and find a wearing that you can cram in there but most times to do it right you just need a new jet pump and once you change the color and paint a jet ski the value is gone

    • @StevenVigus
      @StevenVigus  6 років тому

      Thanks for the pointer. I ended up buying a new section Poe the pump. Video will be part 6 when I get some free time to edit.

    What is the horsepower on that ski?

    • @StevenVigus
      @StevenVigus  6 років тому

      Orignially rated at 63 hp, 320 lbs. Its handling is docile compared to the old SeaDoo 2 seaters but I aapreciate the depandability of the Yamaha. And the things are dirt cheap to buy now.
