How are you liking the Fierce Live Liner? After some activity, I’ve always let it free spool, tightened the drag, felt the bait run with my fingers, and then reengaged. Old school, but that’s how we grew up doing it without a bail wire on the piers in FL.
I really like the live liner and prefer it over my lever drag conventional. The only down side is that it dose not hold a ton of line. Since the live liner has two drags, I use the main drag set for fighting the fish, and the secondary drag at the lowest setting. The lowest setting allows the fish to take drag if it is nervous or being chased. Once a fish grabs my bait I will allow 5 -10 seconds (to let the fish eat my bait) before putting the reel into gear. I used the same method as you mentioned before getting the live liner.
You truly live in a Paradise. Nice catch and will outstanding on the grill. Congrats and I want a Hobie so so bad. I paid a deposit on a Native and it was on back order for almost a year and all they would tell was they are a small company. I finally got my money back and kinda gave up. Now I can’t afford one like I want.
Well it gets really rough out there. I have launched off Kualoa regional park and went out through the kualoa channel. You can also go out of the sanpan channel. Both spots I have been out in in 10 ft plus swells. Not a place to mess around or learn. You can learn fishing out of pokai bay without much danger.
Quick Question - do the tiger sharks ever mistake your drive system on that Hobie for a sea turtle and grab the boat? They look so much like turtle fins.
I can only speak for myself, but I have never had a tiger shark hit or bump my kayak. That would be so terrifying if a tiger shark grabbed on to the kayak. More than likely it would puncture the plastic, but maybe they would just rip off the rudder or bait tube. In general they usually just cruise by at 10-15ft away. Sandbar sharks have ran into my kayak. After they eat a tuna close to the surface (50ft) they often come up to the kayak looking for anything to eat.
Nice videos dude. Been checking out a few and really dig your stuff. Keep it up! 😁🤙 I see you only use live bait? Haven't seen you use a lure yet? Must be nice to have bait available all the time. 😁🤙 Niiiiiiiice! 🔥
Awesome footage! You had another Mahi Mahi wondering in the distance at the 11:08 mark, hey Flying Fish what size is the that bag cooler? Keep the vids coming!
What’s up man, killer footage. Was curious as to why you don’t use a stinger? Definitely would increase the hook ups. And if you use mono/fluoro, I wouldn’t really hinder the opelu and akule’s action. You’re slaying fish though! Awesome footage
Mahi is really mild tasting. I’ve had most every fish in Hawaii and Mahi is my favorite. I suppose you could compare it to Wahoo (Ono) but Mahi is more mild than that. It stands alone. You just have to try it. Aloha.
Thanks Roberto! The main rod I use for pelagic fishing is an ugly stick tiger elite jigging rod 6'6" heavy action. I have that paired with a penn fierce live liner 6000 size reel. ua-cam.com/users/PatoRoberable
Outside of the major and minor bite times you will get a lot of aha, kaku, sharks, and the occasional kawa kawa. Sometimes you can see aha flying out of the water when chasing bait fish. If you do I would take the bait out of the water and change spots.
Kaleo Keliikoa I use the fish finder to find bait. After catching bait I mostly use the gps to get to the right depth. After that it isn’t really necessary but it still helps to not fish blindly.
Yeah man. That looks pretty sharky. I have been sharked a couple of times but not right at the kayak. I remember drifting into shallower water throughout the fight. I know sharks are everywhere, but I generally get sharked in less than 150'.
Nice footage and Mahi. A word of advice be careful not to mention spots buddy, it could rub some people in the wrong way. Also when pronouncing hawaiian fish names. O- Pell- LU (mackerel scad) not O-pey-lu ;)
So happy that you keep the fish 🏴😉
When you're trolling artificial lures, how fast are you going and are you holding your line down with any weights?
That’s sick on a kayak!!
Another Great Fishing Video, They just don,t get any Better.
dang that is one nice fish, who here is in 2020?
you dont have likes cause nobody likes these comments
@@thelennybandit5215 lol I completely forgot about this comment

Some of the best videos I have ever seen
I don't like fishing but this was awesome to watch.

@Flying Fish TV in your opinion what’s the best place to go out on the kyack in Kaneohe bay in blue water

Could I launch out of kahana bay?

Wow what a fish! Those things are gorgeous, I have never eaten Mahi Mahi. Time to remedy that.
One of my favorites! I made mahi fish tacos the other and they were amazing.
They are really good-my favorite
Mahi mahi o ma. That's what you caught.
Nice videos dude.

Canyon tck-1 tournament kingfish bag. 5ft long 2ft tall.
How is that cooler holding up?
With so little freeboard do you ever get swamped and if so what happens?
Why you did not release the fish?
Can i ask what lb test main line and leader you are using for mahi? I just started kayaking here in hawaii and want to target mahi

Nice one. Easy 12 lbs
What would you compare the taste of mahi mahi too

Enjoyed this video
I've never eaten Mahi. OMG I'm behind in the times! I'm gonna for sure 2019. ❤
Mahi is one of my favorites!
Mahi is my favorite pelagic to catch and eat. The meat is hard to mess up. It doesn’t dry out like Marlin or Ono. Great mild taste.
Al Petkiewicz they are outstanding marinated and grilled. Should try it. Most say Wahoo are the best but I didn’t like the texture of the Wahoo.
This channel has inspired me to take up kayak fishing.
How much did your rig cost to set up (Ballpark) with all the bells and whistles?
literally all the gear is in his description... read it
Ball park with all of my gear, 5000 grand.
@@AntiViGames good to know
How are you uploading your videos so that they’re so clear? Mine are coming out a bit blurry...
Would dead akule work for trolling?
Good fish ,nice video
Cool Mahi !!! I have a question. What type of spinning and rod you use?
Cheers from Mexico
Thanks Roberto! The main rod I use for pelagic fishing is an ugly stick tiger elite jigging rod 6'6" heavy action. I have that paired with a penn fierce live liner 6000 size reel.

That was my question
Es muy estable liviana para que sea más fácil su trasladoMuy cómoda para disfrutar de la pesca
epic vid
What do you use to catch opelu
Try frying up the eggs Aku, ahi or mahi
Sounds good 🤙
Why must the kayak be so small? Why exhaust yourself trying to operate from within such a tiny boat? Are there no wider kayaks?
Ahmad Renawi all fishing kayaks are more or less this size, because it works
Thanks a cool kayak
Why do you call the fish goggle eye's?
Big eye scad, goggle every place calls them a different name. Just like mahi is wahoo also Ono in hawaiian
Sure beats any aha I've caught
There are some monster aha out there lol. It is extremely frustrating to lose a perfect live bait to an aha.
Today I lost a giant opelu to an aha, at Maili point, at the same depth, and after an hour of drifting. Very frustrating!
Aha are such a pain. I generally try to avoid them by put baits in at 220ft. I have caught a aha in 240 ft though.
Outside of the major and minor bite times you will get a lot of aha, kaku, sharks, and the occasional kawa kawa. Sometimes you can see aha flying out of the water when chasing bait fish. If you do I would take the bait out of the water and change spots.
Do you ever fish without your fish finder on your kayak or do you always need to have your fish finder on your kayak to catch any fish?
Sure beats any aha I've caught lol
Kaleo Keliikoa I use the fish finder to find bait. After catching bait I mostly use the gps to get to the right depth. After that it isn’t really necessary but it still helps to not fish blindly.
If you give away any of that Mahi you deserve a slap.
Dude are you by yourself?
You know that you should be with at least one other person kayak fishing?
I was with 5 others guys on this trip. Sometimes I go solo, but I still have all my safety equipment as well as a VHF radio and a epirb.
at the 11:08 mark you can see something in the distance in the back of your mahi.. looks kind of big.. could of been another mahi or a tax collector
Yeah man. That looks pretty sharky. I have been sharked a couple of times but not right at the kayak. I remember drifting into shallower water throughout the fight. I know sharks are everywhere, but I generally get sharked in less than 150'.
the water looks so fake lol , video game water
